Just the other day, I was raving on re how wowed out i was/am (The Ultimate New Dating Book For The Auspicious Aqua-Weirding) by the premise of Francesca Lia Block’s Wood Nymph Meets Centaur.  It’s a mythological dating guide, using the archetypes from ancient legend to inform and inspire us on our love & relationship sagas today. I am thinking like a more readily accessible and modern version of the Robert Johnson He, She and We Books.

Anyway, I interviewed her…!

Mystic: You have exactly the same Rising Sign and Degree of Sagittarius as my friend the Scorpio Sex Academic. Do you also tell really risque stories/gossip at mega-decibel volume level in crowded restaurants?

Francesca:  No but I write really risque stories and share them with my friends in my kitchen or bedroom.

Mystic: Your book wowed me out the moment I read about it in Jezebel.   It is a sensational idea. And a fresh voice in what has become a swamp of treat-him-mean-to-keep-him-keen OR Law of Attraction dating books.  Are people just adoring it? Does this magical approach  to dating work?

Francesca: It has worked for me. It helped me gain perspective and not take things as personally. It helped me to laugh at weird situations and I found it comforting to turn to the mythologies I love so much while I was trying to understand the strange world of dating.

Mystic:  It must surely have a crossover to astrology, do  you think?

Francesca:  There is a brief astrology section that tells which signs often match up with or govern the different types.

Mystic: My copy has not arrived yet but I from what I glean, I think I might be a mermaidenly type and I came out of a long marriage to a Woodsman and then proceeded to have affairs with Satyrs…How easy do you make it to figure out the archetypes and does it also go into the classic relationship patterns the different ones form?

Francesca: I give a quiz and detailed descriptions of the types and then it pairs up all  twelve female types with all twelve male types (with a few same sex couples at the end)

Mystic: You are having a Neptune-Moon transit right now – your Moon in Aquarius with Neptune conjoining it, are you finding that your approach to mothering has morphed, you’re super sensitive to substances (even just coffee) and your dreams are really lucid? Fab for writing.

Francesca; I’m always changing my approach to mothering, with the one constant being my intense love for my kids.  I’m always super sensitive to substances. My waking dreams h ave been amazingly lucid lately.

Mystic: Saturn is on your Midheaven at 3 Libra – this is major, like a climax of a trip that began back in 1980. As a teenager then, did you think in
terms of mythology and dating? And can  you see the Saturn progression and links?  I would have LOVED to have this book as a teenager because I read a lot of myth and I thought like that.

Francesca: I didn’t date as a teenager; I just  fell in love or was alone.  I didn’t connect mythology with my relationships per se but now that I look back I can define the boys and men I was with using this system.  I see the links between that time and this because at that age I was facing a similar crisis to the one that I am now and a little after that I was experiencing a similar magic that I am experiencing now.

Mystic: Saturn on your Midheaven is also about success, more fame and it is  being squared by Pluto – do you think your relationships/self image is
altering due to success/career. What changes are you noticing with Saturn-Pluto so powerful in your chart right now?

Francesca; I am feeling more connected to the outer image I put out into the world (promoting myself, being in touch  with my readers online) but I try to stay focused on the work first and foremost.

Mystic: You’ve got Mars in Leo in the 8th house – is Mars in Leo now until next June turning you into a power-crazed megalomaniac? And if so, how are you reconciling that with the witchier, more solo Neptune-Moon vibe?

Francesca: I am a power crazed megalomaniac in the realm of writing stories and I am witchy at night with my beloved.

Mystic: What are, please, the main archetypal characters?

Francesca; Male types: Centaur, Giant, Urban Elf, Woodsman, Werewolf, Hob, Faun, Tree Elf, Vampire, Garden Elf, Merman. Satyr.  Female Types: Wood Nymph, Tess, Urban Elf girl, Pixie, Weregirl, Hobby, Brownie, Dryad, Vamp, Mermaid, Banshee, Fairy.

Mystic: What would Blanche in Streetcar Named Desire be? And what do you think  Brad and Angelina are? Jennifer Aniston?

Francesca; Brad is Woodsman Angie is Mer-shee (mermaid and banshee)   Jennifer is a Pixie. I am thinking that Blanche is a Mermaid/Weregirl?

Jupiter Direct!

YAY! Jupiter is Direct today!!!! Tues night is thus perfect for some grandiose resolutions. Remember it’s Jupiter in Aquarius so make them as ostentatious,  utopian and bats as possible. It’s Jupiter so nix self-doubt with Saggo-style gusto. It’s the Dark Moon so you are still resting in prep for the seriously full on new phase starting next week – these resolutions  need not be affirmed with champagne or yelling. Jupiter is heading forward to conjunct Chiron and Neptune again – the Auspicious Aqua-Weirding is on again. Think: Unusual ways to totally reinvent everything and turn it into a haute Aquarius vision of modern living. Yes, despite Pluto in Cap & whatever Saturn is doing du jour.

Dionysus Opposing Neptune!

