Your Ascendent is the same as your Rising Sign. If you do  not know it – and you do know the time of your birth – you can check it out via Astrodienst.

Transits to the Ascendent are MAJOR. Especially when featuring one of the Outer Planets: Uranus, Neptune & Pluto. They have profound, overt, life-altering and enduring effects. Your Ascendent is how you relate to the world, your appearance & stance in relationships.  Let’s just do Outer Planets for now. These planets have such long retrogrades that the phase in which  you can consider your Ascendent as being affected by the transit can go for as long as two years.

These are the times when someone walks into your life and changes it, your appearance morphs and/or you reorient yourself radically. An Outer Planet transit to the Ascendent is like having someone hit the ‘restore to factory settings’ buttons on you. Non-you habits, ideas and attitudes that have kind of stuck to you over the years just fall away. It’s amazing  how often a relationship is the catharthis for such a transformation.

All transitting aspects to the Ascendent are interesting but the conjunction is the most powerful. If you have your Ascendent at 20 to 24 degrees of Pisces, then you’ve got Uranus on your Ascendent all year – this is the ‘give me freedom or else’ astro-passage. If you’re not doing it enough, people come into your life who either disrupt it (not so good) or whom inspire you toward emancipation. You’re flip, intellectual and very easily bored.

If your Ascendent is Zero to Four of Capricorn, think Pluto.  This is a super-intense makeover moment going for a couple of years: Ye olde ancient angst surfaces to be burned away by your new-found superstrength. You’re volatile, Phoenixing and unable to tolerate inauthentic situations. If your Ascendent is 23 to 24 degrees of Aquarius, you’re doing Neptune. You’ll be mysteriously alluring, very creative and given to prophetic/lucid dreaming but also amazingly sensitive to drugs and WATCH the ‘redemption’ style relationships.

Any outer planet transit to your Ascendent is a fab time to reorient yourself, be whom you truly are & alter your personal appearance. The Pluto transits in particular are associated with incredible metamorphosis. Strength training and/or martial arts & anything that works with Qi such as reiki or acupuncture is always fantastic during these kinds of transits as they do affect the physical body & you’re trying to channel a whole new you.

I know someone who is Pisces with Capricorn Rising & that’s all I am gonna say as she’s litigious and usually v.v. angry at life.  Anyway, she has always been bats for the ostentatious label look, gone totally broke trying to achieve it & brand-name-drops her head off. Sort of like a younger and more modern version of  Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet)

I am talking someone who will see things like “I’ll just sign for this with my Mont Blanc pen” and whipping out the thing with a tight-lipped grin of what she imagines to be born-to-the-manor style restraint. And being ape for certain fashion items – not because she is a fashionista – but because she madly wants peeps to think she’s ultra-wealthy.

Oddly enough, i have a couple of friends & an ex-husband who WERE raised ultra-wealthy & they like to knock around in daggy clothes, the men especially. The true class/money indicators are way beyond designer bags etc. Anyway, what is your Rising Sign/Sun and have you ever attempted to look “rich”, do you know anyone who does and what do you think of the whole statussy bling thing? And, please don’t howl, but i reckon it IS so characteristic of the Lower Capricorn.

Hyacinth Bucket is totally a Capricorn gone wrong.

By popular demand-nagging-guilting-wheedling, I am introducing a new feature – Astro-Baby!  I do find astrology a fascinating way to help understand your children. I have retrieved from the archives an old anecdote re my son – who is Kataka but with a multiple Leo conjunction – to illustrate & as I think it’s funny.  It’s below…I don’t do charts for children generally as it is nice to let them blossom and see how they manifest their astro. But they work really well…It’s good to look at some key points of their chart. eg; Having been fine at swimming as a toddler, my boy suddenly developed this extreme water phobia, which nothing would cure. Then one day at the swimming  pool, when he was about seven, he noticed two “older” girls staring at him and he dove straight in the deep end. Phobia cured.  That’s your multiple-Leo in action.

So is this;

He’s a teenager now. Mars, Mercury Jupiter all in Leo…Anyway, he went to the doctor, suspecting that he had picked up some vile gastric thing from his trip to Thailand…

Comes home, saying the doctor said he’s fine…

Me: Really?

Multi-Leo: Yeah. She was really attactive and she said i had amazing abs.

Me: What about the gastric thing?

Multi-Leo: Oh fine. But I said no to having diarrhea or flatulence because I didn’t want to ruin the image she so clearly had of me being really fit and all.

Me: Are you for real?

Multi-Leo: She thinks it might be something to do with our furniture…

Me: Furniture?  Did you actually go to see a DOCTOR? Or just chat up someone at the gym?

