Lucy McRae Biometric Mirror Installation

Retro-Venus Black Mirror Beauty Items For Discussion.

The Biometric Mirror installation evokes the Beauty Myth of the Nineties. It’s perfect for Venus Retro and Naomi Wolf is natal Venus Retrograde in Scorpio. Retro-Venus (that’s right, Venus) is soon upon us, and most of it will be in Scorpio. Anticipate an in-depth examination of modern beauty and aesthetic standards.

Seriously, let’s face it: Naomi Wolf in The Beauty Myth was right about so many things.  Not least of all the consequence of cosmetic surgery becoming not just commonplace but almost compulsory. She predicted a new ‘Surgical Age’ in 1990, before the advent of facial filler and neurotoxins. FYI, she was born with Venus Retro in Scorpio.  She wrote the book that made her name during Pluto in Scorpio, and it became a best-seller over her Pluto-Venus transit.

“The beauty myth of the present is more insidious than any mystique of femininity yet: A century ago, Nora slammed the door of the doll’s house; a generation ago, women turned their backs on the consumer heaven of the isolated multi-appliance home; but where women are trapped today, there is no door to slam. The contemporary ravages of the beauty backlash are destroying women physically and depleting us psychologically.”

On the personal beauty and aesthetic level, Retro-Venus inspires a re-think of policies, an audit or an update. But more broadly, it will focus on the societal image Zeitgeist and the Kardashianisation (new word) of style trends. Of course, if image maintenance and enhancement bring pleasure, they can be a quiet ‘fuq you’ to patriarchal repression. So, to borrow a term from Marie Kondo, does your beauty regime or image maintenance spark joy?

A Futuristic Sci-Fi Beauty Salon

Happily, one of my trusty Mega Mystic members has created the ultimate art exhibition for Retro-Venus:

Biometric Mirror is an immersive installation that blends the act of casually glancing at one’s reflection with modern algorithmic perspectives on facial perfection.
The artwork explores the accuracy and flaws of artificial intelligence and its potential black mirror outcomes.

Biometric Mirror questions the accuracy and assumptions of facial recognition algorithms. Enter a futuristic sci-fi beauty salon and let an AI scan your biometric data and reveal a mathematically ‘perfect’ version of your face. But whose version of perfection is it? Biometric Mirror is an intriguing collaboration with scientists from the Research Centre for Social Natural User Interfaces.

Science Gallery’s PERFECTION trailer explores the ritualization of artificial intelligence via a ceremony performed by digital shamans on a test subject. This experiment looks at the uncontrollable imperfections that occur when working with the human body in contrast with the controlled and programmable systems of artificial intelligence. How do we reassess and imagine new algorithmic paradigms that encompass imperfection, accident, and messiness?

If you were born with natal Venus Retrograde in Scorpio, your thoughts on beauty, society, sex, and culture are innately deep. You’re auto-set to subvert the dominant paradigm and perceive fashion/aesthetic standards with refreshing objectivity.

Thoughts?

Venus retrograde at ten degrees Scorpio, in the middle of my Sun/Chiron conjunction.

My plans are to: sleep more, avoid stress, and start my project on artificial intelligence.

No drama. I am over retrograde season already. I think this is when my data science program with MIT will begin. Venus retro is in my 5th house of creativity. Maybe it is good time to start a new project?

Holy mackerel, is there any planet that ISN’T going retro this year?! Fascinating sounding exhibition, Mystic! Must say, I’m really curious to see what happens this venus retrograde, as I’m actually a natal venus in scorp retrograde, and it’ll be my first one since becoming (somewhat) astro-aware. I don’t know if it’s a venus in scorp retrograde natal thing, but what I’d like to see questioned and come to an end is the ridiculous expectation that so many men seem to have that a vagina with anything more than a wisp or two of hair is somehow “wrong”. I think its a generational thing, in my day we called it being a fashion victim.

But the new kids on the block don’t bat an eyelash at it. (Full Brazilian).

Maybe its evolution at its best (tongue in cheek). If you can stand the pain then maybe ..oh I digress. I live in Australia and the current politics is fuckin my head in. If I was a mindless twat it wouldn’t bother me, but I’m not.

Why can’t people just think for themselves.

