perfect day plan

Right now, in Sydney, it is Small Intestine time…When we should probably all be taking a siesta. I know this from reading the Perfect Day Plan by Jost Sauer – a really cool & quickly accessible guide to living your life a la the principles of Chinese Medicine. Okay, like many a health guide, it does all boil down to Early-T0-Bed & Early-To-Rise = healthy/wealthy/wise + lay off the stodge but it’s a brill book, especially if you are interested in acupuncture, Qi et all but want something simple to read.

Some tidbits: “Toast is not chi building food.”

“The minute you feel negative emotions – whether it is anger, insecurity or paranoia – it is an indication that you are low on chi or blood or nutrients.”

“Weights are sometimes called the yoga of the west and this is absolutely true. Doing weights breaks down muscle fibre and rebuilds stronger fibres. As your emotions are stored in your muscles, this is an incredible opportunity to break down stored memories and emotions and entrenched ideas as well.”

It’s interesting that the time he says we should wake up & exercise et al is (yes) early but it’s also astrologically apt – the Sun Sign and Rising Sign being the same, obviously, means one can be astro-attuned to an unusual degree. Like a mini New Moon everyday.

His point for those who loathe to get up early: “People often tell me that they don’t want to get up early because they love their beds and their sleep. If this is the case, go to bed earlier and really enjoy it.” Why DOES the bed feel different in the morning?

The super-pysched early morning risers i’ve known – you know, up at the crack & cheery with it – have all been Arieans. And Jost DOES vibe mega-Aries to me; cocky, confident, take-all-comers. He also wrote a book called Drug Repair That Works which apparently has a cult of devotees because it is so totally original…

The Moon is now in Leo so we can maybe do this Dark Moon thing in a little more suave fashion…Leos are sometimes said to be bad at copping criticism but the ones I know (along with our Gemini) deflect it brilliantly. They compute whether it is relevant/constructive or not and if it’s just neg-whining, they alchemically transform it into something tres flattering and get back to their beauty sleep/honouring their genius/something compassionate and/or arty.  I confidently anticipate all of us will be more even, now that the Moon has passed Mars and is into Leo…And note also that some  peeps will be going batso at the end of the Mars-Kataka tour of duty. Pass-agg, agg-agg and just a bit sarky. But not us as we channel the powerful Qi of Haute Leo.

Am reading this fascinating book…Obviously i love Feng Shui & Acupuncture -both work with enhancing Qi, one in the home & one in your body/soul matrix – but this is making me re-think Tai Chi. It used to always bore me. Does anyone practice Tai Chi or Qi-Gong???  Of course Qi is just the Chinese word for it. It’s also Prana & vital force…loads of different terms for It.

“Even now the stars, the planets, the elements, the creatures and ourselves; all of these move within and are penetrated and influenced by that original field of Qi. Qi is what causes the planets to maintain their orbits around the sun. It is the Qi that causes each snowflake to be unique and the Qi that shifts the moon  phases and the tides. Qi sustains our health and Qi si the force behind intelligence and emotions. Qi is the vitality that causes the evolution of a tiny embyro of dividing cells to mature into a full size human. The longing of the Qi of the earth to reach up and merge with the Qi of heaven drives a small sprout out of the seed  – upaward in spite of the force of gravity-to become a giant tree. Qi is known from the expressions that it embodies: the process of healing, the creativity that generates poetry and art; the transformation of tadpoles into frogs and caterpilars into butterflies. Qi is life force, energy and consciousness – it is the essence behind all effects, influences and events as well as all elements, materials and objects.”

So, basically, it is magic – no?

Arrows_med

My lovely friend Kim Falconer’s new book Arrows Of Time is out.  I loved the Spell Of Rosette and this is the 2nd in the series.  It reminds me of my fave classics: Ursula K Le Guin, Madeleine L’Engle, Tanith Lee…What is awesome about Kim’s fiction is that it works as a thriller and as science fantasy but she actually uses PROPER magic in them…So the herblore, martial arts Qi stuff and astrology is all totally accurate. It makes for a more satisfying read. I cannot bear books that pretend to be all about witches or whatever but they mix up mugwort with hemlock or something. I also love the idea of time travelling expert swordswomen witches who are also brilliant at computers & quantum physics.

And so anyway, I have interviewed Kimmy!

MYSTIC: Please can you give a quick precis of this book – the 2nd in a series – for those not familiar with your work?

KIM FALCONER The Quantum Enchantment Series is ’speculative fiction’–a story about real people up against the wall, immersed in nano-technology and witchcraft, sentient and gender biases, fast horses, hot bards, stunning tattoos and environments on the brink of destruction. It has elements of fantasy, science fiction and magical realism, exploring the relationship between magic and technology, thought and energy in parallel worlds. Book one, The Spell of Rosette, begins the journey–a coming of age for a young witch. Arrows of Time, book 2, continues the story. It is set in three worlds experiencing multiple sequences of time.

