Your “astro-signature” is your Ascendent (aka Rising Sign) Sun Sign and Moon Sign.  This is totally arguable but they are the three most dominant points in your chart. And what’s fun is seeing how well they all get along.

For instance, you can see that having – say – Moon in Leo with Sagittarius Rising would be like a party. Moon in Leo would love the Sagg Risings ability to scare up a good time & Saggo Rising would love the take-anywhere nature of Moon in Leo.  Add in the Sun in Libra for some smooth elegance and voila…a harmonious astro-signature. No discordance.

A Taurus-Pisces-Virgo blend? Easy.

But what if you’re an Aries Sun hiding behind a sultry Scorpio Ascendent? More tricky.

So thinking about the potential relations between your Sun, Rising and Moon signs is an interesting way to think about your chart. Plus it’s easy as well. You can turn them into characters & imagine their dialogue.

I DID this once ages ago, with planets, at some sort of astro-gestalt thing. It was sort of interesting but ghastly.  People had to act out someone’s chart and you should have seen how horrid the person playing Saturn immediately let himself get. Venus just whined about her needs not being met and the character playing Mars got the shits and stalked off to smoke furiously outside.

I have Sun in Pisces, Libra Moon and Aquarius Rising so am fairly easy-breezy most of the time but with sudden eruptions of Piscean psycho-dramatic passions & emotions that really embarrass the terribly rational Moon & Rising…

This picture reminds me of my friend the Scorpio Sex Academic.  Scorps live intensely. She’s busy racing between training to be a Shaman, lecturing on sexual politics, pulling on Adult Friend Finder (semi-eligible ones too, by some weird miracle), perfecting chakra awakening Khundalini yoga poses & being quite a supportive friend.  That’s our Scorp.

But you don’t need to be an actual Sun Sign Scorpio to be Plutonic.  Pluto in close aspect (I am just going to stay with the conjunction for today – that means ‘right next to’ aka conjoined) to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars makes you into a super-Plutonic person. Even if you have NO Scorpio in your chart whatsoever, a Pluto close to one of these “inner” points makes you mega-Scorpionic.

We use the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars everyday…I mean, they’re considered ‘everyday’ archetypes. To madly sum it up, the Sun = Ego, Moon = Emotions, Mercury = Mind, Venus = Love and Mars = Energy…Please, that’s definitions dumbed way down so as not to bang on for hours.

Pluto conjunct any of these points makes you almost beyond Scorpio. Pluto intensifies whatever it touches. So if you have, say, Pluto conjunct Moon – even in Libra, like Angelina Jolie – your Moon is Plutonified. Look at her depth of intensity in relationships & mothering, for a start. Lance Armstrong is the classic Sun-Pluto example. Not only does he make a spectacular recovery from a life threatening illness, he goes gangbusters with the metamorphosis and becomes a world-class athlete.

So, do you have Pluto conjunct any of the inner planets??? Mine is conjunct Mars which is interesting. Fairly ruthless when it comes to cutting people off, i’m afraid. If you can avoid the destructive or obsessive side of Pluto, tapping into the Plutonic energy gives one enormous regenerative energy.

Remember, if Pluto is close to anything, it’s Scorped up as hell.

Naomi Campbell on the run? I thought i was hallucinating when i saw that tv headline at the gym this morning.

But yes, she’s done it again. I’ve lost track. She slapped her maid. She hit someone with her phone. She did community service mopping floors for something abusive. And now this.

My Leo-Ex interviewed her a while ago and was incoherent with lust, babbling about the brilliance of her hair (he is a Leo), skin, scent, skin tone, physique, hair again, eyes, animal charisma, skin scent, mode of movement etc.  When asked how he found her apparent anger problem, Leo Ex explained that she could be the Antichrist for all he gave a damn.

But still. She is getting some form here.

