“Confessions of a Quantitative Easer”

“…..In its almost 100-year history, the Fed had never bought one mortgage bond. Now my program was buying so many each day through active, unscripted trading that we constantly risked driving bond prices too high and crashing global confidence in key financial markets. We were working feverishly to preserve the impression that the Fed knew what it was doing.

It wasn’t long before my old doubts resurfaced. Despite the Fed’s rhetoric, my program wasn’t helping to make credit any more accessible for the average American. The banks were only issuing fewer and fewer loans. More insidiously, whatever credit they were extending wasn’t getting much cheaper. QE may have been driving down the wholesale cost for banks to make loans, but Wall Street was pocketing most of the extra cash.
From the trenches, several other Fed managers also began voicing the concern that QE wasn’t working as planned.

Our warnings fell on deaf ears. In the past, Fed leaders—even if they ultimately erred—would have worried obsessively about the costs versus the benefits of any major initiative.

Now the only obsession seemed to be with the newest survey of financial-market expectations or the latest in-person feedback from Wall Street’s leading bankers and hedge-fund managers. Sorry, U.S. taxpayer…”

The whole economy has been going through a Pluto transit since 2008 (Pluto into Capricorn coincided with the Lehman Brothers collapse) & the above is just one of a gazillion examples. The whole piece is worth reading. But let’s get it clear: Pluto in Capricorn does not cause Global Financial Fuqery – it is unearthing it.

Just like the monthly Moon-Pluto Flashpoint is EPIC for uncovering crap, secrets, delusions and repressed emotions in your personal life.  It is on the Scheduler Calendar as “Moon Pluto Flashpoint” and it’s a good time to ask someone you think is sneaky or in denial “what’s up?”   We should be asking this more often of our so-called leaders.

“My name is secluded,
we live in a house the size of a matchbox,
Roaches live with us wall to wall,

You’ve killed all our leaders,
I don’t even have to do nothin’ to you
You’ll cause your own country to fall”.

Yes, I totally agree that we should be asking this of our so-called leaders. Many do. Trouble is these leaders often don’t answer back. Then one is left to come to one’s own conclusions & considering how many people operate on faulty facalties, well, then we just end up with one big cluster fuq, don’t we.

Aaaahhh so spot on at the moment at my work, cloak & dagger moves, snips in the back ground and no one is happy, except me who has taken note off all the advise from my daily Mystic emails and sat back and played it cool.

Oh I dunno … my feeling is that just like “self” needs regular pruning to stop it growing into a monster, so does “society”. It’s a healthy part of the whole natural lifecycle of things for some aspects to become overgrown and need a culling. In this case our financial and political structures. I’m not too worried. Focus on the positive. Stay “haute” as Mystic would say. Continue to bring down the light on a daily basis and refuse to sink into pessimism. If there is one conspiracy theory I do believe in, it is that media has been hijaked… Read more »

Hello Mr Murdoch! He hijacked our election, he’s not even Australian anymore for crying out loud! Enough of the effing billionaires running the show – bring back Paul Keating. Love the interviews on ABC with the man who had vision AND integrity AND created a more fair Australia by creating the superannuation laws. Medicare. Even the GST was his idea – Jonh Howard just took all the credit…

WORD Double H – couldn’t agree more – Keating an exceptional treasurer. Pity KRudd was such a low Virgo – micromanaging, couldn’t see the wood for the trees, too petty to enact the Emissions Trading Scheme because he wanted to get back at Turnbull, who was on side on the ETS – and no one having the guts to explain to the country that this was why Rudd was dumped. It was all shrouded in some vague narrative that made no sense to anyone, even people who knew the inside story. What’s more, note how the last few aussie elections… Read more »

How GOOD are the interviews on ABC!!! 🙂 I’m obsessed with Paul Keating *sigh* Love Kerry O’Brien too. Do you read Mike Carlton’s column in SMH? He did a piece on previous PM’s and how they would be remembered. Love this line about Keating “Paul, as we saw last Tuesday, distills and dispenses a stateman’s wisdom from his temple of the neoclassical arts” – Gold!! 😀 Keating’s is such an über Cap isn’t he? Loved hearing him talk about power, knowing what he wanted to achive from such a young age, his love of classical music and how his mum… Read more »

Haha Scorpbot! Oh yes, and how sexy was he when he was managing soul bands in the 60’s I love his mix of earthy classism, inate sensitivity to beauty and the hardnosed union rep always striving for the greater good of the 99% – MM had said something in a post about history crushes…..realised PK is mine last week – only he’s just looking a bit ancient

Have also been enjoying these interviews…. Generally, Cap energy makes me puke (sorry), but Keating is a major exception. (Mind you, he has Aries Asc and Venus in Sagg, which could explain that – a truly fascinating chart that is well worth a look – 10th house Sun, of course, and Mercury bang on MC). I’ve been banning the Daily Telegraph since it printed the picture of Tony Abbott as PM BEFORE the election, and they start ranting about how selfish the bleeding heart Green Lefties are… I read there has been a study recently (don’t have the article to hand) that all News Corp. papers statistically underplay, push back to page 8 or after any reports about Climate change, and publish NO scientific studies. Apparently only Sydney Morning Herald writes information about the reality of Climate change. How do these journalists live with themselves, selling their credibility and country down the river. Word – again you two! Editor of the Australian Chris Mitchell is overtly pro Liberal party, anti- everything else. He was put in the role to specifically control public opinion under Murdoch – a few years ago someone wrote a book about the situation. Totally key in bringing down Oz governments and manipulating anything that is not pro-Extreme Capitalism.

