Strong Mars = Sharp Instincts

Filed in Inspiration, Mars

Martha Rich

“‘Do you know what the biggest difference is between talent and gut instinct?’
‘I have no idea.’
‘You can have tons of talent, but it won’t necessarily keep you fed. If you have sharp instincts, though, you’ll never go hungry.’”
— Haruki Murakami, 1Q84

The Moon may be intuition – the soft inner voice that prompts a more Yin awareness and Neptune is the pure potent true-born psychic, the indicator of clairaudience, clairvoyancy and so on.

A Mercury with influence from Aquarius/Uranus is super-fast processing and high order thinking that seems telepathic but is just a kind of differently wired brain.

But for sharp instincts – look to your Mars.  The stronger the Mars, the sharper those basic instincts, especially if it is enhanced by Uncle Pluto.

Thoughts?

Mars in the 9th House. In Aries. Conj. Venus and Lilith. Trine Leo Asc and Sag Uranus. Square Neptune. I definitely do have strong instincts, and at best, they can get enhanced by some semi-psychic something, but often, it’s more like a “I should have listened to my gut!” l’esprit d’escaliers kind of thing….

Mars conjunct Pluto in Virgo in 12th house opposing my Chiron and squaring my Gemini Moon, venus and mercury conjunction (all 3 within 4 degrees) in 9th. I know I have sharp instints but I don’t utilize them. I allow my mind to rationalize everything and having a diplomatic Librar ascendant means I end up ignoring my gut in order to be polite and not hurt the other person. This bullshit has got to stop.

Mars in Pisces conjunct MC, opposite Pluto in Virgo conjunct the IC….. I’d say pretty potent! I don’t trust my instincts enough, though. I guess when push comes to shove I do, where there is a need for quick thinking or if there is an immediate danger or just an immediate need for anything, I can assess the situation quickly… but I’ve also given away my power a lot in my life so I don’t trust MYSELF, not just my instincts…. I have Mercury in Aqua, so that should be sharp, but it’s square to Neptune. Also, right now I… Read more »

This is the first year I’ve been able to see mars as my peaceful warrior. I had a lot of mistaken Aries shame from early on. The 8th house mysteries were deep so I banged my head in the dark rather than purposefully butting my horns into things, consciously. Now, after all that darkness, while watching mars go through zap zone, then finally when he was in Pisces, I’ve learned about his relentless action in a non warlike way. Having him in the fifth house, Aquarius was a mystery in itself, but now I see he’s a lover not a… Read more »

Mars is in Sagittarius and in my seventh house. So I’m inclined to always be looking for the exit, but I still work my butt off. My Mars squares Uranus and trines Jupiter, which might explain why I’m a bit odd and not particularly concerned about it.

Mars in Pisces within 10 degrees from my Pisces sun, both in the 8th house. On top of that Aries moon, Pluto in libra. Have a history of going against my instincts for the purpose of being nice and giving people a chance (with disastrous results). Lesson learned eventually, but still way more decisive than your stereotypical fish. Anyone else with a similar chart?

I am learning to live with what I am coming to know loosely as my two instincts: my Piscean otherworld psychic vibe which is off the scale atm with Neptune on my Pisces stellium; and my grand earth trine/s featuring Pluto/Uranus/Mars in Virgo/Cap moon-Lilith-Juno-Eros et al and Jupiter in Taurus. The latter I would describe as my ‘gut instinct’. If I pay attention and treat my body well I do actually feel it. The Neptunian psychic vibe is a kind of low-level radio static. The Neptunian incoming is about other people/future events, whereas the earth ‘gut’ instinct is more about… Read more »

I’m an Aries Rising with Mars (conjunct Moon) in Leo. Mars trines my ascendant, but it also makes a major aspect to almost every other planet in my chart, so yeah – I think my Mars is pretty strong. As for basic instincts? I think it presents as being extremely resourceful. Very “ends justify the means” kind of mentality. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. I honestly think a lot of trust on primal instinct is way beyond astro and much more gender training. I think alot of these blogs on this site are written by a Pisces, or someone with a strong Neptune influence, because they seldom make sense and are barely broken down and elaborated by example…for instance your Virgo (viggo) rising post that just shows a pic of some guy…like whats the point? Lol I wish I owned this site it actually inspires me to start my own, with more detail.

Isis
Isis

This site is written by one person. Honestly! I should like to see you write the amount of content that Mystic does consistently – to be brief requires greater effort than a lot of blather. Mystic doesn’t spoon feed info, no, I think she assumes a certain amount intelligence in her readers.
And, she is an artist in a way, preferring to gesture towards understanding than bludgeon you with her opinion. I guess that it might take some effort to understand the site, but imho that is what makes it tantalising and sophisticated. And Neptunian.

Cosmic Phoenix
Cosmic Phoenix

Exactly, Sphinx. My true understanding of astro increased astronomically (heehee) when I found this site. You have to look at your own chart and figure out how it affects you. Anyone can do an Internet search on an aspect and just take what that person says verbatim.

The art is also stellar. So varied, so apt. I love it all. I always wish I comment on the pics in the horoscopes. I love them. Like the one up now with the red and blue wings and intense stare. Love.

Implied arrogance in ya post. “Written by a Pisces”- huh – obviously not by a ‘better’ sign.

My Japanese Literature professor called Murakami “the voice of banality.” That quote is a perfect example. However, it is probably mistranslated. He is talking about “hara.’ Literally that is “gut” but it’s not gut instinct. He is talking about Haragei.

Interesting Charles. The Aboriginal shaman’s apparently use that location of the hara point in their tradition too.
I frequently do a little exercise where I push out energy from the Hara point. It took a while to feel it as a tangible spot. But maybe gut instinct is a part of the Hara point to an extent in practicality?

