How Not To Do It

At the risk of stating the obvious-to-sane-people, I am typing this in bed, the most ill i have been in years and i would just like to say that soldiering on when you have the flu – on the dubious grounds that your illness will think it is clearly biz as normal and go away – DOES NOT WORK.

It’s called Vertigo Flu, it’s disgusting and it is NOT the manifestation of Saturn on my Midheaven that i was looking for. I wanted to be breezing around in shoes a la the above, getting shit done and doing power-meetings. Or something. But no, it’s barracks confinements, an ridiculous array of herbal AND pharma that i am snorting, gargling, spraying & swallowing AND the hideous Saturn-style realization that i actually do have no back-up for if i am sick. Who wants me to do a really cynical and embittered ‘fuq you Saturn’ rant when i am better?

So okay and with epic timing, i have a whole lot of emails that my intern can’t answer AND none of the gift baskets i sent people have apparently been delivered. When i phone up the establishment, there is an infuriatingly naff voicemail with “ho-ho-ho” and the sound of sleigh bells/crap Xmas Muzak + the info that they’ve all fuqed off to basically another galaxy until the middle of January.

So i left demonic sounding raspy croaked threats type message and now i am taking my 2013 Resolutions to a whole new psycho level.

And i am doing Daily Horoscopes – they may be a little bit late due to Saturn Flu but they are coming. Okay, so thoughts?

Also, this is not a pity play lol BUT i am not going to blog at all over Xmas & New Year but the Horoscopes continue as usual, the new year ahead scheduler is hopefully going to be ready (so you can click on a date far ahead to see if it’s good or not) AND i am going to post cool updates about the rabid Plutonic family baggage-annhilating Full Moon on the 28th and other things on the Weekly Horoscopes page. And i am making a password protected secret post so subscribers can chat amongst themselves, share thoughts re the Horoscopes etc over the hols.

So it is basically a brilliant time to subscribe.

  1. Slow down, lady!

Enjoy the bed rest & your crankiness

    xx

I went to a job interview today. They said no DURING the interview.

Trying to convert this to a positive…

    Trying…

    • Crikey Moses…were the interview panel ALL Merc in Aries???

Well, hey, VenusRising, at least you don’t have to play the waiting game to find out. Here’s to a strong recovery of your oomph, and onto Plan B (for Brilliance…who’d want to work with such people anyway, right?) xx

      • Sorry to hear you’re ill Mystic.

Re the ‘no’ during the interview–while this is a bumma for you I think it’s wonderfully honest, given that everyone says a decision is made about whether to hire you within a few seconds of your walking through the door. I heard a great question to ask in reply to the… Finally, do you have any questions for us? question. you say “Do you have any doubts about my suitability for this position?” Usually because most interviewers are horribly dishonest they answer with a guarded and suspicious ‘no’. (ipso facto they should give you the bloody job). But should they answer honestly –we’re a bit concerned about your three heads/your confidence/your intelligence/your education/that you might run rings around us/ and/or be hard to ‘direct’-, then you can address their doubts on the spot.

Job interviews are appalling. It is impossible to keep your ‘eye’ on three people at the same time and always one amongst them plays the doubting Thomas whose primary motivation is to find that something about you not to like. Being empathetic and confident and friendly and polite is no guarantee of success especially for older, female, otherwise over-qualified types. Most employers want obsequious, servile, automatums who will enforce the employer’s born-to rule superiority. And yes, my experience of job interviews and the duplicity and dishonesty therein has over time given me quite the attitude.

        • I love this advice! I’ve asked this question in an interview once, and while it gave me the opportunity to address some concerns, I could tell it made the interviewer QUITE uncomfortable. Had they offered me the position, I would have been concerned about their ability to communicate about uncomfy stuff. It gave me really valuable insight into them as much as it gave them some answers to their concerns. Also I think it shows how badly you want the position and that you want to leave no stone unturned. I just interviewed for a vocational school and we had to work through LSAT (bar exam) questions together to see how student & teacher would work together. It was brilliant!!

