Spooky Genius Journal-Writing Technique

Filed in Sagacious

Just in time for Mercury (back) into Virgo, i have a spooky genius new journal writing technique. My wise Libra naturopath turned me onto this and i am a convert.  We don’t even really know the name of it but it is basically ‘non-dominant hand’ something or rather. You may already know of it or of a variant – it is probably a version of automatic handwriting, which is supposed to be magic.  I just call it Spooky Genius.

So you get your journal, book of shadows or a blank notebook and call to mind a dilemma or two. This sort of technique is brilliant for issues that niggle away at you or which your conscious, logical mind seems to be stuck in a groove on. Divide the page into a left and a right column. Then write down a few questions around the dilemma. An example. Let’s say you are a bit stuck on why you are finding it difficult to confront a demanding or inequitable business colleague. Write down questions like: Why am I so uniquely affected by the behavior of X? What is stopping me from changing this situation? Is this somehow triggering a deeper psychological dynamic and if so, what. Why does X treat me poorly? What can i do not to solve this?  Just a number of pertinent questions, whatever you like.

Then you write the answers to these questions with your non-dominant hand in the other column.  In my case, i am left-handed so i scrawled some answers with my right hand. It seems SO simple – TOO simple, really – but what comes up may amaze you. Does it work by accessing a different part of the brain? Subconscious? Spirits? Who knows?  But it works.  Try it and let me know how you go? The shift of Mercury back over the Eclipse Point and into Virgo over the weekend is IDEAL for writing, thinking, scheming, planning and trying out Spooky Genius Journal Writing Techniques!

I’ve just tried this as a way to get thru a big, long term block about something at home. Wow. My other hand writes in a childish script (of course) and the sense is of connecting to id, or a youngest-Pi. Primal or basic needs, it feels like I am learning to speak. I connected with a very deep fear that I thought I didn’t have (any more). Thanks mystic for these posts. X

Hello, yes, I know about this! This technique gets you in contact with your left brain. This is the part of the brain that is connected to your body, your gut instincts, and what we might also call the subconscious. I think of it as the IC of your natal chart. My Pluto in Scorpio lives there (conjunct the IC) & I learnt this technique from an incredible mind-body therapist. I have been using it for about the last six years. Good to see you spreading the gospel MM!

I must admit I can hardly hand write anymore ! That’s what 30 years in tech businesses will do to you. I can’t remember the last time I actually hand wrote anything other than an occasional signature. I’m left handed and was taught as a child to write with ink. Yes I’m that old. That was hard. I got that weird angled hand style to stop smudging the page. I was reading recently that they may phase out teaching kids to hand write. Kataka wife teaches art to kids and she is horrified ! Her claim is that this will… Read more »

Yes she does, the pen/ ink slows down creative movement/ impulse to the paper, though the act of learning to hold/ write develops patience, motor skills.

We need as many different ways of expressing as we can possibly endeavour to do, as it also assists in integrating right/ left spheres of brain.

Writing words accesses a different part of our brain from speaking or typing them. It’s a material process.

Also DL – how else are people going to communicate during the Zombie Apocalypse? There will be no electricity so charcoal sticks to write on walls is all we’ll have hahaha xx

I tried typing it on my iPad left handed instead of right. Even that brought up very different patterns of thinking for me. Much more wild less contained. It was craving freedom !! Well I never. Saggi MC at the galactic centre calling !!

This is great. I’m going to mix and match see what shows up. Write the questions on the right side and answer on the left. I am right handed. Then write the questions on the left and answer on the right. Write with one hand on one side and the answers on the other with same hand etc. I’ll add the exercise of writing out a question and then answering with each hand……..a puzzle working of the mind!

I did this in therapy a few years ago and it was profound. Quantum shifts and releases of very old pain.

Thanks Mystic, that’s such an interesting exercise and topic regarding Left/Right brain hemispheres. I was also taught to do the following:

*Write an answer to this question in a sentence or two.

How am I?

Now write an answer to this question with the opposing hand to that with which you usually write.*

This last one also really gets to the grain of the matter.

Going to try this too thank you Cherry Moon

I sat down and did this in a haunted house I was living in in my 20’s. It said, “Let go”. I thought this vague and positive message was from a creepy spirit as I was in deep fear of, well, everything!
It was mainly weird because it came out backwards so you could use a mirror to read it.

