She’s Got Luggage

You know, i’m fascinated by the diff between baggage & luggage -it’s especially of interest now.

Heading into the Zap Zone, it’s good to travel light. Yes to luggage – our actual must-haves, life-enhancers and repository of wisdom. But check the baggage, non-needed neurosis, stale relationship grievances, prejudices from the pre-Pluto in Capricorn era.

Baggage is grotty, luggage is glam.

I believe I am a luggage person in so many ways. I only travel with 9 kilos no matter where I am going and regardless of how long I am away. However, one out of three times the airline company will lose my luggage, sometimes for my entire holiday and or business trip. I can appreciate the need to lose the baggage but it does not seem fair that it is the luggage that I am being asked to lose.

I’ve put a whole bunch of my baggage into trunks and now it’s in storage to deal with at a later date, probably during my Pluto Square Venus transits which looks like it’ll take up most of 2013-2016 (ff’s). Got a MASSIVE load of luggage with me still but it’s manageable, yes it is.

Lunch break while Scorp Sun, Merc, Venus/Cancer Rise/Cap Moon neighbor is off buying tarpaulins to protect garage sale/purge items. She’s frogmarching me through my garage: “That’s a pile of stale energy! Have you even used this in the past five years? What is this sh*t??” I’m having a good laugh because I’m grateful for the enforcer and because of the astro: her Moon and my Sun both at 6 Cap. Pluto doin’ his stuff… And actually, having grown up with a hoarder, I despise that impulse. But after all the changes these past two years (read: tossing stuff and moving)… Read more »

Witness Protection Program? Come to Pluto, we specialize in Nine Circle Decluttering, Death by Design, and of course, our specialty, Phoenixing du Jour.

Our shiny yet obviously wrung out and exhausted graduates are then speed shipped straight to Uranus, empty and willing to be chaotically inspired.

All Pluto informational packets are delivered by fire, so please do mind this if you don’t want your house to burn down. When you’re ready for Uranus, you will be alerted digitally via at least seven different types of media. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s easy to de-clutter material objects for me, I am working on de-cluttering my mind of past trauma, cobwebs and skeletons is the real challenge.
My Saturn is in my 12th House so, this is what I am supposed to be successfully doing right now. Clearing away all the psychic crap. No wonder Scientology appeals to some people.

Anyone hear of this: The Forgetting Pill?

I hadn’t read it until just now but agree with the concept of sharing the trauma as opposed to suppressing it. Somewhere in the mind as some point that will internalise on the person and create more dystunction, depression, fear or stories etc to cope with the experience. I have heard that it can also on occasion be misdiagnosed as schitzophrenia by a top psychologist out lecturing from the UK due to certian similarities in symptoms. Still this might also depend on duration past the event or even whether that person was still ‘not talking’ about it and just presenting… Read more »

Once I realized that every 12 years I leave a life behind (books, cats, a house, a car, pictures, plants, even memories, even underwear) , I learned not to attach to the “things” in my life…

I understood the Zen story of saying “this cup is broken” while the cup holds your tea.

Potentially the same thing with just an negative or postive spin placed upon each. One sounds more palatable but both still involve carrying some stuff into a possible future. Determining the usefulness of what is being carried? Sometimes that can’t always be gleaned until one arrives at the destination and even then the ability to discard or keep isn’t always immediate.

I just read your earlier post. Confession to being self absorbed in work pressures that are pushing me to the brink so musing broadly on concepts to diffuse pressure. Still, I can suggest, since sometimes it can feel impossible, that you consider what is authentic to you now or in the near future. It’s impossible to understand what we might want/need up the track and it’s laced with the emotional or identity type attachment we place on things as well. I am ruthless in culling yet not. I always allow for any thing to potentially remain but sometimes I find… Read more »

I can’t work out if I am supposed to be “getting rid of” (how I detest that phrase lately) most of my worldly possessions. It doesn’t feel fair! But I need the money! But how can I enjoy myself PROPERLY without surfboard..snow gear… car to get there…beautifully made classic but interesting dining chairs that I bought on a whim and are perfect Pisces household items and I NEVER buy furniture so this is meant to be meaningful and forever and AAAH I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND I do not throw books away (ie take to library / charity shop). Isn’t the point of lightening the load to shed things that are ‘no longer you’ – not those you feel are an important representation of your identity – just for the sake of shedding?

Think of it this way- a plant can’t grow where a weed already sits.
There are only so many spaces for things in the world/your life. Somethings must go to allow for energy to come in and create change.
There are a lot of sites on the web to help you know exactly what to get rid of, how to know what to keep, etc…
Good Lucck!

and a the definition of weed is that it is a plant growing in the wrong place…and one person’s weed is another person’s valued plant. Medicinal weeds being but one example. And eucalypts here in South America another. Which kind of agrees with Anonymous’ comment about semantics above…one persons baggage is another persons luggage. But we are only talking about ourselves, I can only identify what is my own luggage as opposed to baggage.

If it’s any help, Pi, I’m in the middle of a months-long major declutter (aeons to go yet) and the only criterion I’m using is, ‘do I love it?’ This has brought some very surprising results. Stuff I might not use every day, but I love, it stays; stuff I use all the time but am ‘meh’ about – it’s going. Re clothes – I’m left with about three things I actually wear but a pile of ‘vintage’ Geoff Bade/George Gross from the 80s which I will never part with, and would still wear, if only I could get through… Read more »

Decluttering. I use the following simple rules: 1) Is it beautiful AND enhancing to my life? 2) Is it actually useful TO ME? Or will someone else have better use of it? 3) Is it something I’d consider a keepsake and for whom? 4) Does it resonate with the core of who I am? 5) Do I have a better vision for what I want & need rather than this (insert object here)? I’ve come to accept that sometimes you need to declutter in stages, it’s a bit like quitting smoking. Unless you’re one of those people who can quit… Read more »

Hi Fallen Angel.. thanks for your list. I am struggling with getting rid of “things”. I need to decide on how to get rid of the “old” to bring in the “new” and that is in reference to material things.

Decluttering in stages is “so me”. I start the process, do a good job, put it aside and then I come back to it. So, I am so with the it takes stages.

I think the urge to purge to make room for the awesome is quite a different scenario than feeling forced to purge due to temporary financial constraints. Having “been there” not so long ago, my advice would be to be not to make selling off your shit a permanent solution to a temporary financial problem – make your decisions on the basis of “when I’ve landed the most amazing post in New Caledonia with a team of hot scientists”, will I have to buy this all this shit again? I’ve been ‘studying’ and practising letting go of clutter for a few years now. Some things are easier to let go of than others, but it can be the ones that seem hard to let go of that bring the most relief when you do! Don’t have any magic miracle stories yet, but I feel lighter and less confused and overwhelmed when I let go of things. What I want most is more time to do what I love, so I’ve started looking at things and asking them ‘will you help me do something I love doing, or will you… Read more »

Says Pluto direct squaring Uranus: Transform your baggage into luggage quick smart, or perish when Saturn moves into Scorpio and handles it for you!

Anonymous

Luggage/baggage is semantics in my opinion. The difference is in the eye of the beholder? What I see as perfectly reasonable luggage you may see as baggage based on our different life experiences. OR what I view as my own baggage may turn out to be very useful luggage under shifting circumstances.
I’d say it’s less about the nature of the receptacle and more about how you use the contents.

AlterEgoTrip

Baggage and luggage… and you know what? Forget about pre-Pluto Capricorn.. I still have issues unresolved from Pluto/Scorpio, and one could say I may be the better for it and more self aware of my sensitivities because of it all.