        • Link, that’s a great tip, thank you!!! Have been going through job applications myself, so far no face-to-face, so it’s good to know this. Thanks!

    • You know wot Doll? Each and every time someone/something was a no-go for me, it’s always EVENTUALLY made sense. Sometimes, in the face of smashing rejection, you have to think, Thank you.

Thank you for freeing me up for people, places and opportunities who only want to give me a unanimous Yes. Thank you for not wasting my time. Thank you for not drawing this all out in utter misery.

And thank you for saying No SO summarily that I will relish your calling me back after you languish in regret for letting a good thing go when it was right in front of you. Trust. If they do come back, you can ask for more money. They’ll be hungrier then..and voila, MM is an amazing person to work with if all sorts out.

    • VR, sorry to hear about the experience.
I’ve been going through job applications myself, and have across a lot of nos, so at the end I decided that with every no, it’s bringing me closer to the Best Yes(es).
It can be a real challenge in the midst of all the interviews/sending out applications process, but hey, I’m hanging on to that one.

Here’s to that best yes you deserve!
(and I don’t mean that in a trite way at all)

      • Thanks you guys, you are awesome! The peeps on here are so wonderful.

I have been chanting to myself, ‘rejection is protection’.

Fantastic advice and support, thank you!!

    • They likely did you a huge favor. What a cold and crappy way to treat someone at an interview. It speaks volumes about what the day in day out atmosphere must be there.

  2. So sorry to hear that you are sick MM! Unfair!! PS… I know a great physio who CURED me of vertigo.. pretty much instantly… Was very weird technique which involved me lying head down at odd 45degree angle and then she shook my whole head for 3 minutes. It worked!! . She’s here in Melbourne, but she might know of peeps with similar skillz in Sydders. … If you want the contact pls send me emailage. :-)

    • That is the cure for vertigo caused by BPPV – Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo. It only works if the vertigo is caused by calcium crystals deposited in the inner ear. There are quite a number of causes for dizziness, and different types of dizziness as well.

  3. hope you’re feeling better soon – flu at the height of summer is miserable.

I’d go with the Saturn realisation of no backup as the astro message du jour.

      • See what bubbles up when you stop and listen! If you don’t stop at the right time, you get forced to stop at the wrong time. This is what I often think of severe illness.

Sleep, lady. We’ll live without you (just) We should all get off our computers for a week or so anyway, go outside and stretch our wings and be happy we are living, whatever the circumstances.

        • Ditto from me Mystic. I’ve been a bit worried about the pace you’ve been keeping for a couple of years now and you seem have been having a bit of a run of low grade health problems.

If the mind is too stubborn to listen to the body the body takes over and ignores the mind completely.

Rest, sleep, sleep, rest. Have a gorgeous Christmas and new year break and come back when you are ready…….and WELL

    • Hell Yeah !
      Freakin’ Ace !
Now where do i sign ?

This sheer brilliance, gifted to you (for Christmas – bahahahaha) courtesy of Saturn on your MC baby !

    • Brilliant! As a person who has to write a lot myself, I get a great deal from just talking and doing audio notes. A podcast is the next most economical way of composing.

Also, comiserations on the sickness. I too was brought to a stop this past week, but with me it was with a prolapsed spinal disc, and I had so much work to do! I just had to drop it all. Wasn’t easy, but it was mandatory. Just had to rest snd that was all about it.

      All the best.

  4. Oh Mystic, I have had that. Truly hideous!! You can probably barely move your head, you poor thing. Anti nauseas tabs, water and lots of rest for you, dear.

