The Hour Of The Snake

Filed in Inspiration

Luxury Designer Snake RingIn Chinese Astrology, the time between 9am and 11am is always the Hour Of The Snake. No matter where you are.  The Snake is probably the most ancient and original ‘familiar’ of the Goddess & is linked with most of them – Lilith too.  (If you are interested in Lilith, the original “Whore” of the Madona-Whore Complex, see my e-book Bitchcraft on the Shop page.)

The Medusa of myth was originally a Persian Snake Goddess, whose name meant ‘sovereign female wisdom.’  Nearly all cultures have bigtime Snake legends – from Adam & Eve to the Aboriginal & African Rainbow Serpent.

The Snake symbolises wisdom, desire, eternity, regeneration and charm/glamour in the most magical senses of those words.

Snakes have long been symbols of healing. Three medical symbols involving snakes that are still used today are Bowl of Hygieia, symbolizing pharmacy, and the Caduceus and Rod of Asclepius, which are symbols denoting medicine in general.

This link has some really interesting stuff re snake medical symbolism and also mercury http:www.drblayney.com/Asclepius.html

Snakes are in nearly every religion and or culture considered evil or in some way tainted – the celtics are the opposite!
ancient rome and greece were very awestricken by snakes yet did not embrace them the way the egyptians did. ???

The ancient Egyptian goddess Renenutet often appeared in the form of a hooded cobra.

My Chinese rising is the Snake as born at 10:20 a.m.

In natal, Medusa is 10 degrees, Sun 11, POF 12, SN 13. I rather fancy that set up and as well as conjunct they are parallel by declination.

Instead of going into a whole long thing about how I was born a feminist (who didn’t know it)…but a feminist in the sense of the word of equal rights for all, this astro signature was very helpful to me as it assisted in beating up the Iranians (males..)…LOL…

When my sadge left to run off with bovine I packed his belongings in boxes…..as you do…and heard when they unpacked one box it had a snake in it!
It made me feel oddly satisfied.

I hope you’re Freudian insticts are right davidl cos that’s just what I’m after – that and the wisdom and regeneration Barristagem mentions… I had an amazing dream last night about an undead rattlesnake pendant that came alive and bit/cut my fingers with it’s fangs causing me to go into an altered state of consciousness in the jewelry shop where I was trying to locate the owner of the pendant. Dreams are amazing, linking so many levels of being. I’ve been ‘on the prowl’ for a few weeks now and earlier that night I consecrated two pendants and I think… Read more »

I’ve got a necklace with a pendant of the ol’ Minoan Snake Goddess. I’ve always fancied it for some reason and people frequently comment when I wear it.

also St Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland is really his converting the island to Christianity, the snake representing paganism. The Adam and Eve myth is symbolically telling of the switch from matriarchal religion to patriarchal.

Not sure if I agree with that totally. The tree is often described as the tree of knowledge, with pagans and gnostics claiming the serpent offered this knowledge to eve. In fact the tree mentioned is the tree of ‘knowledge of good and evil’. The story hence relates more to our splitting from being unaware of good and evil (non judgemental) to our current state of dualism. Some would say this knowledge or judgement of good and evil is the root cause of all problems in the world.

Knowledge isn’t knowledge without the balance. Wouldn’t you rather have the ability to discern than remain in so called blissful ignorance? Good and evil are so intangible that it’s a life quest to discern the difference and I’m delighted that they ate of the fruit or had their first intercourse, verbal or non, whatever, because life would be so apathetic without. The getting of wisdom never stops from birth to death and beyond

davidl
davidl

No, blissful ignorance without judgement anytime..wisdom had nothing to do with it, the tree that is. It wasn’t the tree of wisdom it was the tree of duality.
All the horrors committed in this world are based on judgement of our fellow beings..and whether they are good or bad is an unnecessary and subjective knowledge.

cheshire cap

give me a break….”tree of duality”……tree of Knowledge!…knowledge is naturally dualistic because various knowings can contradict others…the tree represented the ability to differentiate between good and evil and make choices. What one sees as good another might see as evil and with text we all have a personal exegesis or indoctrination.

I get david on this point. Isn’t there the old tale about the guy who has a son who find a horse good falls off breaks a leg bad can’t therefore go to war good and it goes on and all the old guy says is we shall see…

That’s what the original Medusa represented – knowledge, the shattering of the illusions of life. She represented past, present, and future. By gazing into her eyes, legend has it, one would turn into stone, however looked at metaphorically, one’s mind freezes because by looking into her eyes, one would see one’s own death and the meaninglessness of one’s life. The Adam and Eve myth and even the Greek myth demonized Medusa, or this wise snake creature, and by doing so shifted away from matriarchal religion to patriarchal. This feminine wisdom personified was a threat to male power, and so, in… Read more »

So does that mean any ‘snakes’ will feel peppy between those hours? I am one and normally do feel pretty energised during that time of a.m. but then start to get weary before my next feed at lunch time :))
