“The modern English words “night”, “nocturnal”, and “equinox” (as well as the French “la nuit”, meaning night) are all derived from Nut’s name. Nut’s symbols are the stars, the night sky, and cows. Lapis Lazuli is also sacred to Her. Nuit is associated with Thursday and also with March. “

Have been reading this fab book about Magic Words & amongst many things, it says that the word “amen” – most usually uttered at the end of a Christian Prayer such as grace is actually referring to the Ancient Egyptian creator God; Amon or Amun.  I completely love it when ancient Gods, Goddesses and archetypes show themselves to be so woven with our officially non-magical life now.  Does anyone know anything about this?  He’d have to be a Trickster Deity as well, to have so successfully ensured the ongoing use of the name in a worshipful context. No?

When I got Ancient Egyptomania as a child, i stopped at Isis & Osiris. He was before them. Scanning the Wiki, Amon/Amun seems akin to Jupiter and with a strong Aries vibe, as you see by the Ram references;

“…In Libya there remained a solitary oracle of Amun in the Libyan Desert at the oasis of Siwa. Such was its reputation among the Classical Greeks that Alexander the Great journeyed there after the battle of Issus and during his occupation of Egypt, where he was declared the son of Amun by the oracle. Alexander thereafter considered himself divine. Even during this occupation, Amun, identified by these Greeks as a form of Zeus, continued to be the principal local deity of Thebes during its decay.

Several words derive from Amun via the Greek form, Ammon: ammonia and ammonite. The Romans called the ammonium chloride they collected from deposits near the Temple of Jupiter Amun in ancient Libya ’sal ammoniacus’ (salt of Amun) because of proximity to the nearby temple. foraminifera. Both these foraminiferans (shelled Protozoa) and ammonites (extinct shelled cephalopods) bear spiral shells resembling a ram’s, and Ammon’s, horns. Ammonia, as well as being the chemical, is a genus name in the

The regions of the hippocampus in the brain are called the cornu ammonis – literally “Amun’s Horns”, due to the horned appearance of the dark and light bands of cellular layers…”

Amen?

31183Someone sent me this site - a new agie thing all about Ancient Egyptian metaphysics. Apparently – and I had never heard of this before & I’ve loved Ancient Egypt mythology et al since the age of about 4 – i had hieroglyphic pyjamas – they had their own version of Feng Shui – called Wedi Maat & a kind of Reiki…Hai Djerit. Every few years it seems some nouveau ancient form of energy healing or ‘art of placement’ emerges. But i think the reason Feng Shui, for instance, is so pervasive is that they have been consistently developing & evolving for thousands of years. And it is part of a wider whole body of learning…acupuncture etc.

Still, i love the idea of another batty pyramid-mania phase. My Aquarian Uncle ordered a mini pyramid in the 80s – he’d put blunt razor blades beneath it over night, because they were meant to be miraculously sharp by the morning & leave money there as well…in case it multiplied. Neither worked. The makers  of the mini-pyramid (purple, plastic) probably got the Sacred Geometry wrong.

There is an Egyptian astrology site here (am NOT endorsing it). I am an “Isis, known for my solidarity and cultivation of nobility.”

Sekhmet, the Lion Headed Goddess…a brilliant poem by Margaret Atwood.

The Moon is in Leo & through until Sunday, a fittingly dramatic backdrop for the Venus-Pluto square. Hard to hide a THING under such flamboyant stars. So you may as well be brave & bedazzling.

“…I am the Passion of Lightning and the Command of Thunder,
What exists, IS, because I have Willed it To Be.
I am the Queen of Heaven in a Mansion of Fire,
I am First among those in the Great Sky-Boat of Eternity…”

From Hymn To Sekhmet – the rest is here… It is actually from the Egyptian Book Of The Dead but have not linked to THAT.

“…coins and statues have been discovered at a cemetery near of the Temple of Taposiris Magna in Egypt, a possible site for the remains of Antony and Cleopatra. Last month, it used radar to find three deep shafts leading to three “spots of interest” under the temple, the Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities said….More here.

