Krampus-Christmas-Saturn-Satan?

krampussantapg9Yikes!

I knew all about Saturnalia (what Christmas was pre-Christ). It was essentially a harvest festival. In the Northern Hemisphere, Xmas is Mid-Winter & peeps used to be so relieved they had survived thus far (food stores lasting etc) that they’d hook into the mead & some other spesh supplies, gazing at their evergreen tree to remind them that soon, the nights shorten, days lengthen and it would be SPRING.

But this article from Cabinet Of Curiosities is a bit more freaky & gruesome. Fascinating though…

Love your work Mystic. An interesting escapade from the banal commercial superficial Christmas shite. I love December but it has nothing to do with Xmas. I think it’s the Sun over my Midheaven and the thru the 10th house.

That pic reminds me of that over promoed movie “Where the Wild Things Are”. Has to be the most boring movie EVER zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. What a complete waste of 90 bucks (me and 4 kids).

Lesly, look at your new avatar! It is divine!!! Please tell me is it a real baby bird? And if so, do you know which one?

Heaps of baby birds here at the moment. In one area near the house there are 4 diff types of birds nesting right beside each other. Gorgeous. For the bird lovers they are: Black-faced Cuckoo shrike, Rufous Whistler, Willy Wagtails (2nd nest for the season) and Olive-backed Oriole (3 babies, 2 of which I put back in the nest after a storm – what hilarious looking little things they are!). Wish I had a website to show you the photos.

nat my Aries mum has me watching the antics of willy wagtails at her place near the lake…they have been dive bombing a crow. They take these rapid fire turns at swooping down to where his tail meets his body. It’s at a point where his beak can’t reach them and it must be the most bloody annoying thing. Mum thought they were doing it just because they didn’t like the crow.lol. I think it’s more likely they are nesting nearby and trying to chase off the potential eater of their babies.

Thank you, dahling! It’s a baby owl! They are way too cute.
Are they? That sounds so beautiful. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of those birds before! I’ll have to google image. I have some cardinals that live in my dad’s tree during the summer/spring, and I usually see many bluejays and finches and the like. When I visited my grandpa up in New Hampshire (four states away in the North East US) I used to see hummingbirds EVERYWHERE! The area I’m in is more urban, so I don’t see them as much anymore. Birds are gorgeous gorgeous creatures, no?

That is exactly what they are doing LL. Willy Wagtails are ardent protectors of their nest, babies & territory. They will take on anything – even a Kookaburra – and they will make physical contact! I recall someone saying that given the Willy Wagtail’s feisty attitude they are pleased are not a bigger sized bird! If you watch them for a while it should be easy to work out where the nest is – a lovely little cup shape held together with spider web.

This is the BEST thing I ever read about re Saturnalia and Christmas – totally fascinated by the representations of Krampus, the Horned God and Capricorn and how they have evolved and devolved. Lucky Cappy’s bagging all that mad loaded symbolism, what a Jungian drama fest, I love it.

Actually bought my nieces and nephews a copy of Struwwelpeter for Christmas – it’s a Chrissy book for kids published in 1845. It’s chock full of Teutonic cruelty to kiddies – little Suck-a-thumb who gets his thumb snipped off, rabbits shooting hunters and titles like ‘The Dreadful Story of Harriet and the Matches’ about little girl who sets herself on fire!

I can see how Krampus came from a culture that entertained kids with such stories! Obviously Uber Virgo is much entertained also!! Ah, something for everyone…
