Maximizing The Mars Saturn Conjunction

Boris Hallvig

Readers of my Horoscopes will know that i am a big fan of the Mars-Saturn conjunction coming up this week. The Warrior Tenacity and Vim of Mars tempered with Saturn’s Mature Judgment is a winner. All right, fine. It could also be a reality flashpoint: an encounter with time, money, or stamina limits. But even if it is that, the experience will fortify your resolve and provide valuable data.

These two queries and my responses reveal more about this upcoming astro-thrill.

Dear Mystic,

I’m scared, and I’ll be quick. I’ve been following your smart, witty, super fresh blog for months and know that September will be the grand finale of the Saturn-Neptune square.

The effect of this square, which is already scary enough on paper, is somewhat personal for me, as Saturn is conjunct my Sun in Sagittarius and Neptune sits precisely on my Moon.

I feel like I am the walking talking personification of the Neptune-Saturn square. You said in the horoscopes that we should remember how we spent last years Halloween for any clues on how it will all play out.

The Mars Saturn Conjunction Is A Call To Action

That’s easy. Last Halloween I was dressed up as Khaleesi partying in LA when a very Neptunian so-called friend drugged me without my knowledge and my entire life fell apart. I won’t bore you with the details, but I haven’t been the same since. In that time, my job, my home, look, relationships, friendships, favorite colors, beliefs all changed. Although it felt terrible at the time, I am better off now. It was like pulling rotten teeth without anesthesia for months on end.

Still, although I am learning my lessons and cooperating with transits, I’m not too keen on going through all of the last year’s agony again.

I read that these hard transits that come round three times through direct/retrograde/direct motion over a sensitive point in your chart are like a strict teacher. They shock you with the new things you have to learn, then hitting your fingers with a stick to make sure you learn your lesson, and the third time just checking if you did your homework.

Shit Happens That Compels You To Revalue Your Time, Money And Energy

Is that true? Will it be easier this last time around? Or can I prepare myself once again for the Apocalypse, that will inevitably happen in autumn/winter? Do you have any tips for survival?

Please help!!!

A rather worried Sagittarius

Dear Worried Sagittarius,

I hope one of the “rotten teeth” you got rid of was that faux friend. As stressful as that event was, it exposed your circle of friends and this particular person for the negative vortex of toxic energy that they are. How else would you have found out?

During a Saturn-Moon transit, a book toppled out of the top bookshelf in a shop and whacked me in the head. It was so intense the sharp corner left a mark on my forehead. It was the Oriah Mountain Dreamer one. On the cover, it said, “wake my love, you are walking asleep…and there’s no safety in that.”

See The Mars Saturn Conjunction As A Bright Sword

See this Mars Saturn conjunction as a bright sword, cutting away darkness and dank spirits so your Moon in Pisces can shine. This whole episode has, if you think about it, forced you to excavate this iridescent enchanted moonstone from the stagnant waters.

The Mars Saturn conjunction of this week adds extra vim and guts to it. And yes, the third stanza will be the best, for sure. Maybe an affirmation arises that makes you SO relieved that you are in this new stance now.

As for my Saturn tips – I am weaving them into every Horoscope, always. Summary: no bullshit, value your time, money, and energy, have a proper plan.

Hi Mystic,

As a dearest fan and long-time subscriber, I want to say thank you for the work that you do. Your empowered, intuitive, and inspired interpretation of the cosmos is fucking unprecedented and ridiculously on-point. No one does it like you, and you’ve carried me from my Saturn return to the bitter end of my recent Venus-Pluto transit.

I know you are busy being the queen bee of Astro- but I want to ask you a question about this Mars-Saturn hook up this week. I have a couple of other (mediocre) astrology blogs and scopes I gander at sometimes, and what the hell is it with these jerks? They speak so begrudgingly about this Mars-Saturn moment, which in my eyes is pretty incredible no? As in, this is usable and tangibly good for business.

Mars Means “Set Your Stance”

I have been plugging away trying to make shit happen in business realms and dealing with the most dour of relational crap. But I have two super essential meetings this week for a creatively brilliant project I have been concocting. To me, the timing felt empowered and useful. But then I read this other humdrum crap, and it made me second-guess.

Anyway, you the queen – and if you can’t answer I get it, your horoscopes have erred more on my side for sure. But really why do other astrologers feed into this negative predictive BS? Thanks for doing it right. For fuq sake.