Antony And Cleopatra

Together they stood watching on the terrace
As Egypt fell asleep under a stifling heaven
And the Nile rolled its fatness down to cleave
Its own black delta, to Sais or to Bubastis

The Roman soldier, now a prisoner caught
Nursing a sleepy child, under the weight of his cuirass
Feels the luxurious body he embraces
Bend and give way on his triumphant heart.

Turning her face, pale in brown hair, to meet
This man half-drunk on her invincible scents,
Now she holds up her mouth and her clear eyes.

Bent over her, the Imperator sees
In her wide pupils starrd with golden points
An immeasurable sea with ships in flight.

David Pybus is a “21st Century alchemist & aromancer” who is a.k.a the Perfume Hunter/the Indiana Jones of the fragrance world. He attempts to recreate ancient scents…a la this sort of thing…That annoying numeral 1 cannot be removed. I think he a Taurus. Love the scents & insanely want them all…Or do? I was just googling for a Pompeii image & managed to totally freak myself out. Maybe is better to have one’s scent In The Now…But sensational idea & way more interesting than some of those ghastly bog freshener style scents. I could crap on re this for ages AND have just realised that the Moon in Libra is precisely conjunct MY Moon…as i type.

  1. “…Head spacing the substances found (stealing their aromas through scientific instrumentation) as with Nenúfar, the flower’s perfume was diffused into a polymer filter with the air around it and then reconstructed as the aroma of the Blue Lotus, a bloom sacred to all Pharaohs. The flower’s chemistry contained a hallucinogen, myristicin. Egyptians got high steeping the petals in wine and drinking the wine. (The poem ‘The Land of the Lotus Eaters’ depicts this). The chemistry of the flower’s perfume is kept intact with the humble nutmeg spice, which contains myristicin.
  2. Reconstruction from materials found, as with Pyxis, derived from floral, herbal and spice spores found in the garden of a perfumer, believed to be called Sperato, at Pompeii. These, along with substances garnered from the four corners of Empire, re-created Pyxis. A pixie fresco on the wall at the House of the Vetii in Pompeii gave the fragrance its name.…”

I have a few e-mails re why i altered the Sun Sign name for Cancer to Kataka in the Nightly Scopes. The e-mails are amazingly non-narky. Okay, Cancer is Latin for Crab and the Crab is ONE of the symbols for the constellation that the Sun travels through from late June to late July. ie; if you born then, you are deemed “a Cancer.” Moon-Ruled, a mood-swinger, a sexy empath, nostalgic, home-loving & a fiend in biz. But the name has come to be more linked to oncological disorders.

I got a really emo yet lovely  letter from a Cancerian girl writing from her boarding school & I was about to send her back this long-winded explanation. But then i just thought screw it & changed the name of it. For her. She said that whenever she googles her sign, it comes up with a disease and that it made her feel sad, sick and ugly etc etc.

Sooo another symbol for this sign is the Ancient Egyptian sacred scarab – symbol of immortality. In fact, i think – this is arguable – that the Scarab WAS the symbol for the sign until a myth involving Hercules & a Crab. Anyway, in the Nightly Scopes, Cancer is renamed Kataka – Sanskrit for Crab, Native American for “fort” and the name of Buddha’s horse.  It all fits and there is a boarding school dormitory in the country where it’s already official.

Yes, the Moon zipped into Leo at 15.44 Sydney time – early AM in the Northern Worlds & I totally grokked the shift. One moment all Cancerian & herbal, a swim in the beautiful ocean and then attempting to communicate with my pennyroyal plants…Voomp: Leo Moon felt like a blast of jungle fever. And of course it is waxing toward being Full and thus in opposition to the Aquarius Sun. It’s a Lunar Eclipse with Chiron and Neptune near to the Sun – brilliant for art, magic, meditation, spiritual love, glamour, miracles, compassion transcendental genius and insights.

Fab also for dipsomania & delusions, old-style stupidity via misplaced sympathy. Not a good Moon to do drugs…Fantastic for dreams, telepathy, divination and blending the objectivity & idealism of Aquarius with Leo verve to affirm resolutions of spirit, beauty , strength, power, art…Yes, even amidst the vile, horribly sad & disturbing news days that seem so often to coincide with Eclipses.
