Ask Mystic – Astrology Signs Home Decor

Bohemian Zodiac Fashion

Are Astrology signs and home decor aesthetic ideals linked? Utterly. Soon: An Astro-Home Instant Astrology Report. Now: My House Witchery Mp3 and this cool question.

Dear Mystic,

We all know the best times of the moon to clean our house and get rid of the clutter, but do you have any advice regarding home decorating according to your moon sign (or other aspects of one’s chart)? I also wonder if you might run into difficulties if your Rising and Moon sign clash when it comes to decor – as a Scorpio rising (say), new lovers might expect you to have a plush velvet den, when in fact your Gemini moon is all about bright colours and unserious flourishes. Thoughts?

Sincerely,
Curious Moon

I love this question and one of my multiple projects bubbling away in the ‘lab’ is an Astro Home Instant Report. So, for my general Astrology signs, zodiac home aesthetic thoughts, see this post in Apartment Therapy.

Sun sign astro is fun to think about in terms of homes. I automatically think of the Leo with luxe-taste, Virgo Vision precision, and the Saggo travel or gym bag perma packed and ready for flight.

But your point is so apt – what of the Aries with Moon in Cancer? Is their living room a red-centric homage to primal Yang and high-amp speakers but their bed-womb a lavender-scented sleep shrine?

Would a Pisces with Libra Moon end relationships with anyone who disrupted their spiritual symmetry or interfered with their Feng Shui frequency?

Actually, it is – as you say – to do with the Moon. When you walk into someone’s house, you are in their Moon. But the Moon is usually subliminal. It’s the decor (or food!) you default to.

But the sign on the I.C. is the most important and that’s what the forthcoming Astro-Home will focus on. That’s the sign determining the tone of chez You. And the extent to which you connect with that sign’s ethos reveals whether your abode is a haven or more crash-pad.

And then you add in the Sun, Moon, planets or asteroids occupying that 4th House sector.

Thoughts?

We just built a house/extension so I have a good idea of what my partner’s and I default style is as a couple now, as well as individually. My Gemini partner has a Cancerian Moon and Taurus on the IC. I have a Leo Sun, Scorpio Moon and Virgo on the IC (by a degree). Basically it is Japanese inspired but despite the small footprint, high ceilings, concrete floors and huge wood sliders. I am not a minimalist, but you would be mistaken for thinking so given we have more storage now! We are practical and did keep the rule… Read more »

Love this! I’m a Sag IC/Moon so my lair definitely gives off a bit of an exotic traveler vibe, but my Virgo Rising keeps it from going overboard and I tend to select pieces very carefully so they *perfectly* fit the vibe and don’t clutter the place up. I like neutral tones with a heavy mix of exotic patterns and exciting pops of color. It’s a bit of a minimalist’s maximalist vibe. Throw in my Sun in Cancer and I’m huge on having lots of comfy blankets/pillows/etc. and making sure the house has a ‘homey’ feel (I hate hate hate… Read more »

My partner and I both have taurus at the IC, and young son is a taurus mars (he has pisces at the IC). We have a lot of places to sit, a lot of blankets, pillows, bedding and towels, a lot of plants, and a fully stocked kitchen. We spend most of our time on the sectional around the fireplace and all take naps there. We prefer holing up with good tv and food to entertaining (I have a scorpio moon, partner has a scorpio mercury, son is scorpio rising – we’re all relieved when plans get canceled and are… Read more »

My Toro sun son is IC Pisces 4th… we too have sticks, rocks, leaves, bones and stones all about in clumpy altars. So much hoarding of his (other worldly and quite incredible colour choice) paintings done throughout his pre & schooling years. He will sit and reflect, pulling out and reviewing his ‘works’ often… He is 8. Curious pisces IC child!

Aww, mine is 8 as well and he also has great color selection, neptune has also been transiting his IC (same with your son I imagine) and when we moved he requested that his new bedroom and playroom be painted blue, all blue everything, different shades of blue.

I’m hoping that’s the case. As you well know Saturn is a bit of a daddy and his transit through my first has illuminated all that is lacking in me. Identity politics most most foul. But it is such an opportunity isn’t it? Jupiter rising and Pluto square my acendant have bestowed me with what currently appears to be an utterly unbounded and unfounded confidence in my ability to regenerate. Regeneration compulsion!
Pluto in my second is a transit I know better than to fight, or do I?
I put up a good sulk tho

CentaurusMM Member

Jupiter rising is perfect for that.

Once again I can say Jupiter in my Sun sign has not been spectacular but he does tend to fire up in Cap so NOW I’m slightly optimistic. Go figure?

