Aries Women Like Nietzsche?

Filed in Aries

Camille Paglia Sexual Personae

BRIGHT LIGHTS FILM MAGAZINE: Bette Davis said that when she woke up on her sixtieth birthday, she “screamed and stayed in bed all day” and also remarked that “anyone who says that life begins at forty is full of crap! As people get older their bodies begin to decay. They get sick. They forget things. What’s good about that?” How are you and the aging process getting along?

CAMILLE PAGLIA: I laughed out loud at your great Bette Davis quote! It really conveys her formidable, unconventional personality and blunt, pragmatic Yankee spirit. Don’t forget she was an Aries (like me) — Aries women are devotees of Nietzschean will power and inexhaustible nervous energy. So it’s no surprise that Davis, despite the fact that her movie career was never dependent on beauty, would despise aging.

God i remember the first time I saw this book – a pure raw Aries blast of dissident everything. It’s outrageously dense to read but totes brilliant. And Bette Davis was insanely Aries.  She would have adored this era – access to much more power & energy enhancing disciplines.

Thoughts on Aries women as devotees of Nietzschean will power and inexhaustible nervous energy? Aging? Sixty is just after the 2nd Saturn Return BUT Ms Davis turned 60 it was 1968, an entirely different proposition to now, yes?

Aries & Ageing, Bette & Camille, both ballsy dames, both artists. In my books artists have carte blanche to do and say whatever they want just for the chutzpah of being outside the hive. Aries just don’t stand still enough to age, they would out run it wouldn’t they. As a multi-Sagg, have been wondering for 15 years when i would lose my figure, health & pleasant visage to ‘old age’ being as i used to be a test pilot for every new underground drug in the 60’s & 70’s (mescaline got the top marks on the score board :-),… Read more »

I’ve never really read anything by Camilla Paglia, of course she would be Aries though, looks it. Bette Davis on the other hand is my ultimate Aries/Scorp icon, I could look at her face, watch her act, watch interviews with her, read quotes from her until the end of days. Aries would feel ageing to be an outer manifestation of weakness and you know how much us Martians haaaate weakness. I’m loving aspects of ageing, all the internal stuff is amazingly good, the external stuff fills my Libra stellium with heart stopping fear. Perhaps I need to work on evolving… Read more »

Camille Paglia is a backstabbing, right-wing anti-feminist. She may say ‘Nietzschean’ but it wouldn’t surprise me if she was thinking more along the lines of Ayn Rand, the famous NeoCon fascist hero. Her book may be decent, but she’s awful. On the main subject, I am a Moon in Aries and I’ve slept for 11 hours per day throughout my whole week off. It’s very irritating but I have a chronic health problem – if I didn’t have I’m sure I’d have all the get up and go I had as a child, when I wouldn’t suffer no matter how… Read more »

Camille Paglia?

Meh.

Self indulgent, self absorbed twat.

One of those boringly annoying contrarian types that just likes to argue for the sake of it. Blows a lot of hot air, but at the end of the day contributes fuck all of any note to anything. Seems like her sole purpose for existing is winding people up and slagging off her peers.

Low brow. Common. Peasant … my mercury in Leo is not in the least bit amused.

this was a great book, I totally loved at the time… after I’d read a bit more of Camille Paglia, I realized she wasn’t always totally consistent, and really just liked to express outrageous opinions at whatever she was feeling at that given moment. Kind of like Germaine Greer also… but I actually prefer Germaine Greer. They are both agent provocateurs rather than necessarily people to listen to with an uncritical mind…. what I like is they WANT you to be critical. I love the Aries-ness of just letting both barrels fire, when you want to rant about something, and… Read more »

Some of my best friends are Aries. The women are a delight, the men are sexy. They all have energy to burn and the ability to keep up with this Libran party lover. I have a 16 y o Aries son (birthday today) and he can be a force of nature, when he chooses.

I love being 65 and I’d never go back to being younger. Yes, my gorgeous body gets painful, you can get aches and pains, but you don’t have the fears of youth, you’ve gained wisdom, you can say what you like and not give a damn about what anyone else thinks, you can be fearless and off the planet, you can step off the treadmill and flip the finger at passing fads and stupid celebrities, you can wear what suits you and feeds your spirit rather than being tied to fashionista crap, and you’ve earned it. I love wearing purple… Read more »

Yes I loved this book too. I remember trying to get into Germaine Greer & giving up, this made so much more sense to me. I don’t know much about Nietszche except that his philosophy caused some young men to suicide in despair. And that the Nazi’s used his work because his sister was a big fan of the Nazi’s and rewrote parts of it for them. Steiner met him close to the end and said he was a beautiful soul who didn’t manage to make a success of his soul contract in this life. As for Bette Davis, I… Read more »

can’t really contribute on the aries whirlwind phenom, but I do know that my pilates and yoga instructors (well, they were when I was going) are in their late 50s or early 60s and they both have the physique and vivacity of a healthy, vibrant 20-something. This alone is a good advertisement for the long-term benefits of these practices!

