How Not To Go Mental During Mercury Retrograde

Filed in ASTROLOGY

Norman Parkinson

Mercury Retrograde in Libra is like any Mercury Retrograde (don’t sign contracts or buy big-deal tech items etc) but it mainly influences partnerships. In an optimal scenario, the Mercury Retrograde in Libra would be an elegant re-balancing act. Insights would gently occur to us at yoga. Or whilst wafting down the citrus-scented clean pavements en route to some desirable appointment. As Libra is the sign of relationships, any jagged edges would be smoothed over and realigned whilst we slept.

But it’s stranger than that. Mercury Retro in Libra has been going back and forward in quincunx (tricky aspect with an edge of fate) to shamanic Neptune. And the last blast of that is not till late October, even though Mercury goes Direct in a week.

Mercury in bizarre aspect to Neptune can = oceanic undercurrents of feeling. Some are more like toxic underground streams. Ancient angst – especially around looks, love & once upon a time legal entanglements feels contemporary. Think also snark. It can even manifest as lapses in judgment & a total vague out of your usual zingy brain process.

Indecision vies with flashes of pure genius/intuition. The lack of respect from certain elements becomes stark, ravingly apparent. It’s the end of the North Node in Libra/South Node in Aries vibe that began in Feb 2014.  Notice the subtle shift of focus.

If you think YOU are finding this annoying, imagine how it would be just meandering through without even knowing Mercury was Retrograde.   See your Horoscopes for more targeted-to-you thoughts but in short, if you’re on the edge of a commitment during Mercury Retrograde in Libra, it’s better to pull back. For now. Avoid dud decisions and that fabulous Libra equilibrium becomes ever more attainable.

Meditate on the true meaning of composure…to compose yourself.

Composure. God knows I could use some of that right now. I have a pileup in my 12th house right now, including Mercury. I’m basically in psycho bitch mode. Lilith is in my 12th too, I believe. Libra ascendant. I’m hoping I feel a bit better when the sun moves into my 1st. I am trying to keep up with “mini retreats” in my home, i.e. binaural beats and oracle cards and mediation and witchy ness for some relief. But god I am really unbearable right now, I’m annoying even myself.

That sounds rough. I recommend baths with essential oils! My favorite at the mo is Jasmine, Sandalwood, Orange and Lemon. Movement always helps me too. There’s something about basketball – pounding that ball into the pavement and throwing it into the hoop – that is so satisfying to my frustrating moments.

Yess I shall take a bath tonight! Good call. Also with the exercise, I don’t normally “exercise” per set (have an active lifestyle), but today I went on a walk with many steep inclines to get some of the bad vibes out. It felt amazing and I think I’ll do it tomorrow, too!

Re:Lilith, had some interesting insights about her, one thing in particular was her having a cave out in the wild, a place of retreat. A rest from snapping and snarling, but those feelings are still reverberating. That’s how having her in the 12th feels.

ElectroMM Member
Electro

I have Lilith conjunct Mars, so I get it. In Bitchcraft, this aspect has a pic of Sigourney Weaver in Aliens. Lol.

I don’t exercise either, I’m just active. There’s something about pounding my feet or a basketball into the earth that does it for me. Maybe it’s my Sag moon hooves. Stompalicious!

You know, that makes a lot of sense re: Sags + basketball. I know a NN Sag and Sag Sun who just LOVE basketball! That must be it… stomping the hooves!

Hey AKApluto and leogroover. Van fan here too: 1987 VW Joker – never was a van named more aptly.

I’ve learnt to look at my van as a personified (“vanosified”) trickster – and what is Merc Retro but the Trickster?

Once you choose to go with the Trickster – GO with the Trickster – it always comes good in the end. If decision making becomes impossible (i understand this – Libra rising here) – flip a coin. In other words, throw yourself fully into the hands of Mercury and enjoy the trip AKApluto!

First time mercury retrgrade has legit begun to destroy my body, fallen three time on my bike BUT luckily finished a major art project up with very few hiccups. Now mecury goes out of retro right before my artist reception for the exhibition.