  5. I am just at the tale end of this vertigo thing. It’s the second time this year I’ve had it and it’s just awful. Have follow-up doc appt tomorrow to check things out but I’m thinking now maybe not a good idea to be around other sick people and get worse. Anyway, have been majorly Saturning on since I’ve been feeling better – working out like a demon, decluttering and cleaning, pet to the vet, eye test, the works. I say at the end of this awfulness Mystic you will not be Saturn girl but Queen of Saturn. In the meantime get LOTS of rest, drink plenty of fluids, and try and find a position to lay in where your head doesn’t spin. No sudden movements either. xx

  6. Dear MM, pl chill. Are you up to reading? Madeleine L’Engle’s “Wrinkle in Time” or “The Hobbit” or “The Mists of Avalon” by Marion Zimmer Bradley are great reads – espec if you like Kim F’s books. I have a theory about the sun transiting out of Sagg and into Cap. I think it is super hard on our bodies. I don’t know why but that’s my experience. Maybe its the energy going from free-flowing to oh so constricted? Hope you feel better soon.

  7. Tomorrow is ………21-12-2012
all those two’s and a sensitive day for nurturing
it all adds up to 2, the moon. tomorrow is like a new
beginning so make a wish, as moon in aries good idea to start the say with lemon in hot water and walk along the beach. happy
My moon is in the 12th house and i am grateful i know cause i feel like shit but want to be a positive spirit now.

  8. Oh I know this place.. Beware when it gets to the mouth ulcers and you can no longer drink or eat. Argghh!

On the upside of illness (it can be a privilege!), I was hallucinating and throwing up last weekend and I had the most fantastic experience:
As I watching my little spectrum boy at play in the garden, I mentally called out to him “Hi!” in my mind a few times. He then quizzically put a pretend phone to his ear and looked about and said, “H’lo? Mummy??”.

I tried a few more different things that day that were weirdly successful too in terms of telepathy.
If I wasn’t in an altered state I don’t know that I would have found him so receptive to this, I am gonna keep practicing. :)

Get better MM, I hope there is a silver lining to the illness for you too, xx.

    • That’s amazing. We often see this type of thing as their block towards us, but i have often felt a different wavelength is possible to tune into. As long as you don’t do magic mushrooms for the er, parenting experience :)

      • Ha! Yes, no mushrooms. Even being ill is not a long term solution.

Actually, I really appreciated those who gave me advice & support the last week re my little boy here.
I had a real breakthrough in terms of understanding autism & what it means in our family.

That’s when I made more effort to contact him via sending visual mental pics, and it totally worked!

I read that if autism keeps being diagnosed at the current rate all children will be autistic by 2037 or something.
Then I thought, maybe that isn’t so bad. Autistic people can’t lie or dissemble, perhaps they are telepathic and if they can access that ..then what a different world this would be?

Just my rambling thought-stream, yeah, don’t need mushrooms for this..

  9. Saturn is an interesting old bugga. But in truth, it’s that old chestnut of it reminding us that we can only do so much. Seems to me that having Scorpio on the Midheaven means you could push through until the cows come home. Until Saturn clearly herds them up and brings them home. Go some Olive Leaf that doesn’t taste like some rancid petri dish and an epsom salts bath too. And sleep. And rest. Then sleep some more. Father time can faqing wait.

  10. Mystic, i’m so sorry you have this. I had it earlier in the year, but on top of my other health issues, i didn’t realise in time and tried to soldier on. Body says NO. Mind says we want to be busy…you’re Merc in Aries, too. Plus i guess Mars in Virgo gets irritated at all the Things That Need to be Done.

Enjoy the rest and relaxation where possible, requisition some beautiful flowers, and yes you can direct the embittered Saturn crank anyway you please. It’ll be a great read! Best wishes for healing and freshness to return your way xx

  11. hope u get well soon Mystic. i feel u need a holiday a spa treatment
    Garlic will help u too.
thanks for all the blogs u continue to put out
    too xx

  12. The Flu has hit me here too – I’m meant to be spending this time reflecting on 2012 and working on my new business for launch next year – except I feel so crappy that all I can think about it holing up and sleeping!

