Virgo SuperModel Carmen Kass at a chess championship.

I was wondering which signs would excel at chess, if any & whilst researching the subject I found out that the Virgoan Supermodel Carmen Kass, is not only a chess champion but president of the Estonian National Chess League. Her current lover is a Taurean chess champion (both Earth signs, bliss!) and Ms Kass has recently fought for but lost the rights for her native country to host the international Chess Olympics. Germany got it.

Three points:

* Chess goes in and out fashion, does it not? Occasionally a sexy chess playing scene is bunged into a movie? I was MADE to join a stupid chess club to calm me down aged 14-ish (Uranus sextile Uranus is always fun and NO, being made to do a very classical and trad ancient game with RULES is not the best thing for any Uranian transit.) Even the sitting down bit is a problem.  So i ignored all the boring stuff and learned ONE really fancy gambit. Something to do with risking the Queen.

* The Virgoan Supermodel Chess Champion ideal is kind of cool, yes?

* I researched – a bit – the chess champions of the world  and guess what?!!! The last TEN have all been MUTABLE SIGNS: Non-stop Gemini, Pisces, Virgo and Sagittarius.  I would have surmised that the Fixed Signs – Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius – would have been more strategic and patient. But there is a total bias toward the Mutables. WHY? Amorality?  Fluidity? Your thoughts?

Okay so what are your Decadence Settings for this holiday season?

Are any of you planning to go totally ape at some party?  Hide out at a health farm for the duration and emerge looking sensational in January whilst all your friends cower on their couches reading self-help books or yet to emerge from their Carb Coma???

My feeling is that the Mutables (Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo and Pisces) will be celebrating Saturn having gotten off their arse. And Pluto too. They will be in a mood to reprise the decadent self of their yesteryear, only with some of their hardwon sagacious wisdom blended in to the madness. They’re thinking strategic pulling, no nonsense and no Qi wasted on twerps or pointless liasions. See? Saturn worked. But make no mistake about it, they’re getting ready to act up.

Those signs currently under the pump of Saturn and Pluto: Aries, Libra, Cancerians and Capricorns will be looking at working way up to the last possible minute, maintaining their health regimens with absolute rigour & trying not to resent the enforced sloth and frivolity too much.

So we’re looking at the Fixed Signs – Aquarius is v.sensitive due to all the Neptunian/Chironic/Jovial action in their sign so they may be adopting a more spiritual-edge celebratory attitude this year. An official love-in. Taurus is – as always – fantastic at relaxing and banqueting, regardless of the occasion. If it’s trad  in their circles to get trashed and dance on the table wearing nothing but a bit of tinsel, then Taurus will do it, no worries.

Scorpio & Leo are both equally determined to do the season on old-school, Saturnalia style; huge floral arrangements, grandiose tie-breaking with all ex-lovers, mead or a version there-of and sex.

Someone should quickly open an Xmas/New Year Retreat for Capricorns who are not in the mood to do Christmas, their birthday, carbs or leisure.

Farewell Saturn in Virgo but of course, we will see Saturn back there again in 2010. Hence the importance of having done one’s Saturn Thru Virgo review…If  you are a devout Saturn tracker – and frankly, you ought to be if you have anything significant in the later degrees of a Mutable sign (Gemini, Pisces, Virgo, Saggo) – then Saturn retrogrades back into Virgo in April 2010 and covers the same territory as it between early October 2009 and now. Then it finishes up in Virgo for 30 years in July 2010.

So April-July 2010 is when the undone/unacknowledged tasks of October come back to, um, see you. I was going to use the word haunt and a really spooked up metaphor but i decided against it. Perhaps see it more as a revision test. But this is why it’s a good idea to absolutely grok all of October’s Saturn issues. They will seem to ease radically but don’t slide back into pre-Saturn-in-Virgo complacency.

