Longevity Secrets Of The Super-Naff

macaroni cheese beautifully presented

Let’s look at the combo of a Cancerian Dark Moon and any weather whatsoever that could even vaguely be described as sub-optimal. We are talking macaroni cheese and red wine. I’m calling it. This is the Macaroni Cheese Moon. Ideal for whether you are transitioning into Spring or Autumn. As for the wheat/dairy/potential fat-bomb issues, when it’s the Dark Moon in Kataka, few of us give a fuq. It’s all about the comfort food/childhood faves vibe.

OHhhhhh c’mon Dammo … do the Aqua thing and float/vibe above it. So someone had a vent – does it mean they don’t “like” you? I dunno, how can you not “like” someone on a blog whom you’ve never met? Perhaps they just don’t dig how you express yourself which is fine – can’t please all the peeps all of the time – and in fact who’d want to? I mean there’s got to be a point where you stand in your own truth regardless of external opinions. Constant compromising just leads to a wishy-washy personality. And for every 1… Read more »

I forgot – my gran always used to make skate and parsley sauce with mashed spuds when we went to her place for lunch. She had a tiny kitchen, and I used to love squeezing into the kitchen table, she had a lovely, little silver cruet with vinegar, salt and pepper, and her cooking was lovely. Big sigh …. I love comfort food and if I’m feeling down, I’ll cook smoked cod, parsley sauce and, of course, mashed spuds. I loved being at my grandparents’ house because I knew for sure they loved me.

Someone here posted about Missy Higgins (can’t find it now and quite anal of my Cappy Moon (in a good way ๐Ÿ˜‰ )but I put/indicated the words “two posts” on my grocery list this afternoon so I would not forget to look up Marguerite Montez and Missy..)..

Never the less, I’ve heard the song “Where I Stand” by Missy on the radio here and it’s a great song.

Thanks..x

And you know, over the years, I’ve noticed that English or Aussie singers sound American when they sing, accent wise. Has anyone ever noticed that and why is that? What is it about singing words that makes a difference?

And as far as “Where I Stand”, totally resonated with it the first time I heard it.

Ms.

we have a lot of american tv and cultural influence here. unsure why Uk, maybe same deal. we are very accustom to american accent being normal in the home and many american bands.

Libraquarius

Yes, I remember when I was in the UK for 2 years seeing a programme about what well-known women were eating and it was PATHETIC. Crap food in minute quantities, just so they could buy into the “skinny” myth. I felt hungry hearing them talk about the bits and pieces they shoved in their gob each day, and they looked so miserable. Soul food is called that because it’s, well, soul food. And it’s fabulous, like the chicken noodle soup below. I’m planning sometime this week to make chicken soup with barley, beans and vegies. Am drooling already.

Kale is a staple of the southern diet, except it’s often slow cooked with salt pork or as a substitute, bacon or turkey bacon – never beef. The saltiness of the meat contrasts well with the sturdy leaves, which retain their chewiness even after a good amount of time on the stove. Along with collards, mustard and turnip leaves, these are what is generally referred to as “greens”. fallen angel, you are indeed a fabulous and knowledgeable cook! We raw-ies eat our greens in juice and blended into smoothies, where the cellulose is broken down and the nutrients are released for easy assimilation. Does what the long, slow cooking of greens does, but with more nutrient retention.

Raw food is yummy, too, just like ‘regular’ food!

fallen angel
fallen angel

I will have to seriously try it that way Arien. Though I’ve had little success with drinking my food thus far.

I suppose the other thing is that food carries such emotional context as well. I’m often surprised when dishing up steaming plates of food at the sudden retelling of childhood food stories by friends, triggered by the sight or smell.

Still, I think trying something completely off one’s usual grid is fantastic and be wonderfully inspirational to one’s own repertoire.

Raw food is considered a healing diet, can’t argue with the stats there! Long term is more uncertain. After 8-10 years all raw, some people are finding they need to add small amounts of meat/dairy to their diets. Cooked whole grains and sweet potatoes are not uncommon on high raw diets. While some do well all raw over many decades, the majority will find the health/beauty benefits adequate on a high raw diet. Greens are the most important to add to your diet for health improvements.

I don’t think it was her diet to blame 100%. Just because she doesn’t eat dairy doesn’t mean her bones will weaken necessarily. Countries that eat a lot of dairy have just as high osteoporosis. The docs put her on Vitamin D supplements. She is pale as the underbelly of a cave dwelling worm so if she’s not getting D from food or from sunlight, supplements it is! Also she doesn’t do much weight bearing exercise.

