I was sitting at my desk snivelling last night – my cold is getting heaps better thank you – and i saw some article about Hugh Hefner. It looked so totally the same as the rest of the five zillion articles on HH (dressing gown, peanut butter sandwiches, Playboy mansion has some mould in it, likes blondes with big tits, still believes in himself as sexual liberator, wishes all his ex-wives the best, is living the American Dream apparently, blah blah blah) that I did not bother to read it.

BUT it did prompt me to look at  his chart. Here, in the interest  of furthering our astro knowledge, is Hugh Hefner’s birthchart. Comments welcome. Here are my thoughts. Totally offhand. He ain’t asking me for help.

* He is Aries Sun with Virgo Rising and a hefty Aquarius Influence…Mars and Jupiter…Much like my Ex-Ramzilla whom, oddly enough, i met when he was working for Penthouse magazine.

* Virgo Rising and with Saturn all over it of late, he must have been hell to live with around the mansion. I can see him zipping around all hours of the AM/PM, leaving narky notes for the cleaners and going absolutely APESHIT at sanitary products left out anywhere. He would be neurotically straightening things and furious at such things as tattoos or punk hair colours. No wonder Kendra took off to marry a hot young cage-fighter. Or am i mixing her up with someone else?

* Okay, see that Sun in the 7th house?  He HAS to be a in a relationship. Genuinely needs it to feel expressed in his life. But then he has the Mercury-Uranus right on the cusp of his House of Love…That’s needing absolute freedom in love so how apt that he sets up a publishing empire (Mercury) based around sexual freedom and a situation where he always has more or less three girlfriends but maybe not the necessity of true intimacy with any of them. Top marks for manifesting Mercury-Uranus so well. And Mercury is his chart ruler…If your chart ruler is aligned with Uranus,  you WILL lead a trail-blazing life, one way or another.

* Moon-Venus in Pisces – idealises women & well, yes.

* Mars-Jupiter in Aquarius – may not be driven so much by sex at ALL…Neptune opposite the Jupiter/Mars — major fantasist but see how he has made his fortune off it…It’s a similar set-up to that of a lot of cartoonists and film-makers; 5th House, Jupiter-Neptune-Mars, Leo/Aquarius involvement.

* Next year he has his Uranus Return! Yes and right on the cusp of his House of Love…What could he do that would SHOCK everyone? Marry someone his own age? Suddenly introduce a hot young himbo into his stable of lovelies? Sue the Pope?

* I think it’s cool that there are more and more peeps out there being full-on self-actualizers (even HH’s kind of archaic version of it) at the time of their Uranus Return…

Oh dear it has to be said. Mercury backed way up into the end of Virgo, within coo-ee of opposing Uranus AND quincunx Jupiter…It’s time to issue a Defcon 5 Drunk Dialling Alert…I also call it Tequila Texting, in honour of a Libran gentleman i know who once sent me what amounted to a short story via text msg. Call it what you will but be on guard against it this weekend. I’d like to think Moon in Capricorn will introduce some decorum to the scenario.

And whilst we are on this topic, two questions. Which Sign Is Most Prone To Drunk Dialling? And what’s been  YOUR most spectacular one? Mercury signs as well if you know them please.

Oh and I just checked – Asteroid Dionysus is approaching Venus. That clinches it. Lock up your phones!

My Mercury-Uranus insight is this. I am not going to be bothered responding to complaints any more. I don’t mean valid ones such as ‘i signed up for Daily Mystic and have not got my password yet’ but just general grizzling to the tune that so & so doesn’t like my style or why don’t i post more about x, y or z. It’s the internet. There is something for everyone. And I work 60 hrs a week and it’s work i love so all good but i  don’t really want to waste creative, cool time on apologising to peeps for…what, exactly????

Anyway, here is the Astro-Query.  I have three clients (women) who are all spies. Professional spies. Lovely ladies. And seriously fascinating stuff they do. They are all the same Sun Sign and what’s  more they all have several planets or Moon/Rising etc in that sign. What sign do you think it is?

“…The queen said she wished it was me that broke into her bedroom….”  Russell Brand

He’s such a Gemini man & I totally didn’t want to like him but Russell Brand’s performance in the otherwise sooo forgettable Forgetting Sarah Marshall – as this really up-himself Boho sex-godly yet inane rock star – is hilarious. In case you don’t know his work, he’s a Brit comic, tall, complicated Goth looking and openly sex-obsessed ex-drug/drink addict who has just chronicled (somehow really amusingly, from the bits I have read) his previously degenerate life in a an autobio. He’s hilarious. Yet vile.

This Daily Beast review nails him and it’s so funny as it coudl describe many a Gemini man, no?

“…Upon first impression, Russell Brand is incredibly charming, gut-bustingly funny and endearingly self-deprecating; the kind of person who makes you feel like you’re the lucky attendee at an exclusive party of you and him. But as time passes, the cloying neediness behind the charm occasionally flickers forward, and the veil of self-deprecation is pulled back to reveal a relentless narcissism. As an experience it’s fascinating, but ultimately exhausting….”

And then Russell Brand describes HIMSELF thus: “If you strip away self-effacement, charm, and the spirit of mischief… you’re left with a right asshole.”

He actually IS a Gemini but his chart (no birthtime) is really interesting:  Venus square Uranus and Mars square Pluto trine Neptune. Mercury trine Uranus. Neptune square Sun.  So his Sun, Mars and Venus are all the subject of tight squares from heavy Outer Planets. So he’s an extremophile and he would have loads of challenges – obviously – to crunch through pre-Saturn-Return. But he’s cracked the code of them and turned what could have been merely an ultimately leaden and merciliess drug etc addiction into gold. And managed to mine the humour…I’m guessing the Neptune is rising in Saggo…I mean, the candour (not just about drugs but about such things as being horrendously fat as a child etc) the height (Sagg Rising usually v.tall) and the camera loves him.

seuss_cat_in_the_hat_fish_stickerToday is the birthday of Dr Seuss a.k.a. Theodor Geisel…ultra-Pisces & surrealist genius.

He was born bang on a bigtime Lunar Eclipse with Mars conjunct Jupiter at Zero degrees Aries (super exuberant and inventive) square Neptune in Cancer (the children’s poet & visionary)…His Mercury in Aquarius conjunct Saturn (!) sextile Uranus and trine Pluto. That Saturn conjunct seems oddly austere for someone so brilliantly playful but consider also his enormous output, professionalism and the longevity of his work, his brand.

My fave Dr Seuss & still sends my teenage son all shivery even now is the one about the pants with nobody in them…I think it’s supposed to be sort of an allegory about how silly most scary stories are…?

Coraline, The Graphic Novel version.

I got this for my 8 y.o. daughter – her Moon in Scorp loves the macabre & Goth end of things but the actual novel too much, I thought. She liked it heaps but i adored it.  It is dense & immersive, a thought-provoking thriller that is amazingly moving. And it’s basically a comic book!

Neil Gaiman is fantastic – Sun, Neptune & Mercury all together in Scorpio squared by Uranus in Leo. So dark, other-worldly, classic sci-fantasy but with a big glam Leo-Uranian quirky flair to it.

I think Sci-Fantasy is going to be big during Pluto in Capricorn – if we’re all going to be working hard and cultivating our kitchen gardens aka Victory Gardens, eating out less & tra-la-la, then nobody is going to want to read depressing-but-worthy prize winning tomes on dysfunctional families & what-not. We’ll want swords, sorcery & people using their wits & ingenuity to overcome scary circumstances.
