It is the birthday of genius visionary Dada & surrealist photographer & painter Man Ray. You wouldn’t think ravingly Virgo to gaze at his work – he was Venus-Uranus in Libra (free  love indicator for sure) but the dude had Sun-Saturn in Virgo & was constantly invented. A camera was never, apparently, to his liking so he’d tweak the thing until it suited his exacting Virgoan tastes & thus did he come up with all the innovations he’s renowned for.  It’s interesting he did this pic called Pisces – Why Pisces?

Andre Breton, in The Surrealist Manifesto, wrote… “POISSON SOLUBLE, am I not the soluble fish, I was born under the sign of Pisces, and man is soluble in his thought! The flora and fauna of Surrealism are inadmissible.”

The Pisces pic above was one of several illustrating a surrealist poetry anthology by Paul Eluard:

Astro-Query: Whom Would You Have To Your Seance?

Let me clarify the query: You are having a Seance & have somehow managed to be assured of a top-notch guest list. The presence of ONE passed on A-lister is guaranteed…Whom would you choose???  Mine would be the surrealist writer & film director Luis Bunuel. His autobiography My Last Sigh is one of my all-time fave reads.

He was Sun Sign Pisces with Neptune Rising in Gemini. Neptune Rising or otherwise prominent is so often found in the charts of great & influential cinema luminaries. It is also the astro-signature of a mystical and artistic calling. His Mercury in Pisces squared Pluto in Gemini; hence ability & compulsion to go sex-death-occult muckraking in a way that revolutionised movies. Uranus, Jupiter and North Node conjunct in Saggo/6th House. So, 6th House being what you do for ‘a living’ and to serve society he was destined to innovate it somewhat. If one is gonna get all karma-goo-goo over this, his 12th House South Node would indicate a sage who had reincarnated with the specific purpose of advancing society. His Mars in Aquarius (more iconclasm) is conjunct the Midheaven (drive to fame) and trine Neptune (he liked to get out of it but productively so)…

In April 2011 Neptune crosses Luis Bunuel’s Midheaven and what’s the bet there will be some interesting secrets or new work of his discovered?

Dissing The Disbelievers

“I don’t believe in astrology. I’m a Sagittarius and we’re skeptical.” Arthur C Clarke.

I never get bored but an emotion close to it, i think, infuses me whenever I am faced with an old-school sceptic. It’s not that they haven’t the right to think/believe w.t.f. THEY want but they so often seem determined, smug & pass-agg-insistent on dialogue with me. My fave retaliation is the George Santayana quote that “skepticism is the chastity of the intellect” but rather than responding to that, they just sort of dirge on. I think it’s actually Taurus (men, soz) who are the most pompous about it. Aquarius too – they’re either super-logical & will cheerily crap on with all sorts of spurious shit or else they’ll try to out-weird one with a harmony-0f-the-spheres rant.

But just as I was about to launch forward on a dissing the disbelievers rant, i thought isn’t it fabulous that many of us live in a time when we can express all these things & share them openly? And how much would many of our ancestors (especially those who lived in darker times) would have ADORED modern freedom of speech, being able to bung up charts on the internet, sharing stories about Mugwort on one’s blog…And i felt amazingly grateful that it’s just the occasional dullard grumbling…”Surely, you cannot possibly believe in xyz…”

The weird thing is that I DON’T know how astrology works. And yes, I have read Cosmos & Psyche.

I just know that it DOES work and it seems to work better the more you do it. It works backwards, it works forwards, it works shallow (when Mars is on your Venus, you will meet hot guys sorta thing) and it works deep…a la Jungian astro et al. Or a Pluto transit. So if it works and it does, then how weird & intricate & MAGIC is our world? Our universe?

And it is all around us, so yes I believe in magic and then i get onto the Dark Matter situation. 90% of our universe is made up of this mysterious substance and scientists have no idea what it is. It sounds so satisfyingly witchy. I went through a stage a few years ago (when Neptune was on my Ascendent by transit) when I became obsessed with Dark Matter. Now I’ve calmed down but if I have had a few drinks & a skeptic is annoying me, i can download all my Dark Matter info (blended ad lib with some alchemy, surrealism, Ancient mythology and obviously astrology) into one Mercury-in-Aries rant enough to scare off any Skeptic.

Count Duckula: the Ultimate Aquarian Man?

Aphrodite help me, I am starting to actually like the Leo-Rising-Aquarian-Rugger-Stud. Even after i swore off Aquarian men…Anyway, I rescued this from the archives…

Oh how I love Count Duckula – his official job title was Dilettante but he was also a failed farmer & mountie.

“Powers/Abilities: All the traditional vampire powers. Additionally, Duckula could be revived even if destroyed by a means that would normally eliminate a vampire for ever. Castle Duckula could teleport itself and it’s occupants anywhere in the world instantaneously, though it would also automatically return home at dawn, Transylvanian time, whether the residents were back inside or not.

History: “Castle Duckula, home for many centuries to a dreadful dynasty of vicious vampire ducks the Counts of DUCKULA. Legend has it that these foul beings can be destroyed by a stake through the heart, or exposure to sunlight. This does not suffice, however, for they may be brought back to life by means of a secret rite, which can be performed once a century, when the moon is in the eighth house of Asparagus. The latest reincarnation did not run according to plan…”

He is an Aquarius!!!! Note: Cartoon characters birthdate always is their first appearance.