Here is our lovely lady Kate, Lead Maenad of the world, in leopardskin again. This is a la the previous post re the followers of Wine & Debauch God Dionysus identifying themselves by wearing leopardskin print.

Now this week asteroid 3671 (if you wanna look it up in your chart, you can whack it in via the Astrodienst Extended Options) a.k.a. Dionysus is in LOUD LEO & opposite Chiron and Neptune…What does this mean??? Well, to  me it resonates in that there has been an endless array of mega-scary anti-booze articles (the opposition to healthful Chiron) and yet if one does go on le turps this weekend, it will be O.T.T. indeed, as the opposition from Dionysus to Neptune suggests.

Oh and a Full Moon in Neptune-Ruled Pisces…So it’s either quiet Theta-Brain-Waved meditation & salt bathing whilst reading Women Who Run With The Wolves

Are you a Leo born mid-August??? You have Dionysus conjunct your Sun & it’s very hard for you NOT to be ostentatiously out someplace talking shit & drinking champagne in your most LOUD of outfits. Tell any peeps who complain that they’re lucky there are not any stags or panthers about, elst you’d be off on a wild Full Moon nude galloping session.

OMG, what a fantastic pick-up line. Whom says Virgoans are prudish????  Never me.

More: “A liberated, passionate, mystical-erotic, half irrational, who within 1890 to 1930 represented Europe’s outermost modernity…” I don’t know much about her – she had her first kiss with Gustav Klimt , her husband told her she was not allowed to compose her own music so she agreed but then turned sex and being a Muse into sort of a whole new art form.

The astrological Alma is interesting…Uranus conjunct her Virgo Sun, Moon in Pisces, Venus in Libra opposed by Saturn (older husband trying to quell her spirits etc) and -this is the wildest for astro-fiends: Mars, Pluto, Neptune and Chiron all conjunct in Taurus. Ultra Obstinate and a radical a la Uranian Sun. But sooo earthy -hence the libido, i guess.

You Know You’re An Astro-Fiend When…

How to tell if one is an astro-fiend? I think probably one just knows…No?
I think maybe it’s if you have one or two dog-eared, scribbled on ephemerides & if you had to go some silly hypothetical desert island, the ephemeris would be your book of choice…Astro-fiends also have astro-fads: A Chiron jag here, progressed composite charts there..Arabic Parts…But I think THE thing that makes one an astro-fiend (and it’s probably a stupid term, i agree) is that the moment they hear of astrology, they’re drawn to it. That’s it – voomp. An astrophiliac for ever.
And, eerily, the study of it feels just soooo familiar. It is also a beautiful link back into the people who’ve lived before us, being able to gaze at the same stars, maybe read their pontifications on a transit of Venus…

Mars Passes The Saturn Square: Can You Feel It?

Mars has now completed the square to Saturn in Virgo and is now zooming onto trine (favourable, easy) the Auspicious Aqua-Weirding (Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune all in Aquarius) and then square Uranus. The latter is still challenging but it feels a hell of a lot more progressive & enlightened than the Mars-Saturn bingle.

So you should be feeling a bit of the merde lift around about now???  Going from feeling like you’re like Bugs in the top pic to something a bit more akin to Bugs below??? Yes?

Neptunian Moon

In the sky right now, you can see Jupiter below and to the right of the Moon….if you had alien-style eye sight, you would also be able to see Neptune & Chiron. So it’s the Moon in Aquarius whizzing along to conjoin Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune…A rare degree of emo insight if you can STAND the Aquarian energy & amazing dreams too…

Random Aqua-Man Note: I rang an Aquarian man today as he’d been calling, texting and e-mailing me for ages but i’ve been too busy & distracted…So i call him and i could SENSE his deflation that i’d called back. It was like i was the Road-Runner, stopping for a nap in the middle of the road. No more thrilling ordering of crap bird catching contraptions and rocket launchers  from Acme. No more Quest.  I have said it before and I will say it again, Aqua-Men are poster boys for ‘treat-him-mean-keep-him-keen’…

AND, for reasons i can  not eludicate here, those of you peeps who enjoy this site but have not yet subscribed to even the Daily Mystic (it is but $5.50 a month), please consider it…it is a way of keeping this site here!

Have TOTALLY lost track of Courtney Love.

She’s a Cancerian – it’s her birthday on Saturday and she has Libra Rising. Hence her amazing ability to Scrub Up sensationally well when she wants to. But the reason i’ve lost track ain’t her astro.

She’s currently got Saturn opposing her Chiron and squaring her Mars-Venus in Gemini AND Lilith in Sagg so that buzzy charisma & self-belief would be a bit harder to come by. But Saturn DOES actually move, thank fuq, and she  has a while to get her shit together before Pluto opposes her Sun. Although, Pluto is presently hanging around her South Node so the Past comes up in Plutonic ways …maybe even more info re Nirvana/Kurt Cobain and by Feb.