  13. urgh that is hideous. it’s funny for those who are still doing things outside of the paid holiday season madly trying to work around the clock and you get the xmas till jan beep. no where near as ill but I am fighting flu, 2 coldsores and fatigue to hell only lessoning my march toward friday when I can sit down for 5, off to see if I can get funding or some kind of biz aid now. Isn’t it cruel how you can be so doing the right thing and still get smashed with flu. Speedy recovery lady xx

  14. Dearest Mystic, Your universe is telling you to stop. I am going through the most enormous life changes ever and every time I think the “i”s are dotted and the “t”s crossed something else comes up.

What I have learned during the past 3 years of Saturn in Libra is that sometimes forces beyond our control are in play to make us realise that we are not in fact in control.

Have your body and brain meltdown in this down time…you need the rest so you are ready for the magnificence of 2013.

We will chat amongst ourselves and be fine…breathe, relax and prepare.

    xx

    • Absolutely … just get out of the slog and S-T-O-P. Most importantly sans guilt. We will miss you but will appreciate you so much more when you’re back :-) . Anyone who can’t survive a week or so without you could probably do with going cold turkey for a bit to reset the neurons anyway.
Gotta love it tho, look at all the cyber caring you’ve inspired!

  15. Two of the best belly laughs of incredulity on consulting the Oracle (MM) this evening,

Give a spin MM, laughter is the best meds after all

  16. dear mystic medusa
the only thing that will cure you is a piece .. a very large piece of Christmas cake baked by a loving cook, saturated with hiccuping fruit soaked in a brandy at least five years old. you can have some salad with it too.

  17. Life can really test us. The first sign that we aren’t being true to ourselves is when we get sick. God is saying “slow down”. (I saw this in another post). In 2009 I was thrown a curve ball after putting myself through torture with a possible career change while still working full-time. I got sick. It was one of those diagnosis where you fall to the ground and just cry. Well, after a couple of days I got myself back up, went to China for 2 weeks and got grounded. I said, “Ok, God, I give up”. It changed my life and I haven’t looked back. I think I am going through it again but it is more based on the torture of this “love situation” (as I deny it as such).. so maybe I haven’t learned. A little painful with this situation as of Tuesday but I am holding head high. I will try again with getting my health back to order. Don’t know if it will work but I am loving my life so I am need to absorb that sense of myself and move forward. Happy Holidays. Something good will come out of this!! xo!!

  18. O Myst, the summer bug going around got ya! So sorry to hear and so many i have heard in Adders down with a ‘flu’. Seems like an end of 2012 cleansing? Remember about OPS & taking it onboard subliminally & subconciously, we get full of it unknowingly. So you take time out to know what really matters That was alsp the Frog message in the bird pond, cleansing.
Sometimes i think one needs to eat dirt to build immunity, think it’s worked for me, so perhaps it’s relax release & re-energise time, please zen out nothing can be forced.
Didn’t Angel say she felt like a snake shedding her skin. Symbolic for many.
My subs run out in Jan ’13, so you better put me down for another year or five..
It is a time here on the comments now to wish health & prosperity to the old school crew, some here, some elsewhere and current :-)
The coming Full Cancerian Moon, glad of the reminder, maybe Mother America will now protect her children.
What was it that was left in Pandora’s Box after all the nasties escaped?
    Hope, wasn’t it.

  19. Mysti, i have skipped reading what everyone else wrote so will probably repeat what they’re saying anyway… srsly just do a Pisces and disappear for while. you’re fuqing sick. People miss a few days of horoscopes? Here’s my thinking:

    1. Don’t be a dick to people, yes even your annoying sister / neighbour / mother / evil undead father / stepmother / etc.

    2. Call the police or an ambulance if shit’s going down in a bad way.

    3. If shit’s not going down in a bad way, wear a fuqing smile and realise that it’s not all about you / me and we all have to get along somehow.

