Astro-Fertility

Filed in Horoscopes

Surreal art magical tower“…CAN astrology help a woman get pregnant? It is a question medical scientists, normally dismissive of star signs, are beginning to ask.

Among them are US fertility experts who will study the work of Nicola Smuts, a British-based astrologer who claims to have helped women conceive, even after IVF treatment had failed.

By using “pioneering and unique” astrological analysis, Ms Smuts claims to divine “lucky times” when women are most likely to conceive.

Despite initial scepticism, some former clients believe her approach has proved helpful….

Now researchers at Shady Grove Fertility, a chain of IVF clinics in the US, want to test her skills by providing her with the birth details of hundreds of their clients.

Ms Smuts will be asked to calculate the most promising dates for them to attempt conception, and the clinic will compare her predictions with records of whether or not the women get pregnant at the astrologically favoured times.

The study will start next year…”

This article in The Australian no doubt interested heaps of peeps.

I suspect that it’s actually a really old bit of astrological lore that she is using here.

Simply – and yes i am aware that many complex factors determine conception, am not a medical professional etc etc – you know how there is a monthly fertile phase that can be determined via various methods?

They say that there is a second highly fertile phase & that this is why often catches out those women who use the rhythm method of birth control but that if you harness it for conception, it’s really effective.

It’s when the Moon is at the same place she was at when you were born. It’s called your natal lunar angle and there is more on it here.

But note that it is the angle not the sign.

Eg; You might have Moon in Virgo but that is irrelevant (was going to insert Virgo joke here about but decided not to) as what we are looking at is the angle. Were you born on a Full Moon, New Moon etc.Β  If it was an exact Full Moon than your Moon will be exactly 180 degrees from the Sun. So when it is exactly there again, there is your natal lunar angle.

You could actually time it right down the to exact second if you had an exact birthtime…And i think this is what the woman above is doing…It’s ancient.

And any astrologer can generate a list of your natal lunar angles for the year ahead or whatevs (it’s easy, but fiddly) or you can d.i.y. with a bit of ingenuity…

It will be fascinating to see how the study pans out…Yes?

Scorpio Mother put me off having babies.
Smothered me WHEN she was around-sent money when not!
Then there is the discrepency between size of babies’ heads
& my muff. The read it was like trying to s… a watermelon.
The figured enough peeps in world & if wasn’t going to give
birth to a saviour…forget it. Think a father is a necessity as well?

OMG Pegs, same here!
Scorpio mum had me freaking with that same watermelon analogy.
She didn’t smother me though, what with her multi-scorp intensity and an Aries moon, she just imploded and became completely ..invisible. Poor thing! She’s doing better these days.

Well, naturally we hope our kids will be saviours of some sort, it would be too neurotypical not to imagine that, lol! Kids were a good thing in my case though. It really took me by surprise actually.

If both my daughter’s Sagg Moons indicate my parenting to them, then I’m happy as their Moons conjunct my Jupiter. It’s been quite fun and zany, unconventional most times, but my Cap Moon, always at the ready to be a sensible mother also. I like that slant as well. Decided I’m going to take up yoga and make some changes in routine. In doing so, and looking at various videos on youtube, came across “May It Be” by Enya. Loved it when I heard it in the theatre with Lord of the Rings. Read the lyrics today and now an… Read more »

Along current bovinity lines, Enya a Taurus with Gemini Moon. Time of birth unknown, but Sun trine Cap Saturn. She structured all that Taurean/Venusian beauty through Saturn.

Know that not everyone likes her but I think she’s divine.

And no wonder so engrossed with her music today as current Taurean Moon conjunct my Venus 11th, opposite Scorp Vertex, Neptune 5th…trine Pisces MC.

Feeling like there is not enough time in the day for all the prayers needed for this world, but what I feel in my heart will suffice, just for now, today. It’s all I can do. x

Beautiful Sweet P!

Speaking of moons… I had a dream about two moons last night! 😯

Along with the morning star, Venus is also known as the evening star.

“May it be an evening star
Shines down upon you”

But two Moons….Last time I saw more than one moon was many years ago when I’d drank too much rum at the beach!

Being Gemini, do you think it had someting to do with the dual nature of Gem and something going on there? If we stick with Venus & current Moon, Taurean Moon ruled by Venus of course, then She is sextile your Gem placements currently. Just a stab in the dark….

Sweetpea

Libran Venus ~trine~ your Gem placements, not sextile. But with double Moon, maybe double love, I’m thinking?

yep, its called the Jonas Method and there’s a website if you google it. I’ve been taking note of this supposedly second chance at conception and find it hard to believe. I have ovulation pain to the extent that I sometimes need to take a painkiller (or use Sedona method/meditation) so its unmistakable when I’m fertile. I was born on a gibbous moon and only when my menstrual cycle is in sync with the lunar cycle (and its been the reverse for about 2 years although starting to realign) does an egg pop with the gibbous moon. Never two eggs… Read more »

Interested to hear an explanation if your perceived conflict between astronomy and astrology Artunin. My thinking is that one is a mathematical/physical science study and the other a more humanities/psych study of the same things? Complementary rather than contradictory?

