What does the astrology of asteroid Icarus mean?
Icarus is a psychological complex, and of course, he is a character in mythology. The boy whose inventor father fashions him a pair of wings so that they may both escape from Crete. The island featured the minotaur, mad king and a queen who had sex with a bull. Icarus ignores his father’s warnings to fly a middle path, went too close to the Sun and his wings melted. Or did they?
The author Seth Godin wrote a funky little book called The Icarus Deception, basically saying that this myth was like propaganda for slaves and those who would defy the established order. I never fully trusted Daedelus – he had form with jealousy of younger men, having taken out his nephew.
Anyway, Icarus is also an asteroid – number 1566 if you want to throw it into your chart via the extended chart options on Astrodienst. So do you experience it as where you’re nuts, driven by hubris and likely to fly too close to ‘the Sun’?
Or, is it operating for you more like how my friend Kim Falconer describes the influence of asteroid Icarus: “Freedom, expansion, liberation, an attempt to escape intolerable situations, vivid inspiration.”?