    4. Call your nearest and dearest to say (1) Hello, how are you, (2) happy Festivus, (3) I love you, and your adorable children / puppy / brother , give them all a hug for me. (4) Let’s have lunch on the XXth of January 2013 at 1pm at that place we love to visit.

    5. The rest can wait until January. Yes even HIM.

    Well, that’s my precis anyway.

    Get well soon mystic.

PS WHERE’S MY HAMPER lolol xx

    • Sorry, those numbered dot points were my made-up horoscope in the event of Mystic checking out of work-land for a few days. Not advice to Mystic because lawd even I am not so insane as to proffer made-up horoscopes to my astrologer who is suffering a stymied Mars in Cap moment. xx :D

  20. OMG, Mystic, that was the same guilt-tripping I went through when I came down with a nasty sinus infection / flu / who-knows-what after the eclipse full moon at the end of Nov. I couldn’t concentrate at work and I was super down, but just kept thinking I needed to “improve my attitude” and work harder. Then I was forced to take antibiotics, which messed with my mental state even worse. It wasn’t until I was finally clear of the sickness and antibiotic hammer that my head cleared and I realized I had been unjustly harsh with myself. I mean, when a kid gets cranky because he’s hungry, we make sure he gets something to eat. We don’t tell him he must “soldier on.” So why do we do that to ourselves? Why not give our bodies what they need in these situations? Rest and “unhooking” from the world for a while – that’s what we need. Not focusing on getting our awesome on!

    • P.S. And when I got better by the new moon, considering that I had taken ill at the full moon, it made me even a more loyal follower of lunar astrology.

  21. Mystic gorgeous, just get well….that is all who love you care about. There is so much to enjoy on your site….that anyone would be a twerp to complain about you being off air.
You are soo dedicated & true to your passion. The rest is just what your body craves.
    Love & huggles,H :>

  22. Please rest up Mystic – physically and spiritually. Nothing more important than you getting better atm. Goddess, what would we do without you, can’t even go there. Get into bed/couch and drink heaps of fluids. xxx

  23. Looking after everyone else but yourself is no good. I burned out big-time and you don’t want that to happen. Heck, WE don’t want that to happen. Take your time to recover, your body is saying, enough is enough, I need time out. And we who love this site will survive if you go missing a few days to do a proper recuperation job. Best to do the right thing now than flake out full-time like I did. Listen to Mum Mo, Darl :D

  24. many blessings for a quick and full recovery, and may the myriad little annoyances of life fall away, leaving you at your core renewed and ready to fly higher on new phoenix wings than you ever thought possible. xoxo

  25. Take it easy Mstic. When I get knocked out with something like that i now it a sign from universe I need to slow down and tune in..
thankls for all ur awesome posts / scopes this year and website and orale revamp etc etc!

  26. sorry, but just picturing someone with vertigo tottering about in those shoes – don’t think you’d get very far………… get well soon!!!

  27. Sorry to hear you’re sick Mystic! Rest up, and sending healing vibes your way.

That upcoming full moon sounds intense! I have had some weird communiques re: long lost family members, black sheep and skeletons in the collective cupboard lately, so who KNOWS what is going to go down!!!!!

  28. So sorry to hear about your ill health Mystic; aaaah Saturn, when Saturn speaks, we listen….
Sending you pozzo vibes to aid your healing.
Please take the time and allow your body to do its job.

    Big Bright Healthful Blessings,
    UPV

  29. OMG you are not going to believe this Saturn Midheaven transit – i just found that my site Contact Forms were NOT being emailed to me – it is a gmail thing – they changed settings without telling me. So i have like 1000 emails in there, some really irate people AND i have to answer them all obviously, this is between bouts of viral vertigo, throwing up & trying not to freak out that i am now working on Xmas Am…Go Saturn! The good thing is that as i have not really eaten for three days i am losing weight rapidly. Totally Saturn.