The Moon’s Scorpionic & so too will the Sun be by Friday…Mars is in Leo till next June – get Martian Bats if you haven’t already – and Saturn has just ten more days to stay in Virgo for now!!! S-Loads of change is afoot & the Scorpio Moon is a brilliant time to emotionally process it all and get to pertinent, striking perceptions with ease. It’s sexy too + metaphysical & a tad power-trippy + the now-building trine from Venus to Jupiter means flirtations or new money biz can expand rapidly out of more or less nothing. The Moon in Scorp and Mars in Leo (anything between Leo and Scorp, actually) always feels a bit like Jungle Energy…don’tcha reckon?  And btw, if the Mutable signs are going to gloat about Saturn getting out of Virgo, that’s awesome but please don’t freak out the Cardinals.

Mutables; Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo, Pisces – have been affected on and  off by Saturn since late 2007. A bit austere, details-ridden and ancient feeling than they would prefer. Especially Saggo who also  had Pluto for heaps of it.

Cardinals; Capricorn, Libra, Aries, Cancerians…I call the latter Kataka on the Daily Scopes…It is Ancient Sanskrit name for their sign. Sacred Scarab and all that. Cardinals – especially those born early in their sign- are about to get a zap from Saturn…All perfectly for their own good and growth, naturally. All Cardinals should totally have the Saturnalia Confidential...

Uncaged…

This probably applies way more to the Mutables (Saggo, Pisces, Gemini, Virgo) than other Sun Signs but still…think about this. Saturn has been in Virgo since late 2007. It gets outta there in a few weeks. Though it does back-track into Virgo next year, it is over degrees that will already have been done in October…

Uranus swinging around and opposing Saturn can lead to a sensation of realising where one is caged (by circumstances, habits, a relationship, attitudes, outmoded beliefs, fears, whatevs) and then uncaging oneself. The idea would be that you came to haute awareness of the situation last Feb or  September that is just finishing now & busy thyself becoming more emancipated.

Hands up who’s escaping with the Uranian vibe?? Or who has just now realised that they were caged but that now they are not?

The price of freedom? Everyone knows this one. Eternal vigilance.

073-saturn-girlSaturn Girl

I love the basic description of Saturn Girl as “a talented telepath from the 30th Century.”

I am so totally loving Saturn, even though the planet is opposing my Venus right now. As you can read in Saturn Crashes The Uranus-Venus Club and the Saturn-Venusian Transits Bad Boys Thingie if you are having a Uranus transit to any point in your chart in the next month, Saturn is along for the smackdown. But this is a GOOD thing.

It need not be Venus of course – whatever is betweeen 20 to 26 degrees of any sign but especially the Mutable signs (Virgo, Pisces, Gemini, Saggo) is being affected. In fact, more than that, it’s been caught between Saturn and Uranus.  My mind is on this at the moment partly because i am doing the Saturn-Uranus-Mercury Retro mini-astro-queries but also because i have this Saturn opposing my Venus thing going on & I have decided TWO MAJOR THINGS;

Thing One; Saturn is not boring. Yes i often link the planetary influence with mortality, taxes blah de blah. But the other night, when i turfed out the Uranian, it felt fabulous. Like having an inner suave life coach – setting boundaries seemed suddenly SO simple & easy. And just because he’d turned up out sans warning, i didn’t let my Venus-Neptunian goo-goo urges take over and render the whole thing “passionate” or (worse) fated. Quite frankly it is that sort of sentiment that leads to an awful lot of women snivelling into the cracked tea-mug they’re drinking warm gin out of as they gaze out of their rusty window frame at the railway tracks. Not that the U would have taken me there, but you get my point. Channel Saturn to prize your health, wealth & wisdom. Saturn is cool. And given that the pantheon is overwhelmingly male, i am visualising Saturn as Saturn-Girl for the moment. It works for me and it might work for you too.