Hmm I like my non dominant hand! Turns out she is wise, practical & very rational! I might ditch the dominant!

Very interesting, and it seems that Escher was ambi (along with da Vinci, Michelangelo and Picasso).

I like his Ascending & Descending Staircase. ….esp the person sitting in the lower right quadrant. Thinking, “I’m not playing his silly game anymore!”.

I will try this, though I know I have a very hard time writing with my non-dominant hand. I really need some help right now. An old issue has come up strongly in the past week and can’t shake it. I thought I had really gotten through this, and now it’s back. Very disheartening. I’m feeling angry and distraught as if it was a fresh situation. Why?!!! So confusing. What’s also weird is that things felt fine during the Mercury retrograde but once Mercury went direct, that’s when things started to feel like a Mercury retrograde, all this past week,… Read more »

I wondered if that might be what happens for people with Mercury retro in the natal chart. I don’t have it in mine, that’s why I thought it was weird for me to experience it in that way, but maybe it’s the Merc/Merc opposition I’m experiencing or all that Pisces/Virgo axis stuff MM was talking about in her last post…

Hope things get less ‘Merc retro’ for you soon! 🙂

We’ve been experiencing unprecedented shifts in consciousness very rapidly for the past year or more, but very much sped up again through the last eclipse window & the higher energies are pushing EVERYTHING up to be resolved, particularly those things we had thought were sorted. This is because there is only so much that can be done/cleared/released & healed from the lower densities & dimensional levels (3D). So once such a massive energy shift occurs again, as has been happening recently & is now occuring again today actually, all that which had been resolved as far as was possible in… Read more »

Ohhhh the natal merc in aqua opposite transit merc! Didn’t even consider…thanks for the insight. Broke my blender and got a huge car bill right as the retrograde ended

Arienaquancer

YES, same regarding Mercury. Retro was fine, as soon as it stationed and went direct Mercury Retrograde stuff started happening. I have natal Mercury retro…but it’s rare for a retrograde to mess with me.

Sorry you’re unhappy, it’s been some really intense times. More intense I think as the eclipse point was activated and mercury went direct and I don’t know what else is going on, but it feels like a lot of people are really raw and jumpy.

I forgot about this! I did this years ago and it was amazing. I just tried this and out came such loving, supportive affirmative statements! An example: ” the more i practice the easier it gets. The right hand is a good guide. Deliberate practice yields good results. I’m better at it than i realize. Don’t panic. Get on your surfboard and ride. Enjoy yourself. Have fun Have fun more often. Say yea without thinking. You are protected. All is calm. All is well. You have a lot to be thankful for. Good choices. You make good choices.” This was… Read more »

That is so beautiful and supportive I feel like crying again! It’s funny how half of our brain can be so positive and loving but the dominant half stops us from doing it. I’m definitely consulting my right brain more often from now on!

Ok just tried this. I’m at a loss of reading my handwriting. Any tips? Cursive or print? Some of my answers were in print and cursive mixed? I got a very clear answer to one of my questions where i was trying t o spell out one word and i wrote another word entirely! very legibly! but a lot of my words look like gibberish. 🙁

Sankt Freundin
Sankt Freundin

I must try this ASAP! I’m stuck with a love scenario and with deciding whether to take a risky career/life move or not. Also my Virgo Mars is tripping and I’m suddenly stressing over my work and budget, guilt-tripping over a holiday I booked when Mars in Leo and the ‘not perfectly perfect enough’ picks for AirBnB for the holiday and so on. This is madness. Phew.

Sankt Freundin
Sankt Freundin

Edit. Tried it. It’s spooky. Like an alien hand. And I can’t quite interpret what my hand wrote. I asked myself if X has true potential or am I missing him for other reasons. The answer was ‘X is a good man. He suits you but you’re unable to turn your head into his direction’ (=literally turn my head, this is a translation from Finnish). Spooky. Weird. Useful.

Sankt Freundin

Other try. I asked about my career. I’m planning on continuing my interior design studies in university and then specializing in feng shui and biogeometry. The answer was curiously ‘You’re good at designing if you are brave enough. Don’t let insecurity stand on your way to the future that is set in stone and the road to reality.’ I almost feel like crying… I think the last part points to the book ‘Road to Reality’ by Roger Penrose, which is a guide to the modern physics, including quantum physics. So I think the answer is yes yes yes. The ‘set… Read more »

Also the “set in stone and road” maybe references to bio-geometry and use of design in real life…like literal stones and roads???

