The Astrological Eighties

Filed in Astro-Passages

Cindy Crawford – Irving Penn – 1986

What were the Eighties, exactly….?

Pluto in Scorp & Neptune in Capricorn.

So now we have Pluto in Capricorn (nothing bursts a bubble of delusion quite like our Pluto, right) and Saturn into Scorpio.

So you might as well just say that the economy-banking-global finance is having a Pluto AND a Saturn transit.

Never easy, always productive in the end.

Think about your own big Pluto or Saturn transits; you may wince when you see them coming up or your Cosmic Consult starts off with something about “growth passage,” “transition” or “forced growth” but you KNOW they’re good when they’re done, right?

And you know also that EVERY single Pluto transit du jour is boofed up by Uranus squaring.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Zap Zone.  Retaliate first.  Or rather, make the change first. You know it.

  1. I hated the eighties. Hated everything they stood for: puffed shoulders, puffed hair, puffed spending. Good-bye and good riddance.

  2. Haha Pluto conjunct Saturn natally with Saturn currently conjunct both AND squaring my Moon. Should be completely exhausted & falling into bed but I’m going to finish off a training manual for work. Ha.

That second picture is yucky. Just like my day today.

  3. You can’t forget with Neptune in Capricorn THE APPEARANCE of productivity was actually the key.

I lived the best and worst times of my life in the 80′s but utterly utterly hated the 70′s.. with that said, I think there was much more to the 80′s than bad trendy dance music and big shoulder pads, there was a punk revision of late 70s, which was all the candy, whipped cream icing cherry on the top a girl could ever want.

Also in spite of how crap we all thought normal things were.. there was a hope to take that rubbish and turn it into something new.. which could have happened if we didn’t run into that wall that we were just deluding ourselves..to appear “Productive”… such as taking those normal jobs that took us nowhere & never attempted to allow the creative wave to take us forward. Had we only trusted our impulse things would or could have been much better than today, but we didn’t & things took a great turn..

Next time the ball is in our “court” we are dominating this game.. if we get a second chance, that is, if we don’t we may have to take it anyway.

  4. Neptune in Cappy dreams – sleek, stylish, leather satchels and tortoise shell rimmed specs, classic camel coats – mmm! How gorgeous is this styling Cindy version of Murphy Brown?!

Pluto in Scorp screams cocaine and hell realms of greed. When the movie ‘wall street’ actually inspired a generation of white collar criminals! Eek!

But perhaps it was Pluto in Scorp – perhaps that bug there, the sinister in the milk, that made everyone face themselves and start searching for something more amidst the oysters, pills & rolled up bills?

Neptune in Pisces is looking really Saggi fashion wise to me so far.
Pluto in Cap – well Greece is showing us how hanging on to outdated $ ideas can be ludicrous and painful to the extreme.
Saturn in Scorpio? Holy fuq. Streamline that flight towards the Sun. Icarus iwill have nothing on us by year’s end.

  5. As a teenager in the 80′s hated it, didn’t get it, didn’t fit in etc. I guess this wouldn’t have been helped by Pluto transiting my ascendent & first house planets ( Neptune & Venus) – ouch.

    Loving having found you Mystic……………

  6. After a 3 months-long hiatus and re-evaluation as to wtf I’m supposed to do with my life, I’ve started re-writing my screenplay. The one I’ve been working on for years that I dumped as soon as I got a producer interested due to life falling apart for me. Yeah. Anyway…

I’ve been going through a ‘growth passage’ and am not sure if I’m just friggin’ delusional about being a writer-slash-whatever… But this week, I’ve started totally changing my script, reinvigorating it with fresh ideas and humour that makes me laugh out loud and I’m determined to just finish this fucker and get it made. There. Said it. And I could even sense a buzz coming back.

Oh, did I mention Pluto is STILL smack bang on my Sun at 8 deg Cap – AND square my natal Pluto? Saturn is hovering in my 1st house square my natal moon in my 10th.

Is it too soon to revisit something and make a commitment like this (to finish said script)? Is Pluto still yet to screw with me more so I shouldn’t be going BACK to writing yet – or ever – until I transform according to Pluto’s plan? Am I in some way staying stuck and will be fuqed or is this the new world order and writing is here to stay?

    Confusion abounds…

    • Re your last comment EG – I think you ARE transforming and using the Pluto energy well…Pluto is all about transformation, rebirth etc and you are transforming your script and your life goals so go! Nothing is ever wasted

  7. ” So you might as well just say that the economy-banking-global finance is having a Pluto AND a Saturn transit ” and not a minute too soon.