This is happening with men now too. Many many women want their man shaved downthere as well. I would bet most men under the age of 50 are manscaping.

He likes (or wants to like) blowjobs. Girls these days are demanding a pube-free environment for the same reason the guys are: nobody wants pubes in their face or throat.

PlutoMoonMM Member

K I’m just gonna say it: It’s for the oral sex as well as for the glide during penetration. No one wants to go down on a face full of pubes (male or female), get them stuck in your mouth, teeth, or throat, and the glide during intercourse is phenomenal when it’s skin on skin. (I write erotica on the side and, yes, I am a Venus-Jup-Neptune in Scorpio.)

I’m glad you just said it. I had a part Brazilian once. And the way I felt when I just walked was very sensual, and I can believe what you say about the sex. Also living in sub tropical heat it felt more comfortable and clean.

But I never got one again, so for me the pain wasn’t worth the benefit.

PlutoMoonMM Member

I live in Florida and agree about the heat factor.

I am not against shaving or even just trimming the genital area for both men and women. It’s clean, period. I am not sure why the craze took off initially (some would link it to porn and men wanting that “younger” look on a woman but to me that sounds more pedophilia) but the craze has certainly taken off in the past 20 years.

Wish Upon a Star

Yeah the most sensible (its a Taurus moon thing) is to trim, inexpensive and no uncomfortable, itchy grow back.

And hey in the winter let it grow, for warmth

Make-up is poorly regulated in the states so there’s that ball of wax. I just get tired of all the massive grooming one ‘thinks’ one must do just to leave the house. I’ve slowly shed my summer routine over the past few years and am down to no make-up, no hair product, no jewelry, no nail polish. This might be decisive but I have no problem with the kardashians doing them. I think their presence in the media is a little factor in me celebrating my hips / curves unlike my teen days when I was trying to fit into Abercrombie aesthetic and feeling weird about it. I don’t love the overfilled plumped face look but people can look however the fuq they want and it’s weird that it’s culturally acceptable to comment on a women’s appearance like they’re a consumable object. I agree the kardashians came to play a big role in accepting and loving curves. I saw an interview of Lily Allen laughing at her younger self for being always concerned with being skinny “it will be out of fashion in 5 years”. It came with a price but I agree they’re helped with that. Paradoxally using cirurgy!

This is a weird coincidence. I’ve been thinking a lot about how I’ve been trying to keep myself “eating clean” …and how much of my peace of mind and energy goes toward that. I read this book years ago and found myself going back to it a few days ago when I was looking up “intuitive eating” and the coach whose work I was reading dropped quotes from it. It’s crazy! No one wants to age and I get that, this has to be a mental health issue for older people though as more and more you are expected to look young. How many older adults are getting depression because of the “need” to look younger. Early 30’s people already getting Botox!?!?! Gawd, what are they going to do when they are in their 60’s if they are already consumed by this madness in their early 30’s!

i find ‘filler face’ (that overly soft/plump look esp on those who are far too old for smooth skin) really distressing, like borderline uncanny valley upsetting. but i also have never been a makeup gal (aqua rising lol) – it interferes with my exercise regimen (mars conj uranus)! in fact i’d say the anti-kardashian beauty vibe has been an under or side-current for a while now – the ultra-healthy, extremely good skincare and fitness look. like where you’re swanning around in like linen pants you can shop AND yoga in, no makeup, no-fuss braid, and some minimal but flawless slide… Read more »

I’ve been fascinated by normcore since I realised it was a thing. It reminds me a little of grunge but cleaner and whiter. Then I found this and it clicked! https://plainmagazine.com/according-christian-heikoop-future-normcore/
The beige doughnut is hilarious.
Anyway it seems so obvious now that in a world where social comparison is running riot that you’d need a fashion focussed on erasure and anonymity. Which I think is different to minimalism even if the end result looks similar.
But yeah…beige. No thanks.

yeah this is very Margiela-esque – fashion as (offensive, impractical) art. this season has been crazy-making for women’s fashion because the decision has been made somewhere that this season is all about statement silhouettes and stupid sleeves. I think there has been almost no change in (men’s or women’s) fashion since the 90s, so one part of me is fine with the silhouettes because it speaks to change..but other part of me thinks its very ugly and impractical.

