The Balanced Path

Dear Mystic,

The Joyful Demon is my interpretation of The Fool in the major arcana.

The Balanced Path has to do with The Two of Swords.

Hope you enjoy,

Kathleen

O.m.g i had some some awful begrudging, Qi-Vampire emails today AND a complaint from a Love Zombie (Venus went Direct and her boss did not leave his wife but he did make the Love Zomibe redundant) AND actual Vampire Eye. Then in the midst of all that comes this email from the genius Kathleen Lolley. Instant happy.

If you subscribe or have been following this blog for a while, you will get how much i ADORE the work of Kathleen Lolley.  She is the most amazing surrealist artist and you can buy her work as awesomely affordable prints from here. I think she’s the genuine magic deal and i WISH she would do a WHOLE tarot pack.

Dwell upon these images for some fabulous Zap Zone insights…Thoughts?

The Joyful Demon

  1. The Joyful Demon. When my Pluto Mars Uranus thing gets too transhitty from passing Pluto Uranus Mars and i can’t achieve grace, i think this could be the perfect meditation/action/standing moving about mantra.

  2. Oh wowowow. The bottom one is my daughter. Fuck wow. Oh wow. WOW. oh boy. I am going to have to look further into her work. Wow, the child who carries death and life and wow. She is not a demon though. Just a kid. A happy kid who has dealt with demons most adults can’t or wont. Wow. Be like the happy demon child in life! WOW!

Well after copping a beating on ye olde blog (yet again) I realise there is nothing you can do to please or appease some people! And that there is just no tolerance for intolerance in this day and age.I find that hard to come to terms with sometimes. I have to ‘let it go’ whatever that means. I hate having to be all effing pc about everything. I refuse. Harden up peeps, there is an aries in the house!

    Werd.

  3. God, these days I feel like I am my own Qi-vampire. Could pluto squaring my Saturn in the 12th be responsible? Art could just be the antidote. Kathleen’s exploding brains made me laugh. Honestly, I think this could be a good time for being in a mountain retreat.

    • Looks like all you’ll need is a knapsack full of birds suspended from your journey stick. And a big grin.

      • I reckon! Big grin. Some fluffy friends. A purposeful stride into the (cough) sunshine. Man I wish it would stop raining in Melbs. Glad there are no earthquakes tho.

          • Admittedly, she does need something to soften her features. But it’s all too frou-frou for my scorp moon in the 7th. Actually, it’s too frou-frou for my entire chart. And Lady Janes with socks? They look like a blockage to deep insight to me.

            • I have a weird conflict in my nature (astro wise I have no idea how it is represented as I am a total spazz with that stuff) but i find on one hand I want to live in a Jane Austen novel, with embroidery and frilly curtains and flowers drying in the kitchen and then on the other hand I am a total punk with black and red and giant safety pins and tattoos. BFD. Bipolar Fashion Disorder. It’s very frustrating. Of course it leads to my house being very tidy one day and a total mess the next. I read craft magazines while listening to thrash. HELP! But as a result, this picture is perfect to mine eyes!… Time for a drink.

                • Mercury in Pisces in the 1st house???? Oh yeah, thats my crazy creative hoochie juice stuff I think. Hehehe. (thank the aliens that be for astro.com).

                  • UM. Square Neptune, Square Saturn, Trine Midheaven, Sextile Moon. No wonder I AM ART (beyond the simpler I AM of the Ram). I like lots of stuff.

              • I can relate, AAC… except my bi- (tri? quad?) polarity involves a desire to go deep into global eco-femo-power-mongering, be an elusive but wildly popular songwriting rockstar freak travelling the world and playing to packed audiences baying for more, live barefoot in a wood cabin on 20 hectares by the sea / in the mountains with a giant studio populated by a grand piano and other things, where I live in blissful isolation save for my handful of most loyal and divine friends… les dreams. where do I start…!
and i listen to Machine Head while I make tapestries, if that’s any moral support for your condition ;) xxx

              • Doesn’t Betsey Johnson and Vivienne Westwood design frilly lace yet punk dresses with combat boots? You could rock that look. Very cool.

  4. Those of us in NZ were just hit by an earthquake off the west coast of the lower north island. No reports of damage and shiz yet but I’m finding this immensely interesting as a very similar quake occured on the Cap new moon on Dec 23rd last year..

    The Earth is moving indeed..

  5. WOW indeed!
    L O V E
Special significance for me as I have been labelled a ‘Demon Soldier’ by the Brothers Grimm.
    Wicked.
Not only will I wear it, I’m gonna work it!!
    ;-)

      • Hahaha – not sure we’re talking about the same ‘boys’, but that’s way too funny AAC.
I was referring to Bad Guru, not the fully beast funk-mysters!
        xo

        • Hey I just googled Bad Guru and all i got was a post from Mystic Medusa! What is this Bad Guru of which you speak? Now I am super curious. (It is still a Rad name).

          • Not at liberty to speak of ‘those who shall not be named’ at the mo – law suit pending.
Lets just say I have WAAAY TMI, and some peeps are going to extraordinary lengths to silence me….

  6. Just have to say that Kathleen is one of my most favouritist artists that you turned me onto Mystic so thank you for that. Oh and Remedios Varos. :D

  7. Wut? The 2 of Swords is balance? In the RWS deck, she holds the swords up high, above her center of balance. It is not balanced in the least bit, it is counterbalanced. She is like the balance in a spinning top, which naturally will topple over, but stays balanced only when spinning, which is a continuous application of force. Remove the force, the top spins down and it topples over.

The 2S is about someone blinded to the implications of their actions, which are fueled by their subconscious. She presents a placid exterior, concealing her extreme efforts to hold herself together, to prevent herself from toppling over, to having the swords cut one way and not the other. 2S is about the torque required to hold an unbalanced position. It would be much easier to resolve it and hold the swords balanced vertically, requiring no continuous application of torque to keep them in position. So the 2S is about an exterior appearance of peacefulness, covering up a conflicted state, she conceals her extreme efforts to maintain a peaceful appearance to others. It must be exhausting. She will eventually have to drop the swords.

      • Sorry, my teachers made me swear to never show anyone my hand painted cards.

Anyway, I misread that. Apparently the title of her painting is “The Balanced Path.” While she is making an obvious association, she wasn’t saying that the 2 of Swords IS the balanced path. I had it backwards.

        • So you painted your own deck of cards AND they’re secret. Thought you said you had trouble doing Neptune? :D

    • Ha! Aw shoot. Well, here in the mid Atlantic it’s still July 3rd and early afternoon. Enjoy, Jules. It will be interesting, scapegoat, and wily-never-give up moon-child of the universe.

  8. Synchronistic to see this blindfolded creature. Just after last night’s Full Moon I did a sketch featuring 3 Norns. All wearing blindfolds , but the Norn that represents the ‘Now’ is the only one to see.