MYSTIC: Kimmy, I love how you weave actual magic, spellcraft, herblore and – of course – astrology into your fiction. Can you give me an example from Arrows Of Time?

KIM FALCONER:
There are a lot of astrological references in the whole series. One example is when Kreshkali reflects on how An’ Lawrance’s accepts his new apprentices.
Excerpt: ‘Not bad for a man with his moon in the fixed sign of the Scorpion. Change didn’t come easy for such a placement, nor did letting go of grudges, but he’d handled it with near effortlessness, if you didn’t count the grumbles, scowls and derogatory annotations.’
Hara, or Qi energy is a strong element in my novels — it is the source of magical power after all. Because some of the main characters wield Samurai swords, you’ll see them channelling their energy, using the sword as a conduit and then, well, depending on whether it’s training or a real confrontation, heads may roll!

MYSTIC You are a whiz at Horary Astrology- please explain how it works and why you’re so good at it?

KIM FALCONER: Horary astrology was developed at a time when few charts were drawn for individuals, save royalty. Many people didn’t even know their birth day let alone time so if they wanted to consult ‘the stars’ it couldn’t be done through the birth chart. Enter the horary method! It is a chart done for the moment in time ‘you ask the question’. The interpretation is made through a symbol system that derives meaning from planetary motions. The idea of horary–which is deeply explored in Arrows of Time through a conversation between Kreshkali and her apprentice–is not causal (not planets causing events) but synchronicity—meaningful coinciding of planets with events. Why do I have a knack for reading them? It’s really all about practice–I’ve been doing them for a long long time!

MYSTIC: What are your thoughts on the upcoming Saturn-square Pluto in Capricorn aspect – in late November…Do you agree with me that it’s going to be a real “tell” of how Pluto in Cap is likely to manifest over the next few years???

KIM FALCONER: Saturn often coincides with a big dose of ‘reality’ so in that sense yes, it will be telling. On a personal level I think it will be very significant for relationships of all kinds. Saturn is exalted in Libra and whenever he’s found in this sign, he cleans house in the relationship department. For those who have a clear, beautiful, openhearted love life, they will find it deepening–things get richer–better! For those ‘tolerating’ partnerships that are no longer authentic or nurturing, the strength to make creative change–and the impulse to do so–will be at hand.

MYSTIC: I absolutely love the character of the witch genius and fighter Rosette – what is her astro?

KIM FALCONER: Rosette, born in Gaela, has sun in the sign of the Twins (Gemini) a Water-bearer moon (Aquarius) square Uranus and the Lion (Leo) rising . She has one heck of a Neptune transit to her sun in Arrows of Time–it has quite a literal effect!

MYSTIC: Whenever we talk, I always love how your positive philosophy seems to sort of blend Law of Attraction stuff with very practical astrology, goddess worship and quantum physics. Is it poss for you to please precis your philsophy?

KIM FALCONER: My motto is –We are spiritual beings in physical bodies here to experience life. From that perspective, we can drop words like ‘good’ and ‘bad’, ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ and replace them with notions of ‘alignment’, ‘vibration’ and ‘energy’. I also believe that we ‘get what we vibrate’. When I attract something to me that I don’t like, the first thing I ask is, what does this have to do with me? It helps in seeing the world from a different angle! (or angel :)

riven-09

God, I loved Riven. I mean, I as crap at it but i loved wandering through the landscape. Plus i loved Blasto & the late 90s platformers…Playstation got too much of a time-Qi drain & so it was brill when the thing burnt out – it’s never that productive staying up until 2am trying to defeat a giant space bug. BUT I am curious as to which signs, astro-profiles are  most likely to be a gamer, hate the very idea of it or still be amazingly proud of some High Score achieved once upon a time. And which GAME???

umbridgeDolores Umbridge – Harry Potter

“Wise men learn many things from their enemies.” Aristophanes.

And wise women too, for sure. I think every sage has a variation on this sentiment. Sun Tzu & Katharine Hepburn et al. It’s true. If you think about it, the negative role-modelling of F-wits is often a fabulous example of what-not-to-be and their enmity a major compliment. As in, they’re so nuts, if they loathe you, perhaps you are doing something right after all. Even their criticism, though infuriating or ill-motivated, can contain a seed of insight.

The Astro-Cliche is usually that’s it is our Scorpio who is most capable of retaining emo toward an enemy. In general, the Fixed Signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) are most inclined to cling on to enmity or keep shit-lists in their secret drawer. Aries arc right up at the first sign of dissing. Librans consider all enemies to have deeply sad personal problems that they, the darling Libran, feels awful about but what can they do? Leos assume the neg feelings of enemies spring from extreme envy. Taurus is – in my opinion- the most likely to be a good hater. The Mutables (Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius) tend to forget & airily assume that life/qi/karma/elan vitale will take care of the enemy. Capricorns bear no (official) grudge and certainly nothing that can be tracked back and used against them but they do not forget. Cancerians are surprisingly vengeful and canny when they want to be.

