Suddenly Vegan: thanks to Saturn?

Filed in ASTROLOGY

Bill Clinton Explains Himself

“…I went on essentially a plant-based diet,” Mr Clinton told CNN yesterday. “I live on beans, legumes, vegetables, fruit. I drink a protein supplement every morning. No dairy. I drink almond milk mixed in with fruit and protein powder, so I get the protein in when I start the day out.” Mr Clinton, 64, said the diet changed his whole metabolism and he has gone back to what he weighed in high school…”

The fresh physique of the twice-Saturn-Return seasoned ex-President of the USA is getting loads of rave reviews – massive weight loss etc – but less attention is being given to how he has basically gone VEGAN.  And he’s a good ol boy for sure.  We have already looked at which Sun Sign is most likely to be veggo or vegan (disclosure: i am insanely vegetarian but find vegan so difficult) but what sort of transit turns a person such as Mr Clinton vegan?

As a politician from the Deep South of the USA, imagine how many rancher’s union or beefsteak lobbyists functions he’s had to attend to service the agriconomy, even before he became powerful.

He’s a classic example of a Leo (He and President Obama are two of only three Leo Presidents of the USA ever) but Clinton’s main astro-signature is that he is stunningly multiple conjunct Libra.  He’s got Mars, Neptune, Venus, Chiron and Jupiter all rising in Libra. Hence the immense and well-testified to charm, diplomatic skills and love of beauty.

Saturn is now going over all of his Libra and Pluto is squaring it as well: his chart is set OFF by the Zap Zone next year – he should do something sensational along with the Uranus-Pluto square.

Former boxer Mike Tyson is another unexpected candidate for the Vegan cause and he went Vegan when Saturn opposed his natal Saturn in Pisces recently…at the same time that Pluto was squaring it. Radical, life-altering diets and other changes of the most basic regime of your life (eating aka sustenance) are very Saturn-Pluto.  And then the personal changes radiate outwards.

Mike Tyson with pigeon

* Have you ever pulled off a sudden dietary change that altered everything radically and brilliantly? And if so, what planetary transit did it coincide with? Saturn Return is a v.common time for such spectacular life-quakes.

* What do you think of the Powerful Male Archetypes Going Vegan syndrome…fad? Or new paradigm?  Astrologically, the timing suggests that it is just the beginning of a whole new era. True.

well i’ve been having a rough time from saturn & pluto, and it’s shown up for me very physically, but i have to admit that previously there’s been no difference. perhaps what’s best for a pluto-mars transit is to cultivate an indian palate – spices, chickpeas and little dairy… i have no intention of giving up chocolate though 😉

What was happening planetarily-speaking in January of 2009 til about June ’09? I went on a life-altering candida diet, no gluten, dairy, or sugar and found it pretty easy to stick to. It wasn’t ultimately sustainable for me though, as it was quite expensive with the accompanying supplements and weekly treatments. I looked and felt fabulous on it though.

Mm, had a green smoothie last night and a banana smoothie in my porridge this morning, pretty good! I don’t think I would go all green smoothie, but I can see how this is a great addition to my diet.

Saturn, eh?
The day I went ‘cold turkey’ vegetarian, t.Saturn was conj n.Chiron… in progressions, t.Saturn was conj the p.MC, square the p.ASC. (saturn rules my h6).
But..
t.Neptune in Aquarius was conj n.Mercury, which I really felt at the time, quite idealistic and sensitive…Neptune rules my h9, so there was an element of ‘new ideals’ that just kept flooding my mind. And have not slipped in 11 yrs, I’m so completely comfy in my decision.

reading about powerful male archetypes going vegan gives me GOOSEBUMPS. Not in a creepy way but in a “this is something new and real and exciting’ way. Men shunning traditional expectations of manliness [in diet at least]. I’ve had a few diet changes over the years but most recently – I have simply started eating less! I have not needed to distract myself from wanting to eat more – I just know what is a comfortable amount of food to eat without feeling stuffed. It’s like I have laid down food boundaries for myself, partially motivated by saving money, part… Read more »

Yep, I pulled off a huge transform… Uranus had just entered my 6th house and I got hugely into raw & living foods… went from a size 20 to a size 6 in only 7 months, without “dieting”, just from doing the 85-99% “raw” thing and lots of live green smoothies.

I may be about to make another big change… can feel the Saturn conjunct Libra vibe right now. Different motivating energy, but moving me forward into another radical shift. Am loving the Saturn-Libra vibe right now…

Wow! Love your beautiful transformation story, samina. You don’t just get a new physique, you get a whole new life on these diets. Thanks for being an inspiration!

