“The Kitchen Witch’s Creed

In this pot, I stir to the sun ?An’ follow the rule of harming none.

Banishment of bane when goin’ winddershins; ?An’ with water and salte negativity is cleansed.

Household duties are more than chores, ?Magick abounds when mopping floors.

With this broom, I do sweep ?To clean my house and safely keep.

Marigold, Basil, Thyme and Yarrow ?My spell is cast for a better tomorrow.

Lemons for joy and apples for health, ?The power within brings great wealth.

And, in this kitch I do pray ?To truly walk the Witches Way…”

O i do so love sacred house cleaning, witchy herbs et al & this creed is so cool – does anyone know where it comes from?

And what that black scorp-fish thing is on the floor of the witch-modelle might be and hands up who knows which ritual a lit red candle is required for when one is already poised quite precariously on the rim of an empty cauldron?

Plus, I only just noticed this -who says Mercury in Aries can’t be thick on occasion- is it her leg or her cauldron that is chained up???  Are the art directors seriously so sleazy that they’d either suspect their p.a.s of ripping off their crap cauldron, her of running off or needing to add b/d refs to an already suss large red candle scenario?

Okay guys – the Moon is in Aquarius and nearing Jupiter + Neptune.  This is like Lucid Dreaming Central. I am going to try an old thing i read and i CANNOT recall where it comes from…ancient, i suppose.  They say you get a picture of a Snake and ask it a question just before you go to bed. You put the Snake picture under your pillow and voila – the answer by morning or early the next day.  No i don’t know the origin but the Snake has always been credited with wisdom and in some traditions, knowing every secret in the world.  So who is IN???  We do it tonight, check back in the morning.

And this is cool:

“…It was in Crete that the snake aspect of the Mother Goddess religion reached its highest development and there the beautiful remains of a great civilisation have been unearthed. The snake in Cretan society represented the wisdom of the goddess and was associated with life, death and regeneration. Venerated as a protector of the household, the snake was considered the reincarnation of a dead family member. Special rooms equipped with snake tubes (which enabled snakes to travel through the house) were found in many homes…”

I found this book whilst looking for stuff about Hecate & it looks totally fascinating…Has anyone of you read it?

“…In this groundbreaking book, Leonard Shlain, author of the bestselling Art & Physics, proposes that the process of learning alphabetic literacy rewired the human brain, with profound consequences for culture. Making remarkable connections across a wide range of subjects including brain function, anthropology, history, and religion, Shlain argues that literacy reinforced the brain’s linear, abstract, predominantly masculine left hemisphere at the expense of the holistic, iconic feminine right one. This shift upset the balance between men and women initiating the disappearance of goddesses, the abhorrence of images, and, in literacy’s early stages, the decline of women’s political status. Patriarchy and misogyny followed….

Shlain contrasts the feminine right-brained oral teachings of Socrates, Buddha, and Jesus with the masculine creeds that evolved when their spoken words were committed to writing. The first book written in an alphabet was the Old Testament and its most important passage was the Ten Commandments. The first two reject of any goddess influence and ban any form of representative art.

“…The love of Mary, Chivalry, and courtly love arose during the illiterate Dark Ages and plummeted after the invention of the printing press in the Renaissance. The Protestant attack on holy images and Mary followed, as did ferocious religious wars and neurotic witch-hunts. The benefits of literacy are obvious; this gripping narrative explores its dark side, tallying previously unrecognized costs….”

hecate-400Hecate – William Blake

Like Lilith, Hecate is a Dark Moon Goddess & deals with the more shadowy aspects of our lives. Especially secret woman’s biz. She is sometimes considered a Crone goddess (Crone comes from Chronos, for time) and sometimes a Virgin goddess…but generally she is a Goddess of magic, ghosts, storms, the night, dreams, cross roads and wild animals. She is able to see into all worlds and guards the border between this world and the spirit world.

She is considered the Goddess of Trivia which sounds stupid until you remember that trivia comes from the Latin “tri via” or three streets. A retired Roman soldier was posted at each such junction and was supposed to be able to answer any question at all…no matter how trivial, lol.  Hecate has similarities to Hermes and to Isis along with others. One of the titles was The Distant One and it was her who rescued Persephone when she was taken to the Underworld.

