Style Your Ascendant: Libra Rising

Filed in Zodiac Fashion

Kate Middleton

How to dress if you are Libra Rising?

It is an astrological fact that you ideally look like your ascendant. A.k.a. your rising sign. Unsure of your Rising Sign? Get an Astral DNA for my unique, non-cliche and supportive take on your whole natal birth chart.

So if you are – say – a stealth Scorpio with Leo Rising, it’s auspicious to LOOK Leo. Even if your Scorpionic psyche shrivels at the mere thought of big hair, bling and a 20-meter radius ostentatious entitlement scent from a designer/model/celebrity you personally feel a psychological affinity with.

Libra Rising is the Ascendant of Beauty. Yes, Taurus Rising people are also ruled by Venus but here, expressed through Air, the Venusian vibe is (arguably) even more lucid and direct.

Stardust Swirls When They Flip Their Hair

Libra Rising people have an innate advantage in the symmetry stakes. They look eerily good in anything iridescent. Birds above swerve to avoid shitting on the heads of Libra Ascendants. Stardust swirls when they flip their hair.

Exhibit One, above Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge and mother of Windsors.

When it comes to styling Libra Rising people, they don’t need that much.  Exhibit Two: Venus Williams, athlete, self-proclaimed “biggest adult supporter of Hello Kitty” and quipper of such Libra-esque quotes as “I guess aside from tennis, fashion is my main art form.”

But seriously, a la the odalisques of the olden days, drape this lot in a bit of chiffon and they look damn good.

Venus Williams

Yes, you know you are dealing with a bona fide Libra Rising, when they look like they could be modeled off a statue in a temple.

Profile is BIG with them.  Voila, Lee Miller, the Taurus Surrealist Photographer turned war journalist.

Man Ray (1890–1976); Solarized Portrait of Lee Miller, c. 1930; Gelatin silver print; 9 1/2 x 7 3/8 in. (24.3 x 18.8 cm); The Penrose Collection, Sussex, England; © 2011 Man Ray Trust/Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York/ADAGP, Paris/Courtesy of The Penrose Collection. All rights reserved.

Libra Rising boys tend toward being over the top cute and flirtatious. It’s almost like they carry a Venusian vibe in their aura. Millennial It-Boys Brooklyn Beckham and Harry Styles are BOTH Libra Rising.

Harry Styles and Brooklyn Beckham

Resting Petulance Face

But Libra Rising People can look louche and petulant if they are not careful. Their natural cornucopia of desirable secondary sexual attributes and the surfeit of attention they attract can occasionally congeal.

Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet (seen here in the Titanic era) are both Libra Rising. He is a solar Scorpio – she is like an octo-Libra or something.

Libra Rising Leo and Kate

Their Venusian sexy vibe is too much to withstand the addition of lingerie type clothes. They don’t need it. And when Libra Rising peeps layer on the make-up (as is their instinct) it can look drag very quickly. They can carry off intense florientals and big flower fragrances. Having a signature scent is an aspect of their self-assurance strategy.

Interestingly, two our of best known womanizing but idealistic and beloved Presidential figures have been Libra Rising: Both John F Kennedy AND Bill Clinton.  Monica Lewinsky is, like Clinton, a Leo with Libra Rising.

Seated in plane, John F. Kennedy, the President-elect, is reading draft of speech on Jan. 18, 1961 which he will use at his inauguration, as his plane carried him from New York City to Washington, D.C. He and his wife began final round of festivities before he is sworn in as 35th President of the United States. (AP Photo)

Note again the beautiful Libra Rising profile on President Kennedy.

Libra Rising People Look Iconic, Even If Unknown

In some ways, the excess and exaggerated formality of the Eighties suited Libra Rising peeps completely. It was an echo of the 40s and favored posing. If anyone can wear clashing textures/patterns, it IS Libra Rising – their innate symmetry makes it look well balanced. Eg: Paloma Picasso.  In fact, you could argue that it is a visual reflection of their inner ambivalence or indecision. Same goes with BIG jewelry.  It can’t overwhelm them.

Paloma Picasso

Sentimentalists at heart, they like their outfits to evoke emotion. It’s not the AWE of pure raw Glamor as appreciated by Leo Rising nor even the weird “WOW-what-is-that?” costume dress up of a Sagittarius Rising but more Britney Spears before the Kevin Federline years.

They are like Rent-An-Icon, even if unknown.  People wonder who the fuq they are. It’s not just occasions. Even in deshabille, they project Venusian Awesome. This is Lynda Carter aka the original Wonder Woman in a dressing gown.