Regeneration compulsion?
The evolution of soul and perhaps beyond the control of the mortal part of our being.

Saturn sounds like he’s done his job well through the first and is now doing the second house rebuild with some help from a new foreman on the scene aka Jupes.

Lols – put up a good sulk….yeah that sounds vaguely familiar to me 😄

Leo IC, but at the very end of Leo, so my fourth house, plus my Moon, is in Virgo. I’m definitely more Virgo-ish at home – books, plants, floral prints, blond wood floors, small pets slumping, and a minimalist vibe with a green and cream color scheme accentuated by Impressionist paintings from Monet, Renoir, and van Gogh. I have Capricorn on the IC and Mars in Aquarius in the 4th house; I have been doing Pluto in Capricorn transforming thru decluttering. Lol, so true! Do any other Cap moons have a bit of a thing for more classic, older pieces – solid wooden pieces/antiques rather than flimsier or more “modern” mass-produced things? I’ve never gotten quite as into IKEA as others in my gen and always had an uncanny preference for wood and older items since I was tiny. I think your combo of Scorp/Cap seems to be all about authenticity. Scorps hate fakes (in my experience) and Caps are all about the quality and the practical. I am actually fine with certain Ikea pieces, the classic ones that have stood the test of time and the super-practical kitchen pieces etc. I tend to choose the practical structural stuff like cupboards etc and invest in high end finishes such as taps, benchtops etc. But I also have a century-plus old bookcase I’ve had for decades that I’ve lugged from house to house that is my favourite piece of furniture… Read more »

MC Taurus? Has to see their home with solid wooden furniture that endures. Home brings you your energy back from elsewhere, and radiates to others as solidity that endures. Home is also ancestral and past life energies that make up you. Are your antiques from a particular era? Are they appreciated as enduring, though from multiple eras, or crossover furniture-design eras that might have spanned a generation?

Neptune conj IC! You really have so much water power in your chart, Chrysalis…it’s fascinating. I think the needing to live in an ordered and simple way is quite a Cap moon thing too, although I imagine your Virgo energies really ramp that right up. Taurus tend to be a pretty messy sign, from what I’ve seen. Libra Sun and Moon, Taurus IC: that biz about Libra getting depressed by an inadequate bathtub is unfortunately true!! I still miss a bathtub at a house I shared with an ex. Truly the one that got away. My Extremely Taurus Couch is a fundamental part of my decor (it is giant, comfortable, and makes a sort of half-hallway entry to the actual hallway) and I didn’t really feel like I was an adult or knew how to live at home until I got it. When in doubt, park it on the couch.

some additional on-point details: my bathroom has a private walk-in closet (tons of shelves, dressers, rails) and an additional smaller closet more for ‘display’ items like all the perfume and bath salts and skincare stuff, which seems like an extreme Taurus/Libra mashup. Style-wise it’s probably similar to many in this thread – haute hippie with art – I like the Nokiba incense and my Taurus mother is always gifting me plants; I have a fireplace mantle altar and a lot of ukiyo-e I’ve collected over the years + other screen and lithoprints from artists; built-in bookshelves that are packed full… Read more »

It IS esoteric this Taurus Thing accounting…it is all about our energetic connection to Gaia, our boundaries, our knowing what we have in simple ways that lead to careful re-stocking. Saturn in Taurus 6th. I know you have touched my stuff, one crazed worker who tries to compliment my desk organisation when busted. Is the Toro hoarding because of sentiment? Or laziness. My Toro sister has phenomenal taste and beautiful, cohesive decor. But you’d never know it under the layer of clutter and crap covering it all. As a Marie Kondo following, feng shui practicing Pisces, I do not get it. None of the hoarded stuff seems of any personal value, just unfinished projects, last season’s wardrobe needing put away, a week of used coffee mugs strewn about and the recycling needing put out. Earthy, eclectic and thoughtfully acquired or left to be appreciated from a distance: that so reflects your astro in a beautiful way, Centaurus xxx The efficiency in the luxe of making new homes always a home (that’s its function in a mutable lifestyle, right?), and the welcome people feel seems a lot like Capricorn, in with the Taurus.

My son is quad Taurus with cap rising.

My entrance foyer has a welcoming tranquil altar with incense and tasteful Arabic style mirror, key holder, shoes stored in personal baskets under stairs and add my Scorpio son’s skateboard, scooter and Vans that I growl at everyday. Mercury Mars a bunch of asteroids and Sun in 4th H Taurus.