Devoted subscriber for life,
Jennie the Taurus Sun Saggi rising

Hi, Jennie the Taurus,

Thank you!  I think that everyone has their distinctive style of astrology and that people find the voice that most resonates with their own. I like to try a positive angle to work any planetary vibe and have been studying Saturn in particular for ages. That’s because i know it is suspect number one when crap goes down. But in Sagittarius, you keep on seeing things as they are – not as you want them to be. And once you get through the disappointment/irritation, it’s strengthening and liberating beyond belief. You’re not putting any effort into flimsy facades or trying to pretend shit is real when it’s just not.

So i don’t usually read other astrology as i like to do my own thing, but I did see something the other day, and the gist of it was that Saturn would cramp the style of Mars, like a dark, gloomy Saturnine shroud over the exhilaration of the spunky Mars. But Saturn is like the Sage, representing wisdom that you can only get via time. Or through making poor decisions and then having to live with those consequences.

So when Mars meets Saturn, you get the vim and tenacity of Mars as the Warrior, tempered by the Saturn caution.

As for meetings, i have scheduled them up to BE this week and specifically on Wednesday.

And, as you say, it’s the culmination of something that’s been trying to happen all year. It’s also on the eve of Eclipse Season and the final Saturn-Neptune square. So Mars-Saturn is our opportunity to set our stance and greet September from a stability standpoint.

What does everyone else think?

I’m loving this Astro. I am skint, like totally properly skint. I just had 4 days off, grounded at home, torrential rain all the way through. No money to go out to do things inside, can’t do free things outside. Mars and Saturn conjunct my Venus/Neptune, in the 4th. You are not going out, baybee. So what do I do, succumb to cheap wine in the cupboard left over from a long-ago party. no I do not. Found solace in warrior pose today during my most tearful yoga session ever. No wonder it felt so good.

Been driving around with a moonstone in my car – belated birthday gift for my nephew whose father is deceased and whose mother stole from him and then abandoned him.

The big themes, always, but its these smaller connections that always get me.

My kids’ karate class is outside on Wednesday, with all age groups and parent involvement. I’ll send out some warrior vibes to the PIAB crew.

Last year Halloween….boring. At home with Torro doing nothing. Our kids are too old, not with us, on Halloween. No adult parties for us. Our neighborhood gets no trick or treaters at all. None. It was the 29th anniversary of getting my first female flow! This Halloweenwill be my 30th!!!! Holy moly. I have been a Woman for 30 years. {{{{{Hugs}}}}} You’re right: you’re fuqing yourself with the alcohol. I’m concerned about your being alone with your probs + Pisces moon; I mean, what you’re going thru right now is stressful as fuq for anyone, & do you have someone regular you can vent to & process with? Have/do/would you consider hiring someone to be a really good friend you could process & vent with (aka seeing a counselor)? I know: money. Thanks so much, Ankh, I did reach out for some counseling and right now I have the State insurance, so I can get some help free of charge, so that is a blessing.

Sending power to you for staying off the alcohol, I also have had a problem with drink in the past, so much so that I cannot even smell wine anymore (close on to two bottles a day back in 1999), coping mechanism, same. It can be broken, and horizons will lift. Just from doing that. It affects everything. You can do this, you got this. What price your mental health? Thank you for your encouragement, Ampersand!

It’s inspiring to know you were able to leave the alcohol behind and thrive on! Thank you for letting me know you believe I can do the same. I felt hopeless about my ability to stop this pattern after the episode this past weekend. When you say it is a coping strategy that is outdated, that is exactly what it feels like, and putting it that way helps me believe I will be able to leave it behind. : )

Absolutely you can do anything you set your mind to. I have other addictions (tobacco, junk food) so I’m not all the way there but small positive changes are the way to go. Alcohol was the biggie though. It is encouraging you reached out and hope you can find some good support where you live. Check out milk thistle as well, liver cleanser and detoxer, I used it for a time when I was clearing out a candida overgrowth. Might give you a boost physically that will help with the head stuff. 🙂

I’ve been off alcohol since 2008. Worked with a drug counselor who helped me cut down and gently end it completely. I consider it one of the best decisions I ever made and the most priceless gift I gave myself. Good luck and hugs. Hey have you been reading the thingamies ^ there flowerchild? There appears to be a bunch of us with Neptune/Saturn 9 or 10 house and 6th house blues. With the alcohol, if it’s leading you to feel suicidal after a binge that’s a worry. I used to work in suicide prevention and the mantra generally goes – don’t ignore it, talk about it. People who have thoughts of suicide are more likely to impulsively act on those thoughts under the influence. Not saying you are, just that it does happen. A lot. Interesting that you say you get turned off by the whole drinking thing after an episode. Sometimes for a few weeks. You also mentioned many stress factors in your life at the mo. What do you reckon motivates you to go back into that pattern of coping?