I’m Mercury ruled, this Rx is happening in my Mercury ruled 4th house and this retro dance is activating my natal T-square every time he conjuncts my Uranus. Jupiter is making a trine to my 11th house Toro stellium- where my natal Mercury sits. At least, the trine gave me faith, my words felt pure. More important was the realization that my intention behind the words is what counts to me, for I can’t control other people’s interpretations. Jupiter conjoined my 3rd house Virgo SN as well during this period, and I think all these transits fit this Mercury Rx… Read more »

Would you say that it makes it extra difficult for a Cancerian male to have an innate distrust of his mother (because she brought so much chaos and pain into your young life, and because traditionally Cancerian men have a very close connection to their mothers)?
So some internal conflict about the ideal feminine versus the real? I dunno, I really don’t wish to press on yr sensitivities, it just occurred to me while reading above

Me too Powderfinger – one of the joys (?) of being Kataka. Not sure if my Gemini rising amplifies that or mitigates it? (I am behind in my Astro Hacks tutorials!!) But the reverse is also true, from thinking all is sh**e to being profoundly thankful and uplifted despite the merde. All it takes is a blast of The Pretenders or the Jam – or just stopping to reflect. I try to remember that “this too shall pass” and hang on – or try to let go – ha ha ha!

I’m going back to the top of this post as the reply column was getting ridiculously narrow! Yes – it is much easier to see what needs to be done than to actually do it. My Dad had bad alcohol issues during my early teens, which to his credit, he overcame and the family got back together. However, it must have planted in me a fear of abandonment that seems to creep into my relationships – or I am still recreating it or being attracted to men who will trigger this anxiety in me or i just play it out… Read more »

I am done with counsellors on it. My synapses were set then under the reign of terror (1964-1975). My bros n all report the same; we are rarely trumped in stories of abuse. We actually lived “The Four Yorkshiremen” of Monty Python fame. Counsellors and psychologists have been visited on many times. They have hepled moderately. Its probably the reason l find needing a partner so important from a psychological aspect important. Plus my astro screams it. Mercury Rx has been brutal, but it’s been necessary brutal – if that makes sense. The Eclipse in Virgo set off a chain of events that started with Saturn slipping into Scorpio. My partner of 13 years – we’ve spent the last three weeks going over our toxic relationship (a relationship that on the outside looked fine but was pretty much a silent seething pit of despair for both of us!) It’s been relentless and it’s come with flashes of pure insight and authenticity, and then it backward slides into the past, into jealousy, into circular thoughts without end (for… Read more »

Mercury retrograde hasn’t been that bad to me actually, it’s in the 4th house. I have always had pretty colorful dreams, but lately I’ve been dreaming even more vividly. I had a dream about bees last night. They were following me but none of them stung me. I also found a dead bee and picked it up. Does anyone have any idea what that means?

AKAPlutoMM Member

Bee Virgin. Look out! So… Don’t worry about things which never happened and still aren’t happening–except bees dying, which is happening, and worrisome. Maybe it’s worse than you thought! Just kidding at least you haven’t been stung… yet. In all seriousness, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to be stung by a bee. There are medicinal properties in the venom. Also, I think your dream was auspicious and complicated, if we’re linking it to 4th house Mercury rx I would say there’s some inner tension about this great big home earth of ours being bombarded with toxic chemicals and razed… Read more »

My dream analysis is pretty straightfoward. Take every moment of the dream and stare into soace while thinking of how it makes you feel. The meaning of the symbolism usually follows. If you are slightly afraid of bees and concerned about being stung, but otherwise ok with them, this could be a symbol of feeling more protected and trusting where you usually would feel fear (still feeling some concern, but seeing that it’s ok). Picking up the dead bee seems like you are in a phase where you are gently facing your fears/mistrust, but still in the phase where the… Read more »

Thank you for the reply! This was a great analysis. I have Pluto/Asc and a square from Saturn to the Asc so I usually approach things very cautiously. It’s not so much a specific situation as it is a general experience. I tend to have trouble just being myself- so I often come across as aloof, which creates a lot of internal tension. Maybe this is a sign to open up more..

Yup, the world is batfish crazy but I am a slick rock-pilot who–ohhh never mind, I’m going to go to sleep and smooth that edge over there!–ohhh wait I’m over the edge and I threw away all my money… Darn lapses of judgment. “It seemed like seeing clearly simply was not an option.”

Exactly my situation. It’s a dizzy little dance into madness…or ascension?

I have no idea…I just came to and I’m in my van trying to drive to California…sitting broken down on the side of the road. I’m not speaking figuratively!

Kara

Still, isn’t it nice to be conscious again? I’m glad I snapped out of it…. I’ve snapped out of it, right? Really glad Mercury went rx actually, it was the quincunx dammit…

California is niiiice. Do you still think it might be nice? I think you’re good. My opinion of course–the fine line between madness and ascension is zig-zagging between going within and seeking without. Go within… especially when that is almost your only option until help arrives. It’s a great big world in (t)here..