Thing Two; Yes, Saturn and Uranus are moving into an opposition at the moment (and it’s back next April so how you do September’s one determines 2010 a LOT) but it need not be a battle between the two. What if they get along really well & help one another? The other night with the U is not just me being an indulgent confessional blogger – it works as an example because Venus was trining Uranus and sextiling Saturn. So it was an actual Saturn-Uranus opposition test/issue. Okay so Saturn works by setting boundaries & saying this isn’t good enough and so on – Uranus was simply bored by the whole thing. I seriously felt like it was a groundhog situation. Almost like we had been scripted and were just revving up for take 57 of the same stupid scene. Not good. Uranus on its own might grok the boredom and attempt to liven things up via a dash of chaos or acting out but Saturn kicks in and says ‘kill it’ – no dramas, no worries & now pixter your teeth, bung on some antioxidant serum & go happily to a rejuvenatory sleep.

So far as boundaries go, Saturn-Girl is set and forget. No agonising. No insomnia. No Neptunian musings re karma drama.

AND: One of my fave astro books – The Gods Of Change, by Howard Sasportas -  makes the point that Neptune always benefits from a little Saturn. So if you’re Venus in Pisces, Venus in 12th House or Venus aspecting Neptune (a la me) then you will love a good Saturn transit to your Venus, you truly will.

The transits of Mars never passed un-noticed. They’re manifest & in your face.  The other day, when i dinged my head, I was having a Mars transit, for instance. The very same week coincided with the “outing” of open “enemies.”  But BECAUSE I was having a Mars transit, I thought ‘great.’  Better overt than covert. Yes, it all sounds a bit dramatic but fairly classic for any astro-passage involving Mars.  Ditto a short-tolerance for lack of respect, limitations and obstacles.

The upside of Mars???  A LOT of energy that if you channel it effectively can be amazingly productive. The guts to stick up for what is right & to take incisive strategic action, sans waffle or sentiment.

There are two different types of Mars transits – Mars zooms around the place & aspects – say – your Mercury or your Venus. So your talking or your love nature gets ‘Mars-ified’ for a few days. Mars on your Venus is excellent if you’re up for flirtation & new lust opportunities. Mars-Mercury is when you send off a trillion new biz pitches in a day.  And most likely tell someone or other to get effed.

The other type of Mars transit is when your natal Mars is triggered by a passing planet. If this is any planet past Jupiter, it can last for months, maybe years. These are the ones that it is totally worth keeping an eye on. Right now, for instance, anyone with Mars at Zero to five degrees of a Cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) or in the same degrees of Taurus/Virgo is having their Mars affected by Pluto; an awesome unleashing of power: ruthless self-regenerative powers.

Mars is in Gemini and moving to square Saturn (sigh) and then Uranus (yay) over the next few weeks. It will stress out les Mutables the most (Gemini, Virgo, Saggo, Pisces) but everyone gets it a bit…As Saturn and Uranus oppose one another in mid-Sept, Mars triggering both now is actually a really useful prequel of September tensions. No, they need not be tensions. An opposition can also be delightful balance

Again, it’s about trying to find the ideal state between  honouring Saturn (tradition, work ethic, discipline, corporations, security) and Uranus (innovation, excitement, freedom) without overdoing it either end. Too much Saturn and you’re a moribund drudge. Too much Uranus and  you’re a flake adrift.

Soooo Mars, as is his wont, is basically getting in there early and starting a fight between Saturn & Uranus way before it is even due. The square to Saturn perfects by August 11 and the one to Uranus by the 19th. There are friendly aspects to Mars from the Auspicious Aqua-Weirding so being grounded/sensible (to keep Saturn at bay, stay frugal, organised and humble) even as you self-actualise and do the rad Uranian thing is the way to go…

And of course, once Saturn has opposed Uranus in mid-September, our Mars heads into Leo for nearly nine months. And what does Mars do in Leo?  Acts out & shows off. Bigtime. Unreal if you’re a performer though…

umbridgeDolores Umbridge – Harry Potter

“Wise men learn many things from their enemies.” Aristophanes.

And wise women too, for sure. I think every sage has a variation on this sentiment. Sun Tzu & Katharine Hepburn et al. It’s true. If you think about it, the negative role-modelling of F-wits is often a fabulous example of what-not-to-be and their enmity a major compliment. As in, they’re so nuts, if they loathe you, perhaps you are doing something right after all. Even their criticism, though infuriating or ill-motivated, can contain a seed of insight.

