Could A Taurus Sleep Beneath This Picture?

Filed in TAURUS

Is this Taurus art? When I think of Taurus, I think of the Venus People and of soothing, sensual art.

The title of this picture above translates (according to me) as The Big Metaphysics or The Megaphysician.

Anyway, Donatella Versace has the original above her bed.  She’s Taurus Sun, Taurus Rising and Moon in Virgo – her Sun Rising gives her somewhat of the flavor of Leo Rising. Sun is the ruler of Leo.

Anyway, two questions:

* What do you think this amazing picture is all about?

* Could you sleep underneath it? I don’t think i could. And I thought all Taureans loathed abstract or surrealist art. Maybe the whole point is that the picture is actually a Surrealist Guide Spirit and it talks to you in your dreams? Or you go into the picture during your sleep?

Giorgio De Chorico – Il Grande Metafisico – another Cancerian Artist.

I have the same birthday as Dali, but I would never sleep under that or any other picture. First of all I don’t like things over my head when I’m sleeping. Second of all it’s too busy and pointy. That said, I do like surrealism in general.
Taurus Sun, Leo Rising, Leo Moon.

Ps. I know it’s not a Dali painting.

No I could not sleep with this in my room.

Taurus Sun, Taurus Rising and Moon in Pisces here: this particular one, no – a bit too urinous/bilious green for my taste in this rendering: it’s prettier in this version # , and there is something so lonely about it, but generally love love love surrealism. Parents of an old school friend used to have a copy of Dali’s Christ of St John of the Cross hanging above their bed which kind of freaked me out, but hey…

I think a real Taurean might, if only to re-assure themselves that their machinery was holding together quite nicely thank you.

Yeah, but what level of “self” is being portrayed here?

I have not seen this version of ‘il grande metafisico’ before. The painting I think of as the ‘metafisico’ is the one painted in 1917 (The one depicted looks to be dated 1916). I much prefer the later painting. In it the central figure of the metaphysician is more symmetric and less chaotic and consequently more optimistic about a post-Nietzschean world. In the 1917 painting there is also a stronger break in the symmetry of the background. In the image above, the symmetry and break in symmetry is the other way round. For me, the later painting speaks of the… Read more »

Hell no! Something softer like John Collier or a Waterhouse maybe but that all just says jagged edges to me.

Maybe it’s to remind the Taurean self that they are human above all their collected material “stuff”. Free your inner self from all the outer crap. Maybe she does go there to reboot in her sleep.

I have Jupiter in Taurus and I LOOOOVE surrealism, but I’m not too crazy about abstract art. The latter seems to lack any sort of meaning to me (which is why I probably cant tell you what the painting is about…haha). My Virgo Moon tends to overanalyze abstract pieces to DEATH with no conclusion. I think surrealism is probably speaking to my Cancer stellium.

I have always loved abstract Art, in all of its intricacies. Sun & Venus in Tau, Mercury and Mars in Gem, with a Virgo Moon. No, I dare not sleep under any abstract piece, too mental. I would prefer abstract in a Living Room / Den like setting though. Give me something more soft and feminine over the bed [more importantly to me, in the bed, lol], or in the bedroom itself.

I looked metaphysics up in the dictionary for clarification and it deals with “beyond” physical…abstract general reasoning, incorporeal, supernatural, visionary…mere theory. I see this as a send-up of meta-physicians…the figure is on a platform and seems to be a chaotic assemblage of what appears to be incomplete “constructions”. Essentially, the conundrum for metaphysicians is that in order to communicate ones “knowledge”or experience, one has to cloak the mystery/vision in a language understandable to others thereby “veiling” it in what it is not! The Big Metaphysician essentially mirrors the landscape it resides in and thats the joke. Sweetpea mentioned a contradiction..and… Read more »

Yeah, I could sleep under it. I love de Chirico, my old art school’s museum has a rather nice de Chirico painting in its collection.
As a Taurus, I like it because this has a solid, flat horizontal ground plane and the figure stands in a stable construction, wider at the bottom and even buttressed for more support. The forms scream stability but the structures in the column defy perspective.