Astrologically, we look to Madam’s Mars and voila…in Gemini and square to Pluto.  That’s a classic rage-attack waiting to happen. I have Mars conjunct Pluto and used to hit the roof all the time. It’s like being one of those amazing actors who just need one trigger to access whatever the emotion. The drycleaner can’t find your skirt – voomp. Mars-Pluto can be volanic and the square is challenging.

So, for an idea of yours or anyone elses potential anger issues, look to the ‘hard’ (square, conjunction, opposition) aspects made from Mars.

Right now, Mars and Saturn are Retrograde. And linked in such a way that they could work awesomely together in tandem.

Given that these are powerful, action-planets & that Saturn lends wisdom to the oomph of Mars + their being retrograde is about a revision, it makes sense to look at where they are in your chart.

Mars is at 6 Leo and Saturn at 4 Libra. ie; the very early degrees of these signs. Find which house (chart sector) these are in your chart and think about what to do with that area of life can be ruthlessly revamped and with great glee.  Because that’s the kind of energy it is and it’s totally worth tapping into.

Think: Extra willpower, elegant control and chic assertion in the areas of your scope/chart/life where you have early Leo and early Libra. Also that the arena for this steely evolution is one that has been activated since early last November.  And that you’re kind of stuck at this point, going back and forth until you totally get something. Like, REALLY get it. Grokking the issue du jour.

Think this through enough and you will get an ‘aha’ moment.

Persephone – Krista Huot

You know, I am sure, the Persephone myth? Persephone a.k.a. Proserpina (the Roman – think Aphrodite v.s. Venus for the difference) is innocently picking flowers one Spring day. Tempted by a narcissus, she also encounters the Hades a.k.a. Pluto and is then (depending on which version of the story you are reading) is either abducted or lured into the underworld where she winds up Queen of the Underworld.

It’s a totally complex tale with multiple themes & richness. If it resonates, you can actually fling two asteroids into your chart – Persephone (asteroid 399) and Prosperina (asteroid 26) What does their sign/house placement and any aspects mean? I don’t know!!!  I haven’t looked into them…This is going to be it.

I did found one description that had Persephone as signifying a sort of stupidity, naivety and sort of bumbling into the underworld style urges. Great. Because I have her conjunct Neptune in my tenth so it’s amazing i can even sober up long enough from my underworld bumblings to write scopes etc. Okay, lol.

Apart from being a folk tale to explain the seasons, Persephone’s story is so clearly also like that of Eve – the loss of innocence…and what’s more the desired loss of it. Eve eats the apple. Persephone eats the pomegranate. It’s also a tale of rebirth – Persephone goes into the underworld and learns all sorts of things so it’s like the story of Inanna/Ishtar’s trip into the underworld and subsequent triumphant rebirth.

Right now Persephone is at 10 Pisces & Proserpina at 28 Capricorn. Hmm. So this New Moon Eclipse on Friday will be conjunct Venus AND Prosperina…a rebirth indeed.  I am going to take a punt and say that either of these asteroids have to do with where you may seem serene & untroubled but where you have in fact faced trials…you’ve swum in underground streams…Where you’ve munched on some forbidden fruit and liked it, maybe.

In the story of Psyche (asteroid 16) -  considered an essential metaphor for women’s psych development by Carl Jung – one of Psyche’s tasks is to pop down into the underworld and collect a sample of Persephone’s fabulous beauty cream.  My god, is there a Jungian in the house??

Another thing to think about: Could/would either of these asteroids operate like a sort of Lady Pluto by transit???  Does seeing this New Moon Eclipse as being tied in with Venus AND Proserpina make you feel about it any differently?

A Journey Round My Skull

Jupiter, the officially most lucky planet of all, usually keeps pretty regular cycles. For ages now, he has whizzed into a new sign around about Jan/Feb and stayed there for the year. It’s gotten so i think of particular years in terms of where Jupiter was that year. The Chinese Horoscopes coincide with it – eg; Many a Tiger has Jupiter in Pisces. Snakes are Jupiter in Taurus peeps. And so on.

