The Leo Baby has an extremely sophisticated grasp of music and, from an early age will respond with alacrity to Brahms lullabies & al those classical compositions set at a certain tempo to help babies relax. They may diss standard nursery jingles in fabour of a far more complicated tunes. As soon as they can hold – say – a rattle, they would love a drum set or any other kind of instrument. As they move into toddler-hood le petit Leos love also photography, film & dancing. It is totally their thing…

A la Ceres-Watch the planet formerly known as Asteroid Ceres has JUST gone into Libra and is squaring Pluto for the next week. Those of you interesting in monitoring Ceres may share in the comments. I am thinking that Ceres in Libra MUST feel lighter and  more breezy-easy than Ceres in Virgo. Ceres in Virgo for SO long – since November 2008 – has a careworn vibe about her. Too many details. Ceres in Libra is lovely for mothering & feeling elegant about the whole shebang. BUT the square to Pluto means intensified feelings & possibly a spot of stage-mothering….

The other day I was meandering around & decided to go in to see a psychic. It feels a bit silly as i can do my own divination but it’s fab to have someone ELSE doing it for one. In fact, I saw three psychics in three days. I blame the Eclipse and the Scorpio Sex Academic. Actually, it was fascinating. Although, i was disturbed to hear that the Uranian has apparently had his soul snatched.

For one of them, my Gemini daughter and i wound up in front of this lovely lady who said – unprompted, this was excellent, that i was bringing the “old ways” to a new audience via a new medium. That’s what raving on about mugwort & Venus will get you. People can smell it. But this Glebe psychic was staring at my daughter and saying “she’s a crystal child…” I used to get this all the time with my son – “he’s an indigo” and i sort of see it as de rigeur in New Age circles.

So as we’re leaving the shop, i turn to my Gemini and ask how she feels re being a “crystal child” et al. She glared at me with all the scorn a nine year old can muster and said “You paid her money, she wasn’t exactly going to say I am a cockroach child, was she?” I thought that was quite amusing.

But, parents, do you think the Indigo, Crystal & Rainbow child New Agie stuff is genius or a load of drivel?  I don’t know enough about it to totally diss it, though the theories re autism seem a bit suss. The idea of a new master race of highly evolved spirits IS quite appealing, I suppose…But still…

You ideally need to please go read Ceres-Watch 1 for this to resonate BUT essentially, I go on and off observing this asteroid-turned- planet. So, as she has been in Virgo since November 2008 and is about to cross into Libra on August 4, this is a fab chance to collect some findings.

Note that ideas of what she represents vary widely. Ceres SO often ends up just sounding like the Moon. She is obviously linked with agriculture (the word cereal comes from her name) and as she is a.k.a.Demeter there is a link to her as that mythological mother…having to share custody of her daughter with Hades himself. Yah, Pluto…the demoted planet. Hmm. Some say Ceres is about the menses cycle & others call feminism.  Others say she signifies the eco warrior aspect of the Great Goddess.  Like Gaia.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see why wimmyn notice when Ceres goes into Libra – I think a shift from Virgo to Libra usually feels quite profound when any planet does it.

Also, if you are a mother, please compare your Moon and Ceres signs here along with which one you feel would most aptly signify your mothering style…I have Ceres in Pisces & the Moon in Libra & I think i’m more Libran Moonie at mothering with occasional veer-offs into Ceres-style. In fact, I think my Ceres only pops up when i feel absolutely absorbed by parenting to the exclusion of all else.  Could that be the key to Ceres?

All sorts of fascinating astro-relations show up in families. The ones I notice most often are that children tend to have the same Rising Sign as the Sun or Rising of their parents AND strong synastry (inter-chart aspects) involving the karmic Moon’s Nodes. But the Sun sign relations are fun and useful to observe.  Or even just the Elements.

When I was growing up, one of my first astro-observations were my Water Sign cousins. Five of them – all in one family and with Capricorn parents who did not know WHAT had hit them. The Capricorns worked like maniacs to provide every education, sustenance, comfort & security. They were uber-Earth-signs. The two Pisceans, two Scorps and one Cancerian were all towering blue-eyed tornadoes of drama, seances, romance, intrigue, science fantasy, tears, more drama, passion and apparent inability to live via any known earthly routine what-so-ever. Whether the Water Sign children were refusing to touch money, running away to join the Hare Krishnas, adopting elaborate disguises in which to attend a school they were not enrolled at or breeding ravens in the treehouse, they lived by other-worldly rituals that sent the Capricorns mad.