Lynda Carter

Symmetry + Scent Genius

We all have however many bones it is in our face but the ones propping up the Libra Rising faces just seemed to have been designed by a Pilates instructor.   And you can put them in whatever you want, that Venusian charm just transmits. Eg; Capricorn-Libra Rising Cary Grant in a ladies dressing gown; he wears it like other guys wear tailored tuxes.

Cary Grant 1

Libra Rising guys specialize in a spot of gender-bending. They’re also blessed with the most amazing Cupid’s Bow lips.

Voila Rupert Everett, Javier Bardem and Vince Vaughn – ALL Libra Rising gents.

Javier Bardem

Libra Rising People can usually dance and even if they can’t, everyone pretends that they can.

Jean Claude Van Damme

Jean Claude Van Damme is quintessential Libra Rising male.

Jean Claude Van Damme 2

So wear clashing patterns/big jewels because you can pull it off, appreciate your goddess-given symmetry and accentuate your cupid’s bow…is there ANY problem with Libra Rising and styling?

Well, yes actually. Libra Rising can go way over the top: they have excessive tastes and usually no shortage of people flocking to satisfy such tastes. Especially when younger. Eg; Gia Carangi.

Chris Von Wangenheim

A life in which aesthetics and sensual highs + the money to achieve such matter SO much can be ungrounded. Exhibit A: Anna Nicole Smith, a classic Libra Rising bombshell in appearance, before the drugs and the mania got to her.

Anna Nicole Smith

But cheer up, if you are not a doomed Playmate type Libra Rising, your Ascendant means you can do pink and wear unicorns or anything really.  Nobody will ever think you are vulgar. And even if they do, they’ll still be nice to your face. Because you’re Libra Rising and people seek your approval, whether they want to or not.

The designer Jean Paul Gaultier is Libra rising – voila one of his slinky creations.

Jean Paul Gaultier

Katy Perry is Libra Rising:

So is Dwayne Johnson – the Rock. When he is not playing a machismo-leaking Alpha Dude, he lurks around in t-shirts like this:

Holy fuq, all this time I have been dressing like a Libra rising and I am Scorp rising! No wonder I have never really felt like myself…. I wait with bated breath for the Scorp instalment in this series! Whoa time to go purge my wardrobe!

The symmetry, lips and profile are spot on. I’m psychotic about skin care because anything but the lightest m/u gives me lion king on B’way face (save for saturated lips). And I’m always surprised when I ‘give up on’ dressing myself (pajama bottoms a sweater and Toms to lunch, flip-flops at 1% watering holes) that Im not called out by some concerned stranger.

On the vulnerability of people pleasing- This is powerful and she’s the treachery of only pleasing others/conforming at the expense of feeding our own awesome-authentic souls. Bigger Libra question- how “attractive” peeps earn more $$$$ and are seen as more competent. Stretching our ideals of beauty is crucial for equity/appreciation equal opp. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WWTRwj9t-vU I’m not Libra Rising- I’m Scorp Asc but have a Libra stellium so this discussion resonated. First time poster here, and newly obsessed with astrology! Just trying to learn how all of these things fit together, but this post was spot on for me as an Aqua sun, Libra rising, Toro moon. I love silk (any kind! robes! shirts! dresses!), jewelry (fine jewelry (Taurus moon?) mixed with things like coffee bean necklaces and olivewood bracelets from my travels (Aqua?), makeup as an art form, etc. I only wear iridescents on my nails, though. And never pink, because that’s what all the other little girls wore growing up and I had to be different (I think I… Read more »

This was fun to read, I’ve really enjoyed all the Style Your Ascendant posts. I used to be way more into maintaining my appearance prior to having children. These days I do minimal makeup and fairly basic dress, but doing so helps elevate my mood and to help me feel like an actual human. I like makeup for helping me to look more awake than I feel, lol. Mascara + concealer + blush= my dream team. I still check myself out in shiny surfaces though, lol. Anyway, I’m trying to remember to take better care of myself, get the scales… Read more »

Enjoyed and laughed at this – very funny. Libra Rising here. I don’t do make-up – apart from the eyes and then, rarely. I don’t do pink or irridescent colours – tho yes, they do actually look ok on me, lol, who knew? And I only know this becoz my 9 yr old, libra rising god-daughter, likes to dress me up in princessy type costumes just to see me squirm. I would say that Cary Grant epitomises the smooth Libra Rising male, and Javier Bardem the sexiest. I also married a Libra Rising. I love their combo of super machoness… Read more »

i do thematic dressing too! and used to dress like a man a lot, but maybe we blame grunge for that, lol. I went through a stage a few years back where I would dress in costume for work, depending on the theme being treated at the time. dress is text and all that 🙂 Can’t see any explanations in the chart for it.