But Jupiter goes a.w.o.l. in 2010 – whizzing through the first two thirds of Pisces with alacrity and straight into a severely sensational conjunction with Uranus at Zero Degrees of Aries. This is major for many a reason. I go on about it in my book & I will go on about it here as well. But what’s interesting is that Jupiter covers one whole sign (Pisces) by late May and then into Aries and then back.

Why is this significant?

Jupiter is awesome. He’s a.k.a. Zeus, King of the Gods. Ancient astrologers called him the Greater Benefactor. Even astronomers admit the planet Jupiter (a.k.a Jove) plays a significant role in protecting Earth, helping to bounce dodgy/scary asteroids from our galaxy. And it is very rare that Jupiter winds up traversing one 10 degree bit of our Zodiac for ten months.  There are 360 degrees. Jupiter usually covers 30 degrees in a year. Not to mention that it’s the part of the Zodiac where it ENDS and where it STARTS.

The timeframe is from April 2010 until Feb 2011. It’s good to be aware of where this is in your chart as it’s where the main (and rare) chance is to be found. Angelic, profitable…where you both show and expect largesse.

I’m looking forward to it HEAPS as Jupiter will be going back and forth across my Venus, Sun and asteroid Psyche….AND actually, even though Jupiter does not exactly oppose Saturn when it goes back into Virgo in April – it will nonetheless ameloriate the austerity. I am going to be following Jupiter like mad in this time – like it’s a racehorse or a lucky star – because it IS.

Late May and the first week of JUNE – when Jupiter approaches Uranus – is especially auspicious, drastic and dramatic. Pantheistic, global developments for the greater good  that kill off vested interests who don’t give a merde about pollution, starvation, iatrogenesis…? It would be fab, as we then move into a stunning Uranus-Pluto-Saturn T-square situation:  better to act to clean up under the Jupiter influence than to leave it ‘to soak’.

Geopolitics aside, the Jupiter cycle from April 2010 to Feb 2011 is your own personal Jesus-Isis-Miracle moment. Astro-Fiends can do it for themselves – look to your chart between 23 Pisces and 3 Aries. Never mind any aspects other than conjunctions.  If you don’t wanna figure it out for yourself, you can get help in the comments stream if you’re lucky (and Jupiter is) or it is included in my Serendipity Cosmic Consult.

Is this picture how trines feel?

Okay Astro-Fiends…You know how there are “trine” aspects in your chart? These are said to be “good” or “easy” and “flowing”.  They are when planets are 120 degrees apart from one another. The so-called compatible signs are all in trine to one another. eg;  Aries trines Leo. Both Fire signs. But if you had a planet at 21 degrees in Aries and a planet at 21 degrees Leo, they would be trine.

You can go to Astrodienst & figure this out and then chat about it in the comments. The challenge is this. Find your CLOSEST trine. See how well those two planets work together. And how much easier you find the affairs of the House they are in. If you use the Extended Chart Options of Astrodienst, it comes up with a graph that shows you which planets make which aspect to what and how close their aspect is. You are looking for a triangle symbol – that means trine – and for a number below 4.

This is a fab way to learn Astrology! Later, we can investigate squares and see how the apparently most difficult aspect in your chart manifests compares to your trines…

So, find your closest trine. Think about whether this is something you take for granted or is it a blessing you give thanks for everyday? They say, btw, that your squares & oppositions, once buffed up operate more like lucky trines.

Eg; My closest trine is between Venus and Neptune. Venus is in Pisces, ruled by Neptune & it’s very close: Venus 22 Pisces and Neptune 19 Scorpio. This means i have a true love of art, poetry, wine, myth – all the Neptunian things, quite removed from any academic appreciation of them. It’s just diffuse adoration.