Hmm. I’m thinking of my Taurus friends and while they each have an appreciation of the arts, I cannot see them putting this over their beds. They might own it, but not in the bedroom. The Taurus people I know like elements of nature or sensual looking stuff. This is like the antithesis of sensual. I think a Taurus would like this in a hallway or an office because it would represent some idea they had about something else. The symbolism would be attractive and they might also attach to it some sentimental value for some reason known only to… Read more »

Irk no. Nothing appealing to me there at all. I find most surrealist artwork just plain ugly to the eye – abstract I can admire, but not this. I need to know what’s going on, so what have we here? Coffins? Closets? Peepholes? And gawd – even the obligatory penis in the background??
Cap sun, aqua moon here – shudder!

Love, LOVE the colours, (not to wear, but definitely to look at), but the piece itself? Not for me. Well, at least I don’t think I could sleep under it anyhow.
Oh, I don’t know, the more I look at it the more I like it, though there is something slightly off-putting about it. Too many sharp angles, maybe.

BLECK.
The colors are pretty, but that’s about it. Everything is so cluttered!
Sun & Venus in Taurus with Moon ascendant, so its pretty obvious I would never sleep under this. EVER.
Currently I sleep under an illustration of a very Rococo woman on a balcony, reading a love letter from her dearest who is climbing up the balcony behind her. Extremely romantic and beautiful. Hee hee!

This reminds me of the Tess Doerner character (Summer Glau) in the SciFi series The 4400 – building a contraption to the sky with strange powers & for mysterious purposes.
I liked the series a lot, but don’t really want the insane Tess looming over my bed.

Anyhow, hanging anything over my head makes me anxious unless it’s light as a feather… and even then. (Wonder if that antipathy corresponds to any particular sign placement.)

I see the surrealism, but still find it too materialistic for a bedroom. It might be interesting in a library perhaps.

T

I like it, but it’s too busy for the bedroom. Of course, I say this as someone whose bedroom is currently so cluttered, it’s a wonder I can sleep at all. (I read somewhere once that Scorps are the sign least affected by their surroundings, and for me it’s true. Pretty spaces are great, of course, but basically, I can relax anywhere. Unfortunately, that doesn’t help my tendency to be a total slob.)

GeorgeSand

That is so funny. My bedroom is a mess and I couldn’t care less. Thank god for the Cancer husband I tell you! I like all his paintings actually but I’m not sure if I’d pick that one for my bedroom. I think it’s supposed to convey something along the lines of each and every part makes sense but when put together as a whole its becomes an enigma. Or something like that…. BTW as a teenager I dreamt once that I was in one of his paintings.

Lauren

That makes three of us! Lazy Scorpios must also be slobs. I admit that my bedroom is usually a mess. I can relax just about anywhere as well, but I do often feel better mentally and emotionally when I make the effort to clean up, however infrequently that is. I think it’s my Virgo Moon that likes this painting. I think I’d actually like it above my bed, as my dreaming is usually very fragmented and deconstructed, which is what the painting reminds me of. I have nothing in Taurus except Chiron, so maybe it would give me dreams of… Read more »

The upper body reminds me of the part of oneself that is free of the “angles”/baggage which are subject to the “working thru” of issues and perspectives/experiences hindering the lower chakras from flowing with the overall/crown/throat/heart parts of oneself. Venus in Taurus says no, I don’t care for those angles but as Aries am working thru several right now. “Hey You”…still listening to Pink Floyd since LL (Lovely Libranaquarius brought them up). “Hey you, can you help me to carry the stone? Open your heart, I’m coming home” Venus in Taurus could sleep beneath such a pix but would probably… Read more »

Also I hate the colours yellow and green together, was Hugh school uniform, still can’t get over that combo. And secondly it looks like one of those stupid adds on tv for stronger beer trying to be arty and cool and having the brunette (cause only brunettes can be artistic in advertising of course, blondes are for sex only) build a stack if chairs, massive, as an art piece. Reminds me of that ad for Melbourne with the ball of red wool. Don’t get me wrong I like symbolism but, yes, no, not this one.

Yeh I’m thinking it might work for Taurus sister, maybe not that exact piece, but now that I think about it her love of intricacey, complexity in design and thought, which is difficult to see at first because otherwise is almost conservative, hates surreal around her, everything has to be in its place. But then you see loves boxes, wooden like on this dress and fashion, and things south American. It’s like the weirdness has to be trapped in a painting it a book for Taurus sister. Personally, gem sun, I don’t like, and no way in my bedroom, don’t… Read more »

I would. Sun -Taurus Moon/Asc/Mars- Pisces. I’m starting to become a fan of surrealist art anyway. (Which Dali, the weirdest Taurus who ever lived, was.)