Thanks, ArienScorp! It’s so true… those living foods really do give you new life. Amazing stuff… still bowls me over today when I got a spat without them and then jack it up again really high. Doing that now after a break. It’s wonderful!

Went Veg in 1993. I’ve run my chart for that time but have no idea if any of the aspects are relevant or not: Neptune Conjuct Uranus and Oposite Mercury All Square my natal Uranus and Mars, and Opp my Sun Saturn was also Square my MC And yes I’m still Veg. Went Raw for a while a few years ago, but can’t remember exactly when. Have also been through a couple of Juicing phases, but also not sure exactly when. Always felt and looked amazing while doing it but it takes so much time and I work constantly so… Read more »

Pluto opposite natal Saturn, and Pluto transitting natal Jupiter in the 10th and I feel like I’m comfortably becoming Bodiccea. Food and exercise are a part of this. Growing into maximum potential, efficiency, no B.S. responsible, high aiming, solid-gutsy, built for purpose not for pretense self. (uranus is also last degreees of transitting my first house, so this is helping self image things radicalise) Eating poorly out of “comfort ” or “boredom” has always posed a threat to my health but am sloughing off crap habits now as they just slow down the me who wants to do stuff and… Read more »

Totally agree with all that, very well written though. Basically my philsophy on food is that, I take note of how I feel and then think about what I have put in my body recently and what exercise I have done. Eat crap – skin dull and bumpy stomach bloated etc. Heaps good food , small treats – feel great look glowy – hair shiny, skin clear and healthy – happy happy. Yet those comfort foods can feel so grounding dam it!!

This is an interesting read! Have gone sugar free, gluten free, dairy free when my baby was born earlier in the year – though not atm. (Interesting how only NOW are lactation consultants admitting that cow milk proteins do transfer to the baby through mother’s milk. Like duh!). Was vegetarian for a few years, but one day, a happy looking chinese BBQ pork bun winked at me from a shop window…it was all over after that. Very interested in organics and I eat some foods exclusively organic – mainly chicken, broccoli, strawberries, potatoes, garlic and milk – or not at… Read more »

Got turned off red meat for a few years at the age of 21. Eventully found Fit for Life and really benefitted from the principles and the exposure to new foods. Nowadays I eat fresh food nearly all the time, with very little junk, packaged or high fat food. I do eat red meat, chicken or fish, probably every second day, and I enjoy that too.

I had one back in 2008 when I found out I had celiac disease and consequently had to change my whole diet. Just looked at my chart for back then, hopefully I’m doing this right. So I had Saturn in Virgo but I also had a lot in Aquarius in my 7th house. I had Mercury, Venus, Chiron, Neptune, Lilith ast. and Neptune all there.
It changed me amazingly, I became more positive, put on some weight and was able to get into pilates and walking!

This little leo’s a strict vegetatian, and lax vegan. sinful dairy comes in the form of freddo frogs and caramello koalas from the night owl next door to my work. . . . dunno what was transiting or whatever when I went vegetarian in around 2003, but it coincided with several significant life changes. . . again, when I went vegan in 2005/6. . . but I’m not sure of the dates. . . must’ve been something major. I’ve been more vegetarian than vegan since January this year, though I still have an aversion to eggs. . . made someone… Read more »

I quit poultry for good after my first pet chicken died in 2005. It was so hard to lose a pet and then I thought of the millions of birds who don’t get love, room to move, no one mourns them when they die. Ugh! I quit going anywhere near KFC, Maccas, etc, that served animals bred in factories. Just watched a Pam Anderson video on what KFC does to their chickens when they’re alive. Don’t watch it. Yep love the tag “the lazy vegetarian”guess I have been that for 22 years until this year. Made a couple of changes recently – I actually have muscle tone now – never had that. Also good skin – never had that either, but that is prob from the herbs /zinc/other forgotten stuff I’ve been taking.

I would howl through a video like that, can’t even watch the animal nature docs my daughter likes.

thanks for this post and reminder of when I have gone on detox benders…. i love them, planning one for the end of the year, but, I think im ready to start NOW… not sure what transits were going on with the last cleanse in dec 2007, but that was the best cleanse so far… called arise and shine. Definitely my saturn return back in 2001 was a major transformation year as far as changing lifestyle and increasing good healthy habits into my life.

