Epsom Salts

two-toed-slothThe sloth is the world’s slowest mammal, so sedentary that algae grows on its furry coat. It sleeps in trees, for up to 20 hours a day.

It’s Dark Moon time again! That is, the Moonwane phase which goes from now right through until the fabulous New Moon on Sunday which kicks off the Auspicious Aqua-Weirding of late May/early June.  Now, one is supposed to rest during the Dark Moon. Not slack off a la our lovely Sloth- above – but it is the best time to do restorative things.

Countering that is Saturn in Virgo – Saturn in Virgo does not take days off. A Saturn in Virgo “day off” is time taken away from the core work to scour some pots, savagely unclutter (the best Dark Moon activity apart from Epsom Salts baths) and sort one’s financial records. And Mars in Aries self-actualises 24-7; a blur of activity & chutzpah + “I love you, I forgive you” affirmations into the bathroom mirror.

The solution is to see your relative rest phase of the Dark Moon as performance enhancing. And obviously one can’t take the whole thing OFF nor even any of it, most likely – I haven’t even mentioned Pluto in Capricorn here – but pull back a bit on the socialising & non-essential junkets. Schedule a massage or try to bung one of those ten minute meditation tracks on your iPod & fit that in. The Epsom Salts baths, the uncluttering, the mega-nourishing macrobiotic food style situation.

And the Auspicious Aqua-Weirding means that something amazing is brewing in the late Aquarius sector of your chart even as I type this.

Salt is insanely magic. Especially sea salt. Nearly every single culture considers it protective.  Voodoo, Pagan, Hindu…Various ye olde lore has it that you can put a line of salt across your threshold to keep those would wish you ill out, put in a circle around you to do a spell ‘in private’ and sprinkle it in all corners of your house/a room. Bathing in salt (Dead Sea Salt is incredible, so are Epsom Salts) is a powerful purification ritual – you sleep deeply & peacefully afterward. It sounds so daffy, but it really does seem to lift negative vibes.

In Flying Star Feng Shui, one of the most commonly used cures for the notorious ‘5′ star is a glass bowl full of pure water and a handful of sea salt. The 5 is, incidentally, in the North sector this Chinese year. Though you would have to get a proper Feng Shui consult to find out where it was in your house. And then there is the classic chucking salt over your left shoulder for luck.  Salt scrubs cleanse your aura & obviously, exfoliate. Salt is also widely used in ghost-busting & exorcism work.
