She Did It The Mars Way

I’m an Aries, I never lose,” said Bette Davis, the Golden Era Hollywood movie star.

She had the Sun and Saturn in Aries, with Scorpio Rising, so ruled by Mars + Pluto. Her Mars was in Taurus and the Moon conjunct Pluto in Gemini. Her Aries Sun was square Neptune AND Uranus, which would be like a constant crazy-brilliant play off between Neptunian imagination and Uranian ingenuity.

It would have been impossible not to amplify herself.

“This became a credo of mine…attempt the impossible in order to improve your work.”

“I wanted to be the first to win three Oscars, but Miss Hepburn has done it. Actually it hasn’t been done. Miss Hepburn only won half an Oscar. If they’d given me half an Oscar I would have thrown it back in their faces. You see, I’m an Aries. I never lose”

“The weak are the most treacherous of us all. They come to the strong and drain them. They are bottomless. They are insatiable. They are always parched and always bitter. They are everyone’s concern and like vampires they suck out life’s blood.”

“I have always been driven by some distant music— a battle hymn no doubt— for I have been at war from the beginning. I rode into the field with sword gleaming and standard flying. I was going to conquer the world.”

A few issues with Qi Vampires there I see.

  1. Qi vampires at work. Its the unstable picking on the soft ones. The same comment to me goes unnoticed. I have become the peace maker and everyone is needing to vent. I have had enough. Move forwards people, before I start a bullish snort and paw at the dust.
love Bette D she had balls.

  2. In the only 3 movies I remember her in, Now voyager and Baby Jane, she was the victim of psychic vampires and a third movie where she had an evil twin. Very interesting recurring theme.

  3. I had goosebumps reading that.
Ten minutes later they are still there.
I couldn’t have put it any better myself.
    Genius

  4. Have read several biographies about this iconic actress, including an autobiography. When you consider the struggles she faced as a strong woman in the film industry, at a time when men made all of the decisions, you may consider that the “weak” and “treacherous” she is referring to are these individuals, who, from a worldly perspective, are considered the strong and powerful, because of their position. http://youtu.be/XlldAcTyKiw

  5. Year of the Phoenix

Yep she was called one of the greats for a reason!

I think she was the first to break away from the studio system and take charge (Very Martian) of her career and star in films for any studio she damn well wanted and probs no couch needed

  6. I’ve always appreciated her conviction and determination. The Golden Era of cinema is not complete without her work.
I have a mirrored compact of her smoking a cigarette. Same Mars placement too.

  7. She could be Will Burroughs sister in this shot.

Sounds like she needs some new friends.

I prefer my Ramzillas a little more on the encouraging ”you can freaking do it” side.

Reading Maya Angelou – Letters to my daughter..now there is a haute Aries.

All due respect to Madame Davis, this is the side of la ram like a Lawyer holding the floor in a court room. Pfft. I do it once a month. A good vent of ”the world according to moi” and then head down, bums up, feeling lighter and brighter now back to work time.

I picture my Gemini / Aqua Rising sister rolling her eyes.

  8. yeah, i think if you read My Mother’s Keeper, you might get a glimpse of what she considers weak.

but I do like this quote of hers

” if God existed, He worked for me.” Bette Davis

  9. Ultimate Martian, I love her forever. Sometimes if I’m sad I just watch videos of her being interviewed on You Tube, helps, so much.

  10. I LOVE BETTE DAVIS.

When I was in high school, I was the theatre girl obsessed with Bette Davis, especially from ‘All About Eve’. I had top to bottom pictures of her in my locker.

Now I’m nearly as “old” as her character in that glorious film (“40. 4-0.”), and am as burnt out from theatre, divorced and single, as she was then.

Maybe it has something to do with me being a Cancer with Pisces rising, but as I type this, I take it as an exceptionally good “sign” of the awesomeness to come in my own life.

Also, I want “she did it the hard way” written on my tombstone. LOVE HER.

  11. My mum described “the tyranny of the weak” and similarly despised professional victims and drama divas. She was generous- Leo Moon- but her Gem Sun/Pluto saw through the fakers.

In college my b/f said I looked like a young Bette. Not in attitude- LOL!

    Mystic, love what you unearthed!!

    Xx Kat

  12. I wonder what she qualifies as “weak”? ….. From what has been quoted here I bet she is particularly weak at being supportive, kind or compassionate. Character traits which I particularly admire.

I don’t perceive people who feel the need to win all the time as being evolved, self actualised or displaying any great strength of character. To me that need to win is weakness … nobody wins all the time. It’s delusional to think that you can and shows great selfishness to consider it an attribute.

But then neuroscience has shown that psychopathic personality types tend to rise to positions of power in human society.