In love, i can be tres giving of course but Venus-Neptune gives on the ability to gaze upon a surly guy in the corner at the gym and bestow him with all sorts of magical qualities. He becomes a prince in exile under the magical gaze of Venus-Neptune. Venus Neptune in trine means you don’t have to try v.hard to be psychic but one has to beware nebulous, ill-defined situations & lower Neptunian scenarios that it’s all too easy to just sort of glide into.

What is your closest trine and is it working for you? An unexploited trine is a waste!

Everyone has a Lord or a Lady of their chart. It is the ruler of your Ascendent. As this is fairly ancient ye olde worlde astro, a lot of peeps think you should consider the ‘old’ rulers to be in effect. eg; If you have Pisces Rising, you would say  you are ‘ruled’ by Jupiter, not Neptune. But I don’t bother with this because I have Aquarius Rising and I’d rather be Uranian than Saturnine.

So, the idea is not that you owe allegiance to some feudal overlord or capricious dame such as the Moon BUT that  you keep a v.close eye on the Lord/Lady as it is v.likely to be super-significant.  You might also like to think in terms of developing/enhancing some of the qualities associated with that planet. eg; Say you have Aries Rising – Mars is your Lord…You would do well to be actively competitive & move hard on winning in the areas of the chart where Mars is transitting.

The chart ruler is v.important in Horary astrology, where you ask a question and run a chart for the moment of the question.

Today is the Ancient Roman worship day of Fortuna Redux – goddess of successful journeys and safe returns!

Fortuna is from whom we get the term Lady Luck & the Pars Fortunae (Part Of Fortune) in your chart is where you are traditionally fortunate! There are articles on it here and here & you can bung it easily into your chart using Astrodienst’s Extended Chart Options.  It’s an Arabic Part & thus from a different school of astro – there are dozens of these so-called Arabic Parts; The Part of Fascination, the Part Of Treachery, The Part Of Karma etc. Deeply interesting but maddening to the person setting out to learn about astrology, which is why i so rarely go on about them.

BUT, for a good time (if you are an aspiring Astro-Fiend) have a look at your Part of Fortune & the House that it is in + any major and tight-orb aspects that it makes.  To also Do: Compare it with Jupiter – the official “benefic” of the planetary pow-pow, along with our lady Venus. A Part Of Fortune hitting on Jupiter and/or Venus would be officially brill. Think also of transits involving this lot as being when you ponce out to try on some new biz.

And yes, I am back and i had a successful journey thank you so much!

I call the 12th House (the one right before the Ascendent) the Soul Sector but it has many names. Fatalistic old style astrologers called it the House of Self-Undoing.  The sign on the Cusp of the 12th is often one that you are not comfortable with although it would actually be brill for you to incorporate the higher aspects of that sign. Sometimes the 12th House operates almost like a relative you are embarassed about. Something fun to think about…yes?

The Sun, Moon and planets there can be like hidden talents, people whose Sun-Moon etc fall into your 12th House stir your Soul as do planets gliding through there. It’s potent for dreams, divination and secrets. There can be a withdrawal from the world – or what you think of as your world – when the 12th house is being activated…a fab time to do therapy, a personal pilgramage etc.

Soul Sector doings are deeply subliminal and as for the Self-Undoing theme, i don’t really go along with that. But i expect it has to do with how 12th house themes – secrets – can manifest as addictions and all that end of life. I know when i had Uranus in my 12th house, i operated way more subversively & led a v.insular life & then -wham – Uranus got to my Ascendent – everything changed.

So, something to think about: How do you work/use the sign/Sun/Moon or planets in your 12th house?? Do you repress them?  Is there any link to secrets there? The 12th House is spooky  and multi-layered as will be your answers to this question, if you muse upon it enough.

Quick examples as i am dashing: i HAVE noticed that peeps with Mars in the 12th are WAY more angry than they seem. Sublimated Mars. Also you often meet super-Low versions of the sign in your 12th House in early life, Jupiter there is secret blessings…
