Night-Flowering Tuberose (Starflower) Under A Full Moon in Anya’s Garden

So I got sent these gorgeous scent samples from Anya of Anya’s Garden Perfumes.  She makes them all from her garden in Miami, Florida & they’re divine. She has the most brilliant astro-signature for a perfumier:  Sun, Venus and Neptune in Libra, all Rising.

“…One reasoning behind the concepts of StarFlower and MoonDance, and it’s a big reasoning, is that white flowers, typically those that look like stars, always bloom on the Full Moon. The gravitational and tidal pulls are the stimulus, I suppose. If you’re in a garden at night, the magic of the scent draws you in, and even if you squint your eyes, you can still see the white flowers, since they’re the only color flowers that are visible at night. under a bower of jasmine, next to the tuberose bed, it’s as if the stars fell out of the sky – and brought their fragrance to earth.

Also, tuberose’s scent is minimal during the day, becoming more intense at night, overwhelming, in fact.

Cool, yin-type scents are associated with the moon, and the mint opening note of MoonDance leads you down a cool, inward-looking path, with tender rose and chamomile. StarFlower is more fiery, and meant for nighttime wear in the winter, quite yang and sultry and carnal in the drydown. The flower that most looks like a star is the single flowered Tuberose, so that was the muse for both perfumes….”

The Aztecs called it Bone Flower and she was sacred to their Venus. Ancient Hindu peeps knew it as Night Mistress and in many cultures it is considered a powerful aphrodisiac. Tuberose keeps producing scent, even after it is picked, making it the main component of Hawaiian leis. Some say that inhaling the oil of Tuberose improves one’s capacity for emotional depth & the most common symbolism of it is “dangerous pleasures.”

Reminds me of Stephanotis, which has a nice jasmine scent. But the Tuberrose is much larger.

Tuberose and stephanotis have over the years been pretty popular inclusions in wedding bouquets.

Speaking of white flowers , isn`t the White Lotus the symbol of the Sahasrara, the Crown Chakra ?….don`t recall if it has a scent, tho.

Spirit, the lotus has a subtle but beautiful aroma. You have to get close to smell it & that’s not easy in a pond.
Blue lotus has lovely aroma also & very rare.
The crown chakra is referred to as a thousand petals opening.

I like how people that wash adequately smell…there is a whole other sweaty mass of people in sticky QLD that I would gladly do without..

It’s not like I want ninja DJ perfume ladies to remedy the reek, but a bit of pure soap and water would be appreciated.

As a veteran of Atlanta summer bus travel, I have to agree with Leonine. The sweet smell of soap is a relief in the heat & too few people seem to appreciate that. For that matter, a few essential oils & flower waters, thoughtfully applied, can be a gift to all within smelling distance.

And while I’m making (or belaboring) this point, I’d just like to say that it would be a much pleasanter world if people would give more attention to their foot hygiene. Those sneakers you’ve been wearing w/o odor-eaters for the last two years? They’re making more of a dent on your social life than you know.

I wish there was an australian supplier – extremely tempted by purchasing some samples. As I love Jean Patou ‘Joy’ and I think this would be along similar lines but maybe more contemporary.
    BUT

2 weeks ago I had $1164 stolen from my bank account by internet fraudsters. merc retro anyone?

so I am loath to fill in those little numbers online any more …

Mentioning washing, just found 2 bottles of Dr. Bronner’s castille liquid soap…blissed, as have not
seen or used it since o/s. The shop only had 2 in a dusty corner luckily for my purse!
Pure as anything ever used plus has mileage.

Adore JP’s ‘JOY’ as it was my mother’s signature, hence won’t impinge on her special smell,
but when in DJ’s ( only twice a year nowadays) always obtain a spray on card to use as bookmark.
Those sample cards make great aromatic bookmarks or i put one in a pocket of hanging garment
      til it evaporates…free too :-)

A mate of mine sent (scent?) me this yesterday. I keep on fiddling around with it.
The only thing is… you can’t _smell_ them

My perfumed crab bestie thinks that perfume should never be bought over the internet…

what a fab idea peg. The tuberose reminds me of a fungi that that glows in the dark and grows here in the Qld rainforest it looks like snowdrops on the side of a tree.

I planted a stephanotis yesterday. I also have 2 moonflowers. They only open as the sun sets and then drop off the vine in the morning. Next evening the same all over again. Smell divine.