flowerchild
flowerchild

Yeah, it’s kind of an odd pattern but I think it is just a lazy habit I’ve developed. I definitely need to get more creative in handling my stress. I tend to do this type of drinking when I’ve hit a wall and feel sort of trapped in my life, stuck in the city, nowhere to go.. It’s like I take a little vacation from myself when I get that wasted, to get away from it all, to get away from my life by getting in an altered state.. Ah yes … In Aus we’d call that a “2 pot screamer” … 2 pints and they’ve passed out or blacked out. I remember talking to a psychologist person years ago about how waking up from a coma was very similar to waking up after a black out drinking episode. Not comfortable. As if the spirit has temporarily left the body and now needs to go back in and reintegrate. She said how coma patients rarely wake up all lovey dovey … usually they are disoriented, depressed, angry. Depending on their “time out”. Having that experience once a month must… Read more »

Interesting about the coma patients, yes, I think it’s difficult and exhausting to continually have to reintegrate into myself. This is a good point! Thanks for sharing that comparison. Very illuminating!

Yes, drink could be messing with your blood sugar et al., but the main thing about alcohol is that it’s a Depressant. Not an upper, but a downer.

(And it can depress your mood for days or weeks after one night of drinking.)

flowerchild

Yes! Thanks for the reminder! It’s like I know it’s a depressant, but I don’t think about that until it’s too late!
It’s true that the depressive phase lasts for awhile after….scary. I also notice I want to eat more sugary things for the week or so after I’ve had a night of drinking, and I’m not usually a sugar craver.
This is all good information….thanks!

MM is right about Saturn! Make a proper plan. Make one now for next time you want to drink. Have it in place before you need it.

Thank you, Catfish moon! I’m definitely going for the counseling after this past emotionally harrowing weekend. That is the first thing on the list for my plan! Meanwhile I put a note to myself next to my bed that says ‘please don’t drink alcohol, choose differently’ and I put a big heart around it. Thanks for your vote of encouragement for the job! I don’t really have anyone I can call if I feel the need to drink, but maybe I could call my therapist, once I get one. I don’t really feel drawn to go to AA.. I try to have a high protein and healthy fats (omega-3’s, etc.) & veggies type of diet, with little carbs, that seems best for my brain/mind/emotions. Oh you poor thing- the post drinking blues is terrible..like being on a horrid desert island. For me the worst part of post-drinking blues is my nasty nagging inner voice being terribly cruel to me with endless berating. Asides from making great efforts to moderate my drinking I now tell that voice to f off as I am perfectly aware of how much time etc have wasted with, first the drinking and then the write-off after.

Beauty treatments all sorted too – talk about getting my priorities straight but I had to get EVERYTHING waxed today because I couldn’t get the thought out of my monkey-mind that if I died on the operating table I’d hate to spend eternity in the after-life with a big ol’ hairy bush. I’d make for a scary enough ghost with out that sight to haunt… Read more »

This is so helpful as my live-in Saggi FiL has been driving me.. bats?! Really not sure if I have bitten off more than I can chew here. Eg. Me: The cat has a flea we need to brush them daily for fleas or Spring will be a disaster in the house. Him: How long does it take to brush the cat? What is the time frame involved? I do not know if I have this time available. Is there a special method to brushing the cat? How do you catch a flea? What does a flea look like? Are… Read more »

So I have Sun at 12 Sag in the 1st.
And Neptune currently opp my Virgo Pluto Chiron in the 10th and near my Chiron/Jupiter in the 4th.
And I’m watching Four Corners and those kids who just lost their free-Syrian Army Dad to Isis and I’m thinking, we can handle this (ie OUR western lives).
Like Marcus Aurelius (and many others in other words have said) don’t waste energy indulging the fear the next hit of Saturn-Neptune:
Rather: “confine yourself to the present”.
One foot in front of the other.
One minute at a time.

soz, that’s Pluto-Ceres in the 10th, not Chiron, who is most definitely in my 4th

Funny, I was just advising one of my patrons the same re: his new stalker: Don’t project disaster. Don’t create apocalyptic scenarios. What can you do right now? What is your next step, and that only?

^^ This. I am doing my damndest to feed the good wolf of peace and protection and highest good and to ignore that fuquer bad wolf who wants me to be afraid and paranoid and “project disaster.” You know, the old Native story about two wolves that live in your heart, doing battle, and which one wins? The one that you feed…

That so resonates. The “confine yourself to the present thing” is just a mantra. In truth, I am looking back on 20 years and thinking, how did I give away so much power?
How can I stop giviing away so much power?
To my own fears, my own delusions,
And whose to say which is which.
Where the fuq is Marcus Aurelius when I need him, hmm?

