JS: On the cusp of Scorpio and Sagittarius.

B: My mum is heavily into these things, and apparently I’m as much Scorpio as one can be. To me, whether it means something or not – fuck that, I just love the symbolism of it. B: My mum did it. I think she took me to all the occult creatures of Iceland, from the age of zero until I was eighteen, when I became a rebel anti-hippie. I got my fortune told and everything. I think I probably believe most of it, actually. I’ve got Pluto in a very important place, and that’s what I’m about. I have to re-create the universe every morning when I wake up. And kill it in the evening, which is a bit outrageous, but there you go.

JS: Hard work.

B: Heee! Well, maybe not every morning, but maybe twice a year I have to destroy everything. I’ve also got my moon in the twelfth house, in Scorpio, and my sun in Scorpio in the first house, and also Neptune. Then on my other half, my generational picture, I’ve got Pluto and Uranus in Virgo, and my midheaven is in conjunct with those two. Virgo is the sign of the nurse, so this means I was born to nurse my generation. I’m still fifty-fifty about whether this is true, but I was breast-fed on it.”

I think that your childhood DreamScape is perhaps the most intensely personal & amazing part of yourself – it comes before the earthy intimacies of sex & money and exists devoid of functional/dysfunctional families, class et al. Mata Hari – Leo Spy

Today is the birthday of Mata Hari…This is a review of a Mata Hari biography

“Femme Fatale’s central contention is that “it is difficult to imagine a woman less likely . . . to be able to engage in clandestine activities than Mata Hari.” She was a star, and “while she was certainly seductive, which might be viewed as useful for a spy, she was never on any occasion invisible”; in fact, she was “a ridiculous candidate for a job that required clandestine behavior.” Yet her persecutors “believed firmly that Mata Hari was guilty because she slept with many men and traveled widely in wartime. Such a woman must be a spy.” A kangaroo court agreed, and on Oct. 15, 1917, at the age of 41, she was executed. Shipman reports that many years later, the prosecutor, Andre Mornet, talked to a writer about the case and said “with a supreme indifference, ‘Between you and me, there wasn’t enough [evidence] to flog a cat.’ “

There’s more mystery about the woman than about the charges that cost her life. Shipman probably is right that “she was convicted not for espionage but for her lack of shame,” but how she got that way — defiantly, exuberantly, spectacularly — simply can’t be explained. ”

Oh well was Leo & not only that – a Multiple Conjunct Leo – Sun, Mars, Mercury, Uranus and Midheaven all Leo. Squared by Pluto in Taurus. I cannot think of a worse combination for a spy, the poor thing. Moon-Saturn in Pisces conjunct North Node.

Is Pluto Still A Planet?

71855001v17_350x350_FrontAmazingly, Pluto has been demoted again.  I find this totally hard to believe. It’s like the planet to watch so far as transits are concerned. When Pluto comes rumbling along to – say – sit on your Venus or your Midheaven for a bit, one notices. Things change. After the 18 months or so of the astro-passage, you look back and realise that you’re now a totally different person. Transformation indeed.

Pluto is right now retrograding way back to where it was in Feb 2008 and then it leaps forward again into a whole new phase in September…Oh and Saturn in early Libra will square Pluto in Capricorn in mid-November. That’s when we’ll get to thrash the Pluto argument out in totality. It’s world order changing stuff & for peeps with things in early Cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn) it’s big shifts for them too.  Always toward more, sigh, authenticity of course.

Is anyone Pluto transitting??? And thus no doubt looking eagerly forward to Pluto going direct in September??? Basically, Pluto has been between Zero and Three Degrees of Capricorn since early 2008. So anyone with stuff at those degrees is Pluto-affected but particularly if you’re an early Cardinal sign.

Let me clarify the query: You are having a Seance & have somehow managed to be assured of a top-notch guest list. The presence of ONE passed on A-lister is guaranteed…Whom would you choose???  Mine would be the surrealist writer & film director Luis Bunuel. His autobiography My Last Sigh is one of my all-time fave reads.

He was Sun Sign Pisces with Neptune Rising in Gemini. Neptune Rising or otherwise prominent is so often found in the charts of great & influential cinema luminaries. It is also the astro-signature of a mystical and artistic calling. His Mercury in Pisces squared Pluto in Gemini; hence ability & compulsion to go sex-death-occult muckraking in a way that revolutionised movies. Uranus, Jupiter and North Node conjunct in Saggo/6th House. So, 6th House being what you do for ‘a living’ and to serve society he was destined to innovate it somewhat. If one is gonna get all karma-goo-goo over this, his 12th House South Node would indicate a sage who had reincarnated with the specific purpose of advancing society. His Mars in Aquarius (more iconclasm) is conjunct the Midheaven (drive to fame) and trine Neptune (he liked to get out of it but productively so)…

In April 2011 Neptune crosses Luis Bunuel’s Midheaven and what’s the bet there will be some interesting secrets or new work of his discovered?