The Astro-Cliche is usually that’s it is our Scorpio who is most capable of retaining emo toward an enemy. In general, the Fixed Signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) are most inclined to cling on to enmity or keep shit-lists in their secret drawer. Aries arc right up at the first sign of dissing. Librans consider all enemies to have deeply sad personal problems that they, the darling Libran, feels awful about but what can they do? Leos assume the neg feelings of enemies spring from extreme envy. Taurus is – in my opinion- the most likely to be a good hater. The Mutables (Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius) tend to forget & airily assume that life/qi/karma/elan vitale will take care of the enemy. Capricorns bear no (official) grudge and certainly nothing that can be tracked back and used against them but they do not forget. Cancerians are surprisingly vengeful and canny when they want to be.

But let’s do it; What have your enemies taught you? And they need not be full on aggressive enemies – lessons learned from dickheads are equally applicable. I learned the hard way that if you attempt to be nice/friendly/polite to low-rent people, they take it as a sign of utter craven weakness on your part & that seeing as they’re going to loathe you ANYWAY, you may as well disengage and get on with individuating, living well et al.

“Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you can’t build on it; it is good only for wallowing in.”

Katherine Mansfield, the writer.

SHE was Libra with her Libran Sun conjunct Uranus (free-thinker, ahead of her time) and a lovely great big gallumping Mars in Saggo Rising + Venus-Mercury in Scorpio… Which if it were being expressed freely, would want to regenerate and could stand to stagnate. That’s just f.y.i.

But is there an astro-signature for regret or not giving a damn?  I always think the Mutables (Gemini, Virgo, Sagg & Pisces) are the LEAST inclined to it – purely because they like to keep things chugging along + they’re kind of amoral, with the poss exception of our Virgo.

And yes I know it was the Saggo Edith Piaf who sang Non, je ne regrette rien (No, i regret nothing) but it always seems like it’s such a lie. Or is that the point?

I’m thinking that a heavy Saturn placement would incline one toward regret?  Hands up who agrees with Katherine Mansfield?

The Saturn-Uranus Opposition is ON again!

See above link for a more detailed explanation, if you desire it.

It was big last November, last Feb and it’s exact again in September. But I felt it strongly in mid-May, on the weekend when Saturn went direct. And I am feeling it now, in the week that Uranus goes Retrograde. You see – these two energies are moving back into their opposition. They’re ten degrees apart at the moment but are what is called “applying” at the moment.

Of course, you’re more sensitive to this little bit of astro-weirding if you have planets/vital points in the path of it. If you laughed in the face of Feb, maybe it’s just a cute quirk going on in your life. It’s especially big for all the Mutables – Gemini, Saggo, Pisces, Virgo & also Aquarians + Capricorns.

It’s like a tension between the values of Saturn – time-honoured tradition, the status quo – and the values of Uranus; freedom, emancipation from all limitations…even emotional loving bonds & sentiment. So Voice One might be saying in your mind something along the lines of “you’re too old” or “you can’t fund this” or that you aren’t qualified enough. Voice Two – the Uranian one is saying “accept no convention” and “fuq normality” or “do your own thing.”

The best result from the whole thing is to see-saw between the different systems of thinking and somehow honour both. eg; individuate but do your damned paperwork. You have to pay homage to Saturn in Virgo (structures, details) before you can go wafting off into grokking Uranian genius.

Neither Saturn nor Uranus like woolly thinking, naff sentiment or set-ups that are essentially clapped out but kept on witih out of weakness. So in that sense, they get along. Between now and September is an awesome time to follow your bliss but you need the Saturnine foundations to do something truly cool.

And watch the approach to tensions generated by this opposition where you identify too strongly with either side of the opposition; ‘bad’ Saturn = over-controlling, rigid and judgemental and ‘bad’ Uranus = a total raving flake, incapable of fitting into any society, out of control.