  8. 8RamAsc, 4CapMidheaven – Uranus approaching my Asc (actually looking forward to that this summer) and Pluto just passed over my MC last year.

So right now, I’m going through a simultaneous PlutoSqAsc and UraSqMC. It’s like the wreckage after a hurricane – that transition phase to a stronger, brighter place. So much resentment to work through before I can feel like I belong in my chosen field again..

Just feels like moving through molasses, though. Everything feels murky. So I’ve been wearing this snake ring, and lots of black, trying to feel empowered!

  9. there are so many epic transits and happenings sky wise its hard to keep up!
my pluto conjunctions were the 80s. I grew up on pluto transits. Now saturn is coming and I am really going to grow up.
Such a weird blend of feelings now. There is no dark moon sour in my tone, I feel entirely sober but strangely anarchic, like an arsonist eyeing off my own home just to see what it would be like to watch it burn at my own hand.

  10. I did not like the eighties either and I have a Cap sun. While having some appreciation for classic wear I think I dress more my pisces rising. I should probably iron more.

  11. Am I the only one who loved the 80′s? I was very young though and loved the music especially underground art rock but, mainstream radio ie. New Wave was pretty fun too.
In Feb 1980 I was having a Pluto transit through my 12th House/Libra.
Saturn transit through my 11th House/Virgo.
I was a strange kid 10 years old already involved in the music, performing arts and advanced book clubs and science fairs. I had a strong group of friends. Being 10 wasn’t that bad. Know I wanna listen to Blondie and some good early 80′s songs.

  12. Flash forward to 1984. Pluto, Saturn both transiting my 1st House/Scorpio. Neptune in Capricorn in my 2nd House.
I always had enough money to thrift shop for punk clothes, and buy records. D.I.Y. punk rock scene was my scene, still love it!
Is Punk rock governed by Mars in Virgo people?
My Pluto/Saturn transit was hard but, I also had a lot of fun playing with my image and personas via experimental hair (mohawks, wigs) and makeup. was involved in theatre and art rock music.
It was a pioneering fun time for me.

    • Pluto was transiting my 5th house during most of the 80′s. I really did enjoy discovering things at the time although I had a really difficult time but I enjoyed the mixed bag of experience life had given me at the time.. in 1980 I was 12, discovering the first wave of music I could really enjoy. I dreamt of being in a band, and finally made my dream come true, if only for a little while, it was a real learning experience too :)

Wish I really pushed a little harder due to the fact those who I worked with were reluctant where as others had gotten contracts.. these offers were probably not the best for them as people who should be alive today are not with us… for all the wrong reasons.

As I said, the best and worst of times, and still news always keeps popping up from people I knew in those crazy times. :)

    • I did like a lot of the 80s (not the shoulder pads, obviously) but loved the New Romantics, Blondie, Pretenders, the Cure, even went to Adam Ant and Duran Duran concerts back in the day. Kind of loved the whole pirate punk Vivienne Westwood fashion thing (early 80s). I feel a bit cheated I never had a high powered well paid job though so I couldn’t indulge in the decadent expensive lifestyle thing!

      • Oh and the 80s retro revival thing now really shits me. Especially 20-something too cool for school DJs who play ONLY the crap 80s… Flock of Seagulls, Kajagoogoo etc. There was a lot of good stuff, why pick the crap stuff? and also… you weren’t there, you don’t know what the 80s was like!

        • Too true. the clothes look almost right but, not quite…it’s missing something the right attitude!
The 80′s nights I hit recently focused on the mainstream crap. :(

    • We sound like twins separated at birth! I was also into punk & new wave music quite young and by age 15 I had morphed into full on punk rock chick. I have very fond memories of the 80′s for the punk scene, and I’m still a punk at heart! Good times!

  13. Best decade for me. The Neptune in Cap in my 10th house led to best job in NYC publishing house; second and best husband who was a Cap. The Saturn in Scorp led to the love of my life, for eternity ( he has died years ago). Also all my kids were little and adorable…..then.

    • I got married twice in the 80′s became an alcoholic, got sober till today, had my son in 83, divorced in 88, married in 88, had a downs syndrome abortion in 89. It was good and bad. As far as styles, they were ok to me. I also got a masters degree in 82. I was so young, just in my 30′s and had so much to learn. Cannot believe it is 30 years ago! No idea what the moon lingo is about as all I know is I am a true Leo in nature and in birthsign.

