Regret Is An Appalling Waste Of Energy

Filed in LIBRA

Modern Art Woman with leaves and flowers for hair

“Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you can’t build on it; it is good only for wallowing in.”

Katherine Mansfield

SHE was Libra with her Libran Sun conjunct Uranus (free-thinker, ahead of her time) and a lovely great big gallumping Mars in Saggo Rising + Venus-Mercury in Scorpio… Which if it were being expressed freely, would want to regenerate and could not stand to stagnate. That’s just f.y.i.

But is there an astro-signature for regret or not giving a damn?  I always think the Mutables (Gemini, Virgo, Sagg & Pisces) are the LEAST inclined to it – purely because they like to keep things chugging along + they’re kind of amoral, with the poss exception of our Virgo.

And yes I know it was the Saggo Edith Piaf who sang Non, je ne regrette rien (No, i regret nothing) but it always seems like it’s such a lie. Or is that the point?

I’m thinking that a heavy Saturn placement would incline one toward regret?  Hands up who agrees with Katherine Mansfield?

I think there’s a difference between regret and remorse and believe remorse has far more potential for personal growth. Am with the no regrets crew on this one don’t see the point to me it’s like a brick you drag round behind you – dead weight. Remorse – yes I feel it deeply – scorpio moon makes sure of that. I have saturn in the tenth which is apparently a hard placement but I think Gemini ascendant may lift that so it’s not so ponderous and rigid. And also crazy synchronicity – I was immediately “online” with KM when we… Read more »

The ability to reflect and to be cognizent of regret allows one to learn compassion.

Think Saturn is indeed strongly figured in this task/lesson.

Pisces rising, Kataka sun with saggo moon here says regret seems to be embedded in Kataka d.n.a. but secretly suspect my bassackwardsness has more to do with Saturn in Gem, 4th house, aye? ( No more taking care of anyone, no regrets, no discussion, thank you, next? North node in Cap 11th house 😉 Thankfully for Saggo moon, can clearly see that regrets are vestigial as my appendix….now what does an appendix do? (anyone..please? 😉 And curious if this Gem placement give hints to this knack for distracting self away from sad said carousel of low-quality drama (regret)? Idears? Thanks!!

My Saturn is peregrine in the fifth house and I have loads of regrets. I can regret things I’ve done when I was 8 although now I’m better at LETTING IT GO.

Yep, regret is pointless. Things happen for a reason and we need to learn from mistakes & move on. But sometimes doubts are difficult to get rid of. Gemini sun, aries moon, venus in taurus (love regrets are the ones that stick), leo rising.

I definitely agree with mutables not having regrets. I certainly don’t. All of my mistakes, my stumbles, have taught me something. Why regret a learning experience?!

Heeey, go easy on the Caps; they’re only looking out for your best interests! Perhaps you only want it because you don’t have it? 😛 Aaah… how romantic… 😉
Yes yes I’m a Cap rising. Saturn 1st house. Heavy cardinal, with only Mars in a mutable sign. Full of regret. Large tenancy to live in the past. Or idealize it anyway. I have Neptune conjunct my ascendant which I think adds to it.

Hmmmmmm, I have a Kataka sun, as well as my Mercury and Venus, and I am very prone to regrets. “I should of done this! What if it was different?” Argh, emotional Kataka on the loose!

a leo friend asked obscurely me a while ago if it was okay for an adult to have regrets – or something similar – I obscurely responded that I think that having regrets is part of becoming an adult.
I agree with the useful tool for becoming a better person perspective. But also that you need to let them go

not many regrets, though i sometimes wonder what may have been if some decisions were made differently. I was the classic aries in my youth (possibly still am in my middle years, cough, cough) so never really thought about not doing stuff, just did everything to the max, took every opportunity, got off the beaten track, tried everything, pushed myself forward for any hairy adventure that was on offer. From a young age there was a voice in my head saying ” if you don’t try it now you’ll regret it later ” and I always listened to that voice.… Read more »

Me = Pisces sun, taurus ascendant, sagg moon.

My theory is that in each moment we have the complete choice to influence or to create a situation. If we are responsible for the moments we find our selves in, then how ever could we regret doing anything???

i also agree with postmod scorp and others , i have some big regrets. I regret that as a 12 year old i didn’t realise that a woman was getting beaten, maybe worse in the flat above my dad’s one night. i regret that he was too weak to interfere, saying it ‘wasn’t his business’ (obviously not something i was responsible for, i understand). I wasn’t old enough to realise what was going on but i knew it was not good. I wish i knew how to find her so i could tell her how i felt, how I still… Read more »

i’ve got moon in cap which is probably way prone to melancholy. saturn in 3rd house (forms a fire trine with venus aries, and neptune sagg). i don’t know if that’s a heavy placement. It’s opposite mars in my 8th. hmm

Hey Unpredicatble Pisces, I feel your pain and I so hope you can let it go. Can you write it all done, say you are truly sorry and then burn it and let the winds just carry it up to the trees. It is what it is, it happened and I am sure you have made amends a hundred times over. Let it go and dont let it torment you any more dear heart. xx

To regret is part of letting go/processing things/people/whatever. sometimes, at least.
Apart from that process, it is a waste of energy.

Virgo Sun/ Venus + Libra Saturn Opp. AC, conjunct Mercury + Pluto.

PS I think strong Saturn (I count my placement as strong) makes you think more before acting “amorally”, thus less to regret later on…

Thank heavens for YOU. I was wondering whether my regret was too shallow and it IS but now i feel emboldend to venture forth. I absolutely understand. Are you still friends with the Cap? My only regret is sort of ephemeral – i mean, i have deeper things i feel SAD about – but i feel regret that when i was charging about in mini skirts, young and happy in love with different boys every week that i didn’t apprecite it more. i was eaten up by self doubt even though i was GORGEOUS and often trying to fake being… Read more »

I still have a snakeskin mini, well above the knees, not micro, and every time I wear it someone compliments me. It’s amazing what tiny peeps can get away with fashion-wise. But I’m careful what I wear with it.