Well hello Artunin, so glad you didn’t mind my translation.
I like poetry but it’s nice to hear that you have a point of view on astrology too, y’know? Like shell am curious about your astro conflict. Please do share.. Also what’s Artunin mean?

Parenting moony question.. So apparently your own moon suggest the kind of parenting you have received and the kind of parenting you will also give, right? Well, I take offense at my no.2 son’s moon in that case. He has his moon in Aqua, so therefore I should show up in his chart as distant and cold as an influence. My Moon is in Scorpio – the sign of smother mother. Yet my own mother was invisible, another Scorpio trait to be sure (she is multi scorp). Am going in the wrong direction with this? (Son No.2 has sun/venus conj.… Read more »

I think the moon is a huge influence over how we parent, more so than the sun sign. Every lunar cancerian I know (and I know quite a few) are particularly excellent parents and seem to have an innate connection, patience and understanding towards children that makes my mind boggle. Being an actual cancerian I feel somewhat inadequate by comparison. But hello I have saggo moon – I’m sorry but I just can’t get excited about “oh he blinked!” or “oh she did a solid poo” … like freakin yay. I’d prefer to rumble about with kids in the jungle… Read more »

Hey prowln, I read with interest about Juniper and your reaction to parenting!! I think having a child at 23 would have been pretty intense. I know I would not have been in the least ready, moon, venus and all the planets aligned in cancer or not. Hub has Moon in Cancer, he is very good, but he’s not up all night bottle feeding baby or anything! I think he thinks good parenting may involve a cane, but I have some strong thoughts on that… Def agree on the fact that we all have our limitations… I think I am… Read more »

Im sure mystic did a parenting moon post not long ago. I think she said your moon could be linked to your parenting, but they were alll positive attributes if I remember correctly- can’t remember scorp. But mine is aqua and I think she said something about the child being educated in matters of the new age variety – eccentric (or something like that). I looked it up not long ago for someone, just put mothering moon in MM search bar. I remember wondering what moon mum would wear those shoes with a pram, or even had time to dress… Read more »

Yes, I was thinking of the parenting moon thing, but I was wondering about how looking at a person’s moon describes the parenting they received more than anything… Then I discovered something cool on cafe astrology about House Overlays, which helped me with the question. In case, like me you don’t know about it, read this: http://www.cafeastrology.com/synastry_house_overlays.html No. 2’s son hits my 8th house, so he inspires plutonic issues for me emotionally, while my moon shines on his 1st house, making for a fun and energy in an ego forming way. Thankyou. I have found atrso very helpful of late and in particular with parenting a modern child post seperation. She has in the last year done her first quater turn on the Saturn clock and her Adult teeth are more dominant and some of her friends are growing too fast. And mystic, I am very intersted in the outcome of this study. I’m certainly not au fait with astrology (like some scarily informed people on this site!) but I have a deep belief that planets with all of their gravitational pull have an affect on us as humans, our weather and how our earth reacts in volatile times (volcanoes, earthquakes, etc). I hope the science expands beyond the human study. There are so many scientific ‘facts’ that link to animal behaviour – why not us? And surely the planets have some sort of effect as well? Oh Pisces in CQ the above story is circa 1995-1996. I was about …. 23?? Now 39 with a daughter who is nearly 15 and has started “dating” … eek *shudder*

Sorry to say that when people ask me “oh c’mon would you do it allllllll again??” … my emphatic answer is FUQ OFF NO FREAKIN WAY.

Mind you I find her rather wonderous and far wiser than me at her age. Good thing that whilst her Toro dad was truculent and difficult, he’s ever loving with her which gladdens my heart.

“And the third quarter Moon is important because it brings an opportunity to heal β€” to β€œget over it.”

Says after the “full Moon”, the party’s over…

At a time, Leo tarot lady had told me “it’s time to leave the party” (meaning a relationship).

So, so interesting.

That’s very sweet. My Gem daugther had once been pregnant with twins, and Leo tarot lady (before my daughter knew she was pregnant) had told her ‘there are two souls around you’.

Yes, astrology has practical applications that can be scientifically tested in valid study designs if the researcher understands what is being researched. So often, academics undertake research into astrology without understanding the complexity of this discipline. They can often design a study to test astrology whidh shows only that they do not understand how to test the principle they are challenging. I head a research grants body which seeks to encourage co-operation between astrologers and academics in order to ensure that research into astrology is properly thought through and apropriately designed so that, at least, any conclusions drawn from such… Read more »