    1. I was sort of thinking along those lines too. Maybe weakness is mistakenly perceived in vulnerable or sensitive traits, or stopping to consider. Then there is perhaps weakness seen as what is in fact lack of courage or self belief or confidence. then there is weakness where someone might not know any better (maybe that’s the qi vamp vibe, asssuming someone else’s mojo is always stronger than yours)

    2. I imagine by weak she means people who aren’t prepared to face up to or get on with the tough stough, lacking courage maybe? Bleating on about your woes and not taking action to improve yourself.

Being strong and unprepared to accept defeat doesn’t make you unsupportive, unkind or uncompassionate – or a psychopath.

Her ‘never lose’ comment – she just got on with it, reframing when needed to maintain the forward motion – never losing.

      Aries (Sun Saturn, Mercury Lilith)

      1. Yes, this is how I interpreted it, too. Mystic chose very apt quotes for Bette’s astro, but if you aren’t more familiar with her, I can see how they might be taken out of context. She was basically a badass, who took her work seriously. She was frequently maligned for being a harpy or a hardass or a bitch to work with, but considering the times, it was most likely just backlash for her being a strong woman who stood up for herself and her career. I think that’s what she meant by “weak people” — people who tried to just take her down or throw snark, rather than seriously engage with her or see what she was about. She and Joan Crawford famously didn’t get along — another strong-willed, Aries woman. And it’s true that they were both completely awful to one another, but it’s tempting (for me, at least) to wonder if that might have been different in a time when there was perhaps more room for strong, opinionated and talented women.

    3. I think its her moon pluto conjunction talking. Compulsive dark need for nourishment maybe… in herself which she may be projecting and meeting in others. Here Zap zone placements would have none of that. You are what you most despise – its The Shadow

    4. I totally agree. I interpret it as low Qi Vamp types. They do suck you dry and feed off your energy. They want you to ‘save’ them or ‘help’ them, meanwhile, they can’t be bothered to get off their arses to improve their own lives. Or work. Just expect everyone else to take care of them.

I know a few ppl like that. Gradually cutting them out of my life. I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt, because in general I am very compassionate.

    5. I think you need to look at how a person wins. Do they play fair? Or are they cheating? It takes great discipline, hard work, and courage to come in first. Courage is the first step in the ladder of success. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and have a competitive nature to be first. They take those ram horns and break down barriers. They do that by excelling and facing any obstacle in its way. They are the trailblazers for others. From Davis’s website:

“With a career total of more than 100 films, Bette changed the way Hollywood looked at actresses. In 1977, she was the first woman to be honored with the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also the first woman to be president of the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences. ”

Other Aries…. Sandra Day O Connor was the first woman on the US Supreme Court. Gloria Steinem led the woman’s movement. Gina Carano opened the door to women getting national attention on tv for women’s Mixed Martial Arts. Danica Patrick… Nascar. Top selling female singers… Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Aretha Franklin. If there is a woman first in a traditonally male position, odds are high its an Aries woman.

Even win they lose, they don’t really lose due to having several wins under their belt. If they do lose, they often learn from their mistake and come back harder. An Aries will be the first to fight for you if you wanted help in a battle. Even if you didn’t want help, they may still fight for you anyways. Or they may let you do it on your own so you can see your own strength. Sometimes they can be blunt but they have a lot of heart behind it. This may be one of the reasons Davis refers to those as weak… People ask her to fight their battles for them instead of standing up for themselves. I’m an Aries and I can be compassionate. I have Mercury & Jupiter in Pisces plus a Cancer moon. I’ve donated my time to help others. I’ve excelled in several things taking top honors. I have lost and I know I will lose again at some point but I don’t feel that I really lose. Maybe that’s the Aries confidence that keeps us going and gives us the courage to take on anything.

      1. I love Bette Davis and the song “Bette Davis Eyes” by Kim Carnes. I felt it fit me well. Bette and I do have some similarities with Aries, Gemini planets, and Pluto flavor. I have Aries Sun opposite Pluto, Pluto in Libra (3rd house) sextile my Leo ascendant, and Mercury & Jupiter in 8th house.

People have called me fierce and ferocious. lol

  13. Sphinx, you were in my dream last night.
Two night in a row, have dreamt my car was stolen. Panic and Sphinx
    came to the rescue.

  14. What a woman and her quotes are so worthy of repeating.
My fave (at my age certain plus) is something to the effect women have it over men because of their beauty box i.e.: marquillage.
I realise this every time i apply foundation, it instantly takes 10 years off 🙂
Love you Bette. She was an ACTOR not a Film Star.

Am actually supporting an Aries woman at the moment whilst she is applying for work, as i know she will come through brilliantly and my gamble be an investment.
