Flying Dreams Are Magic

Remedios Varo

Flying dreams are SO magic. I don’t know if it is the Supernatural Mushroom powder or Neptune trining my Midheaven but i am having heaps of them lately.   If there was a way I could set my brain to “every night flying dreams” I would.

What’s amazing about flying dreams is how natural they feel – right down to the practicality of trying to swoop into land on something correctly.

Jung said they were all about the desire to break free of limitations and Freud (so Taurus) said flying dreams had to do with repressed sexuality but then again, he said about everything. They could be a an out-of-body experience, something alt-dimensional, i mean – why not?

Like deja-vu, they can serve as some weird and inexplicable bit of magic that serves to support and comfort us through hyper-flux and transition. A reminder that we have “wings” – albeit metaphorical – and may not be so limited or weighed down as we thought.

Thoughts?

Used to fly in my dreams all the time as a kid. I loved those dreams.

About a decade ago, I had another one, but it was different- I had to bounce and put a lot of effort into getting off the ground.

I no longer have those dreams now.

I do remember the one time I ever had a lucid dream, the first thing I did was make myself fly. So liberating. So free!

That’s what I did too. I found myself somehow lucid dreaming and then I was flying. And there was a city below and I was jumping off skyscrapers and diving straight down only to bounce back up. Honestly it freaked me out – that I was controlling my dream so much – that I woke right up.

The closest I’ve come to flying in other dreams was more like floating a bit upwards like a balloon. Not sure that ‘floating’ counts as flying, ha.

I fly a lot in my dreams. Sometimes just sneaking a float in the sky or the room trying not to be too noticeable :D. Other times I teach others to fly – just stand open into the wind and let go haha.

I have had waking moments absolutely convinced that I CAN fly. Yep, they feel so real to me too.

I had a flying dream for the first time in my life just a couple of nights ago.
In the dream i fell like i was running from something through a dusty open field at night.
Then i started falling and attempted to stay up in the air, and suddenly I realised I could control the flight and started going up and speeding lol It was so nice because it wasn’t dark and the stars were visible
I woke up happy and with a sense of accomplishment ???? it was somehow comforting

Love this. Slept deeply for the first time in days- flying dolphins! I dreamt I was driving in the dark quite maniacally, just bombing down this street blindly (I couldnt see where I was headed). But when I got there it was dawn, and when I arrived I reached property where a large house was being built, and there were strange cliffs in the distance, where you could literally see the remnants of old civilizations in the earth of the cliffsides. As I walked further up the hill, I was shocked to see two dolphins flying high ahead of me,… Read more »

Darling, how cool – you *must* google “dolphin medicine”, stat! The dolphin totem calls to mind to me the connection with the water element first and foremost – the emotional and intuitive realms. I always associate dolphin with “raising our vibrations” due their sonar clicks. They also have excellent hearing (good listeners) and can hear frequencies well beyond the range of human ears, similar to whale. Along this train of thought, I associate this energy with musicality as well. Dolphins are social creatures that travel in pods, so whenever I see this symbol come up I’m mindful of traveling in… Read more »

I’m pretty sure flying dreams have to do with our souls rememberimg what its like to be bodyless between lives.

Yes, except I think we are multidimensional are incarnating constantly in places where the rules are different in terms of gravity etc. so it need not even be between lives..

I have been in an emotionally abusive relationship for a few months .. The amazing thing is that my dreams started delivering me messages . The person male black energy became more and more intrusive . I started having nightmares … Then strange parts of my dreams started showing up in my life .. Symbols Etc .. Even down to the fact that I escaped from the man and was running away trying to get away in my dads red car . The next week my dad picked me up at the airport in that exact car because my other… Read more »

Ask your guides to deliver messages in your dreams . Then start morning pages .. First thing you do write out whatever you can remember from any dreams you had . After a week or so the dreams become more vivid and very powerful

I was ecstatic to ‘wake up’ in my dream the other night… I tested it by going for a quick flight – I have always been an adept dream flyer – and it confirmed it for me…off I flew into dream land, to explore my own dreamscapes, with a conscious eye, to relate my subconscious back to myself 🙂 Lucid dreaming AND flying = win 🙂

How Classic to see this post- I was just teaching my 5 year old son how to ‘bring on’ flying dreams tonight. They are the BEST!

Flying dreams to me signify the desire to break away from limitations. Had them a lot as a child, and when I feel stifled. Nothing like the big blue sky for inspiration. I used to have various forms of flying. The most basic is doing huge leaps and bounds up in the air, which is fun. Other times, I used my arms like a bird to soar….or to air swim. Sometimes I would ride my friend, a flying horse. And In some dreams i used to be rocket-like, and zoom about at great speed. Once, while rocket flying, I reached… Read more »

yes, sorry didn’t mean to sound like a blunderbuss – of course such things are not to be rendered into pixels for the internetworld to read, necessarily.. what’s yours is yours. Nevertheless, blue-based scenery and margaritas shall be sought and wished for others, for enjoyment: personal tales of inner / outer adventure or not

no need for apologies – i took it in the spirit that it was meant/asked. I just needed to write down the words: *wings, van, sand, sea, margaritas* ..sigh……nothing but cold, grey, wet and grind on this patch of the planet.

