Ask Mystic: Not Really A Capricorn?

Annie Liebovitz

Dear Mystic Medusa,

My Sun sign is supposed to be Cappi, but it seems like I am the opposite. Capricorns are supposed to have great control over their emotions and appear distant, but I couldn’t be any further away from that description. I have always been over emotional in situations.

As for organization, routine and tradition, I am the opposite of that too!! I constantly forget things, cannot keep a good routine and I always challenge old traditions and ways. It is true that I have a lot of Aquarius on my chart, so could this be what makes me different??

Are there other Capricorns out there like me? Who cannot relate to the description?  My ascendant is Leo and my birth date is December 28th, 2000.

Thank you,
The Different Capricorn

Dear Different Capricorn,

This is an interesting question in a number of different ways.  Capricorn Vibe tends to show itself the older you are get and you are just 15 so consider that you will grow into your Capricorn Sun (and Mercury!) as you mature. Capricorn is the sign of time and one of the things Solar Capricorn is genius at?  Thriving over time. Endurance is a core competence of Capricorn and anyone with big-time Saturn influences.

Also, you may see yourself as not having a good routine but that too could be a product of just being super-young, right? It takes time to devise a regime that works for you and it’s possible that you could be rejecting those that are imposed upon you as Capricorn is a “boss” sign.  Generally, Capricorns have healthy respect for traditions that work and open doors for them but are not automatically impressed by what went before just because…

You and every other contemporary Capricorn are doing Pluto (since 2008) until 2024. So you’re over-turning the dead turf and seeding your own new Zeitgeist. Capricorn is the On Time sign. If data is outmoded, why use it? But okay, fine – your Leo Rising (the most brash ascendant of all!) could be blasting out your Capricorn. It’s a bit like an orchestra, with Capricorn being the elegant woodwind and your Leo rising the brass. We hear only the trumpets.

And you have Moon, Venus, Lilith, Neptune and Uranus in Aquarius – so absolutely a heap of Aquarius there.  But wow, imagine that brilliance when you blend all these together into a stunning composition. Uranian-Aqua ingenuity with the focus and true grit work ethic of Capricorn. Because no matter WHAT else is going on, Capricorn Vibe will work and persevere.

It’s not so much that Capricorns are like these cyborgs where everything is forever on point – it is more that they are capable of long term planning, incredible focus, that ferocious work ethic and that they think in terms of longevity. Two examples of Capricorns with Leo Rising like you: Kate Moss & the recently departed Muhammad Ali. They seem like an odd pairing but despite her hedonistic image, it is her intense work ethic that has kept Ms Moss long-term thriving in an industry that notoriously feeds off youthful beauty.

And Muhammad Ali was renowned for his hardcore dedication.

Look Leo and vibe as Aqua-inventive as you want but remember that the platinum strength of Capricorn – Cardinal Earth – is also there like a secret super-powered solid plateau sustaining you beneath the rest of it.

Those are my thoughts – what does everyone else think?

I’m Cappy rising and I totally agree with the Mer-goat symbolism, there’s a whole lot of watery vibe hidden in Capricorn’s stoic front. It’s like they dream of Atlantis and work really hard to channel that pool of memory to bring heaven to earth via pure work drive and ethic

Loved reading this Q&A! I too am a Cap who never felt like she was under the right Sun sign…until this year. In fact, when I was 15, I remember searching for answers that I truly belonged to another Sun sign because I just felt SO FAR removed from traditional Cap descriptions. Even now, at 27, I might lean a little too hard on my Gemini rising to describe myself. But in the past 12 months I have never felt more Cap…I got a new job, higher salary, finally getting my finances in order, and feel like I’m building towards… Read more »

LOL, this is a typically Capricorn thing – to wonder if you’re ‘getting on’ in timely manner etc. I remember writing in my diary: Oh My God – I am 16 and I still have not accomplished anything!’

24 years later I still think that every day in one way or another, LOL. Oh well. My rising Gem messes with my Cappie tendencies for sure.

Wow 15… I was fifty shades of emotion at 15. That year I had my first sex, cigarette, joint, & night of drunkenness. Not all in the same day lol. I’m without Earth in my chart, mostly water with MC in Sagittarius (conjunct Neptune). My problem with routine at that time was that one was foisted upon me & I resented every minute of it. Anything resembling a routine gave me the shits. Now in my early 40s & still this is an issue– so I guess it wasn’t a phase. But look at you, concerned about keeping a (good)… Read more »

I have 2 boy god kids (one is in late 30s & the other early 30s now) who are Cappies. Older is Gem Asc & Aqua Moon. The other is Aqua AC, Taurus Moon. The eldest was the biggest space cadet from about 13 to 20 that ever existed – a mind like a sieve, and the hygiene of a goat … oooh yeah. He is now one of the world’s top commercial photographers – and has a meticulous monochromatic wardrobe. The other Cappie tried out every lifestyle choice you can imagine – from boxer to crusty traveller, to architect.… Read more »

One of the most energetically impressive young persons I have met in many years is a Capricorn and recently asked me a similar question. Almost his entire chart is in Capricorn and is the least boring corporate person you can meet. This kid is made for big things and is going to create something important. I have the strongest feeling. You are 15, use your time well. That is all, the rest will come

Caps are The Boss archetype. THIS is why my truest of loves have been Caps, all 3 of them. MUst align with my Venus Cap and my rising Cap. As a mutli Sagg didn’t appreciate that ‘take charge’ around my wide open fields until i was older then understood on Caps get most of my admiration and have found the females to have a very discreet red hot sexuality by seeing their bedrooms and choice of men. How fab to have all that Aqua with a Leo rising over you! And the stamina to be all of their excellent qualities.… Read more »