That might work for Murakami. I checked his chart on Astro.com, he has Mercury opposite Pluto. Of course he writes about being stuck at the bottom of a dark pit.

But I would say that hara is more solar. It is your solar plexus, after all. It’s more about projecting energy.

Mars conjunct South Node and Pluto in Scorpio in the 1st house.

mars in toro, opposite pluto in scorp. i dooo have strong instincts, but am often too indolent to act on them. especially when those instincts are trying to kick my ass towards big change, or if they require i structure something. i can listen to them, understand them…a lot of the time it’s everything but DO them. mars is also in a grand earth trine with mercury and retro saturn. uh, and it squares my leo sun. sigh. gotta shake off that ego, mang. i actually think it’s in a really good place, i just need to get a grip.

Mars in Taurus in my 12th house stellium. When I excused away my instincts, hell ensues. When I trust, all next levels.

yep, same with 12th House moon, neptune and Lilith.
Ignore dreams and gut feeling/ intuition at own risk.

My Mars is conjunct lilith in the 8th, which I believe dignifies it. It’s in gemini though, which is classic scattered energy. I think absolutely everything is interesting and I want to do and try everything. Well, ya know, to an extent.

As far as intuition goes, I feel like it is getting stronger as I age and figure myself/life out. Unfortunately I kind of tuned out my instincts as a survival mechanism. There are only so many times a kid can be told they are wrong then they start to believe it and twist themselves accordingly.

Hey we’re twins! Did not intend that as a Gemini pun…

Purrrfect. I love your gravatar. I have a friend whose Mars is on my sun and I love the energy. Must be nice to have that natally. My sun has two squares to it, which is not so fun.

Mars conjunct NN/Sun in 8th house Gemini, trine Pluto/Saturn/AC.

My instincts are scary good, emphasis on scary. But like Circe Baby I let my Libra AC lead me to second guess everything. Constant battle.

Centaurus

Mars in the 8th in Cap. Trine Saturn 10th Pisces Trine Neptune 6th Scorp Trine Asc Toro My instincts are well honed. That’s not to say I’m always right of course but I can pick up things that are not yet ready to be revealed but they’re revealed enough to me and mostly I’m on the money. I play the whole thing pretty low key, don’t share findings very often and use the advance notice on the play for navigational purposes. It’s a bit of a map and sometimes the tangible evidence is quite some ways out into the future… Read more »

My bad.. the 6th is mostly Scorp but Neptune tips into the 7th. The other thing I think is really quite interesting now that I consider it is that my Asc sits on the cusp of the 1st and 12th which I think makes sense with my ability to often times see what is hidden or in between spaces.

I have Mars @ 9 Scorp, & Pluto @ 8 Libra. Looks like an upside down picnic table on astro dot com. What’s it mean?

i believe that’s semi-sextile (30deg apart, give or take an extra 1-2degrees) — a minor aspect. Don’t know too much beyond that but worth looking into for some extra nuance!

Is my Mars strong? I don’t think so…I have an Aries sun but my Mars is in Aquairus in the 12TH HOUSE…

That damn 12th house I am reading up on a lot of content to get an understanding but I still don’t know how it plays out in my life, kinda typical for a 12th house theme lol

Does anyone else have this placement, say I!!

rachel

I have Mars in the 12th but in Aries and making a big honking fire trine with my Saturn-Uranus conjunction in Sagg and conjunct my north node in Aries. It’s a strong placement for me, definitely, but the 12th house part makes it…confusing. Conflicting. People are often shocked by how opinionated and blunt I am once they get to know me because I am a stereotypical 12th house observer person and also because I will put on a mask of least resistance when dealing with matters that are unimportant. I feel like I could run an empire/take over the world… Read more »

Lest I sound like a complete sociopath I should also add that it is my opinion that the 12th house placements I have actually make me very good with people in some settings, always one-on-one and when discussing things that are more intimate than the average American/person is comfortable with. If I ever am CEO my company would certainly be an interesting place to work, lol

I have mars 12th retrograde in Gemini… Definitely not the best instincts. Isuck at reading people didn’t know it was a 12house thing.. Not like my sun in saggitarrius can help me a lot :p

Hell Yeah. Give a one on one with someone I genuinely like over a crowded room any day of the week!
12th House moon, neptune and Lilith.
I’d rather be alone than in a noisy crowd.
I have enough noise in my head already! and Rache you NEVER sound even vaguely sociopathic.

you don’t sound psychopathic! I think you’re being really clear about your strengths and weaknesses, even tho weakenesses is the wrong word. I’ve often wished I could exist in some mobile ideas-generating hub where I am equipped with an army of executors who can make it all happen…Got Ideas. Need Team.

I have a 12th house moon in Aquarius. It’s never ending trying to be aware of any planet in the 12th.

My 12th house moon/Neptune in Scorpio conjunct my Scorp asc likes being alone, too. Being in rooms full of people is like drowning in an ocean of too many hidden/ unspoken undercurrents of other people’s issues. That doesn’t mean I’m not studying them though.

Fascinating.

My mars in Libra means I often second guess my instincts. Like, non stop.

But Mars-Pluto conjunct means those instincts are intense.

I have same situation. I think mars in Libra is just weaksauce yet i am fierce.

I agree, Mars in Libra is annoying to live with, would trade it for a Mars in Virgo any day! I’d be unstoppable!

Same. I’m teaching myself to not second guess because every time I do something pretty awful happens. I recommend reading the Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker, it’s a little intense but what he writes about instinct and gut feelings is essential.