What I have lost track of is what she represents: Grunge Icon? Ex Riot Grrrl Still Manifesting Feminist/Iconic Music Artiste? Homicidal Ho? Genius? Victim Of Plastic Surgery-N.P.D./Drugs Et Al?  Rock Goddess? Icon of Clean Living Personified? Exhibitionist wannabe?

At the hairdressers the other day I read in one mag that she was on some hideous drug/dangerously thing and in another mag that she has embraced Kundalini Yoga to the point that she has been initiated, is becoming an instructor and altering her name. The Scorpio Sex Academic has such disdain for the woman that she cancelled her Kundalini Yoga teacher training. There were other factors, such as the celibacy, but still.

Courtney Love has a beautiful Cancerian Sun-Moon conjunction in the visionary 9th House and Eros/Mercury on her Leo Midheaven so if she moves half-way to courting her public, they will be there for her. But the last “news” on her actual website is from 2007 – her clean, sober & a Givenchy muse. I thought the Nick Broomfield doco fascinating but also that she could act in that Larry Flynt bio movie…Has she done any music of note lately? Ever?

Eclipse Eurekas: The One Minute Genius

With an Eclipse like this, there ought to be some Eureka Moments & as we’re talking about an Eclipse in energy conservative Capricorn, they can most likely be expressed in one sentence, sans waffle.

So, please feel free to share any Eureka Moments you have enjoyed over the last few days, if you can put them into one sentence. An explanation may follow the One Sentence, especially if it pertains to how your genius-attack fits the theme of Full Moon Eclipse in Capricorn.

Smarty-pants Astro-Fiends: feel free to fling in Lilith so close to the Moon, the trine from Saturn to the Moon & Mars sextile Uranus. It’s the latter that gives this Full Moon Eclipse that extra ZING of an emancipating breakthrough.

My One Sentence Eureka Realisation Du Jour: That it’s completely cool to think some people are idiots and not care if they like me or not.

Explanation: I KNOW this is ravingly obvious to a lot of people but my Libran Moon so wants to be liked by everyone & I can sometimes feel guilty (Saturn is currently opposing my Chiron, thank you) for not being Hay enough.

You know: “I give Joy, Warm Acceptance & Light to the World and it to me…” and my lilac aura swells with holistic hubris. But a certain variety of person has been absolutely weird & beastly to me of late, attempting to take my totally for a lend or whatever t.f. the cliche is AND as the Full Moon shone in my skylight the other night at about 3am, I suddenly thought “fuq it” – it’s fine to tell them to get stuffed…in my mind or otherwise.

Am sure you lot can be more concise in your one minute Eclipse Eurekas than I.

Astro-Whitney Houston: Can She Come Back?

Whitney Houston, one of the best-selling artistes of all time, has clearly had probs in the last six years or so. Since, actually, Pluto hit her Midheaven.  Not that that transit ought usually to result in a cavalcade of domestic abuse & drug allegations, an especially troubled divorce, litigation with step-parents, more apparent hard drug use and some shocking photos published as proof of the latter.

Now she is set to produce a comeback album – Undefeated – in Sept with one of the songs being I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.  “I didn’t know my own strength/ And I crashed down and I tumbled/ But I did not crumble/ I got through all the pain/ I didn’t know my own strength/ Survived my darkest hour/ My faith kept me alive/ I picked myself back up/ Hold my head up high/ I was not built to break/ I didn’t know my own strength.”

I’m thinking this could be a major moment for Ms Houston as she steps forward into mid-40s divahood, triumphant and -  yes – having overcome her battles to become a beacon for people of all ilks. Even if you don’t like her music, DO admit the lady has a voice. Listening to the stuff on her site, i realised just how much her songs formed a kind of backing soundtrack for my late 80s & 90s. Does her chart sustain a comeback triumph?

Okay, she has some AWESOMELY benevolent & super-powered astro-assets.

She’s a Leo with her Leo Sun conjunct Venus (hotness, beauty, art, talent) and she’s got her Aries Moon conjunct Jupiter. That is like a plucky survivor signifier. Random prediction: will she come out when Uranus crosses Moon-Jupiter in 2014? It would be a fantastic Oprah moment.

Chiron Rising in Pisces; maverick with a message, wounded healer et al. Mercury-Uranus-Pluto in the 6th house (she can work & feels a keen sense of mission to society) & oddly enough, the very same Lilith-Neptune in Scorpio conjunction as George Sand.

As I said, she’s had shite going on in since Pluto hit on her Midheaven back in 2002 but now Pluto is set to trine her Mercury-Pluto-Uranus conjunction in the 6th AND Jupiter is on her Pisces Asc from next Feb. I’m tipping YES, that she can do it & she’ll be an unreal figure of inspiration to people battling their own domestic abuse/drug style issues.

The post-Pluto transit return from hell makeover  moment of glory can be awesome. It would be poignant in the wake of Michael Jackson too, non? I want to see her in full Leoness.  I like how her comeback kicks off as Pluto goes Direct.