It helps SO much to know that a Cancerian parent WILL go ape if you dislike the food they cooked for you whilst a Gemini would be more likely to be irritated if you failed to pass on good goss. Or, more elegantly, “useful intelligence.” Try a quick analysis of the Elements (Fire, Earth, Air, Water signs) in your family of origin – see if it fits.

spykids2Spykids

This is a way simplistic but interesting way to think a la astro & parenting. Everyone has a more or less dominant element in their astrological charts. You can see a nifty little table that shows where planets et al are concentrated usually at the bottom of that charts. F for Fire, Air for Air, E for Earth and W for Water.

Fire Signs are Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn. Air Signs; Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces.

Find the dominant element & realise that that simply is your childs temperament. eg; Fire kids need to compete, shine and show off. Water kids want to be left alone in reverie a lot and thrive on music/art style pursuits. But they won’t have remotely the same desire that the Fire sign has to get in there and prove themselves via team work. Earth kids need & benefit from routine, regular eating & sleeping habits + they’re fussy about their stuff. Physical exercise grounds them but it’s not the O.T.T. variety Fire loves. Air children are amazingly easily bored & enjoy loads of mental stimulation, factoids, jokes & quizzes.

These are all obviously generalisations but it’s also fascinating how true they are and how they help peeps understand one another. A Water child WOULD enjoy meditation but it would be fairly fruitless to impose it on an Air child. Fire kids relish a challenge & can put up with the most relentless ‘motivation’ of a batso sporting parent. Air kids will be thrilled at irregular hours and spontaneity but it would make an Earth child morose.

Something to think about?

Shorts – The Movie

draper5Herbert Draper

So given that children tend to enquire from whence they came way before one has an explanation prepped, what do you tell them?

I got my son to watch the DVD of Where Did I Come From? when he was four and then asked if he had any questions. I think i was chanelling my Mars in Virgo. “Only one,” he said. “Did you have to do that to get me?” He’s Cancerian and they tend to be a bit funny about their mothers.

And when I airily explained the biology of it to my daughter, she sighed with total Gemini cynicism and rolled her big blue eyes. “I know all that boring stuff. I’m more interested in where i was before that.”

Of course, it’s way later when you get the tricky questions: “So, have you ever had a threesome?”  “Why did you leave X?” “Would you consider yourself hot?” “What is a fetish?” “Why do people dress up as the opposite sex?”  “What is an X rated movie?” “Is it true that the Dad of Jesus is a Ghost?” “How long were you a virgin for?”

SO what is the answer? Virgoan precision? Absolute Saggo candour?  Leo-Libra Social Engineering? Gemini-Piscean fibbing-procrastination?

Obviously, there are oodles of factors that contribute to your mothering style but astrologically you look to your Moon. Also, arguably, Ceres & stuff in the 5th House but for now, let’s do the Moon…And, as always, this is just off the top of my head, for fun and not taking into account your whole chart.

For example, if your Moon is in Scorpio but it’s bang on Uranus, you are totally looking at an Aquarian/Uranian zing to that Scorped up Moon. And if you’re an Astro-Fiend, look to the easy/harmonious/soft versus tricky/challenging/hard aspects made by the Moon to see  how you fit motherhood into other aspects of your life.

A few ideas to get you thinking…

Moon in Aries: Gung-ho Mum who imbues her kids with sense of can-do & the ability to compete in healthy ways. She models this by refusing to ever knuckle down. If shit happens, Moon-in-Aries Mum is not seen crumbling, whimpering “oh no,  not now, not this again” – she is UP and at ‘em. So she role models sensational ambition & flair. Fantastic sports mum – unless you lose, lol. Moon-in-Aries Mum can occasionally be low in empathy & does not like “grizzling.”

Moon in Taurus: Serenity Mum who transmits eerie soothing rays to even the most unruly of offspring, tetchy of babies. Moon-in-Taurus Mum, at best, is the archetypal herbal mother a la the Empress in the Tarot. Excellent at creating a secure-feeling and luxurious atmosphere of peace & plenty, regardless of funds available. Moon-in-Taurus Mum gives excellent money & worldly living advice, provides child with strong sense of adequacy. Child will  prob not crack up before 20 due to cuckoo credit card debts and louche living.

Moon in Gemini; Young-at-heart Mum who flits about forever able to relate to offspring’s foibles as her inner child so super-alive. Often prefers school age children and onward to the baby stage as the older ones can be so easily employed to collect gossip and are  more rewarding for her to dialogue with. Gets off on the imparting of knowledge & moulding  young mind aspect of parenting. Gives child verve & ability to never-ever be a bore as child HAD to be amusing for Moon-in-Gem mum.  Child comes out brainy & urbane…

Moon in Kataka; Classic Mum as this Moon is in the sign La Luna rules – the sign of parenting. Moon in Kataka loves pregnancy, birthing & breastfeeding in primal way that amazes other mothers -  has profound spiritual link to the whole thing. Is nurturing to the nth degree with only the slightest hint of martyrdom/guilting. Can and will pull off such a high level of nourishing and caring for the child, that the standard of cooking/empathy et all is never again reached. Can be terribly clingy. Child has strong feeling of being wanted & is usually a fab cook/emo-together.