I take 7,000 iu’s of vitamin D/day. It’s that or 15 mins with no sunscreen and even tho I live in one of the sunniest places on earth, right now it’s too hot to even go to the pool! (Can you believe there are “pool coolers” because even the pool water can get too warm?)

The vit D tho is good for one’s mental and emo disposition too. Someone told me to try it for a month and I think it’s working!

@unpredictable pisces (My replies bounce around and not necessesarily come out where I want them!) Raw kale is v nutritious but is perhaps not the best food to talk about taste-wise. That’s why I eat it in kale crisps. I get the chips/crisps satisfaction, while making my skin look good. Raw food tastes good! Raw chocolate truffles -yum! The flavors are vibrant and feeling so energetic becomes addictive. Good Goddess, Medusa I JUST COOKED a big honking glass tray of the stuff and fed it to the Double Libra. Who promptly fell into a food coma. Granted yes, mine has smoked provolone, gouda & cheddar, lashed in a creamy hand whipped bechamel sauce and toasted to golden cheesy peaks whilst the sweet tomato & capsicum rosemary turkey peeked slyly under glistening elbow macaroni. After a terribly miscommunicated day of scheduling mishaps and plans gone haywire, it seemed to make things just right. He smiled slowly like I’d just brought him back home, it seemed fitting after a solid… Read more »

Oh FA you’re still around. I thought of you the other day. As usual your description (of the menu ๐Ÿ™‚ ) is spell casting in itself x

FA is a Kataka Anville. Perhaps this Moon smoked her out (meaning she showed up here and told us her menu!)

AND, her rising is Virgo. Is your MC Gemini too FA? Because we were talking on another thread about how those signatures can make the best writers. You’ve always described things so beautifully.

Amazing memory Sweetpea, yes and yes. Virgo Rising, MC Gemini, Merc in Gemini in the 10th house as well. How lovely of you to say.

Well Lexicorn has that too and so does my daughter. I thoroughly enjoy reading her (Gem daughter’s) cooking blog. She has Mercury and Venus in Kataka which adds to “the flavor” so to speak.

Hello, sweetness.. why thank you. I’ve just been awol due to well, life and some intense zappage. Oh, and unfortunately grappling with some serious Sewerage Post Trauma. Some of my friends cook but I’m likely the one who does a dinner for a few of them every week. Sometimes more. I like my food to be unfussy and fallen on, and relish the pleasure of seeing people’s faces as they anticipate the meal before them. There is something in the act of being cooked for and served that provides some kind of healing. I avoid the ego of it and… Read more »

I so agree and it sounds like your Mother was very caring (I know she is passed as my Mother is too). Having Kataka daughter and boyfriend here Sunday. She said we could go out but I’m going to make some middle eastern food (my kids were raised on it). Just would be so much nicer and besides I don’t get to do it often.

I love that you do that for your friends, and I love that your mother did it for you and you remember it so fondly…touches my heart…lovely memories..

Isn’t it funny that the simplest things mums make are the best? Specially when you know they made it just for you? My Mum was a notorious midnight snacker, some days in our house it was a party in the kitchen till 2am.

I NEEEED that recipe Fallen darling! Happily chomped a delightful wedge of the Tassie Brie with the crackers and fig paste this arvo. Am now polishing off a huge bowl of noodles with garlic, ginger, soya sauce, sweet chilli sauce, sesame oil and seeds topped with fresh corriander. This probably doesn’t sound as comforting as the macaroni cheese but there is something so life affirming about fresh spices and bok choy. The garlic and tarragon roast chook has been postponed due to stormy weather call-outs. Half the state seems to be flood and trees are falling over onto cars, houses,… Read more »

Oooh those noodles sound fantastic.. you know what else is good? Super quick stir fried bok choy & bean sprouts topped with marinated seared lemon pepper beef filet strips. Mouth watering. Actually..I don’t use recipes a lot but it’s fairly simple, I cook the turkey separately, it’s sauteed with half a vidalia onion, capsicums, rosemary, chopped tomatoes & garlic. I like it to be slightly sweet so I add a dash of balsamic vinegar and half a tsp of raw brown sugar. Pepper & salt as you will. The noodles I mix with a bechamel sauce, I use heavy cream… Read more »

I’ve got a friend who sings Joni MItchell beautifully. She looks the part too, her names Marguerite Montez, she used to sing in the Cool Creek Cafe, in Bellingen. Blubbing’s fine Sweetpea.
