The Scorpio Adventuress
Hands up who loves this tattoo??!!! I do – i think ALL Scorps should have one, just to warn the rest of us. A heavy-lidded intense gaze and the ability to control Dark Matter on a Tuesday is not always sufficient warning. And the book clearly looks cool, right?
Also, i love the word “adventuress” and stories about girls who claw their way to the top from the gutter; classic example – the original bodice-ripper book Forever Amber. The heroine is actually Pisces though. Another example is the Byzantine hooker Theodora, who became an Empress of the ancient days. She’s also an asteroid – where she is in your chart is where you’re a complex Byzantine adventuress.
Anyway; The Adventuress:
No one forgets Miss Cathy Fox in a hurry. From her scorpion tattoo to her other more worldly charms she’s a woman on a mission to get what she wants.
From her humble beginnings folding knickers as a matron’s assistant at a top girls’ boarding school, Cathy embarks on a journey that will take her from a Portsmouth backstreet to the boardrooms of the global empires. With a cast of footballers, media moguls, lords and dukes, Coleridge charts the rise of a woman who will not be denied, right to the very pinnacle of society – a Royal Wedding.
Cutting a sweep from the 80s to the present day, THE ADVENTURESS charts the rise and rise of Miss Cathy Fox. Irresistibly funny and utterly addictive, this is a delicious tale of money, power, sex and having it all.
Right: What does it mean “from her scorpion tattoo to her other MORE WORLDLY CHARMS?” I mean, what is not worldly about a scorpion tatttoo?
This looks like a book to be devoured with a goopy face mask on & a jumbo sized bag of potato crisps.
Lately, been thinking about converting my scorpion necklace into a permanent skin feature. Interesting…
Love the tattoo. Not so sure I’d love the book but maybe a guilty pleasure as you say Mystic, as my adult life also ‘cuts a sweep’ (?) from the 80s to the present day.
I’ve just googled him and yes he’s capital C Coleridge, Sam was his great-x-infinity uncle.
Your query is correct – it’s ‘cut a swathe’. Really, there are no standards in publishing any more.
Of course, yes… I had visions of some poor Dickensian, soot-smeared street urchin with his head lopped off
Is this book banned in America or something? Searched Amazon US, and Abesbooks.com to no avail.
I’d try the UK link… but the last time I wanted some Daleks imported they refused.
Omg I read this as a matrons top. Where is my head at
Is that rhetorical?
FOREVER AMBER? You have my attention.
Saw that movie so many times as a child. Linda Christian to me at the time was the most beautiful woman. And Cornel Wilde. He was so hard on her
i remember. She nursed him through smallpox, no meant feat then dealing with the black death.
The FEATHERS, she wore amazing feathers, o no wonder i loved that movie.
Scorps? Bought up with one from the age of 13 years. From a life of catholic austerity with the Kataka Nanna of Scottish background ex: ‘save your pennies & the pounds will take care of themselves’ to an outrageously glamorous Mother with the wildest spending habits just because she could.
A Sagg & Scorp i mean a very Sagg and a very Scorp, one that blurts everything out and one who kept many secrets. Who drove who nuts? She would say for ex: ‘you are being conspicuous by your absence’.
Both adages took a long time to understand
Amber was a Pisces! Waaay back then i thought if i had a daughter she would be called Amber.
I once went on an adventure and ended up folding nickers under nun’s supervision, in Belgium.
And sheets and towels, it was a Big Laundry.
Ooooh, I like this post. Also very into this kind of archetype, I explore it a lot in my own writing.
My Asteroid Theodora is at 0 degrees Pisces, exactly sextile my Venus and 2 degrees away from my Mercury in Pisces. Sounds about right. ^__^ Thanks for the nugget of astrological inspiration.
Neptune is about to be directly on my Mercury following Pluto on my Venus two years ago. Lots of changes and letting go. I’ve made big progress in getting paid to write this year and in my personal projects I haven’t yet shared with the world. I’m so excited to continue to learn and not be afraid to be who I naturally am and be comfortable enough to share that with people.
Anyone been through a Mercury-Neptune transit? Was it good? Bad? Dionysian? Inspired?
The whole first sentence is lame. Like it’s so fuqing amazing that there’s a woman getting what she wants out of life. I’m sun conjunct mars in aries btw.
“…of a woman who will not be denied…”
Most important line.
lol. I find that the most tedious line. When I read that I instantly realised that this was not a protagonist with any interesting personality traits (interesting to me, at least) – just self-interest.
Maybe my 7th house cap moon could glean some social-climbing tips from the book.
I find it relevant because personally I don’t put the same association. For me it means someone who won’t put up with male bullshit, or letting it stop her from fullfilling her dreams, which could well be something totally goodie-good. Not related to the rest of the list up there, just those words. Shrug.
Isn’t it funny how different people can view the same set of words?
yeah, I am a cappie and the first sentence doesn’t bother me at all, lol:) Why is ‘get what you want’ supposed to be instantly ‘selfish’ or detrimental to others?
I do have a scorpon tattoo (stylized to form a circle) on my upper back. A warning that makes you think:D
I have Thedora (r) conjunct Saturn in Kataka in my fourth house….if it’s retrograde does that mean the opposite of Byzantine moxy?
UGH. I would never get a scorpion tattoo. Sorry. totally not into astro tattoos. I am not into literal symbolisms on my skin.
Not into tattoos myself, but can see how it would work. It’s an important ritual, or can be. In my opinion taken too lightly in the industrialized western world, considering how powerful they can be – just like with hallucinogenics.
I have a Scorp tatt on my back left hip, it’s mid-crawl in black with a blood red tail. Hence I am often asked by lovers if I am a Scorp and I say no, with no further explanation than having been stung once. I don’t expound which I think is the beauty of this icon.
It’s not so much warning for me as it is a talisman of regeneration.