Hecate rules in this time – the Dark Moon & she is who you are meant to call upon when crossing a MAJOR border in your life, to aid in dream messaging and divination or during dark times…If you have a prominent Hecate in your chart, all these themes are infused into your everyday being. She is Asteroid 100 and you can add her into your chart using the Astrodienst Extended Chart Options. This statue of Hecate is in the Vatican City. Ancient, of course, but nobody knows who did it.

phplZny1rAM

In fact, you could see her as a kind  of Lady Pluto when interpreting her in your chart…Go ON have a look! And this is cool too…

“..Lucius Apuleius (c. 123 – c. 170 CE) in his work “The Golden Ass” associates Hecate with Isis:
‘I am she that is the natural mother of all things, mistress and governess of all the elements, the initial progeny of worlds, chief of powers divine, Queen of heaven, the principal of the Gods celestial, the light of the goddesses: at my will the planets of the air, the wholesome winds of the Seas, and the silences of hell be disposed; my name, my divinity is adored throughout all the world in divers manners, in variable customs and in many names, [...] Some call me Juno, others Bellona of the Battles, and still others Hecate. Principally the Ethiopians which dwell in the Orient, and the Egyptians which are excellent in all kind of ancient doctrine, and by their proper ceremonies accustomed to worship me, do call me Queen Isis…” From Wikipedia

Hathor_Bahari3

Every now and then a Taurus e-mails to complain how annoyed they are that their emblem is a Cow but this is SO sacred! Taurus is aligned with the divine Hathor, an ancient forerunner of Isis, Inanna, Aphrodite, Astarte and all.  Pre-patriarchally (yes, it IS that time of the month again) the symbol for Taurus was not the Bull but the Cow. And not just any old cow but the original Holy Cow herself – Hathor…

From her Wikipedia;

“A hymn to Hathor says:

Thou art the Mistress of Jubilation, the Queen of the Dance, the Mistress of Music, the Queen of the Harp Playing, the Lady of the Choral Dance, the Queen of Wreath Weaving, the Mistress of Inebriety Without End.

Essentially, Hathor had become a goddess of joy, and so she was deeply loved by the general population, and truly revered by women, who aspired to embody her multifaceted role as wife, mother, and lover. In this capacity, she gained the titles of Lady of the House of Jubilation, and The One Who Fills the Sanctuary with Joy. The worship of Hathor was so popular that a lot of festivals were dedicated to her honor than any other Egyptian deity, and more children were named after this goddess than any other deity. Even Hathor’s priesthood was unusual, in that both women and men became her priests.

In recent years, the theory of matriarchal cultures existing in profusion before 3,000 B.C.E. has taken root and bring into question the interpretation of Hathor as only wife or only mother. Hathor wears the head-dress of 18 serpents (traditionally associated with wisdom and women), the cows horns (horns were associated with the crescent moon and thus, a woman’s menstrual cycles). Hathor may have, quite possibly, been the original Mother God of the Egyptian citizens….”

circeJohn William Waterhouse

A la the asteroid Circe rave the other day, it’s so cool that i just came upon this! It was in The Goddess Companion, by Patricia Monaghan, one of my fave books ever…

First she quotes Homer & then there is her rave;

“Then we met the magician Circe. Lions and mountain wolves walked peacefully with her, enchanted by her presence. They came up to the sailors, tails wagging, making friendly gestures, fawning like dogs do when their owners return home from dining out, fawning like dogs do when they hope for treats; so these wild animals acted, animals with claws and fangs, in the presence of that enchantress…”

Homer – The Odyssey.

“Like many other powerful ancient goddesses, the Greek divinity Circe was later demonized, turned into a figure that evoked fear and distrust. Originally, Circe was a sun goddess, at home on her bright island whose circular shape was that of the solar sphere – an image echoed in her name as well. But as newcomers to her land rejected the feminine power she embodied, Circe was demoted to a voluptuous temptress-witch, who threatened the wandering Ulysses. Yet her original power was never utterly lost; it shines through the words of ancient poets like Homer.”

Circe was an enchantress who had a year long relationship with the hero-warrior Ulysses. It was a bit complicated as she first tried to put a spell on him & she also turned his team of trusty helpers into swine. Plus he was married. The accounts vary but her father was the Sun-God Helios/Apollo & her mother either the Goddess of Witches – Hecate or a sea nymph. Circe was an accomplished mistress of metamorphing, a skilled herbalist, necromancer and illusionist. The term “holy moly” is linked to her tale. Moly is an old name for the flower Snowdrop, the essence of which Ulysses used as an antidote to her witchy potion.