Woa, you go girl : > I can just imagine you strutting your stuff! I would have loved a snakesskin mini and even though I am 165cm I was too self conscious to wear minis as my Mum brainwashed me re being ladylike etc! Sigh! Yes! I regreet listening for the sake of peace and sanity!

Regrets, I have but ONE! I was 22 years old, newly arrived in London & trawling Camden Markets on a groovy Sunday afternoon. I tried on the perfect worlds only pair of vintage dusty-pink suede knee boots-I was wearing denim cut-offs & leggings at the time, I do believe I drew a crowd as it was an exalted Leo moment. Next thing, my Cappy buddy totally does a number on my revelry & tells me this is not a sensible purchase for the travel-savvy…& I sadly walked away without my dusty-pink loves. I do believe we were meant to be… Read more »

Starstroked, I so identify with you, for me of the Sagg Sun, Scorp Rising, Gemini Moon, the only regret’s I have EVER had was whenever I have listened to Capricorns who have stopped me from doing”wild things-according to them!” They have stopped me from buying some gorgeous unique items. One blouse in Paris I still lament after. The funny thing is in the past i used to only fall for Cap guys and they succeeded in pulling the breaks on me. My Cap sis and my Cap dad are both gorgeous but oh so sensible and find my antics challenging.… Read more »

Multiples i find are very optomistic.. maybe its just becoz i am one myself and nearly all of my friends are similar, but i do think that there is some truth in this. I mean shouldnt we “feel the fear and do it anyway”??? I personally regret barely anything – i think that everything happens for a reason so? Some Mistakes are TOO MUCH FUN to only make once. Take chances. Tell the truth. Date someone totally wrong for you. Say no. Spend all your cash! Fall in love. Get to know someone random. Be random. Say I love you.… Read more »

Does it perhaps depend on how good you feel about your current situation? I like where I am, so see everything’s that happened in the past as part of how I got here and therefore quite positive. More generally I tend to see myself as a lucky person for whom things turn out well, not sure where that comes from.

Sun Scorp; Libra Asc; Gemini moon.

fishgirl and postmodscorp raise an interesting point: regretting *not* doing something, letting an opportunity slide, ignoring an inner truth. That’s scary. But as so few of us are enlightened gurus, it’s going to happen. I know I’m not always nice or evolved or tidy or brave or genuine (oh my, i’m not perfect) but as long as I grok the experience (thanks for expanding my vocab, Mystic) then I know deep within that, all moral judgement aside, I did the ‘right’ thing and can mark another twist along my path.

Sagg Sun, Aries Moon, Pisces Rising.

Never do “what ifs” and rarely indulge regret. My big thing is that if you regret soemthing then use it to change your life now and if you’re not going to change whatever it is that is so regrettable, then just forge ahead. Like guilt, it is totally wasted energy otherwise.

I guess remorse is when you regret something and are driven to change.

I had no idea Katherine Mansfield was a Libra with Uranus conjunct her sun. Mercury in Scorp too. Another weird thing we have in common. I ought to get a peek at her chart.

Past regrets and their keenly felt emotional remembrances can be a good tool for some thoughtful decision making of what’s on the horizon. A little wallow never hurt anyone every now & then makes one human.

I regret things – esp if they cause pain to others unintentionally – less common now that I am able to express myself more clearly. I also regret things done under the influence of alcohol – which is why I have so drastically changed my attitude and actions around that drug. Regret however is usually couple with embarrassment. I HATE feeling embarrassed by my actions…. so am much more circumspect. The other thing I regret is when I’ve not acted or done something because of a (usually) self imposed block – ie ‘not enough money’ or ‘thats too hard’. So… Read more »

The only thing I ever regret is times when I’ve not followed / second-guessed my intuition. But it’s actually counter to everything we are taught in this logic + economics based society so it’s actually quite difficult to remain intuition-based. So I cut myself some slack…

Remorse, useful. Regret, pointless.

Katherine Mansfield has it right. We all screw up. If we didn’t we wouldn’t be human. Regret to me means not learning from a mistake or unfortunate choice. To feel remorseful about making a poor choice is useful for making future choices, but to feel regret, as in wish you’d never done something is a bit of a dead end. It implies a lack of forgiveness and it’s like wishing you were perfect, rather than aspiring to perfection.

How’s that for a Virgo response? We’re the queens of splitting hairs.

I try to banish the past but try to learn from past actions and have few regrets. Past mistakes give me something to laugh at. If I can’t immediately remedy a situation, I let it go. I don’t dwell on other’s mistakes or misdeeds either, but I may file it away under ‘signals to watch out for’ so’s not to let it arise again. My saturn is conj mars in cancer square jupiter in libra. Watered down planets square jupiter/expansion? executes Gallic shrug.

I agree with Aello. Pisces sun, Taurus rising, Aries moon. I have certainly done things which I think are foolish, impulsive, or perhaps unintentionally hurtful to other people (or myself) but the regret would only be in not learning from those experiences, not the actual experiences themselves. Oh so deep for a Monday morning…

Aello

Yes, my hand is up. And I agree with you too Mystic regarding the Mutables. I’m Gem with Pisces rising and although I briefly indulge my dish-rag limp Saturn in Cancer after being a bit naughty or impulsive, I regret nothing. Nothing. In the long run anyway. Good or bad, experience is experience and that’s how one learns all the best lessons.
