Everyone has a Lord or a Lady of their chart. It is the ruler of your Ascendent. As this is fairly ancient ye olde worlde astro, a lot of peeps think you should consider the ‘old’ rulers to be in effect. eg; If you have Pisces Rising, you would say  you are ‘ruled’ by Jupiter, not Neptune. But I don’t bother with this because I have Aquarius Rising and I’d rather be Uranian than Saturnine.

So, the idea is not that you owe allegiance to some feudal overlord or capricious dame such as the Moon BUT that  you keep a v.close eye on the Lord/Lady as it is v.likely to be super-significant.  You might also like to think in terms of developing/enhancing some of the qualities associated with that planet. eg; Say you have Aries Rising – Mars is your Lord…You would do well to be actively competitive & move hard on winning in the areas of the chart where Mars is transitting.

The chart ruler is v.important in Horary astrology, where you ask a question and run a chart for the moment of the question.

January Jones Harpers Bazaar - June 2009 Uk (1)

Yes, Mad Men’s  January Jones was born in January, a triple Capricorn, in fact: Sun, Venus and Juno. Note cheekbones, glacial cool vibe et al. I’d think Aries Rising, from her brows alone. She’s named after January Wayne, a character in Jacqueline Susann’s Once Is Not Enough.  Had the parents read it (?!), one wanders.

Anyway, two things. I read in a magazine at a cafe that she has the word “bellatrix” (Latin for female warrior) white-inked onto her wrist. I love that. So annoying now that when i go to google bellatrix i get only the Harry Potter character and an infusion of Helena Bonham Carter.

Second thing; January Jones’ chart is an interesting illo of astrology; Triple Cap, as I said and with Uranus, Vesta, Pallas-Athene and Moon all in Scorpio – very good for playing a woman with a lot of burning interior material.  A big vengeful too. Note how she bided her time and then slagged her ex (Ashton Kutcher, Aqua man to the max) to the greatest effect and had his “lack of support” widely reported.

But her breakthrough role as Betty Draper and increasing prominence has coincided with two astrological transits:  Jupiter on her Part Of Fortune AND Pluto opposite her natal Jupiter.  Anything with Pluto and Jupiter involved has the potential to be what i call a ‘mogul transit’ – even if it is a so-called hard aspect.

And we were going on about the Part of Fortune & luck etc just the  other day!

phph1guIQAMAnyone who is or whom has ever known an Aries knows that they are nothing if not positive. A bit boombastic & up themselves, for sure. But if you need a swift pep-talk,  a blast of optimistic perspective or motivation to get off your bum…Aries is your guy. Or girl.

Also, the part of your chart where you HAVE Aries is where you are damn well unsinkable. Someone comes along and wallops you there, you leap right up again. It’s where you mouth off, are given to a bit of a fight and will never-ever give in. You are competitive and determined to out-do, out-live, out-shine and out-thrive all your enemies. You’re a bit crazy in the ‘house’ or ’sector’ of your chart where you have Aries but you don’t care.

Aries Rising or in the 1st house – you probably ARE a fighter for a living. Aries in the 4th: real estate fiend. Do not fuq with this person’s domestic bliss. Aries in the 9th: Gets into fist-fights over politics if given half the chance. Academically competitive. Aries in the 3rd: hits the roof if dissed by anyone or at mere hint of familiarity. You get the idea?

Aries is the sign of GORM.   There was, btw, a King Gorm of Denmark. I wonder if this where the term ‘gormless’ came from?

“If one is a greyhound, why try to look like a pekingese,” enquired the acerbic Virgoan Edith Sitwell – a biography of her was called A Unicorn Among Lions and there are natural echoes of The Ugly Duckling.

But the interesting astro idea is that your Rising and/or Ascendent sign really IS your best look.  If you do not know your Rising/Ascendent sign, you can figure it out via Astrodienst or via an astrologer. Once you have it, read that along with your Sun sign in any scope…See how it feels…

Do you embody your Rising Sign astrologically? It makes fashion/image a LOT easier once you accept it and – for astro-fiends only, look at the house placement of your ruling planet (ruler of the ascendent) for the BASE energy of your Look…I swear it makes AMAZING sense upon pondering. You can also have fun looking to fashion/image choices at 7 year intervals – 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42 etc – as these are all strong Saturn-Uranian flashpoints.

And of course if you have any BIG outer planet (Uranus, Pluto, Neptune) sitting on our Ascendent (such transits take at least 18 months) then  will perform a spectacular makeover, ready or NOT.  Ascendent astro WORKS. If you need to buy new clothes, wait until Venus is hovering nearby your Asc. Anyway, I am interested in the query – does your look embody your rising sign?

Aries Rising would need bold, primary colours – especially red. Taurus old world luxe & texture v.important. Gemini – trend fiend. Kataka would SO slink around in vintage. Leo, like a Versace look & blinged  up with golden aura. Virgo; precise, layered and with some thought behind it. Libra; classic bombshell. Scorpio; black leather, Sagg; boho & gear from their travels. Cap; austere, power. Aqua; prob the same thing ALL the time but it works? Pisces; crystally yoga wear & aura enhancing hues…