I don’t feel like I’m a real Libra rising. Maybe it’s my Cap Sun and Cap Moon, but I am not symmetric or anything much to look at. However, pink strangely doesn’t really look pink on me. It seems to suit me as people say so. My only physical aspect that I feel confident about are my legs. Got them from my Sagitariian nan. Javier. Yes. I’ll have him thanks.

as a Triple Virgo with a Libra Rising male— this has been long awaited and on the spot. Cupid Bow lips— man, I thought that was a weird thing of mine, but its awesome that Libra Risings often have that.

Yes, I can bring people to the dance floor with my weird dancing. And love karaoke.

On point with the everything! 😀

Hmmm!!! I’m a libra rising. Mine is exact trine Venus in Sag- I’m like ultra sag too, 5 planets.

Definitely no make-up here. Not even at my wedding! I did make my husband and I give up drink for a week or two before tho and juiced twice a day instead so our skin looked pretty glow-y.

I don’t generally consider myself beautiful but I do have the Cupid-bow lips and I passed them on to both my children.

Definitely cannot dance. Cannot do karaoke.

Oh something I have noticed about Librans is very well manicured hands!!

Love it! Been waiting for this one. I love the iridescent bit and the big jewelry part. Have always been afraid of big jewelry and never even thought about iridescent color. Can’t wait to try it out! (although I do get the too much/drag queen point… that is tricky sometimes). This past year have been wearing less eye makeup and more red lipstick. Loving it. Thanks Mystic!

Been waiting for this one too as I am airy fairy LIbra in the east. I was expecting a deluge of Gyneth pics as she embodies ultimate libran look as i think ….kinda minimalist.
I look more like a drag queen with biceps and all when I am with makeup for sure, dancer, yes. But no talk of elves and waifs?!
Guess there is a laid-back quality to LIbrans like the Rock, but ever so strategic without looking like they try too hard. Always associated LIbra rising with simple elegance. Maybe more a virgoan quality….?

The Rock!! Enough Said!! Libra rising girl here… but man oh man.. I do not represent those examples above. I NEVER think of myself as able to fit into anything properly. I have a Moon in Leo too!! I don’t know.. I wish I could grasp that internal impression. Not an arrogant impression just happy to see myself beautiful in photos! It’s stinks being an actor and I think I look AWFUL in photos!! Wow that whole post described a friend of mine to a T! I had to run her deets and found out she has her sun and four other planets in Libra (pluto, uranus, neptune, mercury). Can’t figure out her rising sign though. How do you do that when you don’t know the time of birth? I just need confirmation, ok? (how stalky do I sound?) She has always seemed like the uber-Libra to me- perfect features (and profile), dances professionally, looks great ALL THE TIME, people fawn over her, finds it super-hard to make decisions, has a beautiful home, etc… Read more »

Ha! Stalker professional here to help. You can’t find out a rising sign without specific birth deets, but you can play around with the time until it seems right. I have done this with some family members’ charts and it’s a little frustrating but sometimes it seems like I may have guessed right.

Lots of haters on this post. And IRL. What I find funny are the women who say they are feminists or against societal expectations of beauty while putting down other women. Someone is always left out. Maybe women don’t wear makeup because they “have to” – maybe they use it as a form of expression. Maybe a woman is not completely vapid simply because she wears pink. That being said, I think it makes perfect sense that MM focused on beauty when it comes to Libra rising…I thought Libras were notoriously Venusian and obsessed with beauty. Also to be fair,… Read more »

Yes, makeup is an art form! Been around since ancient times, used in rituals, used in cosmetic tradition, used as a form of expression…and not everyone is good at it. I’ve always seen it as a form of expression. Most of the subcultures I hang around have always used makeup in very creative ways. One of the cousins I am closest to is a successful Drag Queen in Brooklyn now, and whenever he paints his face, it’s art to me! One thing that seems to be consistent is: women who wear makeup could not care less if other women want… Read more »

My good libra rising friend is always talking about women being jealous of her. I thought she was full of it when I first met her but sure enough I realized she was telling the truth. Also, she has extreme good luck and is very optimistic. She bounces back and always tries to do better. Maybe that is part of the allure of a libra rising? My four year old also bounces back from a full-on sadfest very quickly. Perhaps that good nature and good luck equates into radiating it externally.

also, i think that the venus-saturn square is manifesting in a sort-of collective self-reflection. all sorts of ism’s and unconscious muck coming up and we’re seeing ourselves in the cold hard light of day (or at least i hope we are, feels that way), so deconstructing the jealousy and the whole set of cultural beauty expectations that the focus on “pretty” brings up feels relevant and healing. 🙂

Geez, I hope the cultural beauty expectations get toned down a bit. It’s all too expensive and time-consuming. Sure it can be fun sometimes but c’mon. I shocked a co-worker by telling them I don’t shave when it’s cold out, so from like November to April. What’s the point?
