Saturn transits

Imagine how weird and yet cool it would be to have your late teens turned into a movie...Joan Jett is played by Kristen Stewart in The Runaways, also starring Dakota Fanning…it looks so beautifully styled, all L.A. Glam Rock-Seventies Hair & an all-girl band banging around the place.

Joan Jett is still totally going for it (performing, sporting black leather trousers, attempting to break artistic boundaries etc)  & interestingly, this movie is coming out just as Saturn is right on her Virgo Sun.  The last time Saturn was her Sun was when the band was just breaking up in 1979. So eerie and apt…the way Saturn cycles work!

She’s Sun-Mercury-Venus-Pluto in Virgo with a feisty Uranus in Leo v.close by.

TME: It has been said that as a performer, you’re especially hard on yourself. Is this true?

JOAN JETT: Definitely. More so in the studio than live. On stage you just react to the moment, but I’m such a perfectionist. I’m a Virgo and I have a lot of Virgo in my chart. I expect to do things right the first time, every time — even when I know people should not expect ultimate perfection instantly from themselves. That just doesn’t happen. Say we’re recording a song and I’m doing a vocal. If I’m off key or hit one note slightly off, I don’t totally freak because I’m getting better about that. But I get really angry at myself. Realistically, you can only demand so much of yourself. I’m aware of that and I’m getting better about being more patient with myself.

AND, of course, she’s now got Uranus opposing her Virgo Sun: It’ll be fascinating to see where she takes this.

This is more or less what my bum is going to look like when my interminable Saturn transit is finally done with in a few months. It feels like it has been going on forever but is actually only a few months. Saturn transits feel all-work and no-play (because they ARE, lol) but Holy Aphrodite, they get results.

There is NO other transit that makes you crave rocket, exercise and the measuring of everything from waist dimensions to unnecessary bank fees. Imagine if we could put Saturn in a bottle. Who wants to design the label?

It has to have the benefits: “Perform squats and lunges with relish, love your greens, loathe crisps, look forward to budgeting” as well as the Saturn side-effects: “irritability, some loss of sense of humour, over-consciousness of time.”

Who else is Saturn transitting? Enough peeps to create a secret password-only section where we can gleefully crap on about our sexy spreadsheeting skills and how much sexier rocket is without any ghastly “gourmet” additives that only cost $ and precious kilojoules? Bona-fide Capricorns get a lifelong membership. Because they’re ALWAYS under the rays of Saturn.

Saturn is also – I think – why so many Capricorns are horny non-stop. It’s because sex is (often) free. And it burns kilojoules.

Remedios Varo

I’m feeling the wildest thing & it’s hard to put into words. But I think it’s the Chiron-Neptune weirding. The sensation is that everything is meant-to-be, that certain things happened for a reason, trusting one’s angels etc. See? My actual feeling is not so naff. Anyway, magic is all about.

Now, let’s do our major transits du jour.

If you are an Astro-Fiend, what is your major transit of the moment and how are you going with it?

If you’re not – here is a handy way to figure out at least something that is going on, just via your birthdate. That is, transits to the Sun.

If you’re an early born Libra, Cancer, Capricorn or Aries then you are having both Saturn & Pluto up your arse affecting you this year. By early-born, i mean Libras born in Sept, Caps born in December, Cancerians born in June and Arieans born in March. So you lot are like transformation city. Saturn alone is like stripping down your life scenario to the basics, restructuring the lot and with a particular emphasis on health & wealth. Pluto adds psychological oomph so you can see a lot of emo reasons behind your functioning. So depth psych AND you get your taxes/weight/crap habits/debt or whatevs into major order.

Born around the middle of Feb, May, November or August: Happy Neptune transit. If you guys are not so out of it all the time that you’re not getting it, your consciousness is being raised mega-high. This is powerful Shamanic & evolutionary energy…Other worlds, astral travel, meditation to the max, psychic OR you can be having Happy Hour down at the Hoochy-Koo Voodoo Bar with your married lover, having worn out every clairvoyant in town with your shrill desperation re when he/she/it is going to be free to honour your ‘destined’ love affair. Or maybe you’re whacked out on happy-weed, communing with your spirit guide from Atlantis.

Late Pisces, Virgo, Saggo and Gemini (born in the last week of their sign) are having a merry Uranus transit but still with a little bit of Saturn stuff to tidy up between now and August. So the total individuation and liberation that is the promise of a well-managed Uranian transit WILL be theirs if they can but do the Saturnine due diligence (see above re diets, health, budgeting, sanity, sleep, structure etc)in the meantime. Uranus is like your life, your terms and tolerances fall away. If you’ve got a talent or a true nature – out it comes. Tres emancipated and youthifying. Hell on moribund relationships. Even harder than a Pluto transit, in that respect. Boredom threshold drops way low. Peeps having a Uranus transit wake up and say something like “I’m sorry but did you just ask me what time I think I’ll be home tonight? Dude, I am OFF.”

