Saturnine Lessons

Filed in Astro-Passages

Modern Floral ArtOh happy days of Saturn in Virgo.

Leaving aside some of the more trad malefic angles, let’s just roll with the concept of Saturn as Great Teacher for a nano. And of course, Saturn in Virgo is particularly preachy. The current phase of Saturn has been going on (and on and on) since September 21 2008. And we get into a new Saturnine lesson in mid-August. But for  now, have a think re what you have learned, the real-life wisdom you have won hard and  how you have evolved since that last September.

Seriously, work it out. I guarantee it is way more than you’d imagine at first – but you have probably been too busy doing all the slog figuring things out & battling away to think about  how far you’ve come. Like – this is a hoary old Saturn metaphor, I know – when you are climbing a mountain or a huge hill and don’t notice how high you’ve got as you are too busy pushing yourself.

Jupiter ( the groovier teacher) is stationing retro this weekend & any planet is always more powerful at this point so it’s a good moment to actually warmly & benevolently assess the progress made between last Sept & now. Track it & be amazed…And if you are currently flippo over the non-stop Saturn-lesson, clock-watching et al, think of the New Moon in Leo on August 20 as  your spectacular breakaway moment.

Seabird – Yes, agree with you! Since March things have been feeling weird, and I’ve been in a limbo. Don’t know what transits to hone it down to…other than Saturn Return shenanigans of course.

But definately, since March rings true with me too.

Harumph.

Saturn in the 5th has made me take my creative talents seriously, apply discipline and focus to projects (unheard of in the past, when i would just wait for the muse to strike), and has- since Saturn turned direct in May- awarded me unprecedented success professionally. definitely have the feeling of hard work (blood sweat and many tears) paying off. also has made me get very REAL re: having kids and whether the relationship and other lifestyle things in my life were helping me get to where i want to be, or not. brute realism is the only way to… Read more »

Wahoo just went to PO Box got the mail and this seems saturnine – few months ago took insurance company to the Ombudsman complaining about their shady acts of bureaucracy. It was the principle of the thing and the subsequent lies – they told outright untruths to cover their arses due to mistakes they had made in the first place. Saturnine influences def helped me to organise our case so I was pretty sure we had proven it beyond a doubt. WE WON. Ombudsman ordered them to pay us some $ and is now investigating them & their processes. The… Read more »

I like ‘strangeland’, Barbara. I think i live there at the moment. is anyone else feeling the weirdness since about March? Everything feels to be in constant flux, but not in a scary way. It’s like watching a benign roulette wheel and i don’t know where to place my bets.

Since september – Moved self and daughter to a new country (end of sept) Was given a man who was like a repeat of previous mistakes, except he WASN’T. Said man (now married to his cousin, poor love, but still in love with me) showed me what it’s like to be looked after and helped in practical ways after years of being warrior woman, listened to all my crap and told me none of it was my fault and that I would be alright and he would make sure of it, allowed me to let go of previous mistakes, and… Read more »

I’ve actually had the strange inclination to start painting. I’m not an artist by any means. I love art and consider myself very creative. But I feel drawn to do it, even though I am not sure I can. Strange… I think “Strangeland” might be the theme for the next few months…

I feel a little more like Alice in Wonderland going from “Shattered Illusions” to “Strangeland…”

You could use the Saturn energy by taking some painting classes. Saturn is all about discipline, stucture, focus, responsibility, contraction, time and getting your shit together. Taking some lessons could help crystallize your urge to paint, or unlock other possibilities.

Very very true Ubs..

Was just having that convo w/my daughter 2nite as she has had trans. Saturn on the Ac and Ur in the 7th.

Four months ago she took off her engagement ring and told the bf that she needed to focus on school until June and could not be distracted by the whole marriage thing.

Told her that I feel she’s layed some very real and good foundations for her Saturn Return.

I am definitely dealing with those issues. And I like your advice! Thanks!

