An Alternative Dark Matter Theory

Lady Cosmos black and white art

“…The theory of Dark Matter tells us as much about the modern unconscious as about the cosmos. Jung noticed that whatever we suppress gathers in the unconscious and throws a ‘shadow’ over the world. Dark Matter is precisely the shadow of the imaginative fullness we have denied to our cosmos. The daimons we cannot bring ourselves to admit return as dark ‘virtual particles’. Like the psychological shadow, Dark Matter’s massive invisible presence exerts an unconscious influence on the conscious universe. It even threatens to slow down the expansion of the universe, to stop it and then contract it in an apocalyptic counterpart to the big bang – the Big Crunch. Here is a myth which rehearses the inflated ego’s primordial fear of the unconscious that will drag it back down and like the dark destructive Mother, devour it…”

From The Philosophers’ Secret Fire by Patrick Harpur.

I think Mystic one savvy chick. Prowlin’ was talking on the “Here we Go Again” thread yesterday about how things are interconnected, spiritually and so forth and then Mystic did this topic.

You cool baby.

Closest black hole known to mankind is the belly button. Dark matter in there.

My question about this understanding of the subconscious/unconscious is this: if we have suppressed or repressed something, isn’t there by definition an element of awareness implicit in this? If we are busy suppressing/repressing something is not this some form of activity that we have consciously committed and so are aware of to a greater or lesser degree? It’s like always remembering not to remember a particular thing or person, or to put it another way, trying to forget that same person or thing. It’s for this reason that I have always found the concept of a subconscious or unconscious in… Read more »

“If I suppress or repress something it doesn’t necessarily just leave my waking mind that easily. I have never found my thoughts and desires to be so compliant as to leave my awareness when I wish them to without some additional form of ‘mental effort’.” Thats a good point Jen. Then there are also the memories of the Soul that exist on inner levels that have to be healed for self realization to happen. Enligthenment for example is a psychological process of healing and releasing the illusions in the subconscious and we can indeed meet those circumstances here in three… Read more »

I agree Sweetpea that there is something akin to the ‘collective unconscious’ that Jung speaks about. I’m not sure that we are born with these memories as such though. I believe what it is more an indication of the universality of human experience. We instinctively recognise the emotional dramas in certain archetypal situations not because we have a ‘memory’ of them, but because we are human and this creates an invisible thread between all of us. Socialisation is how we are taught to express this ‘solidarity’ between fellow human beings (some are taught/learn this better easier/better than others). We all… Read more »

I totally honor your view. Thank you for sharing it.

Self introspection is always a good start. Not fun like you say but more often than not, required.

yeah i’m with you on the collective unconscious Jen, guess i’m thinking of dark matter not so much as actively repressed as actively avoided, as in the things we engage in but don’t want to look at or acknowledge or change, the blind spots we have, the manipulative behaviors, the commonplace cruelties that we engage in as part of maintaining our individual and collective self images and comfort zones. wheeew !! … or is it just me hahahah !! Attention is such a selective thing, and has to be, on an individual level one can only focus on a few… Read more »

and totally off thread, but way lighter (than dark matter, i hope) i was wondering if it was the looming toro full moon that just had this toro cooking raspberry friands. i haven’t cooked any sort of cake in years!

has anybody else been suddenly moved to bake?

Yes! Not friands but a proper baked dinner with trimmings suddenly seemed like a good idea. But is the Moon in Taurus already? Fingers crossed that dark matter is something divine, not as boring as quarks. I got lost at subatomic particles. Have they admitted the wrong about quarks yet?

no, tls, moon not in taurus yet, but in the scopes mystic sez this full moon has a wide orbit.

baked dinner with trimmings, yum!

but everything seems to feel lighter and happier suddenly and resolutions happening to lots of peeps i know, nice, its like sloughing off sticky creepy sludgy turgid stuff and feeling suddenly quick moving, sleek and clean again! clarity abounds!

and … the GC represents our common universal dark psych matter ?… its a very interesting way to look at it … i have mars conj GC so have always wondered about that

but then … so what , i mean the light/dark known/unknown , these dichotomies are ummm well instrinsic yeah ?? So as soon as we discover something and it moves from dark unknown into the light, well then something else gets forgotten or lost instead ?? to keep the balance ?

Please, not another apocalypse. Interestingly, though, the theory of dark matter has many correspondences with the forces of yin in Chinese cosmology. Yin and yang cannot exist independently and whenever one reaches an extreme, it flips over into the other. So it’s interesting that as the world becomes more yang, (overheated, concerned with superficial reality), more is discovered about the dark unknown forces of the universe. Yin yang find ways to balance each other. Some will probably read that as another impending apocalypse but frankly I find all that unknown rather exciting. The physicist, Brian Cox from CERN, admitted the… Read more »

Not sure if I would say dark matter is the imaginative fullness we have “denied to our cosmos” as our imaginative fullness does manifest on other levels we just aren’t ~consciously~ aware of. I would not call that denying “our cosmos” unless he means this particular realm. The daimons we cannot bring ourselves to admit and that return, sound like thought forms made from energy substance clothed in emotions that then turn demon like, etc. “Dark Matter’s massive invisble presence exerts an unconscious influence on the conscious universe. ” Sounds like the astral realm to me and was told this… Read more »

Interesting how the inflated ego has this fear as the more removed it seemingly (to it) becomes from it’s source, the more seperated it feels.

Yet the conscious ego rises up from and because of the underlying levels of consciousness or what it would consider “unconscious”. Seth states that the unconcious is in no way “unconscious” at all. Would probably relieve alot of fears if more understood this.

“”the unconcious is in no way “unconscious” at all.””

Facinating, so as in the unconcious is another veil of that logic?

Personally I find Carlos Castaneda writing enlightning on the subject, like a metaphor of an island, as a table containing all the items. the items that are not on the table are simply not there and can not be explained as being on the table.

Goenka (Vipassana Meditation) says that the unconscious is actually ‘on’ 24/7 aware of all the body systems, and is completely conscious of every pain, feeling etc. He says it is what we call the ‘conscious’ that is mostly unaware and flitting about unfocused. He believes the only way to peace is training the subconscious to react with calm, or rather, not react to stimuli at all. I don’t know what this means in terms of dark matter actually! My husband thinks trying to turn dark matter into a Jungian concept is to misunderstand the beauty of the physical universe entirely.… Read more »