Moon in Leo; Chic Mom. Moon-in-Leo Mum is fiercely loving of offspring a la nature documentaries & she is ultra-adept at all milestone events such as choreographing parties, attending funparks and ensuring the child looks just-so for the first day of school. Child can feel a bit like co-conspirator in major fabulosity scheme. Moon in Leo has fervent belief in her child’s extreme beauty, talent and star potential – how could it be any other way for a being who sprung from her gilded loins. Will make scenes at parent teacher meetings if  child’s genius not acknowledged. Fiend for table manners & grooming. The child will have awesome pics of self – maybe even a portrait.

Moon in Virgo; Details Mum. No way will the child of Moon-in-Virgo Mum ever have be sheepish at school because of excursion  note not signed et al. All details from childs fingernails being filed to regular dental check-ups and ability to pronounce words properly will be taken care of. Supernaturally together young peeps often spring from Moon-in-Virgo mums who ensured they always  have needle and thread to sew on buttons, their taxi fare  home & the ability to properly read instructions. Her child will be educated, healthy & wise…Or else. Can nark off a bit. Or be a bit hypochondriac.

Moon in Libra; Yummy Mummy. Moon-in-Libra Mum  is not the sort of saint who skips a facial so that her children can have new shoes but she models that detached & independent woman who doesn’t lose herself in parenting. She flirts. Even with the ob-gynae who helps to deliver her baby. She imparts her sense of justice, symmetry and elegant living to her children and weilds her charm to make even the most mundane aspects of childhood quite fascinating. Her child is imbued with a social conscience, charm & eloquence and beauty worship. Moon-in-Libra Mum insists her children conduct themselves in public and at quite adult occasions v.early on. Result; sophisticated, take-anywhere children.

Moon in Scorpio; Totality Mum. Moon-in-Scorpio Mum needs to bond deeply with her children and experience a primordial and open bond with them. She can be amazingly single-minded and obsessed when it comes to backing them – i often  think those child progidies have Moon-in-Scorpio Mums. They’ll read every single parenting book going and apply the findings. They want their child actualised & individuated – with no hang-ups. They can be a bit more focussed than some of the other Moon Signs on what they felt they had to give up, to become a parent. Her children are v.self-aware & often have one unique & official talent.

Moon in Saggo; Boho Mum. Moon-in-Saggo mum is the  most likely to jump on a plane to take even toddler kids trekking in Spain or whatever mind-expanding experience she deems appropriate. She believes in candour and space for herself so she’ll encourage her kids to be likewise extremely  honest and with the ability to create the mood/space they need to be themselves.  Banquet style dins on the table every night ain’t her style. Kids get spontaneity & a lot of quite frothy political thoughts/beliefs/opinions about everything. Kid will be a great debater. She’s slack with rules & always on the child’s side re school. Will argue validity of homework as a concept – putting the whole system on trial – rather than admit her child didn’t do it.

Moon in Capricorn; Moon-in-Capricorn  operates much like Moon-in-Virgo mum only with less details consciousness and more of an over-riding long term vision for her child. Foresight is her. She puts childs name down for right kindie at conception. Ditto proper schools etc. She thinks way ahead and even back; child is not only member of right clubs, child is very aware of ancestors and where he/she fits into society. Child gets fantastic head start in life & a whole lot of – at the appropriate age – witty & bawdy insider secrets of Life. But there will be no slacking. Moon in Capricorn’s child often does not realise all that is being done for her/him at the time.

Moon in Aquarius; Eccentric Mum. Child learns about conspiracy theories, Kombucha mushroom as an antioxidant or maybe not and alternative realities early on as is taken along with Moon in Aqua Mum’s perpetual personal growth trip. Moon-in-Aquarius Mum  is not going to fit into a bourgeois parenting paradigm – no way- so her child may well be alt.schooled, alt.healthy and alt-thinking from an early age. Moon in Aqua Mum can be super-rigid but her over-riding philosophy of New Age parenting will usually win the day. Her child gets the gift of a cosmic consciousness, open mind and the gift of being his/her own person.