Thanks David, Yeah, I’ve been feeling the nostalgia and wanting to “go back to the way it used to be” and “the person I used to be.” I think that’s making me feel worse. I’m trying to resist it and look forward – realizing that what’s lost is gone and I can’t get it back. So, I have to accept the losses and move forward with what I have. I’ve having some trouble there. I would love to know what Saturn and I agreed on and I want to check and make sure that signature is really mine. LOL. It’s… Read more »

hey B.R – Saturn Return, like many similar returns, can feel as though yr head is just below the water line & every time you reach the surface someone puts their hand (foot?) on your head, you gasp air & under you go. You know – not your own control system. the quipy anecdote below was post scrip to an ENORMOUS body of work, many here are familiar with. one thing I can recommend, from experience, that totally assists self understanding or is simply another tool to devise one’s own next move avec expanded self understanding – is a consult… Read more »

Hi Rockstar! Thanks. For years, I was looked at as a leader and teacher (in the area of Goddess/Witchcraft). I ran several groups and classes. But I always wanted someone that I could look to for help with the deeper things in life – like a high priestess, teacher, guru or guide. I had no real luck in finding one, so I let it go. Since the start of my SR, I’ve tried starting new groups with no success. I tried, but they all flopped. I was shocked. But now that you got me thinking, maybe it’s not my turn… Read more »

I’m in my Saturn Return as well. My key words for the last 2-3 years are “Shattered Illusions.” Saturn shined light on a farce of a marriage/cheating husband (now ex), sexuality issues, chronic illnesses, false friends/family, career problems, bad spending habits, and self-delusions. And every time I create a new one to deal, it’s dashed. It’s been a big reality check and life clean up.

I’m at a down cycle right now, try to assimilate all these lessons. I’m having a hard time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Anyone else feeling the same way?

Sounds like there could be more going on than Saturn return. Do you know of other outer planet transits happening at present?

I suggest consulting a good astrologer. Mystic does skype consults. Mystic has also done some great posts about Saturn transits which you can find in a site search.

I agree with saggigal below, and I reckon in a year or two, you’ll look back and be glad you did the work. Saturn certainly toughens you up if you get some tips on how to handle it.

Thanks Uber Virgo! I’m not really experienced with transits. I know basic astrology but that’s about it. I will take your advice. Thanks again!

The last part is possibly a little harder, cause there’s sadness and nostalgia, all those things that have been stripped are gone or going now, your might feel a little emotionally ‘naked’. The feelings of being alone are real, no one else knows how you and saturn sorted this on the day you were born, where you wanted to be ? Saturn is just keeping her part of the bargain. It gets a lot better, cause now your able to make creative decisions with your life, go in directions that you would never have thought possible before. Saturn will be… Read more »

Hi BarbaraRyan

Yip, also in my Saturn Return and going through a real down cycle at the moment. Losing hope and battling to get anything going.

I thought Saturn going direct would be great, but this last final phase of my Saturn Return is very depressing.

Anyway, I KNOW things will get better (they have to!), so just wanted to say you’re not alone!

BarbaraRyan
BarbaraRyan

Hi Lark,
Thanks for your comment, It’s good to know I am not alone and that others are feeling the same way. It seemed like everything was calming down and with Saturn direct – it was like “Pow! You’re not done yet!”

saggigal

hi barbara, i also had a very shitty and quite devastating saturn return – nicely precluded by a decade of pluto in sag ripping the guts out of everything remotely inauthentic in my life. i can offer my heartfelt empathy- the dark times that saturn can bring can be very bleak. but you sound like you have been certainly ‘doing the work’ and from my understanding of saturn, it offers amazing rewards when you manage to tackle whatever obstacle is placed in front of you. and saturn, when worked with, gives one enormous strength to face down whatever crappy reality… Read more »

I agree with saggigal barbara – the rewards are sometimes not apparent immediately but for what it’s worth I think you’re brave to face all that in quick succession. Not to diminish the enormity of your challenges by being all dib dib and stiff upper lip about it – but hopefully you can take heart that the more there is now the less there should be left over to deal with later. It’s like some kind of crap parent thing where they force you to eat something because it’s good for you.

BarbaraRyan
BarbaraRyan

Hi Whatever!
Ha! I like your analogy. I’ve been kind of hard on myself. I’ve tried to be stiff upper-lipped about everything. I’ve tried to battle through, with only will alone sometimes. But that’s an illusion too.

I think I deserve a good decade of peace and calm! LOL.

BarbaraRyan
BarbaraRyan

Thanks Saggigirl! I feel like I’ve faced trial after trial and it gets tiring after a while. I’m trying to keep a flame of hope that better times lay ahead. Right now it’s tiny, but it’s keeping me going.

Maybe I should look at this time as an opportunity to totally new. I still hoping for some guidance as to my “second destiny.”

Once this work is done – I should shine like the crown jewels! LOL.

