Crabby Couture

Dress-Up Stephanie Downey

“I think most of my favourite spaces are those that are heightened by nostaliga, by the people inside them and the memories they recall…also I’m a Cancerian, and the homely trait hit hard with me. I wanted to make clothing reminiscent of a domestic, indoor environment and the colours and textures nostalgic to me; the comfort of a habitual room, a familiar voice, the idea of home sweet home.”

This pic does look Kataka-ish & I love how they can’t help but all sound like Proust.

so the catalogue’s full of clothes to step out vs stay in AND entirely shot outdoors ……

I loke the shoot, but she can keep the clothes!

  2. It is very cancerian, rusty old gate, boring but probably right-on native flowers -dreary mauve, sulky chick…my version of clothes for indoor are like my juicy trackies with billabong boots or uggs, some crap on the plasma and body butter.

  3. Surely the neckline is to high for a crabby??

Ive had to give up the bikini as casual lounge wear, way to cold atm so its dressing gown season.

” I wanted to make clothing reminiscent of a domestic, indoor environment and the colours and textures nostalgic to me” is she talking about a Snuggy??

  4. I think I could do better with a few bin bags and safety pins – not very flattering are they? They dont look snuggli indoor to me.

Still I find it FASCINATING how there are so many interpretations of the same thing (or marketing spin says the marketer in me!)

Anyway the MOST Cancerian homey fashion idea I saw somewhere was making cushions out of your old clothes! You know those lovely things that don’t fit (either size wise or style wise) but you can’t bear to throw away and they are taking up space and energy…..so you can have them on your boudoir lounger as lovely cushion memories……SIGH. Problem is some of mine are PVC, latex and leather and may be hard to cut and stitch!!!! I’ve had two done already by a seamstress and they look gorgeous…one from an old vintage silvery grey velvet dress that was a shame to cut up (shellfish I guess but hey) and another from a pair of denim shorts I wore to death when I was in my 20s..weirdly they look great together…

  5. SORRY has to go back and look just in case I was unduly criticising but LOOK at collection 09/10 picture 15, Blazer…..WHAT IS GOING ON!!! Is this a new look pantyhose to under your boobs thingy?

My wardrobe is actually divided into clothing for the outer world and for home. I love a flowy embroidered kurta or Victorian nightgown for days of high quality relaxation and I always seem to choose white. Most days, though, I choose from my coordinated (based on black) cotton and modal knit tops and bottoms. I add snuggly socks and cardigans in the winter. I throw a full apron over it and I am ready to cook. I keep the old ones to wear while cleaning or doing some serious kitchen witchery.
