Snakie Dionysus Day

Piscean Rachel Weisz being Snakie

So screw St Patrick and his stupid anti-Snake/anti-Pagan etc stance.  As far as I’m concerned, it’s Snake day & you don’t have to pretend to admire Saint Patrick just to indulge dipsomania.  March 17 to 20 are not only the very end of the Zodiac (final degrees of Pisces) – they are ancient feast days of Dionysus.  That’s right – the God of Wine himself. Why bother with the latter-day-foisted-upon-us-watered-down version when you can go straight to the source?

Ancient Snakie Talisman, symbol of continual transformation, wisdom and beauty…

fair cop… associating this post with eve? The central story that has allowed and encouraged rampant sexism and abuse of women for a thousand years and surely was used as part of the argument for ridding Ireland of the pagans in the first place…When are we going to break away from such shite. I love this photo, it is beautiful and powerful and fresh and vibrant and free. I am so grateful that I was not brought up with a patriarchal religion to mar my mind when I see such images.

Do you think AAC that Eve as the embodiment of knowledge, strength and beauty should not be associated with this photo of Rachel Weisz being the embodiment of knowledge, strength and beauty?

In associating this pic with Eve I am acknowledging the history of partiarchal fear and the exclusion of women’s knowledge, strength and beauty.

Christianity was, IS a partriarchal religion that has consistently repressed the power of women. By me saying,’hey, this photo reminds me of Eve and the snake embodying Knowledge – (because there are those who say that when the Christians drove out the snakes from Ireland they also drove out the knowledge of the land, fertility, and the acknowledgment of wise, strong, beautiful women)- in all her glory,’ I’m reclaiming our strength and history(s).

good oh! so we completely agree then! i have had a rough trot with patriarchal bulldust and sexism these last few weeks and months and I am oh so over it! So my anger rests wholly with the patriarchal system set in place over such a long time, and how much I wish that in this era things would change, but I am yet to see any real evidence, beyond having the right to vote and have a job. very very jaded.

Even so, I still don’t hold stock with the bible at all at the moment. I didn’t suggest you keep your mouth shut, I am just dismayed that the very first post referenced a bible story used to teach children and men and women that all women are evil and that our vagina’s – the true centre for the creation of life – are the perpetual creators of sin!

so apologies blue libra, i am equally insensitive with my libran flatmate at times, i wasn’t meaning to attack you personally, just the concepts out there that drive me to distraction. xo

I had a dream this morning about sitting down to eat with someone and as I looked down at my plate, I saw heaps of little snakes in my food, like anchovies.

The person I was sitting with kept commenting, “isn’t this great, isnt it great”.

I was a little perturbed at the idea of eating the tiny snakes.
They were small and rubbery, like bad calamari.

I had an argument with a Christian yesterday about Astrology( I’m rarely out there about my interest in Astrology, but felt we had a good enough repore to discuss our beliefs. And no, I’m not anti-Christian, but he was so rude, calling Astrology demonic, false idols, blah, blah, blah. Basicly infering
I was a bad person, steeped in sin. What a load of bull. He really reved me up. The strange thing was, I felt persecuted, almost flowing into a past life thing where I was condemed to death for my beliefs. Like the pagans of St Patricks time.

I can’t work out if eating snakes is good or bad. Nourishing myself with knowledge? That’s what I do everyday here on this site. It can’t be a bad thing surely?

O amongst ALL the mad dreams of late – foetus’, my mother threatening me, the Australian Cricket team (for christ’s sake!) and broken ladders – I had this perturbing dream of fragility: incy wincy, ie caterpillar sized, kittens . . . that I was at a loss as to how to move out of harms way, and in the process I Inhaled one, and had to cough it out, knowing that was the end of that!

A Scottish guy I know who an Alcoholics Anonymous member always calls St. Patty’s Day “Amateur Hour.” I never could quite tell if he was sneering at the infrequent drinkers who couldn’t hold their liquor like the alkies could, or the Irish.

i don’t think its quite yet, peeps, maybe nearer the cusp!

    but could be wrong!

my daughter’s 18th on the 19th. she’s just informed me that she intends to drink a lot of bourbon (yuk!) legally for the first time:

lyrics of this Augie March song seem appropriate! see verse two

    Sunstroke House
O fraudulent mirror, O rank rainbow toad,
I’d break apart too, if I knowed what you knowed,
I’d fall from the wall, I’d leap from the road,
You take cover in the clover, you don’t shoulder the load.

Wagner and wife, drama and strife,
Their syphilitic friend Dionysus is wise not to ask “Where’s Sunstroke House?”
Where’s a crow on the far fence?
Where’s a mill by the pond?

Pale with horror I saw you when your bird flew,
Now who in the whole low world has been kind to you,
Save for a kindly, ugly few?
Don’t read it, don’t watch it, don’t do what they do.

From the wind in the Winter, no mercy, no quarter,
From the Summer no mercy, and little goes well,
    That’s where you’ll live, that’s where you’ll live,
Till a gale rips ya sail, till a will kills ya mill…

Where have you been, my heat, my shadow?
How well did you like the song?
I filled it so full of nonsense and unrule
you feel like there’s something forgotten or fell.

Pale with horror I saw you when your bird flew,
Now who in the whole low world has been kind to you,
Save for a kindly, ugly few?
Don’t read it, don’t watch it, don’t do what they do.

Pink lipped bub, golden haired sitting,
    Portraits of withering roots –
Pretty diversions, pointless excursions, pleasant distractions,
    Underground mutes.

geez Paddy’s day already!! seems just a moment ago I retold the Leprechaun story & our Ma kissing the Blarney – which apparently spawns excessive chatter – a trait common in our female lineage!!

irrespective of it’s origins March 17 is special to me.
to honour my roots. a nod to our poor southern origins.
am named after great granny Anne Donavan. compulsively re art directing the house / whilst writing a symphone / cooking up a storm & keeping her wild man in check. well so the story goes…

cheers to those whom relate to the motherland!!

PS Mystic am blessed if this truely be YOUR bday – the day holds honour and exaltation supreme. may all your dreams come true!!
