Are All Virgoans Book Addicts?

Karl Lagerfeld in his library

Wow, how i LOVE Karl Lagerfeld’s library!

Do you know, i have never ever met a Virgo who was not a voracious reader and super-erudite.

I am not saying that other signs are not but Virgos specialize in it.

Not-The-Typical-Virgo is always sadly stunned when she is reminded that i have not read that year’s Booker Prize winner. She reads them all, because one must.

One of her other friends is married to a Greek Virgo barman – he’s in Athens and he has no ambitions other than to read. He works at the bar and the rest of the time reads at every available opportunity. Due to his enormous consumption of a massive range of literature, he can converse enthusiastically with practically anyone in the world and on more or less any subject.

Does this fit your experience of Virgos? Or do you think it more characteristic of another sign? Geminis read heaps too but i don’t think their attention span is so strong as our Virgo. And a Gemini will fling the book across the room at the first hint of tedium or repetition but most Virgos will plough through to the end, no?

And is it a good or a hideous thing to have a list of must-read books, such as that year’s prizewinners?

While we are here: Kindle and all that – yes or no?  And do you think there is one person whose only task in the world is to dust and maintain K.L’s books? I think there is.

i’ve got virgo in mercury. so even tho my sun is in leo & ascendant and moon are in cap, i’m going to take mystic’s statement that virgos are voracious readers and apply it to me. because i luuuurrrve reading. ever since i learned how to around age 4. and i agree that i’m likely to plough through a book no matter how ‘boring.’ for instance, james joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is the most challenging book i’ve tried to read in recent months and i kept ploughing through it. the only reason i stopped… Read more »

Yep – book addict here. It’s only the challenging cash flow that’s stopped me from booking. The lists of books to get grow ever longer…

Books; lists – can it get any Virgo-er than that? 😆

as kid I was also a voracious (love that word) reader, hiding under blankets with a torch or locking self in bathroom to finish a book, ignoring parental barks re get to sleep, lost in the story du jour – reading way above my age group I’d read every agatha Christie detective novel by circa 5th grade & then dived simultaneously into pulp (harold robbins, jacquline Suzanne, Jacky Collins entail) & the convent school curriculum classics (Bronte et al). That library is terrible for the books’ spines. And hard to get the books out without creating a small avalanche. But I am loving the spiral staircase, grey lounges and coffee table.

I am a random reader, I usually have an old favourite fiction and something erudite on the go. I detest self help books, I find it impossible to use bookmarks and I’m against folding pages. Which means I’m also guilty destroying the spines of books also, as they lay open, face down on my bedside table.

I was guilty of throwing books at my sister through most of my childhood and adolescence.

That library is totally lustful. I dream of more book shelves. Kindle is my most desired object right now..want want. I think it’s a revolution and I love books. No more finding multiple copies of the Da Vinci code in 2nd hand stores..imagine the savings in cheap paper! A Virgo friend can walk to walk, navigate traffic while deeply reading latest fantasy book. Very skillful. Just got latest batch of books from Amazon yesterday including MFK Fisher’s The ARt of EAting (which I read about here) only took 2 weeks when they said a month.. Another revolution! I love books so much I read every single comment properly here! I read fast and furiously, but not so widely these days as I am time deprived. No tv growing up, so reading was the only option. Remember being shocked going to a friend’s place as a kid – “Where are all the books?!”. When I was living in the ‘middle of nowhere’ for a number of years I was getting starved for books. I really coveted them like they were food! Even an English conversation was hard to come by some days. One backpacker passing by had a… Read more »

Andromeda, the blog here is my daily morning paper
read to wake up to with a coffee.
Would say most of us here love to read & write, which is why we’re
here.
Senior Husky found home i presume as didn’t hear back to state otherwise.
Twas a knee jerk reaction from my pet passing. Shall stop reading the Dog
Section of the weekend papers.
Same for me with books left behind by backpackers whilst doing o/s.

Where is your Mercury Pegasus? Mine is in Cancer (also Venus, Saturn) in the 2nd house. But I do have Mars in Virgo. I don’t know many Virgos who are obsessive about reading… Glad Husky found a home.
Me too re the daily paper being the blog! So much more civilised and truthful than that muck they call the newspaperk imho.

Merc in Sagg….many book on philosophy & world religions along
with sci-fi & fantasy, so true to type i guess. Same Virgoan Mars as
you Myst & Iscorpbot that i remember from here.
Also tend to exagerate or expand things when telling stories to put
the point across….that would be a Jupiter trait?
Merc in Cancer would like to read what? Ancient history?

Love the links & suggested reading by friends here.

Yes indeed, I keep list of ‘must-reads/buys’ by the comp.

Ditto the philosophy and religious books (MC/Jup Pisces + NN/Nep Sag) and right on the money with Ancient History. Ha ha, BA majored in Classical History! Tendency to exaggerate just poetic licence, no need to feel that it is bombastic but good story-telling?

I love books (stellium Virgo) but I think my stellium Taurus wife is a much bigger book lover than I. She reads voraciously and is totally in love with the fact that my mum bought her a Kindle last Christmas so that she can easily get new books if she finishes one and is away from the shops.

I keep a few books on shelves but often give them away to other people who will enjoy them. My darling Taurean wife keeps all her books.

One of the other comments said Virgos don’t have the patience for books – there may be something in this as I certainly don’t have the patience for films, and never watch them. But I adore books – all reading matter actually, but especially novels. I learnt to read before I can remember – I could certainly read fluently when I started school – and was probably at my most voracious through my childhood years. We lived in a village that was visited by a mobile library once a week. I’d find an author I liked and work my way… Read more »

Virgo sun and I am almost worried about my habit of fiction devouring. I have barely dropped a book before picking up another like a chain smoker. I can’t even remember the next week which books I have read, though they do tend to linger in the unconscious realms. It all feels very basic and primal, like it’s an actual NEED to be absorbing the written word. The only time I lessen my rate of intake is during trips overseas. Perhaps the daily life thing is just too boring without an adjunct into another world.

Mercury in Virgo here and reading became my life when I was 6 years old and began an encyclopedia on the Solar System. (Quickly designating Jupiter to be my best friend.) I think you can also tell an awful lot about people based on their bookshelves, it’s always where I begin to to form my thoughts on them.

applepieskies

I would also agree that Aquas are the biggest readers, a lot of Virgos are hit or miss when it comes to reading. They may also be the most wide-spread readers, absorbing absolutely everything. Or perhaps that’s a Scorp influence.

It’s important to read absolutely everything, I think. Or else, like the world of thoughts and ideas, you can get too boxed in. Adventures in reading are key!

Lagerfeld is so reptilian! He’s definitely from the house of Slytherin … on the other hand I love books. Not my cup of tea in terms of storage. Too self conscious. Like he’s expecting someone to come down that awkward stair case to interview him at any moment. I’m searching for a new bedroom theme at the moment and have decided that plush Moroccan tent is what I want to go for – chocolates, creams, audacious ruby, magenta and orange with funky textures and fiddly bits.

That bit about deeply understanding the information, that reminds me – like Luscious Leo says, Mercury holds a key to one’s predelictions for reading. But I think that not only is the sign Mercury is in is important, but whether it’s retrograde or not. Those with Mercury retrograde tend to be the more serious readers?

I’m surrounded by Virgoans in my circle: friends, partners, bosses. Not one of them has been an avid reader, they don’t seem to have had the patience for it. I am an avid reader – Cancer/Sagg asc/Aqua moon. I have fiction and non-fiction on the go, subscribe to about 10 magazines and the daily newspaper. I am also an editor (of educational materials).