September 07 or 08 Mystic? Saturn has been transiting my third house for what seems like years (my third house cusp being in mid Leo and my IC at 23 Virgo) coming close to Pluto and IC, but mostly just teaching me MENTAL DISCIPLINE. And Oh Boy did I need to be taught. well, I’ve been teaching myself anyway… not to mention learning to keep my mouth shut when it counts, and to ‘be impeccable with my word’ vis a vis the Four Agreements. I reckon I’m a better communicator now, but clearly Saturn isn’t done with me on account… Read more »

Saturn was all over my natal jupiter in the 3rd so my experiences were mostly about work and study. Work – have been able to focus on it to the detriment of all else! and have made great progress and done good work throughout the period – plan to enter some of the work into awards. Feel good about it – don’t give a shit if that sounds up myself LOL. Study – done some good research and writing and achieved grade point average of high distinction while working full time – that left me gobsmacked I didn’t believe it… Read more »

O and weird thing – since saturn moved off jupiter sometime in last weekish my spine has gone wacky in ways it never has before – and i have not even injured my self to cause wackiness! It’s just gone haywire of it’s own accord. And fillings fell out last week too. Obviously not ideal but I am seeing the funny side – and realising I just have to deal with it in a grown up way and then it will go away.

Classic Saturn, whatever. Luckily I still have my bones and teeth, but saturn transits have coincided with the onset of arthritis. Great.

hmm I thought it was – like textbook deal with the details stuff just to make sure you’ve got the message and strangely enough the fillings went in at the beginning of the latest saturn shenanigans. O well off to the dentist I go… again.

I was grinding my teeth for one pass of Saturn over my sun. Never have in my life. I thought it was strange and afterwards discovered the few weeks of it exactly coincided with a close relative going off their psyche medication and pretty much spiralling into a bad state. When they started taking their pills again the grinding stopped.

O Uber are you familiar with feverfew ? – you can grow it or get convenient tablets and tinctures – I have had good experiences with it for mine – which is luckily mild. It also prevents migraines, stinks if you grow it because it’s a member of the pyrethrum/daisy family and is a good companion plant in the vege garden due to this. It’s a feisty little plant.

The arthritis is in my fingers, which get thrashed as I work with my hands. I’ve been using moxa, warming the affected joints with a stick. It’s helped hugely, but thanks for the tip on feverfew. I’ll look into it.

that grinding thing is kinda awesome when you look at it in a purely energetic way – like you’re totally hooked into the circuit board of your family?

Yes and I’d rather not be. Could be related to natal Saturn in the 4th. Chiron in the 4th too. Dunno. It’s not the first time I’ve developed symptoms when someone else is going through crap. They were doing it way tougher than I was though.

submitted two book chapters and a journal article,
moved house twice,

And STILL the to-do list rolls on!

Meh – I’m doing the Saturn return. Enough said. I trek off up a hill to Paddo and after a while work out I’ve damn near ascended Mt Warning, and am now off to scale the blipping Himalayas. Metaphorically of course. I’m getting there, slowly, I think….. What do I know? I feel like I’ve gone backwards with the whole 6th house stuff. But then I think “but I’ve managed to get my health sorted out in the last 6 months”. And that has been HUGE. I’ve detoxed, exercised, done a triathlon for hecks sake! I’m doing ok. Made redundant when Saturn was conjunct Pluto last Nov, so transformation of daily life was fairly radical went from working 4 days/week, travelling frequently etc, to stay at home Mum. Oh goodness have I climbed a mountain. Getting pretty close to the top (and pretty close to a break to reflect on all the lessons I trudged through on the way). I’m going to come good on my promise to write an ode to Saturn one of these days. Maybe in a Michael Dransfield style ala;

saturn

you taste wrong,
you upheave, cresting me heavily on a tumultuous sea
you isolate and desolate, dashing me against jagged rocks.
you are danger to man and woman; I am broken in your wake.
yours is the subtlest beauty, the light after your storm is clear and strong.

Gee whiz. Since last year the following has happened to me and I am still catching my breath:- september – got married, October – bought and moved house with my husband, was finally told at work the only way I was to gain more interesting work was to be a better typist. Perhaps I could write a thesis on Saturn since it’s been steamrolling hither and thither over four of my Virgo planets since Sep 07, and is currently smack between my Midheaven and Pluto. I’m wary of speaking of its lessons just yet, as it still has to pass over Pluto, then Uranus in Sep and I don’t want to say too much until the work is done. o plutonic I have no idea about the rings but maybe the hindu astrology sites and some kind of gemology google will find you an answer? Hindu astrologers prescribe gems for certain fingers in order to balance the energies of malefic planets in the natal chart. It’s fascinating – and with your yogic practice it may be an interesting tangent to look into.