But let’s do it; What have your enemies taught you? And they need not be full on aggressive enemies – lessons learned from dickheads are equally applicable. I learned the hard way that if you attempt to be nice/friendly/polite to low-rent people, they take it as a sign of utter craven weakness on your part & that seeing as they’re going to loathe you ANYWAY, you may as well disengage and get on with individuating, living well et al.

You know, no doubt, of the “dark horse” cliche – this is more of a Dark Unicorn moment.

Seriously! Totally! I mean as in that one can attain a Unicorny degree of blameless clarity or even innocence/a fresh start feeling but it comes with a darker edge of self-knowing.

The Full Moon Eclipse in Capricorn is about neo-pragmatism – a feeling of foreboding that lifts the nano you face up to one icky fact or another and start to make cohesive plans. It’s like Saturn. Yes? So not a good time to float about being gaga & lazy or unrealistic. It’s all Earth-Earth-Earth so be grounded.

Yes, you have to work a BIT harder at firing  up the old self-belief as there is a paucity of Fire Sign action in the skies right now; you generate the heat from secret stores of Qi? But, as if to compensate, remember that Mars IS going to spend nearly NINE MONTHS in Leo from October…And some of that will include Uranus in Aries.

What will Uranus in Aries be like? I reckon it will be cool. This dude was born with Uranus in Aries & his generation produced some fantastic inventive peeps.

I did an extended rave re the Mars going Ape component of this Eclipse in Daily Mystic & the Scopes but in short; stay pragmatic & evolving even as some super-sensitive areas are tweaked. Sensational psych dreaming.

Clean, clear and free from ye olde shit – you’re now able to embody the emancipated spirit of our Gem. Yes, you still have to fight your twin selves or whatevs but so WHAT. This is one of the best-aspected New Moons in ages…it trines the North Node in Aquarius – harbinger of the auspicious and reformed New Agie future. Cling not! Embrace the ambivalence. Aquarius & Gemini + wherever you have those points in your chart are HYPED! So harness ambivalence, balance things out and forge ahead with this strong astro-qi.

Were you ever a Goth and/or would you consider adding a Gothic subtone to your look??? I tried to be a Goth (blonde hair dyed jet black, black lace, crinolines etc) and certainly had enough Gothic tastes (gin, Baudelaire, Wuthering Heights, Victoria Holt novels, teen angst, The Cure, intense crushes that nothing could quench except for when they were requited) but looked like a mental patient escapee.

These days, whilst I respect a good Goth look & I live in a Goth infested area, any form of Gothic accessory would clash with my Qi, Feng Shui, Chakra whatevs aesthetic. Plus it’s fussy. And all i really do is trackpants, jeans, sarongs, american apparel shirts etc. My son and his friends are all terrifed of Goth girls as think they dress like “creepy Victorian undeads” but they quite like the sexier end of Goth fashion, that’s more like dominatrix/vampire/leather Kate Beckinsale in whatever that dreadful vampire movie was called.

But it’s back-back-back as I believe Italian Vogue & so would you/could you do it and did you ever?  Astrologically it, of course, just screams Scorp. But I think Cancerians/Katakas would also be SO drawn to it for a chance to ponce about in ye olde clothes styles & cameo brooches etc. Also, i am scared to go here after all the shitty bitcherel for my perfectly innocent Beth Ditto post but it occurs to one that Goth fashion is very, very forgiving; Corsets, flowing skirts etc.

herb_mugwort1Mugwort pic from here where you can also buy fabulous mugwort smudge sticks online!

Mugwort is amazingly brilliant.  I know i say that about every herb i am in the mood to enthuse about but really…It is magic & protective to the nth degree. The Latin name for this herb is Artemisia Vulgaris – herb of Artemis, the Moon Goddess. Even a teensy bit of the fresh or dried mugwort in between the pillow case & the pillow will induce the most intense dreams – I try it occasionally, when I am feeling daring enough. AND i am trying to grow it.

Some say it was the herb used in flying ointment, to make the brooms witches flew on. It’s sooo powerful that you’d only want to touch it in a blend made by a qualified herbalist.

Mugwort is revered in Chinese Medicine, where they all it Ai-Ye & it’s used in moxibustion, done by acupuncturists for all sort of things but most commonly to move breech babies though i had it this morning to raise Qi. The word “moxy” comes from “moxa” which is the medicinal application of Mugwort to the Chinese meridians et al.

Mostly what i use it for is as a smudge stick – most smudge sticks are sage & mugwort IS actually a variety of sage. So when you want to cleanse the atmosphere of your space & it need something super-heavy-duty, beyond normal white sage smudging, you reach for the Mugwort. I haven’t done a posting on smudging  yet; short version – clean your house, throw shit out & then light the smudge stick & waft it about, as if cleansing the air. It is instantly effective.

You can get smudge sticks from any good new agie shops,  the peeps i linked to above or google them…