This can also play into artificial intelligence with sex dolls, robots and virtual reality. ALL of these things are becoming more and more popular and mainstream. In the movie Ready Player One, virtual reality is all people do because they can be anyone/anything they want to be and to look however they want to look all while escaping the current reality. My first thought is the constant barrage of women doing this already in social media with filters. With these filters women can erase anything they perceive negative about their face and post the pic for all to see. Of course this is fun and fantasy but is it a precursor of things yet to come? Boob lifts and Botox are already pretty commonplace for the above 30 crowd. Men are consumed by it too, anti-aging wrinkle Botox, hair implants, penis enlargement. Yes, we are conditioned to want to attract and to be attractive. And there is a competitive aspect to it as well, to want to out-attract others to “win the prize” (which is…?). The balance worsens as what’s perceived to be available on the market looks hotter and younger, even (and maybe especially) if that is an illusion, and so the desperation to compete increases as well. Completely “let go,” a woman will have hairy legs, armpits (that reek), and groin, bland/stringy/frizzy hair, undereye bags and circles, and mostly plain features. This is what a natural woman looks like without… Read more »

Then I think of the hard lonely work of people transitioning to another gender by way of surgery. Such pain and suffering there to be more like the self in their head and heart. I wonder how much would change if children weren’t put into boxes the minute the ultrasound revealed the sex of the child.

This is interesting to me on a lot of levels. As a black/ brown woman I think all this emphasize on the Kardashian’s is funny when, in fact, dominate white culture has alway reinforced that big butts, big lips, “wild” hair, etc were signs of wantonness and being oversexed. Has always stated our appearance was inappropriate and advertised sex for sell. So many of the comments are in the same vein, lightly disguised as being against body augmentation. The cultural beauty obsession is about objectifying and controlling women’s sexuality. From a Venus in Scorpio, who is naturally built more like… Read more »

Hi The Naked Eye, When I read , wild hair, big lips : a sign of wantoness it triggered a strong memory from this wiser Mediterranean 51 woman of when she was a 23 year old girl working in a very misogynistic environment. Wow. I loved Naomi Wolf’s book when I first read it. I’ve amped up my screeches about her wisdom recently. Triggers have been, naturally, the Kartrashians, plus the 4 corners episode recently about so called cosmetic surgeons screwing lower dollar income peoples out of dollars and only delivering pain cubed times financial drainage. The question that Naomi Wolf raised, that has NEVER been satisfactorily answered IMHO, is why are women suffering so much as a consequence of plastic surgery. Especially when they are led to feel painless and supposedly beautiful for such a short time before the cycle is made… Read more »

That recent 4 corners episode was gruesome..

I felt so sad watching an unconscious woman ( general anaesthetic) having her breasts sliced open.
It reminded me of a beast being drawn and quartered. The beast has to be killed to do this. What part of the beast is killed within us that we would so easily submit to this.

Imagine what a child would think watching this. They would have nightmares.

This is already coming into view for me, even flagged The Beauty Myth a week ago as a book to purchase next from Amazon (no, haven’t read it yet). Been finding myself looking at my sister askance lately (she of the augmented breasts and $20,000 to $30,000 worth of “aesthetic medical treatments”), and wondering why she puts up with her decade-older husband, who isn’t all that himself and who requires transactional blow-jobs as well as a 24/7 perfect performance of ultimate femininity from her in order to reassure his own fragile masculinity. Interesting the things people do. This occurs in nature as well, think peacocks and birds like turkey fan and strut to attract, but we as humans are more than animals so I always find it fascinating that some of us do these things. Money and sex are fleeting, here one moment and gone the next. Sex, sex sex, in the end every motive is sexual in this hyper-sexed crazed society we live in. I think the conceptual space you’re referring to is called Kardashistan. Very few people are born there but a lot of ppl apply for citizenship, the passport photos are an industry in themselves)

The young girls may have the antidote. My nearly 15 year old daughter (Virgo) proclaimed to me last week that she is so not into makeup; she is into skincare instead. And she is most interested in Korean skincare as they seem to be up and coming in that area of beauty/aesthetic. She loathes anything from Kardashistan. Her Saturn is on her Kataka MC, both on Sirius, and she takes pleasure in setting girls straight if they so much as defile themselves with even a curse word, much less booty shorts or sexy selfies.
