Diana “Leo” Vreeland
We already discussed the tres Leo & epic She-Editor Ms Diana Vreeland here in this post about her uber scarlet apartment but now of course we will be hearing heaps more about her, a la the new doco released soon.
There is definitely a place for Grand Leo Divas in our society. It may sound shallow but someone has to care about fabulosity and being quotable – Leos are always quotable and if not, they strive for the status. Vreeland is best known for her bon mots such as “why don’t you wash your blonde child’s hair in dead champagne, like the French do?’ and “white bread is for people who have no dreams.”
But she was an enormously creative woman with a knack for discovering and nurturing talent (a trait of Haute Leos) — she also wrote poignantly and evocatively of the epically stressful times she lived through – notably, her beloved Paris under Nazi occupation.
As the Moon whizzes into Leo today, let this be a reminder that no matter what we’re going through, there is always a place for Haute Leo artistic Awesome, being intensely opinionated about Style & Art, relishing every moment of our lives.
“You gotta have style. It helps you get down the stairs. It helps you get up in the morning. It’s a way of life. Without it, you’re nobody.”
This was a genius cover, right? Check the date.

I thought that was a modern cover made to look old! The model looks so contemporary and gorgeous!
That gorgeous model is Lauren Bacall.
Cool, I have some denim short shorts named after her. She’s beautiful.
Virgo Lauren Bacall. Her birthday is 16 September. What a beautiful woman.
I can’t even BEGIN to express how much I admire Diana Vreeland and what a major influence she has been on me!… And her infallible sense of style is minor in relation to her spirit. An amazing woman, with a wonderful sense of humor. And wise to the hilt.
Yes, I can imagine they’d be needing rather a lot of blood donated around that time…
I agree about there must be a space for benevolent fabulousness in society / the world. (note I do not mean snotty haut-er than thou attitudes from soneone who really shouldn’t be.. ick)
I really truly am feeling Leo energy more / better these days. I think it’s coming from studying art (most recently) – like, getting my head into a space where I can genuinely understand the need and soul-motivation for making / performing / etc. This, and all the things that come from two years of intense self-examination around family-of-origin stuff – what happened to self esteem, pride, maybe also realisation that it doesn’t hurt to carry myself like I am important / someone – to myself first and foremost.
Lastly my progressed ascendant is just about in Leo after 30(?) years of being in Cancer so that could be fun.
also from ongoing natal saturn in leo investigations.
look forward to seeing that film
Aahhh, this is the most comforting post for me at the moment… I’m living my dream, like a non stop honeymoon and living luxe. Though in discussions with my LL I realise we are making up for so much shite in our pasts (living in heaven in harmony and having so much fun). Love Diana Vreeland’s quotes and philosophy of life
Thanks Mystic xx
Washing hair in dead champagne? Non, non, non.
Lioness tip # 1 try a light hair wash in diluted vinegar after shampooing — gives great high gloss. Lol haute gloss??
My Lioness Leo quote: Friendship is the poetry of life.
hm yes surely the 15% alcohol would smash fine hair
Well, having been in front of the camera countless times this gets fast results for glossy hair under the flash. Light wash means run 2 soup spoons of white vinegar diluted in a bowl of water evenly over wet hair after shampooing.
That’s a photo of the young Lauren Bacall at 18 years old.Magnifique and still beautiful.
Style helps one get down the stairs?! Fuq me.
LOL. Yes. I prefer caffeine. Absense of nakedness is probably a good start for leaving the house. Style is optional (but v pleasant) extra !
My college buddy went to the movies with DV. He said she talked the entire time and was shusshed by the peeps nearby. One of the things she told him was “never say rhinestones, always say diamonte!”
Helping others to be creative is one of this Leo’s deep desires in life.
