“It’s his heart I want! All those little girls with no education will not take it from me. I would not be so calm if I saw some pretty woman of the court or the capital trying to conquer it.”

“Her decision was made; she would defend herself without pity and without scruples. From now on her life would be, as she was to say, ‘a perpetual combat.’.  From Madame De Pompadour, Mistress of France.

Venus is in Aries, the sign of Mars and with Mars flamboyantly out of action.

How does Venus go in Aries?

Well, respect is a big deal, of course & the reading material is less likely to be some self-help book and more likely Sun Tzu’s Art Of War…especially Part Three: Attack By Stratagem.

Venus in Aries is the iron fist in the velvet glove, every single trick in the book employed to bring about the fulfilment of her desires & you are either with her or else you are against her.

Beauty-wise, Venus in Aries is about the power of the overtly sexual image. Nothing subtle. The strategy is shock and awe.  In settled relationships where a woman is not getting that much attention, Venus in Aries wreaks havoc. There is a need for not so much attention as worship.

High maintenance? You betcha. And it’s until the end of March which is when Venus will move on to plough the more tranquil fields of Taurus.

Night-Flowering Tuberose (Starflower) Under A Full Moon in Anya’s Garden

So I got sent these gorgeous scent samples from Anya of Anya’s Garden Perfumes.  She makes them all from her garden in Miami, Florida & they’re divine. She has the most brilliant astro-signature for a perfumier:  Sun, Venus and Neptune in Libra, all Rising.

“…One reasoning behind the concepts of StarFlower and MoonDance, and it’s a big reasoning, is that white flowers, typically those that look like stars, always bloom on the Full Moon. The gravitational and tidal pulls are the stimulus, I suppose. If you’re in a garden at night, the magic of the scent draws you in, and even if you squint your eyes, you can still see the white flowers, since they’re the only color flowers that are visible at night. under a bower of jasmine, next to the tuberose bed, it’s as if the stars fell out of the sky – and brought their fragrance to earth.

Also, tuberose’s scent is minimal during the day, becoming more intense at night, overwhelming, in fact.

Cool, yin-type scents are associated with the moon, and the mint opening note of MoonDance leads you down a cool, inward-looking path, with tender rose and chamomile. StarFlower is more fiery, and meant for nighttime wear in the winter, quite yang and sultry and carnal in the drydown. The flower that most looks like a star is the single flowered Tuberose, so that was the muse for both perfumes….”

The Aztecs called it Bone Flower and she was sacred to their Venus. Ancient Hindu peeps knew it as Night Mistress and in many cultures it is considered a powerful aphrodisiac. Tuberose keeps producing scent, even after it is picked, making it the main component of Hawaiian leis. Some say that inhaling the oil of Tuberose improves one’s capacity for emotional depth & the most common symbolism of it is “dangerous pleasures.”

Q: Now that the Moon is New again, is it the time for Depth Relationship Dialogue? Or whatever?

A: No. Mercury (communication) is still Retrograde. Mars (assertion, men, action) is Retrograde. Saturn (structure, mature adult reality) is Retrograde and Venus is Void. God, even a casual wink at an astronaut could be misunderstood.

HEY – Happy New Moon and a BONUS three month Alpha-Mystic Subscription for you (or gift for a friend) who comes up with the funniest/stupidest astrological explanation of what signs these astronauts, above, are and WHAT is happening between them.

Mad Art Jewellery – Post Modern Venus Crown

Still nothing, really, other than Mars Retrograde in Leo in Fire signs.

I miss the Fire.

And no matter how new-start-themed the New Moon, being in the shadow of an Eclipse still feels a tad intense, no?

So anyway, could a Po-Mo Venus Crown be the solution to retro-Mars-in-Leo shabby mane/merde hair days?

And the Sun is aligned with Venus btw.

Despite Eclipses, retrogrades & all, there is a fine of fresh inspiration and verve re love, sex, art, magic and glamour thrumming away…just waiting to be big news post-Eclipse etc.