Astrologically, she is asteroid number 34. You can use the Extended Chart Options on Astrodienst to see where Circe is in your chart or anyone elses and by transit. Not much is said about asteroid Circe in astrology – she would clearly be an influence of magic, cunning & libido. She is loosely trine my Ascendent but i weirdly found asteroid Circe to be present by transit a lot…Theoretically, she’d come in handy for betwitching men…At the moment she’s at 10 Libra. A man with Circe near his Moon, Venus or Descendent would find himself unfathomably drawn to witches.

Sexy Druid Warriors always aid one’s interest in ye olde Celtic practices.

Celtic Astrology is fascinating, of course, but like Geomancy (the Celtic version of Feng Shui) not nearly enough is known about it, thanks to the persecution and genocide of the Pagans.

It has it’s own Zodiac & we’re all trees! I think it’s beautiful, though sadly incomplete…We are soon in the time of the Hazel Tree:

“20 July – 16 August

The Hazel was the tree of wisdom and it was a crime punishable by death to fell one. It was thought magical skills and knowledge could be gained from eating Hazel nuts. Hazel people are artistic. They have lively, analytical minds and make inspiring teachers. Imaginative, they are radical and idealistic thinkers.

The Ruling Deity – The Sea God Manannan Mac Lir, a master of disguise, rules this sign.

The Druic Animal – Salmon – To the Celts, the Salmon is the oldest and wisest animal, symbolizing inspiration – Hazels need to express their creativity or they can become morbid and introspective

Planetary Ruler – Mercury

Ogham Word – Coll”

YOU can go read the rest at the above Celtic Astro link. Or just Google but be aware that peeps bicker a LOT over Celtic Astrology. And if you click on the witch-burning link, that damned book (Malleus Malificarum) was like a best-seller. Can you believe it? I read the whole thing one go on a day long ago in a sterile but comforting university library & found it so scary. It’s so dry and legal. But imagine your local council using it as their handbook. I had to keep looking up to remind myself that i was surrounded by trees, freedom, laws and relaxed students of all races & sexual identity, religion et al.

And what Tree are U? Does it FIT?

trump_02_thepriestessThe High Priestess in the Thoth Deck

In a Tarot reading, the High Priestess popping up means there is a secret, a mystery behind the query and/or a karmic situation that you cannot understand yet. It can mean that something clandestine is about to emerge. Of course there are way more esoteric interps for the High Priestess. I am tres simple with my Tarot readings. But it’s always bliss to see  her. It may also be a sign to be comfortable not knowing the meaning or outcome of a scenario but trusting that there is a cosmic intent behind it.

If you see The Empress as the sensual aspect of the Feminine Divine, then the High Priestess is her more mystical aspect. A.k.a La Papesse, the Lady Pope…this links her to the fascinating myth (?) of Pope Joan. In the classic Waite pic of her, below, there are pomegranates which link her to Persephone & the headgear a la the Egyptian Isis.

There is a statue of her in a Welsh village called Portmeirion

And even though he’s apparently gone bust,  Christian Lacroix managed to send a homage to her down the runway the other day; Nice as, actually, he is a Taurus & this is the astro correspondence most oft linked with the High Priestess.

fireplace-hearth-stone

Don’t freak but the fastest Feng-Shui/Good Housewitchery style fix you can do for prosperity is to clean your oven. Way more so than buying little knick-knacks or those pots of gold thingies. The oven is like a symbolic hearth – picture ye olde hearths which never went out & everything was cooked on them. Cleaning an oven may seem super-grotty but it’s amazing how often, if you get in there & just attack it with glee, something good happens financially v.quickly. As in within 24 hours. Broken ovens are, of course, shocking Feng.

The Celtic Fire Goddess Brigid is connected to the hearth, as is Vesta/Hestia.  Your Vesta sign & house placement is where you’re dedicated to keeping some sort of inner flame alive. Tending your Vesta area as if it were a fire you had to keep alive works wonders in terms of peace & prosperity. It’s where hard work & dedication totally pay off. She’s like a more sensual Saturn. You can check out Vesta via the extended chart options on Astrodienst.  And then go clean your oven!!!

BTW: i think the whole vestal virgin was that they didn’t marry – not so much that they virgins. That was prob a spin put on it by the Christians.