Multi-Leo: Yeah, she wants a stool sample. Do we even have any stools?

And with my daughter, she has Sun-Mars-Venus in Gemini/in the 5th house so absolutely craves creativity, art, knowledge & goss. But also Neptune Rising so slack at admin to a stupendous degree…She would rather draw or listen to music. Neptune Rising is beautiful, charismatic & artistic but can be hopeless re “reality.” But the Multi-Gemini means she has an astonishingly quick mind & encylopediac knowledge of about 100 people and their biz. She just knows things – every bit of info is processed, filed appropriately & stored.

So, without projecting a whole lot onto them, have a look at just your childs Sun, Rising and Moon sign – see if you can see how they’re operating…Nurture the Moon, respect the Rising & let the Sun just shine…And if they’re contradictory influences, see how you can help them work together a bit more. eg; Leo Rising is a show-off & will respond to music like you wouldn’t believe but if the Moon is in Scorpio, they need a locked box, secret diary sort of a thing and the absolute assurance of privacy.

Another example; My son’s Moon is in Virgo conjunct Venus so that’s innately health-conscious. He saw Supersize Me & totally altered his eating habits that very day. He invents his own little health rituals such as eating an entire garlic & fancy kinds of push-ups. So a Moon in Virgo child feels secure with healthy rituals & would love – for example-  his/her own diary or scheduler. A Moon in Libra child would be more likely to respond to aromatherapy than other Moons – maybe even tidy a room if they get to spritz a little something around later. Aries anything needs to compete & will go psycho-bats if give the kind of well-meaning goo-goo that they can’t. Taurus hates having their stuff moved around.

So I will do more along these lines in future Astro-Baby…

“If one is a greyhound, why try to look like a pekingese,” enquired the acerbic Virgoan Edith Sitwell – a biography of her was called A Unicorn Among Lions and there are natural echoes of The Ugly Duckling.

But the interesting astro idea is that your Rising and/or Ascendent sign really IS your best look.  If you do not know your Rising/Ascendent sign, you can figure it out via Astrodienst or via an astrologer. Once you have it, read that along with your Sun sign in any scope…See how it feels…

Do you embody your Rising Sign astrologically? It makes fashion/image a LOT easier once you accept it and – for astro-fiends only, look at the house placement of your ruling planet (ruler of the ascendent) for the BASE energy of your Look…I swear it makes AMAZING sense upon pondering. You can also have fun looking to fashion/image choices at 7 year intervals – 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42 etc – as these are all strong Saturn-Uranian flashpoints.

And of course if you have any BIG outer planet (Uranus, Pluto, Neptune) sitting on our Ascendent (such transits take at least 18 months) then  will perform a spectacular makeover, ready or NOT.  Ascendent astro WORKS. If you need to buy new clothes, wait until Venus is hovering nearby your Asc. Anyway, I am interested in the query – does your look embody your rising sign?

Aries Rising would need bold, primary colours – especially red. Taurus old world luxe & texture v.important. Gemini – trend fiend. Kataka would SO slink around in vintage. Leo, like a Versace look & blinged  up with golden aura. Virgo; precise, layered and with some thought behind it. Libra; classic bombshell. Scorpio; black leather, Sagg; boho & gear from their travels. Cap; austere, power. Aqua; prob the same thing ALL the time but it works? Pisces; crystally yoga wear & aura enhancing hues…

Here we go with this week’s Astro-Sun-Sign Query Du Jour…Nominating your Sun, Moon or Rising Sign are you a restless & nomadic style creature or deeply devoted to your home-nest-castle reality?  Astro-fiends can go for it and note their Jupiter & 9th house scenarios as well.

Apart from a teenage stage when i’d go anywhere with practically nothing & little care where I slept, i am a shockingly devout homebody. It has to do with being able to exert control over my environment (Mars-Pluto-Uranus in Virgo), having kids young & Jupiter in the 4th house. That’s a grounding influence. And just some sort of primal love of my land/village. BUT i have Moon in the 9th…the only real manifestation of that is that i live in a land  not of my birth. But note that benefics (Venus, Jupiter) in the 4th house have you loving chez you more than you would if – say – Saturn were there.

Is the astro-cliche correct that Sagg is the most ludicrously travelled of all? Are you already plotting your next destination or do you really not give a merde?  I know a Kataka married to a Saggo; he’s constantly away & mad for it. She gardens, cooks & decorates + is amazingly canny with the $ and so far (about a decade) it seems to work. She likes him not to be ‘underfoot’ all the time. He likes the freedom & then to come home to lavender-reeking sheets + real food.