Earliest flying dreams were swinging around on the backyard hills hoist to launch myself off over the valley…

Nowadays the flying is quite controlled levitating, like very exaggerated, fluid parkour

These days I’m flying in real life. Productive vibes abound. Salud!

Oh..on another note.. I often do the Jupiter Re-zap binaural at toddler nap time to rejuvie but sometimes I don’t get to finish and find myself in half awake zone for a while after…anyone else? Do you think my brain gets put into alpha or delta or whatevs and you really need to finish the whole cycle to come out all refreshed?

I totally love flying dreams too. Although in the Archetypal dreamwork I’ve been doing whenever I’ve had one that I work with my Dreamworker she reckons The flying represents me escaping into realm of thought/mind/air…and I say how great that feels eg I was air swimming in my backyard a few weeks ago…anyway that’s prob just me. Still totally love them & the free feeling I have in them…but hey Aqua Sun/ Gem rising as if I wouldn’t love escaping into world of the mind! Ahhh! The mushroom powder! I’ve been drinking it twice a day and absolutely did not link it to my whack dreams. Der. No flying though. Once I dreamed I was staying at a hotel and I teleported everywhere, from my room, to the pool to the restaurant. That was awesome 🙂

😯 Flying dreams feel amazing! I’ve had a few dream about being on an aircraft at first, feeling the take off & then suddenly I look down & around & … there’s no aircraft but just me flying around. It is such a rush, butterflies & all. I know I’ve woken myself up when I “take off” in a dream without being in an aircraft, it’s a little unnerving. Perhaps I just need more “training”. Lately I’ve been dreaming about riding waves, which feels similar to flying, the rush is cool! I’ve been surfing so much this summer, every chance… Read more »

Any time I have flying dreams, I’m usually unintentionally astral projecting. I get freaked out and my Taurean nature has me waking up, lest I be lost forever on the astral realm… Not really flying, but I dreamed the other night that there was this insane woods of old, rock and mineral-encrusted trees inside a cave. For some reason, we could only walk on the tops of the trees, the branches. The crew I was with said we couldn’t climb down them, so we had to be pulled back up through the cave opening. The cave was full of amethyst… Read more »

Took the avatar Pegasus because i love to fly in jets or in dreams.
So delighted when i fly in my dreams and yes it feels amazingly natural.
Just a little run and take off above everything, just wish those dreams were nightly alas only a few times year but O the feeling :-).
Our ancestors may have had wings as much as they may have had gills way way back.

Remember the angel in Barbarella ‘an angel doesn’t MAKE love-an angel IS love’ he said when Barbi wanted to bonque him.

As a kid I was forever making wings out of cardboard..

My parents had little interest in naff representations of angels and we had no tv. Yet there I was trying to fly off the garage at 3 & 4 (my little Virgo brother saved my skin).

The feeling that I could fly was so powerfully certain.
It took a lot of integration to get to the point that I could realise this was not one of the flying worlds!! 🙂

Flying dreams!!! Love them. Best one ever, I was in my childhood home and went outside with my cat, Selket. I told a neighbor my cat could fly. He didn’t believe it. Cat and I look at each other, shrug. She takes off, then I follow. She can just take off and fly. I have to run and flap my arms.

We do a few passes and land. So there, Muggle! This was way before Harry Potter, probably around 1979-80.

My kids and I loved “Catwings” by Ursula LeGuin. About cats that flew, and spoke.

Amen to wings!

I’m sad about the fact I’ve never had a flying dream, that I remember. Plenty of falling dreams, and swimming/immersed in water dreams, but nothing resembling soaring with wings over and above all else.

Since last summer, I’ve been flying in almost all my memorable dreams. I start a revolution against some kind of oppressive regime in a lot of them, and while flying I fight its guards/police using mental weapons while dodging their physical ones.

I guess these are about fighting my self-oppression as well as representing my attitude about what goes on in the world. I link them to Psyche, which is conjunct Uranus in my natal chart.

Oh, by the way – had the weirdest dream experience the other night myself. I woke up but was completely in between consciousness. Everything was black and I was very aware that I was neither asleep nor awake. This has never happened before. I was very aware being in a nether-state, almost out-of-body -ish. Or like I was drugged.

And before anyone asks, there were no medicinal or psychotropic mushrooms involved, LOL. Nor other substances.

I think I’m just high on life.

As with any dream it’s important to note how you’re feeling in it. I’ve had flying dreams which are magnificent and powerful and free and others where I feel out of control.

OMG, I love flying dreams. Don’t have them nearly often enough though. I love it when you actually become aware that you’re flying, then take control and try a swoop or two and by the end of the dream you’re doing experiments with warp speed. I always feel refreshed and somehow lighter in my heart for a few days after. Your post has put a smile on my face as it’s triggered the memory of my last dream, which was a ripper!