If you’re NOT one of these b-days, it doesn’t mean you’re not having a major transit – these are just what I can figure out from transits to the Sun. But have a go figuring it out – you can also look them up via Astrodienst. The BIG ones – Saturn, Pluto, Uranus and Neptune will always be the astro-passages that you’re best off making your theme for the year.

This new Astro-Watch is so cool…Okay, it is called something different but it’s designed by Marc Newson and you can see the current positions of the planets, major stars & constellations in the middle of it.  But only in the Northern Hemisphere at this point. It seems to be P.O.A.

What someone SHOULD create is a watch that tells you your transits. So it doesn’t just beep to remind you of the time: A sombre chime alerts you to the fact that Saturn is now within one degree of opposing your Sun. A merry little dingle signifies the approach of Jupiter to your Venus. That would be sensational. And so you get this genius watch and program your birth deets in – voila.

Watches come under the rulership of Saturn (chronometers – Chronos is another name for Saturn – think also Crone etc etc) and how apt is it that Saturn in LIBRA – the sign of beauty – brings us this gorgeous new version of a tres Saturnine device?

Mervis Diamonds

Let’s contemplate our Libra for a nano…

* Sweet tooth?

* Love of Pink?

* Appreciates Expensive Gifts?

* Thinks cupcakes chic?

* Diamond is their birthstone?

* Needs things to be done ‘right’?

* Enjoys the smell of highly expensive icing?

* Currently has the shits as Saturn stationing Retro in Libra, sending out erratic guilting-rays of ‘get-thy-shit-together-now-or-your-end-is-nigh’ style crap that affect everyone a bit but ESPECIALLY our Libby-Fleur, particularly those born in September?

The answer is YES times seven.

I betcha all these factors fit a Libran you know…Now, you need only figure out a way to afford the world’s most expensive cupcake at just over $100,000.

Mia is a 23 year old pop-surrealist based in L.A.  I love her work so was not at all surprised to find she’s being avidly collected and is considered majorly cool.

MYSTIC:  Your work resonated with me instantly as it has all these astonishing themes that I love, such as astrology, alchemy, myth, surrealism and so on – yet it is also so beautiful and evocative to look at. How did you hit upon such a unique style?

MIA:  It’s a mystery even to me! I’ve recently gotten into tarot and in turn astrology, alchemy, and hermeticism, so I’ve come to learn a bit about myself as someone who tends to mythologize everything and wants to infuse everything with magic. I have an intense love for all of these things and for history, oftentimes feeling that I belong in a different era. I’m also surprised about how aquatic all of my work tends to be, whether there are water themes in it or not.

MYSTIC:  You are a quadruple Cancerian and Cancer (I prefer to call it Kataka which is the Ancient Sanskrit name for the sign, it means Scarab) is the sign most linked with artists. An unusual number of renowned artists are born under your sign. You have Sun, Moon, the Vertex and Psyche in this sign. Did you feel you were an artist from a v.early age?

MIA: I’ve been drawing ever since I could hold a crayon, and as soon as I learned to read and write, I became interested in writing. So my answer to the ‘what do you want to be when you grow up’ question was always ‘an artist.’ I still want to be one when I grow up. ;)

MYSTIC: Saturn is just finishing up a tour of duty in your career sector – it began back in late Sept 2007- would  you say the time between then and now has coincided with a phase of intense hard work but recognition and growth as well?

MIA: Yes, absolutely. Sept. 2007 is around the time that I began working on my first 2 featured shows that led to wider opportunities, and in turn my current bout of relative success and recognition.

MYSTIC: You have Sappho and Neptune in your $$$ sector, so apt for someone who makes her living via art but Mars is there too, in Capricorn. So that is like a fierce businesswoman vibe – would you agree? Also, Sappho is writing and Neptune is art, so clearly you are also a gifted writer…They say she is the Tenth Muse…

MIA:  I’m really big on self-promotion and getting my work out there. I’m also deeply interested in learning as much as I can about business, probably because I’m so bad at it. I’m equally interested in writing and art. Even though I don’t write professionally, I tend to fill more journals than sketchbooks, so it balances out in importance. I hope to someday make a living off of both, preferably together (as in children’s books, or illustrated fantastical stories for older audiences).

MYSTIC:  How do you prefer to work? Is it spontaneous, sort of channeled or do you plan your artworks carefully? And do you do much research into the symbols that you use? Do you paint in great big binges or short bursts?

MIA: I need to do a detailed drawing before I paint, but the drawing is created purely spontaneously, aided with photo reference. I paint in long stretches, and I surface-research my symbols, because of time constraints, so most of my symbols make their way into a piece via spontaneity.