Moon in Pisces; Moon in Pisces Mum can be a tad inconsistent. Yin, Yang and Yin again. One moment she’s Domestic Godesssy and it’s cupcakes at dawn – the next moment, everyone  is on a macrobiotic diet and learning to meditate. One moment she’s overbearingly THERE and wanting to bond, the next screeching for space so she can create her magnum opus. Again. Moon in Pisces children get a sense of the world as being an enchanted place, where  magical thinking works. He/she will also be ultra-culturally literate as Moon-in-Pisces is a polyglot who appreciates similar in her children. They will v.rarely be stuck or queruously peevish. She bequeaths them magic & fluidity.

By popular demand-nagging-guilting-wheedling, I am introducing a new feature – Astro-Baby!  I do find astrology a fascinating way to help understand your children. I have retrieved from the archives an old anecdote re my son – who is Kataka but with a multiple Leo conjunction – to illustrate & as I think it’s funny.  It’s below…I don’t do charts for children generally as it is nice to let them blossom and see how they manifest their astro. But they work really well…It’s good to look at some key points of their chart. eg; Having been fine at swimming as a toddler, my boy suddenly developed this extreme water phobia, which nothing would cure. Then one day at the swimming  pool, when he was about seven, he noticed two “older” girls staring at him and he dove straight in the deep end. Phobia cured.  That’s your multiple-Leo in action.

So is this;

He’s a teenager now. Mars, Mercury Jupiter all in Leo…Anyway, he went to the doctor, suspecting that he had picked up some vile gastric thing from his trip to Thailand…

Comes home, saying the doctor said he’s fine…

Me: Really?

Multi-Leo: Yeah. She was really attactive and she said i had amazing abs.

Me: What about the gastric thing?

Multi-Leo: Oh fine. But I said no to having diarrhea or flatulence because I didn’t want to ruin the image she so clearly had of me being really fit and all.

Me: Are you for real?

Multi-Leo: She thinks it might be something to do with our furniture…

Me: Furniture?  Did you actually go to see a DOCTOR? Or just chat up someone at the gym?

Multi-Leo: Yeah, she wants a stool sample. Do we even have any stools?

And with my daughter, she has Sun-Mars-Venus in Gemini/in the 5th house so absolutely craves creativity, art, knowledge & goss. But also Neptune Rising so slack at admin to a stupendous degree…She would rather draw or listen to music. Neptune Rising is beautiful, charismatic & artistic but can be hopeless re “reality.” But the Multi-Gemini means she has an astonishingly quick mind & encylopediac knowledge of about 100 people and their biz. She just knows things – every bit of info is processed, filed appropriately & stored.

So, without projecting a whole lot onto them, have a look at just your childs Sun, Rising and Moon sign – see if you can see how they’re operating…Nurture the Moon, respect the Rising & let the Sun just shine…And if they’re contradictory influences, see how you can help them work together a bit more. eg; Leo Rising is a show-off & will respond to music like you wouldn’t believe but if the Moon is in Scorpio, they need a locked box, secret diary sort of a thing and the absolute assurance of privacy.

Another example; My son’s Moon is in Virgo conjunct Venus so that’s innately health-conscious. He saw Supersize Me & totally altered his eating habits that very day. He invents his own little health rituals such as eating an entire garlic & fancy kinds of push-ups. So a Moon in Virgo child feels secure with healthy rituals & would love – for example-  his/her own diary or scheduler. A Moon in Libra child would be more likely to respond to aromatherapy than other Moons – maybe even tidy a room if they get to spritz a little something around later. Aries anything needs to compete & will go psycho-bats if give the kind of well-meaning goo-goo that they can’t. Taurus hates having their stuff moved around.

So I will do more along these lines in future Astro-Baby…

rainbow_171081

As I have a Cancerian son & a Gemini daughter, I can confirm both signs are as moody as their reputation. But they’re different. Cancerians moods really do swing…one mood fades out and another fades in. It’s almost graceful – when their good mood swings around, it’s like the sun shining through clouds and there is (almost) a logical rythym to it…Like the tides. Or the Moon herself.

Gemini moods blat in and out with no discernable logic whatsoever. There is no segue nor even a cue. My Gemini blats from mild spite to being suffused with loving bliss in the bling of a millisecond. Like a lightening flash. That’s the difference between Moon & Mercury, I guess.  Cancerians are ruled by the Moon and Geminis by Mercury.

Like that beautiful old word,
“caprice.”

Eymology: French, from Italian capriccio caprice, shudder, perhaps from capo head (from Latin caput) + riccio hedgehog, from Latin ericius more at head, urchin
Date:
1667
1 a: a sudden, impulsive, and seemingly unmotivated notion or action b: a sudden usually unpredictable condition, change, or series of changes
2: a disposition to do things impulsively…”
