Every now and then, an argument comes around which basically posits that the Moon sign is as important as, if not more important than the Sun sign. And that the reason the Sun has become SO super-prominent is not so much because it is the centre of this galaxy but because <insert “because of the patriarchy” argument of your choice here>. I
In most cultures, ancient and modern, the Sun is associated with more individualistic, “Yang”and thrusting qualities. Most Sun deities are male. The Moon has always been credited with being “receptive”, to do with “emotions” and Yin. And yes, most Moon deities are female. The was a Babylonian Moon GOD – as in male – called Sin. And of course there are female Goddesses associated with the Sun – eg; Hathor – but still.
So when I was an avid teenager astrologer, i remember this informed but very sexist astrological teacher saying that “the Sun is what we must aspire to – while the Moon is what we are, when we can’t help it.” And then he launched into a diatribe about how men are in fact more aspirational and transcendent by nature while women are just passive forces of nature, organic like the tides and menstruation blah blah blah.
So leaving aside ALL previous concepts about Sun/Moon, Yin/Yang and gender identity – do you “do” your Sun more readily and repress your Moon or are your Solar-Lunar energies balanced?
If you don’t know your Moon sign, it is readily looked up on Astrodienst.
And to get totally into this – question: If your Sun and Moon were to have a dialogue – how would it go?