MYSTIC:  You’ve got Jupiter in the home sector, lucky in real estate and domestic matters…How do you live? What is your domestic style?

MIA: I live with my parents and sister– I’m extremely lucky to have a loving family that is willing to support me financially, because I’m a bit of a hermit, and prefer to stay at home rather than go out. My studio is also at home and I love it.

MYSTIC: Your works seem supernaturally sagacious for someone so young – 23-and it is clearly selling heaps so you’re commercially successful too… I was quite surprised when you told me your birthdate…are you conscious of that at all?

MIA: I’m not usually conscious of that, even though you’re not the first person to tell me…probably because I’m my worst critic and am very self-demanding. I feel that I know so little in comparison to all that’s out there, and that I’ve got a lot to learn. But I guess that’s what most people feel like when they’re at the start of a career. :)

Farewell Saturn in Virgo but of course, we will see Saturn back there again in 2010. Hence the importance of having done one’s Saturn Thru Virgo review…If  you are a devout Saturn tracker – and frankly, you ought to be if you have anything significant in the later degrees of a Mutable sign (Gemini, Pisces, Virgo, Saggo) – then Saturn retrogrades back into Virgo in April 2010 and covers the same territory as it between early October 2009 and now. Then it finishes up in Virgo for 30 years in July 2010.

So April-July 2010 is when the undone/unacknowledged tasks of October come back to, um, see you. I was going to use the word haunt and a really spooked up metaphor but i decided against it. Perhaps see it more as a revision test. But this is why it’s a good idea to absolutely grok all of October’s Saturn issues. They will seem to ease radically but don’t slide back into pre-Saturn-in-Virgo complacency.

phpfNdwD8PMSATURN INTO LIBRA – FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1980!

L.A. – THURSDAY 11.09

NEW YORK – THURSDAY 14.09

LONDON – THURSDAY 19.09

SYDNEY – FRIDAY 4.09 AM

phprTM8N0AMNo offence and I hope that you do not mind if I point this out to you but Saturn has less than five days to go in Virgo and this would be a really good time to read/re-read Seven Things Virgo Hates About You…Just as a reminder of key areas to revise during the next week. I KNOW. Saturn Girl is hot. And boundaries are sexy things that create more room in our lives for what is authentic and emancipation. Still, look. Please.

tharpThe Creative Habit – Twyla Tharp

I saw this Jezebel snip about how the choreographer genius Twyla Tharp “gets up at 5 a.m. six days a week to edit her upcoming book Collaborative Habit, then rehearses dancers for her musical Come Fly With Me for seven hours. “Structure is required for creativity,” says Tharp.”

Her older book, The Creative Habit, is by all accounts a madly inspirational and get-thee-to-it-thou-sluggard motivational polemic & how-to, cleverly riffing on the idea that creative cut-through arrives via just chilling t.f out & maybe getting a bit wasted along the way. Yes I totally get that the notes scribbled on bar coasters/back of one’s childen’s school newsletters amidst a Dionysian moment do not often pass creative scrutiny the next day.

But 5am? SIX days a week? As the base?

I was thinking along the lines of TT as a super-industrious Virgo.  A Capricorn? Note pics of her ludicrously flexible et al at age nearly 70. Caps will do that. They and Leo love to be photographed in their 4th century this lifetime or whatever is going on, just casually tucking an ankle behind their blowdried hair.

My own experience of the Saturn through Virgo Transit has led to untold time and money measurements – they become normal under such stars. You count hours – am i working so hard as i think or is it just that I am dreadfully disorganised or overly deadline conscious? You calculate. You start to keep tabs on yourself and it feels like heaven. Warning: Do NOT try this sort of thing if you are not having a major Saturn transit.

You gain an eerie Saturnine glee from such accountability. So I can see how an actual Capricorn (ruled by Saturn) or Virgo would arrive at the 5am each morning start-time for many a practical reason. You need more time? MAKE IT. This is how Earth Signs think.

But she’s a Crab!!! And I have never known a single Crab-Person yet who would not engage in many a complicated negotation to score extra early am sleep…My god, many of them become wealthy (they are the canniest sign of all, remember, most likely to be your next-door millionaire) just because they so value security and the ability to snooze peacefully in, shell intact, savings in place.

But i had a quick peek at Twyla Tharp’s Astro-Databank chart & she may be Cancerian and with her Moon in Sensual Libra et al (also a sleeping-in indicator) BUT she has one major astro-signifier that totally backs up this idea of creative discipline and in fact, makes it absolutely obvious that she would seek a career out of something mega-exacting, controlled AND creative..but with a tradition.

Astro-Fiends can check out her chart here & say what it is: It is ONE particular major aspect that totally stands out and matches her books + image.