  14. I am a personal planets multiple conjunct scorpio (but sun in Sagg) so I guess I have had a pluto transit since the 80s – I have had a really bad time in the fact that never had any confidence (maybe a reason for this) and just really really mega late developer (am 39 and still have not had a long term relationship longer than 2 years) . …. things slowly getting better, but I guess I am just not as great as I always thought I was…I dunno, sorry guys feeling a bit unusually depressed today

  15. Got ‘stuck’ in front of the box watching Rage video clips from the eighties the other night.

Laurie Anderson’s “Oh Superman, . . . Mom and Dad . . . . ” reminded me of an essay we read in art school, “Why Performance Art is so Boring”. Found myself feeling exceptionally intolerant of the naive air-headedness of the time especially in music videos. Not that I’d call Laurie Anderson an air head. But wtf?? A very strange time both weird for the sake of it and somehow naive. Superficial nonsense masquerading as something D&M.

    • Yes! Oh superman must be one of the most boring and annoying songs of that decade… loved Ashes to Ashes though, which also epitomises the 80s music video/weirdness thing. LOL about boring performance art. I would also add video art!

  16. But, the people who grew up in teh 80s, have turned out to be all amazing parents – inclusive of all children, rather than the former generation who were a bit children should be seen and not heard by the dads generation of parents. something could be in that…

  17. Oh man! That’s why the 80′s fashion is back and why Hollywood is so hyped up on re-makes of 80′s movies and TV shows (they remade “Dallas” and “Footloose”). I don’t like the color palettes and the style of the 80′s, it hurts my EYES! lol

But they had some good movies (John Hughes!), a few decent bands, and MTV was born then. I would rather have the cosmic line-up of a Pluto/Neptune or Pluto/Saturn style of the 70′s. At least maybe if that happened the music of this generation might actually turn out better haha, just saying.

  18. I don’t care what you girls think, my Leo ascendant declares the 1980s Big Hair was awesome. Sorry it is so much trouble with the perms and the teasing and the hairspray. But I expect you to go to some effort to look good and put on a proper display for me. I mean seriously now, do you want to look like you just woke up and fell out of bed?

    [puts on asbestos overcoat]

    • Sometimes yes. Nothing wrong with bedhead/JBF look. :) There are so many better fashion eras than the 80s. I lived through it in my teens and don’t want to again. The 80s revival has been going on for sooooooo long now.

  19. 84 was my last year of school and there was some great (formative for me) music around then. postpunk edgey fun. tres uranus in aries. An indy radio station did a year countdown thing awhile back and I got all teary. I love a bit of dynamic.

  20. Oh yeah 1989! I was totally there…in my mom’s tummy! yeah-yuh! hahaha!

Lots of good music in the 80′s (70′s too)
I like a lot of that pop music they had going on, the classic rock too. I love the band Wall of Voodoo, there other songs not just their one hit wonder song “Mexican Radio.”
    Great movies too back then.

but yeah I have Neptune Cap and Pluto Scorp natal.

  21. Look, the 80s always bring back such bittersweet memories for me – but of course the Pluto transit of Sagg started in the 1990s, so I can’t blame most of my awful moments on Pluto in Cap. For me, the quintessence of the 80s is the film Working Girl. As someone has already said here, the 80s were about ‘looking like you were working/successful’ (shoulder pads; lurid displays of wealth; the corner office etc etc). Music was the same – looks good (LOL – all the puffy shirts and men in badly applied makeup!) but just pumped out of a synthesiser. No, for me the 90s-00s were far more of a ‘growth’ phase, as in there’s nothing left of me now to what was there at the start of the Pluto transit of Sagg in 1994/5.

  22. the 80s? TACKTACKTACK. my pisces Mercury quintile and Sag-e Ascendent wants to know when tic-tac-toe was invented.

Nonetheless, digg the bedhead. oh wait, that was the 60s wasn’t it? Loved bardot’s swag.

my Neptune in Cappy questions too easily—even Astrology (blasphemy!)—and my Pluto in Sgt. Scorp just gets a kick out of it. Out of everything in fact.

Oh yeah, there’s the Sun in Pisces and loony Cancery Moon tumo[u]r…

much love to medusa (although i wish your oracle would speak to me in the eye)