Sankt Freundin
Sankt Freundin

Yeah, the responses were so beautiful and supportive that when I was writing my journal with my right hand in the evening, I realized that normally I have a very negative undertone whenever I write my journal.

And yup, my right brain apparently likes metaphores. The answers are literally in my head and I think this means a go for biogeometry and also points towards architecture? Because I’ve been thinking between interior design and architecture.

Arienaquancer
Arienaquancer

You might look into landscape architecture? Visions of dry-stack stone walls came to mind reading your post, and it’s, all, ALL, about using design to work with energy. Ultimately you might end up studying and working with all of these things – interior design, feng shui, biogeometry, architecture – so the question between you and the universe may not be “which one?” but rather, “which one FIRST?” 😀

I get students do the “Betty” drawing with the right side of your brain technique by copying an upside down image. They love it. Writing feedback and then reports so I’ll try it after I have a in-fried brain.

I have just had a weirding from writing in a new journal, and i have not written in a journal for quite some time. So i checked in. This weirding has Aboriginal spirit in it, and i don’t understand why. I know how and all, and it has been here for all time, and even with me in my only forever this one, but i’m kind of blown apart, or blowing together with it. Bought the journal as a souvenir a while ago so it has Kimberley spirits on its cover. It was tissue-wrapped so i didn’t look as i… Read more »

I know a few people in Aus who “feel the presence” of local Aboriginal spirits.

The spirits don’t care if you’re aboriginal or not—if you have weird experiences…it’s probably them.

Starinspired

Ugh, my whole life has been spent in this spirit world. Australia is rampant with aboriginal & colonial earthbound souls. I moved last november from a house that ALWAYS smelled of fires smoulfering & burning flesh. Psychic smells that i couldnt get any distance from & that strangely hauntingly & suffocatingly filled up my lungs. It was such hard work being there. But they are active everywhere i go. I’ve house-sat alot & the last two homes ovee the last couple of months, both had tge aboriginal earthbound souls there. The first had a man hanging from the tree nearest… Read more »

Oh & in my home, the one i left in november, the smouldering fire & flesh smells, smoke etc, came always with repetetive visions of little shelters along the river bed being set on fire by stockmen while aboriginal people were sleeping in them. Awful scene.

Grateful to you both for replying because i was in some sort of neptunian journal trance and still mind-blown. Read my wordy blathering and felt cringey, not at idea, just wordiness. It’s been a constant. I also really spirituually loathe the dark energies of the violent ended presences, but they’re not usually vindictive towards me. Just a strong dark vortex that can definitely feed (both ways, me to them, them to me) when i’m not doing so lightly myself. That eco-village, though. You know i’ve often noticed how contemporary spaces layer right over some intense gathering of old emotional sites.… Read more »

Top sports ppl have bee doing a simile of this for a long time. It does bring in the other hemisphere so that when you revert to your dominant side the lessons learnt are applied.

Writing the answers with the non-dominant would be accessing a different paradigm; l imagine. I will try it.

Thank you MM, and I can’t believe the synchronisation here that is occurring while trying to grapple with some hefty inner psych workings. I enjoyed this exercise. And what came out was actually very interesting to see that my answers were like talking to my own best friend. There was this kind of objectivity taking place on the page and not so much negative self talk that I thought I would write about. What a helpful exercise and one that I would employ in the future as it seems to access that right hand side of the brain. Pragmatic and… Read more »

I’ve tried doing this! And i just can’t! I’m unable to write with my left hand, i can’t even do ‘e’s or D’s or B’s or S’s the right way around. I had to come up with a modified version which is to write without thinking around the question (ie. first thing that pops into your head and no filtering, don’t even read it until later). Wish i could write with my non-dominant hand!!

Plum
Plum

I just tried it, but not in a journal. Had to use a large sheet of paper and write slowly, in single words and short phrases rather than full sentences as I’m also very right-dominant. It’s a giant, barely legible scrawl but there are one or two new ideas in there. It worked best when I focused on writing not thinking, and on instinctive answers rather than allowing myself to respond with further questions, which I discovered I tend to do.

Stella

I did the exercise in a journal but then had to write out my key findings again as I wouldn’t be able to read them otherwise.