Have TOTALLY lost track of Courtney Love.

She’s a Cancerian – it’s her birthday on Saturday and she has Libra Rising. Hence her amazing ability to Scrub Up sensationally well when she wants to. But the reason i’ve lost track ain’t her astro.

She’s currently got Saturn opposing her Chiron and squaring her Mars-Venus in Gemini AND Lilith in Sagg so that buzzy charisma & self-belief would be a bit harder to come by. But Saturn DOES actually move, thank fuq, and she  has a while to get her shit together before Pluto opposes her Sun. Although, Pluto is presently hanging around her South Node so the Past comes up in Plutonic ways …maybe even more info re Nirvana/Kurt Cobain and by Feb.

What I have lost track of is what she represents: Grunge Icon? Ex Riot Grrrl Still Manifesting Feminist/Iconic Music Artiste? Homicidal Ho? Genius? Victim Of Plastic Surgery-N.P.D./Drugs Et Al?  Rock Goddess? Icon of Clean Living Personified? Exhibitionist wannabe?

At the hairdressers the other day I read in one mag that she was on some hideous drug/dangerously thing and in another mag that she has embraced Kundalini Yoga to the point that she has been initiated, is becoming an instructor and altering her name. The Scorpio Sex Academic has such disdain for the woman that she cancelled her Kundalini Yoga teacher training. There were other factors, such as the celibacy, but still.

Courtney Love has a beautiful Cancerian Sun-Moon conjunction in the visionary 9th House and Eros/Mercury on her Leo Midheaven so if she moves half-way to courting her public, they will be there for her. But the last “news” on her actual website is from 2007 – her clean, sober & a Givenchy muse. I thought the Nick Broomfield doco fascinating but also that she could act in that Larry Flynt bio movie…Has she done any music of note lately? Ever?

Astro-Whitney Houston: Can She Come Back?

Whitney Houston, one of the best-selling artistes of all time, has clearly had probs in the last six years or so. Since, actually, Pluto hit her Midheaven.  Not that that transit ought usually to result in a cavalcade of domestic abuse & drug allegations, an especially troubled divorce, litigation with step-parents, more apparent hard drug use and some shocking photos published as proof of the latter.

Now she is set to produce a comeback album – Undefeated – in Sept with one of the songs being I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.  “I didn’t know my own strength/ And I crashed down and I tumbled/ But I did not crumble/ I got through all the pain/ I didn’t know my own strength/ Survived my darkest hour/ My faith kept me alive/ I picked myself back up/ Hold my head up high/ I was not built to break/ I didn’t know my own strength.”

I’m thinking this could be a major moment for Ms Houston as she steps forward into mid-40s divahood, triumphant and -  yes – having overcome her battles to become a beacon for people of all ilks. Even if you don’t like her music, DO admit the lady has a voice. Listening to the stuff on her site, i realised just how much her songs formed a kind of backing soundtrack for my late 80s & 90s. Does her chart sustain a comeback triumph?

Okay, she has some AWESOMELY benevolent & super-powered astro-assets.

She’s a Leo with her Leo Sun conjunct Venus (hotness, beauty, art, talent) and she’s got her Aries Moon conjunct Jupiter. That is like a plucky survivor signifier. Random prediction: will she come out when Uranus crosses Moon-Jupiter in 2014? It would be a fantastic Oprah moment.

Chiron Rising in Pisces; maverick with a message, wounded healer et al. Mercury-Uranus-Pluto in the 6th house (she can work & feels a keen sense of mission to society) & oddly enough, the very same Lilith-Neptune in Scorpio conjunction as George Sand.

As I said, she’s had shite going on in since Pluto hit on her Midheaven back in 2002 but now Pluto is set to trine her Mercury-Pluto-Uranus conjunction in the 6th AND Jupiter is on her Pisces Asc from next Feb. I’m tipping YES, that she can do it & she’ll be an unreal figure of inspiration to people battling their own domestic abuse/drug style issues.

The post-Pluto transit return from hell makeover  moment of glory can be awesome. It would be poignant in the wake of Michael Jackson too, non? I want to see her in full Leoness.  I like how her comeback kicks off as Pluto goes Direct.