Love Camille Paglia and this book!!! She has mentioned her Aries and Italian pride on a few occasions in interviews. I was hyperparanoid about aging since like…age 20. I was very ill in high school and had bags under my eyes at 17. Working in an image and age obsessed industry definitely didn’t help. But surprisingly and miraculously recently this has completely stopped. I just stopped obsessing and started doing/being. The way I see it if you really are committed to holistic health and fitness you will only get more beautiful inside and out as you age, outlast everyone else,… Read more »

I keep thinking that way about age and getting work done too. But then my doc told me that botox is a dumb idea.
Why go organic then inject bacteria in your face?

She also said that when we see someone upset we mimic them and elicit the necessary feelings – compassion etc. to feel your way into their shoes.

People who have had lots of botox done become a bit ‘autistic’ as she put it. They can’t relate to others with as much feeling as they can’t mirror. Bizarre, no?

Lisa Bonet one of the most perfect looking ladies imo.

Can vouch for nervous energy. It’s 10 past 2pm, i need to write my multi conjunct scorp fathers funeral speech. I’ve giving it tomorrow, after a 5 hour drive. So far i have decluttered 2 kitchen drawers, taken out all the recycling, soaked a sh*t load of whites, mopped, been out to brekkie with my katakan bestie, had my eyebrows tinted and waxed…the list goes on. I sometimes need to wait till the last moment to come up with something short, precise, raw and honest, without being ,melodramatic, gushy, or making it about me. when I was writing a little speech for my father’s funeral, I slept on it for days and days and days. couldn’t start. then finally the structure and an opening line came to me, and I had finished it in an hour or so – the day before the funeral. a few read-throughs out loud, minor edits. that was it. the words will come xxoo

Same same as you there Pi, swimming round for days. Just needed the full stop ending, all done now, so sweet as a mo-fo !
Emailing to Katakan/Sag Rising/Scorp bestie to give honest opinion ( i did this for her step dad last year) ..and done like a kipper.
Such a shame smoking is no good for you now days, or i’d be on the front porch, earl grey in a beat up old fine china cup and a champion ruby rollie, practising blowing smoke rings..

I just bought some Hopi Rustica Tobacco. I am going to plant some seeds and grow some tobacco plants.
Ideally I would use them for cleansing and purifying but I can’t guarantee one of my dad’s old pipes won’t be used for ‘peace’ purposes. Tobacco is sacred plant CF like Pi intimates, bless, xx.

My assistant is an Aries and she’s just a hoot for this multiple Cap to work with. She’s hardworking, creative and caring. Yes caring. And she’s very funny too. She comes up with great ideas and contributes in all sorts of ways to making my job the pleasure it is. I have other Aries in my life as friends and they are such FUN. I love their bravery and loyalty. If they blow up it’s not really as disturbing as with other signs. I wonder why? As for aging….What’s the alternative? i think that Aries doesn’t blow up with emo or venom or thwarted power or invested self-interest like most other signs. so it’s easier to handle. the arieses or aries influenced types I have known always seem to give you somewhere to come back to, you can redeem yourself just by being excellent (punctual / work harder / be more up-front / harden up) again.

I don’t know if they like Neitzche or not but they can live on willpower alone. I know more Aries Moon than I do Aries sun but they are all go-go-go! all the time. Get up early! Stay up late! They are the worst at recovery. If they break a toe, instead of staying off of it, they think it’s ok to run 3 miles since their normal run is 10 mi. Stop running means stop running…not keep sort of gimping along until everything breaks. They hate ageing because it sort of sneaks up on them, but they don’t spend… Read more »

My Aries ex parties almost every night until 2 or 3AM and then gets up at 7AM to work. O_o Like this goes on and on and on, no crashing or anything. I don’t know how anyone can treat their body that bad (total bachelor lifestyle: beer, burritos, and coffee; barely any actual water!) and not be crashed out all the time. They really are a force of nature.

A crap thing about ageing is not being in your physical peak at the same time as emotionally or psychologically. And then we should be at the peak of all of these, continuously, for about 50 years. As we are getting wiser, we should be getting hotter, ya know 🙂 A multi-Aries perspective.

So true! My step-mum is Sun Aries AND Aries rising – when she was diagnosed with cancer last year she was just royally pissed off. Her words were “How dare my body betray me like this?!”.
Bless her. But she might have been onto something – one year later, and she’s currently cancer free and planning a trip to South America!!

Speaking as an Aries female, I actually I never liked Nietzsche, or Derrida, Baudrillard or or the other male philosophers in general that we had to read for fine art theory, I found them too Eurocentric and mysoginist.

But I loved Camille Paglia!! – brilliant, and acerbically funny

and ageing IS weird, (am 48 in a couple of weeks), i have athritis in my feet, and menstrual cycle is wonky, but I still have a LOT of energy, and willpower. BUT I do rest more now…

bravepoet

I have been 48 for 3 weeks now. I am no different to 14 – and that is almost uncool and ridiculous. Aging body but juvenile mind? Mirka Mora ( the Melbourne artist ) is all about staying with your childlike attitude – but I’m really struggling with whether to ‘grow up’. Maybe the answer is just to grow! Best wishes to you, Aries ( the baby of the zodiac) or are you Taurus ( the terrible twos ) from Pisces ( the alzheimers of the zodiac, lol!)