Oh no…I was just going to sleep coz it’s very late here and I think I’m being incoherent in the comments, and now I’m zapped into wide-awakeness wondering what things you might say about veganism. prowlncat

ha! … umm no genius here. Eccentric thinking perhaps. 🙂 I could probably write a thesis on this subject … but that would be dull. So to summarise, overly focusing on the “correctness” of “what is eaten” is just another fear based ideological human construct that has absolutely no meaning or utility in nature whatsoever. Applying overarching moral values to food is well meaning I guess, but inherently says more about the moral guilt of the eatee rather than ultimate objective truth and still buys into fear based living. Eating anything takes a life. I see no difference between plants… Read more »

Oh ok..not really veganism, I-righteous attitudes. Ya, I agree on that. Totally fear-based with a need for others to validate the fear so as not to have to deal with it. Yes, I also agree we are presently disconnected. This is how I see Uranus in Aries and then Pluto later in Aqua playing out. Top down paradigms are out, and it is Power to the People. Oh….Powerful Male Archetypes Going Vegan. It’s either that or get and look old. Beauty and vitality are a form of power. To remain powerful, you gotta eat your veggies.

Interesting to hear the astro supports these types of changes. People who are deeply into it feel their entire vibe/energy structure change as a result. They become different, not just physically, but spiritually. I believe we are headed into a new era. We will see the world differently, and we will live it differently. Spritual equality male/female and human/nature.

I became a vegetarian at 12, when I had my first Jupiter return.

Jac

I also went Vego at 12 (Jupiter return) and am to this day, joyfully. However, when Saturn was in Leo (My Ascendant) and Pluto was In Sag (My Sun), my eating became so spartan and so entangled with my psyche that I developed anorexia, to the point of hospitilisation. In my thirties no less. The hospitilisation coincided with the Saturn Pluto square of late 2006, and I must say the hardest but most liberating experience of my life.

Rache, go see a naturopath! I saw Clinton on telly, he said he was inspired to change his diet because he’s had bypass surgery and research shows that post-bypass patients survive longer on this diet – and he has the possibility of grandkids now. As to the timing? Dunno. I think it’s great he’s spoken openly about it. As a nutritionist, it’s common sense and easy to assume it’s common knowledge. I’m not necessarily promoting veganism; it takes a lot of knowledge and food prep to eat a balanced vegan diet. But vego? Have been for years. Sometimes I start… Read more »

Go to a natropath or herbalist. I did a herbal detox and it did wonders for my long term health issues. Also try to do things that make you happy. Happiness is definately the most powerful medicine. Ditching wheat and oats really helped me with fluid retention, fatigue and a bit more weight loss.
Best of luck – keep trying until you find something that helps 🙂

I agree with Hippychic and the naturopath recommendation.

I also recommend getting a basic enzyme supplement and taking one or two before each meal. Might be kind of nasty in the bathroom for a couple of days, but should help IBS, etc. Digestive enzyme supps are fantastic. A high powered enzyme formula did wonders for my daughter when she was 2 and non-verbal/autistic.

I think there’s less stigma about what it means to be a “real” man. Men have more freedom now to explore their masculinity in whatever way they choose.

He went vegan cos it wasn’t kosher? Ok, ok bad joke. But seriously, good for him. American presidents (can’t really speak for other nations) rapidly age while holding office, why when he was going through the entire Monica thing the man had hips when he was photographed jogging. Barack himself is going silver as we speak. I think the best thing out of this is that it’s a great example from an ex-pres for people to look up to, the man gave us the non-inhalation excuse and an adulterous scandal, so this is a nice change and a great message… Read more »

I’m a nearly-vegan (eat fish sometimes, but have no problem staying away from the eggs and dairy). Started in.. 2002. Not sure what was going on… I think Pluto was crossing my ascendant, but that might have been a little after. Will check and get back. 🙂

Haha… I’m a Pluto in Scorp generation veggie, with Mars, Mercury, and Sun in Scorp as well. Lots of my female Pluto in Scorp friends are also vegetarians.

It’s a political thing for most of my generation, I think. It’s not really about health or saving animals so much as it’s about protesting America’s nasty and environmentally unsustainable meat industry.

For instance, when I am older and have the money to buy family-farm raised meat, I probably will. Unfortunately, my mom refuses to buy anything other than the Tyson jumbo bag of chicken breasts. Yuck.

Also try a Neti Pot. People tend to cringe/shudder/scream when I say that, but after years of gentle suggestion, my whole family uses one religiously now.
