The Devil card in Tarot FREAKS people out. It is especially irritating to see it popping up in relation to a new person in your life. We joked about it in this Astro-Gaga.
In the online Tarot here, it has different meanings depending on where in the spread it is and what it’s next to. I don’t take as dim a view of it as the best Tarot reader i know (she’s passed on, sadly), a woman named Mary with the most gloomy Satunine demeanor possible and an insistence that the Devil card always meant “nasty business, most likely a man.”
Nor do i take such an enthusiastic approach to this card as, say, Crowley, who had it as Capricorn in high force, healthy avarice and ambition. Pagan to the max. It is variously life force but also addictions, dangerous people and/or being enslaved to debt. It is NOT the Christian Devil – a creature blended strangely from the horny Goat-God Pan or Dionysus (very Capricorn on heat) the morning star Venus (aka Lucifer or Light-Bearer) and several other sources.
The very word “devil” comes from “deva” or “diva” or “goddess.” So I think – and the Tarot on site reflects this – that when the Devil archetype/card appears, scan for first the prospect of anything dysfunctional – are you fuqing with your Qi in pursuit of a non-you material goal, having your brain scrambled by lust for/with someone who could be totally dodgy and/or in denial about a person in your life (you even) who might have a dependency spiralling out of control?
Once you’re scanned for the obvious signs of “devillish” dysfunction go all Pan/Dionysus on this. IN what way could a more earthy, ruttish and libidinal construct benefit your life now? What wildness within might you be repressing and how could you unleash it in an extremely cool way? And yes, Mars in Capricorn IS particularly synched to the Devil card.