Aphrodite – Sacred Earth Designs

Goddesses In Every Woman is a really interesting read, blending feminist philosophy with Jungian psych & mythology to essentially help women figure out which archetypes are strong within them. I was really only interested in the Aphrodite (aka Venus, Ishtar, Inanna etc) chapter but made myself read the rest & was SO shocked at the section on Vesta that i really don’t know if i can bring myself to blog about the asteroid again.

It was the bit about how Vestal Virgins in Ancient Rome were punished if they ’strayed’ – seriously awful stuff – there is a bit here.

I mean, really, is the asteroid that important?

Venus is advancing toward her conjunction with Pluto – they meet up this weekend & it’s a definite indicator of lusts/emotions brewing merrily away in the background. So first the Sun and then Venus meets up with Pluto & there is indeed some powerful juju going down. Many peeps are going to get a very interesting little bit of Christmas Biz coming their way.

There is a lovely cosmic line-up in Capricorn: The Sun, Mercury, Venus very soon, North Node and then along comes the Full Moon Eclipse in Kataka opposing next week. Paradigm shifts galore, especially in power-trippers & where the romantic status quo needs to be tweaked a.s.a.p.

For the next few days Venus hooks up with Weird Planetary Dudes Uranus & Neptune.

It’s totally too hard to do bourgeois loving. And boy, have you picked the wrong few days to do dinner with in-laws or dutiful shite.

Think of Uranus as more like Prometheus or Promethea and in harmony with Venusian values for a better grip on it.  Add the square to Magical Realist Neptune and well, your love life can be v.satisfyingly morphed between now and next week’s Full Moon. It may be morphed overtly (compleat with peeps tut-tutting) or simply a mental segue that is nonethless QUITE the thought-quake experience for you.

It could be something else Venusian -getting suddenly over a past romantic thing, a $$$ realisaton or a rad makeover. Dreams bring good love guidance and it’s no use trying to be conventional. Unless that’s  your form of rebellion because you’ve been an insane player all year or something.

Note also that Uranus is zapping out weirding-rays all OVER the place, a bit like Mercury Retrograde, only it’s more affecting love,  your nervous system and systems in general. Let your mind run free (excellent fantasizing vibe) but ground your body and run any planned communiques through a sanity-check or at least wait until you have sobered up before bashing the send button.

Venus is now in Scorpio, btw. Take careful note today as the Love-Goddess sextiles Pluto, stirring memories of Venusian-Plutonic shenanigans (hot, karmic, forbidden etc) from way back.

The next big Venus-Pluto aspect is at the end of the year – Venus meets Pluto in Capricorn and sparks a new cycle. But Nov is also a series of subtle  hints re the 2010 Venus in Scorpio extravaganza – Venus in Scorpio from September until January.

Venus has not been Retro in Scorp since late 2002.  It’s always a good one. DO avoid negative Venus-Plutonic carry on…stalkery, bitcherel and overly-intense emo. Perhaps think more in terms of elegant skin-shedding, so that may slither out of the discarded skins, all gleaming and perky again.

After the New Moon, Venus does a whole lot more of stuff – squaring Mars in Leo (always great for a good time, trining Uranus (surprise!) and squaring the Auspicious Aqua-Weirding…If you like your love life intense, bats, sexy and a bit power-trippy, this could be your sort of thing.  Ditto if you feel like things have been stuck for a bit. BUT don’t push thy luck THIS week = let the Saturn-Pluto Square do its thing…It’s not exactly romantic.

The Selby

Ines De La Fressange is a Leo and whenever i read of her, it seems like she has the perfect job description for a Leo: Model, Mother, Muse, Fashion Designer, French Icon, Socialiste, Heiress, Decorator, Photographer and Fashionista. And in this pic, okay I can’t tell, but I am thinking here is La Leo on her gorgeous creamy white staircase (she has Mercury, Venus + Mars in Virgo so one assumes the staircase gets repainted every couple of months, yes?) and that she is posing in front of other pics of her in full fabulousity throttle….