So rightwing it is just revolting….. last weekends had an review about the Paul Keating interviews with Kerry O’Brien (who I used to massage when I was working as massuse back in the 90’s in Brisbane, absolute good guy!) they had to admit he was an interesting charactor – just didn’t bother to put his face in the photo – just the back of his head hahahahah afraid of something?

I guess that is what worries me, I was born in a country with a corrupt government, though I’ve been here since age 6.

It is a good life in Australia, and mainly decent people and liberal, democratic values. I hate to see this eroding, and frustrated that the people don’t wake up and smell the bullshit.

Holy shit they are juking the stats, no fucking way. Everything else up until this point was already fucked up, but this? seriously? Basically we haven’t recovered from the recession at all, the only thing that happened is a recovery on paper to restore faith in the markets, and the only people benefiting are the ones who did this. The only way I see this working out is if Elizabeth Warren becomes president, she is specialized in this kind of stuff and is the only person who could get the much needed regulation on wall street ASAP, probably she won’t… Read more »

and I know it seams suspect to have any pet politician you think could help things out, but she is the only one dead set on regulating wall street, and as far as politics go, her becoming president is a long shot, but honestly that is the only way I see this working out, otherwise business as usual until something even more terrible then before happens and people demand change

David, i think Mystic has been saying this for a while. The ZZ is not going to end until, what 2015? You can’t tell me you didn’t feel it in your bones, either. Someone i know who is well versed in commercial and political spheres expressed shock this evening at the surveillance of high level leaders’ private phones. I was shocked at his shock! Over the weekend i was shut down for saying that where there is info there is a saleable commodity: “Oh no there are laws against insider trading! ” I’m sure you could sense it, but you… Read more »

Virgo Ellie

Ok.. so I can send out a communique to the toro/gem and ask “what’s up?” Like WTHeck were you thinking?

But yes we need new leaders ASAP. Why the financially fuq’ree is happening under the current leader of the US’s term is beyond me but it happened during these terms to say something. If he was good enough he would have been able to turn it around. Unfortunately he isn’t so we are struggling. Something has to happen to get us back to normalcy.

Virgo Ellie
Virgo Ellie

No worries.. it is painful to see but maybe we deserve this.. I hate to say it but we are being brought down now. There is a way to change it though.. we need someone with a business mind set. We don’t have it.. it’s mostly a selfish pursuit of misunderstanding the needs of people.

quintile

Bless dear – I don’t think individuals deserve economic hardship and uncertainty, but as Prowln says below, there are cycles and somethings peak and die, coming to an natural conclusion. x

Virgo Ellie
Virgo Ellie

I agree.. completely.. I just don’t understand how we could let an individual run the US when he has no business sense at all. Most fell for his speech and not his actions. We are dying in the US! People are living in hospitals, now being pushed to the limit with healthcare costs and there is nothing we can do but hope for a revolution to take over the government. Yes, this is a phase for the US and we are at rock bottom. After we change guards things will regain strength and hope for the citizens. But right now… Read more »

Oh dear Elle,

SOMEONE with a business mindset gave rise to the end of all that you thought of as normalcy. Your normalcy is just what YOU got used to in YOUR lifetime, a little reading of history of the world not just the USA would lift the veil from your eyes The cowboys who rode off into the sunset with YOUR normalcy, are still drinking chhampagne on their yachts moored off the Geek Islands chatting and laughing at the stupidity of the PLEBS. Your new astro signature could be labelled “crying for the moon”

Virgo Ellie

Thanks. I am not crying though. I have never been happier. I have accepted the fact that we are going to die .. end of story.

UltraSag
UltraSag

Well, um, yes.

Birth -> Death -> Rebirth

This is the cycle. This is the Pluto cycle.

As for your other points about needing a ‘business mindset’ – hell no. Nobody needs the sort of reckless, relentless, murderous profiteering that certain states and certain politicians indulged in, in recent years.

There’s no easy way to say this, so I’m just going to say it plainly:

Normalcy is dead. Whatever normalcy is, it’s been gutted & buried in a pine box at an unmarked grave. Is it in heaven now? No, it never had a soul. Sorry for your loss, VE.

quintile
quintile

ah Ellie – if only I could believe it was that simple – no-one can turn “it” around now – if ‘it’ has an identity, its probably closest to a juggernaut: a huge wagon/movement that crushes devotees beneath its wheels. Let’s just hope it doesn’t bring us all down with it…vale extreme capitalism!

whoopdeedoo
whoopdeedoo

What is “normalcy”, anyway? It’s just a statistical figure.

You haven’t been reading this blog very closely if you’re still pining (and expecting) the return to “normal”. Wishing for the return of “normalcy” like watching the medieval Church wringing their hands over that crazy Gutenberg: What’s next? The Bible in English? Deus custodiat nos ex heresi!

Normal is an abstract cultural construct invented to distract us from the inevitability of change, as if we could put Time and Space in a pretty box and call it our Precious.