The Asteroid Muses

Astro-Fiends & those of you looking for a more expansive view of their career scopes should check out whether they’ve got any of the Muse Asteroids strongly aspected. ie; conjunct Sun, Moon, Ascendent or a major planet. Within two degrees, please. A.k.a. a narrow orb. I have Urania in my creative sector trining the Midheaven (major career point) and Thalia + Sappho conjunct my South Node…The South Node pertains to your past and/or path of least resistance but is most often used as referring to your past lives.

All you do is go Astrodienst and the Extended Chart Options link. At the bottom there, you enter the reference  number (see below) of whichever asteroids you want included. The Muses are Goddesses who inspire excellence in mortals – from them we get the words “amuse” “bemuse” and museum. There are more I am sure. And Sappho – often called the 10th Muse is number 80.

Calliope, the Muse of Epic Poetry. 22,  Clio, the Muse of History. 84,   Erato, the Muse of Love Poetry and Mimicry. 62,  Urania, the Muse of Astronomy & Astrology. 30,  Thalia, the Muse of Comedy. 23,  Terpsichore, the Muse of Dancing. 81, Polyhymnia, the Muse of Mime, Meditation, Agriculture and Rhetoric. 33,  Melpomene, the Muse of Tragic Storytelling. 18,  Euterpe, the Muse of Music. 27

As an experiment, I just looked up the position of Terpsichore, the Muse of Dancing for Isadora Duncan & it is exact conjunct her North Node. The North Node is what draws you into your most desirable future…your destiny. It is where you ought to be tracking toward even though you are naturally good at the South Node stuff. Anyway, this is about the Muses, not Nodes. Darcey Bussell has Terpsichore square her Node and trine her Saturn exact. Annoyingly, i have no birthtimes for these two.

Asteroid-Muse-Tracking would totallly be a fun project for my imaginary intern.

The Raven King

The youngest monarch in the world is Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, the King of Bhutan & he is a 29 year old Pisces….Here he is at his coronation with the Raven Crown. This fantastic article in Vanity Fair has it ALL:  the fabulous Raven Crown, a character named Captain Karma, four beautiful sister-queens, orgasm theory & a ceremonial three-horned white ram. He was crowned at the exact moment chosen by astrologers; 8.21am on November 6 2008.

Sorry but to get the chart any bigger, it’s TOO big. Will work on this but for now, that is the best i can do. From the looks of this chart, the Bhutan court astrologers were aiming to get Saturn exact on the Midheaven (strong leader, visible world authority) and the Moon precisely on the North Node…Destiny, auspicious fate, being drawn toward one’s ‘right’ destiny. I doubt they intended the practically exact Venus-Lilith conjunction. He’ll have an interesting Queen.

D.I.Y. Astro – The Midheaven

This is not a course in astrology but i get loads of questions about this sort of thing so maybe a bit of info will be useful?  You can get a chart off Astrodienst & please just get the vanilla version. I got an e-mail from someone semi-hysterical the other day. She’d worked up her chart & gone for every single extra asteroid, point and even hypothetical planets (Uranian astrology) and it was the first time she’d ever even seen her chart. The e-mail began something like  “HELP ME – I ALWAYS THOUGHT I WAS A LEO BUT I HAVE PRIAPUS, HADES, VERTEX, TWO PARTS OF FORTUNE AND 14674 + my PROGRESSED MOON ALL IN VIRGO…”

Anyway, the Midheaven is the cusp of the 10th house, aka the Brilliant Career sector. You can see it at more or less the top of any chart with the words MC.This is short for “medium coeli” aka middle of the sky aka Midheaven. If you have an exact birthtime, transits to the Midheaven manifest with total resonance for your vocational reality. The sign of the Midheaven and the planets in that 10th house signify your level of fame attained – if any, your public image, professional reputation and point toward your ideal career.

So, for fun or furthering self-understanding, figure out the sign/any planets in the 10th and ponder the scenario. eg; Mars in Saggo/ Saggo Midheaven wouldn’t want to be indoors or beholden to anyone. This is someone who would go bonkers if trying to follow – say – the parental path into a profession. It just reeks of the wilderness, travelling around teaching martial arts, a politician, professional zealot, idealist, horse trainer, surfer, self-employed, wanderer…It is all, obviously, a bit more complicated than this but i.m.o. it is a good starting point. And cool to analyze. On a really shallow level, just consciously trying to ‘do’ your Midheaven sign when it comes to big career matters, seems to work really well.