My Cappy boy has Moon in Aqua and Scorpio Rising. It sounds pretty cool as a combo, but in reality he is a playful, smiley and sunny little dude. Also Full Moons have a bad rap but I ran Full Moon beach parties for years and we never had any fights or violence occur. Always peaceful and exuberant. Joseph Campbell says, which I think can apply to astrology: “..the first function of mythology [is] to evoke in the individual a sense of grateful, affirmative awe before the monstrous mystery that is existence”. It seems to me myth is a nervy… Read more »

I always say that it’s caps, not the aquarians who are the real rebels of the zodiak. Well because a Cap Sun always progresses into Aquarius and then you have 30 years of rebelling against whatever you wish to rebel agains. Whereas Aquarian Sun progresses first into Pisces and this is when Aquarians are suddenly compassionate and sentimental, so there’s not a lot of room for revolutionary activities. Caps: David Lynch, Basquiat, Miyazaki, Elvis, Bowie, Patti Smith, Simone de Beauvoir, Castaneda, Susan Sontag, Henry Miller, Isaac Asimov, Martin Luther King, Isaac Newton and Alessandro Michele (that’s like the most important… Read more »

Jeffrey Greene writes about the Opposite Point of planetary placements- especially Pluto and N Node, but lots about synthesizing. You might find Dear Capricorn that the Moon phase rhythms are a lovely way to order your days. Mystic has lots in her past blogs. Dark Moon declutter, purge, the decks. New Moon, set intentions and really feel the energy-state of what you seek. Make a plan. Up to Full Moon- where you sit- soaking in and radiating that wish and release it. Post Full Moon move towards yin- manage details- notice little shifts- and express gratitude. Dark Moon remove more… Read more »

My gosh, as I read the note from Different Cap, I thought of my sister. She was Capricorn with Leo Rising and this lady’s description of herself mirrored my sister! Then I read this lady is also Leo rising. How fascinating!

Worn by Scorpio, Adam Driver! He does have that goat-like look that so many Caps have. And I don’t mean that in a bad way…it’s more like craggy features, long, strong noses.

Hello, fellow Cap! I have a huge, ridiculous amount of Capricorn in my chart and sometimes I get so irritated about some of the things written online (not on this site!) that pretty much write us off as dull, tradition-bound stoics. One thing I would say about the emotional reserve is that I was always confused about this because I am over-emotional to the point of pathology BUT when I sat and thought about it, people I had been close to in the past (especially romantically) had accused me of being emotionally distant and not caring, even though I felt… Read more »

I like caramel coated carbines. I’ve been arrested for 3 different crimes in Oz’s ‘hardest to get arrested state’ – SA. I also got arrested for those same crimes (76-78) 35 years later. I was dun speeding in my Kombi in ’13. Arrested in Vic for crimes l had done AND convicted for in SA. All because NSW was the state that stored information before computers were linked nationally. The computer base indicated the crimes had actually been committed in NSW, not SA. I said they were in SA. They had detained me for 90 mins. The bad cop said… Read more »

I just read an article about a woman who says that she used to be unpopular and cry herself to sleep because she didn’t have a boyfriend unlike her friends. She focused on business because she didn’t believe she would ever be married, so she was planning on a sperm bank. Well, now she’s a successful business woman with an incredible fiancé and that being alone and all those trials helped develop tenacity. Than I read her bio blurb at the bottom where it states she is 23 years old. No disrespect to the young people, believe me, I started… Read more »

Some of the most outrageous people I know are Caps. I’m very cardinal, Aries sun in the 10th Mars in cancer first house, Saturn in cap which is my 7th house. I get Caps and it doesn’t usually take much cajoling to turn that austere serious exterior into the wild party animal lurking inside. They are also very generous cause they understand that maxim, what goes around comes around. Look, you’re 15 ! That’s flake city from my experience of being 15 and raising them. Right now you are going through some major synapse connection action. By the time you’re… Read more »

Spot on I have been married to my beautiful goat just over 40years we both have evolved we both have Aquarius influence, I’m a dear little Aries we have a chuckle and ask often who where those two who decided to share their lives together in 1976. Lucky you for exploring all this at 15 just have fun (we just always do even in the mundane) goats are fabulous.

I always heard/read that Capricorn was a sign that aged backwards, so to speak. That Capricorns were born with the personas of older adults and became more carefree and child-like as they grew into old age. My 4 year old nephew is a Capricorn with a Christmas birthday, and everyone always remarks that he seems very serious and stoic, even appearing to have a grumpy “old man” expression most of the time when he was a baby! I read an interesting article once that said that Capricorns aren’t born knowing how to be innately happy. Happiness doesn’t come naturally to… Read more »

Yes have Leo sun, Aqua moon, Cap rising…took me forever to get a handle on the ’emotionally detached’ aqua moon energy & when I did -post saturn return & then some- the Cap energy felt so much more supportive rather than restrictive…gives the leo energy space & structure in which to play & create…

Dear darling 15yo and Mystic. Couldn’t agree more. I’m a Sun Cap with Mercury and Venus in Aquarius. I was very unimpressed with the ‘responsible, resolute, reserved’ viewpoint given out by astrologers about Caps when I was getting into astrology at 15. Mystic is bang on and I want to add: Capricorn is about learning AND shaking up routines and institutions especially if you have Aqua as well – I’ve spent my working life in government, boring right, no, I have worked in social policy and community development and international aid applying my office and writing skills to improve organizations… Read more »
