Awesome Chinese New Year Competition

Johnny Weissmuller

The Chinese New Year is upon us, the Year of the Monkey. It is always the New Moon in Aquarius, which is kind of cool as it is one of the freshest and most funky New Moons of the year – any year.

The New Moon/Chinese New Year on February 8 features a New Moon in sync to Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius. Innovation becomes us – the Weirding is here.

I am not a Chinese Astrologer but i do gather that the Monkey years favor agility & carry a Trickster type vibe. However I am running a competition (all subscribers eligible) to celebrate.

There are three prizes – three winners:

(1) A full on Feng Shui consult with my Feng Shui Mistress – Carolyn – She will help you zuzu your joint up into full high Qi Awesome. Thanks to the miracles of Google Earth, she can work with you anywhere on the planet, as Google Earth provides exact alignment and other details. She just needs a floor plan. Carolyn is a Quintuple Virgo and also a personal organizer so she won’t bog you down in impossibly esoteric details.

(2) Prize two is an extended acupuncture/Chinese herbs consult with an acupuncture genius of your or my choice. As in, if you have a fave person, i will just sort it with them. If not, i ask my network for a recommendation in your area. I think acupuncture is just magic.

(3) This beautiful necklace from New York designer Julep Jiang – who incorporates magic and Taoist thoughts into her designs but is not remotely hippie.

Julep Jiang infuses the refreshing simplicity of her aesthetic into jewelry that has evolved from an alloy of Eastern and Western culture. The Heavenly Waters Collection draws on the role that numerology plays on Eastern culture. Eight is the luckiest of all numbers symbolizing abundance and good fortune. These ideas are distilled and interpreted in shape and measurement in this Pyxis pendant. The circle has a perimeter of 8mm and the diamond measures 0.8mm in diameter.

To be in the running, just riff off your Chinese Year and whether or not you fit it and/or any amusing/informative anecdote referencing Chinese Astrology Animals.  Please be logged in when you comment so i can see your subscriber badge. I will announce the three happy-lucky winners on Chinese New Year!

I’ve often felt more aligned with my Fire Dragon sign than my Cancer Sun one, but perhaps that’s because I have moon, mars and saturn conjunct in Leo! As a naughty Dragon, though, I can never resist telling a Snake, when I meet them, that the Snake is apparently the Dragon’s son. They are almost always miffed! The Snake is only one of the Dragon’s fascinating nine sons in Chinese mythology, though, so I’ll quickly introduce you to the rest of the Dragon’s offspring as well as the Snake. – Hybrid of tiger and dragon: likes litigation, places over prison… Read more »

I’ve often thought that my Fire Dragon Chinese sign fits me much better than my Western Cancer Sun, but maybe that’s because I have moon/mars/saturn conjunct in Leo! As a naughty Dragon, I can never resist, when I meet a Snake, telling them that the Snake is the Dragon’s son. They are almost always miffed!!! But it seems quite likely when you think of the appearances of the two animals. Actually, the Dragon’s sons are well worth meeting and, according to Chinese mythology, the Snake is only one of the the ‘nine sons of the dragon’, which are traditionally used… Read more »

Sunlight glistening, beckons me to open. A green patch of grass, a perfect place to stretch and . I bask. Eyes bright and observing, fierce and compelling in their jewel-like shimmering. Few can determine what depths they contain. I absorb. Sweet dwelling, a sanctuary of inspiration and comfort. Everything in its place, undisturbed by any but a wild cat. I relax. Workplace a necessity, connections with new entities. Always friendly and helpful, yet completely contained emotions. I perform. Argument erupts, complaints of not feeling enough. I’m a Cancerian Horse. A few times people in my life people have described me as a living contradiction. Cancer = homebody. Horse I interpret as wanting freedom and space. To be honest I barely have the concentration to sit here and keep writing this (I should go water the garden, grab a drink, call someone) plus my “n” key is broken (spilt water over my laptop) so every time I use it I am pasting it in. I read somewhere that back in the days of old, a Chinese family would dread a female being born in the year… Read more »

😯 I’m a Gemini (Metal) Monkey! or perhaps known more of as being a Bonobo from my peeps, definitely not a bad thing seeing as Bonobo communities are peace-loving and mostly egalitarian. A prankster? Well that depends, timing is everything & mostly the moment between thinking of a great prank & executing is fleeting. Curious? Yes, insatiably curious &… coincidentally a massive observer of people. Curiosity & problem solving seem to be my theme so far this year, maybe I can mix in some more pranks, if I must! 😆 *swings of into the sunset… while looking to see where… Read more »

There is a monkey in my life…the simian remains a powerful symbol for me, despite being afraid of them as a child. There is a strange power to the monkey–the power to unsettle, and to question–our human-ness, our morals, our evolution. The monkey in my life is the (possible) pen-name of the author Saki (real name, Hector Hugh Monroe). Patron of all tricksters. He could also take his name from the cup-bearer in the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, but I go with the monkey theory, due to the references to a “South American Primate” in a particular story. Total dragon. Which is exactly what a dragon would say. But my year of dragons was (mostly) born in ’88 – which is the luckiest year of any century, with all the 8s. And I feel pretty good about my charts all fitting together in my bifurcated astro world – half Chinese (from my mama), half American-quasi-gypsy-Romanian wide open southwest USA spaces (papa) – my Aries sun feels super dragonic (I look at the Chinese zodiac as informally fitting the elemental divide of Western astro, with the dragon/monkey/rat agreement trio roughly fitting aries/leo/sag), and gets its smart and ruthless dragon… Read more »

I have studied both Chinese and Western astrology as hobbies. I am a quadruple Capricorn (rising, sun, merc and mars) and also a “Fire Dragon” year. I like how the Chinese astrology can sync up with Western according to the month. For example, Dragon relates to Aries. Monkey relates to Leo. I think it would be an interesting study to see if the Western astro chart has commonalities with the Chinese one. I have a fair balance of fire in my chart (south node in Aries, Saturn in Leo). The Chinese astro “chart” is actually called the “Ba Zi” or… Read more »

I’m a Black Water Dog… who just romantically met another Black Water Dog. Heh. These past few years have been tricky, esp this past year of the Sheep/Goat. During college, I spent a majority of my time with an intense group of fire snakes. We were always pushing boundaries, intellectualizing life, and seeking out the next big thing on our terms. Upon graduation, I moved in with two fantastically delightful metal monkeys, one a Libra with a Pisces moon and the other a solar Cap. I’m glad for this prompt, because I’ve been meaning to clarify what type of goat I am for a while now. And by the way, is this sign a goat? a sheep? a ram? Before I really got into astro (via Mystic), I was always confused about why the Capricorn (sun) only kinda sounded like me. Hard-working, pragmatic, stubborn & patient if it means results… yes. My Chinese zodiac sign is Wood Ox. Chinese New Year has so many fun associations in my world. The reason the Vietnamese have a cat in place of a rabbit is coz apparently the pronunciation of the word rabbit in Chinese sounds like the word for cat in Vietnamese – so i’ve been told.

The thing I relate to most about being a dragon is that the dragon is said to be the luckiest of the animals.
I definitely think of myself as lucky. I also have Saggo Rising, and that is another sign that is associated with good luck.

Dragons are supposed to be bossy, extroverted, opinionated, etc– which is NOT me–but they also say that being Wooden tones down some of that vibe.