Attempting to buy a house and today discovered it has water damaged foundations. Neptune square Saturn anyone? Am now trying to decide whether to do the work to fix it or walk away. Meanwhile transiting Mars and Saturn are conjunct my Neptune and transiting Neptune is conjunct my Mercury. What am I doing??

On Saturn-Mars-Neptune:Can’t make this up- at a local country music concert-dad and son brawl with deputy. Dad choked deputy- when son was arrested for being p–ss drunk.

Don’t walk away: RUN! Run as fast as your legs can carry you!

You should have been aware of the water damage before signing: use that.

Catfish moon

Mercury in shadow has come to the rescue! Yo can change terms of price or end negotiations, assuming you had it contingent on inspection results.

Foundations are expensive to repair. Are you up for that? If so You need to lower your asking price to cover expenses. Also, it will probably cost more than anticipated as mor damage would become visible during work.

I would run!

I would say this year has been the WORST year I’ve had on record since 2006. And that’s saying something coz 06 was pretty bad. The Saturn Neptune square has totally fuqed with my work ethic and career. As in I have none. Zip. The motivation of a slug who just munched through a few buds of weed. Saturn (going through my 6th) and Neptune (stuck in my 10th) has meant the end of a career with absolutely no idea what to do next. I sorta have these vague whims that fizzle out after a few weeks. It’s REALLY annoying… Read more »

wow this is sounding so similar to my story – saturn in my 6th and neptune in my 9th. since march i’ve had zip all momentum in the career sector, partially due to a bit of burn out from crushing full time work at the same time as a full time arts residency. blurgh. cappy sun with cancer ascendant so normally i like to get. shit. done. hehe since march the biggest achievement has been cleaning under the couch after i dropped a bag of chips…almost like chronic fatigue or something! only in the last couple of weeks has it… Read more »

lol … well chiron is also in my 10th *insert eye roll* and my natal neptune is in my sixth house with saturn going over and over and over it like a freaking stalker.

Funny you say you want to learn something new. The past few weeks I’ve got a bug up my butt about learning maths. I always ignored math at school thinking it was tres dull, but now I feel it’s something I MUST KNOW. Like all these years my brain has been lopsided by too much humanities and not enough bottom line logic.

AnkhRising8.0MM Member

And that’s why math is so Beyond: it’s the simplest bottom-line logic, *and* Infinity all at once! So Saturn-sq-Neptune imho.

I was thinking of you this a.m. Prowln (b/c your sitch so reminds me of my own circa 2000-’09, hello South Node-Neptune transit) & the 1st thing I thought/remembered was School: getting back into class & learning something new from the ground up Saved Me! Brought back my passion, my joie de vivre! A total renewal 🙂

SAME! And same, 6th and 10the. I think one factor is boredom, for sure, the Gemini nemesis. The other, in my case, is neptunian disillusionment. I need a dream and hope to keep going, but the 6th/10th realms seem to be filled with “disruption” BS artists (and I fear I am one) or fearful, teeth-bared survivalists (another kind of crap artist). I’m not afraid of hard work, but really, toward what end? Struggle up a rock face just to find a bunch of fedora trolls drinking cheap beer and making comments about my ass? Because that’s what success today kind… Read more »

Mars-Saturn on Antares on my MC, very personal for me, though I’m uncertain as to how this will manifest (the previous Mars-Saturn conjunction occurred in Scorpio so more explosive – I see Mars-Saturn as irresitable force meeting absolute restraint, heat meeting ice, something usually cracks under this pressure. However this time ’round the planets merge in super-friendly giant-sized Jupiter-ruled Sag. Saturn’s been squaring Neptune on my ASC for eons, a testing time for friendships where many have ended – Pluto on the 11th hs cusp has seen to the permanency or the transformation of these, including my own direction, goals… Read more »

Cazimi – same transits as me, neptune on my Asc and saturn on my MC exact. Cazimi
Cazimi

Way, you mean I have a twin? I feel less alone already! I think the Saturn square Neptune friendship thingy works through the ASC – DC relationship axis – Saturn represents boundaries & Neptune works to dissolve them, so issues of personal boundaries are sure to come up, especially good for Pisces rising natives who tend to put up with shite by dissolving into nothingness. Did you notice also that transit north node is opposing from Virgo? Something decidedly spooky & karmic about all these squaring & opposing one another at this time; hope Wednesday is great for you &… Read more »

I have Natal Mars conjunct Saturn in Virgo 6th house. I love this from MM

‘i see Saturn as being like the Sage, as the wisdom (always remember this) that you can only get via time or through making poor decisions and then having to live with those consequences. So when Mars meets Saturn, you get the vim and tenacity of Mars as the Warrior, tempered by the Saturn caution.’
